I am pulling for Brandon McCoy. I am glad that he is with the Mean Green and I wish him all the best, and a successful career with the Mean Green. Looks like UNT has found a leader for some of its younger guys (perhaps both on and off the field). We all need to hope and pray that Brandon's injuries do not keep him off the team. UNT needs guys like this who know what it means when they "take the wrong road" and then find their way. Thanks, Brandon, for your service to our nation and for becoming the man that you are today. Good luck and God speed with you UNT football career and academics. I am betting that you are a success. GO MEAN GREEN!

Greatness...excellent. Thanks to the Athletic Dept. for doing this!!!! GO MEAN GREEN!

OK, so who will be attending this season's Kick-Off Cookout and 5K event? It is shaping up to be a great way to "kick-off" the new season and the last at Fouts. The 5K will have a new course due to the new stadium construction and the event will be in the "shade" of the concourse at Fouts. Well, other than the run itself and the scrimmage that is... scrimmage is a great addition to the event this year. Also, you can pick up your season tickets and parking passes at the Athletic Center that day up until noon as well. Come out and have a "look-see" at the team, talk to the coaches and players and share in some fun with the Mean Green Nation. In addition, the Denton Chapter of the UNT Alumni Assoc. will unveil their "Fouts Field Farewell Tour" ceramic mugs, stadium poster and t-shirts far sale for this season's scholarship fundraising activity. Come by and take a look. Will you be attending? GO MEAN GREEN!!!!!!

Good for TCU...they have needed to improve their stadium for about as long as UNT has needed to demolish Fouts. Well, not really that long, but still. Congrats to TCU. Now schedule UNT for the home opener of your new stadium! GO MEAN GREEN!

The Alumni "Fouts Field Farewell Tour" items will be for sale at this weekend's KICK-OFF COOKOUT and 5K. Come by the Alumni table for a "look-see" and to purchase some or all of the items. Remember that 100% of proceeds over the exact cost of the items goes to help fund scholarships for UNT students. If you are looking for a way to help, this is a good and worthwhile project. My bride and I will be helping to sell after we complete the 5K, so come by and say "hi" and maybe even purchase an item or two or three....PLEASE and THANK YOU! remember, even if you can't get by Saturday, items will be for sale before every home game this season and through E-Bay for you "out of towners". Also, if you are concerned about t-shirt sizes...give me a PM here at GMG.com and I'll put the number and sizes of t-shirts you want up for you for delivery. Go Mean Green!

Looks to me like a surprise or two with special teams and a new attitude on defense that UNT may just surprise more than a few people this year...and by surprise I mean in a positive way! I am expecting to see a whole new attitude and a whole new "look" to the team this year with lots of different sets and coverages, etc. I think we have both the athletes and the coaches to make the positive changes that will carry this team to at least 7 wins! GO MEAN GREEN!

Excellent news...great job guys! -
Since I had "family duty" this morning and couldn't attend, i really appreciate your posting these pics...good stuff. Thanks for making the effort to help those of us who couldn't attend...much appreciated.

I can always count on you.

Agree...welcome. Would be great to have some Clemson perspective on the match-up.

So, tell me...why is a simple honest question worth -2 in points???? It's a fact that JUCO football signees have some challenges at times actually getting to enroll at their D1 programs and then there have been numerous cases where JUCO transfers don't stay for one reason or another...including academics. It was just a question guys...and honest one as I do not follow college softball all that closely..GEZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

I attended that game in person...those were the days. Was a member of the Dallas Texans "Huddle Club" as a kid. received free end zone tickets which were great as you could move seats to almost anywhere in the Cotton Bowl as there were so few fans there. My Dad and I even started a fire in the stands to keep warm at one game out of some papers we found...yes, it was THAT cold and that few people...no one even noticed. The Texans came up into the stands after one game to thank the fans who came out to the game...not that many hands to shake. I loved the Texans as a kid and was really sad when the Cowboys "won the toss" and the Texans moved to Kansas City.

When something needs done, you ask a busy person to do it. Those actually with the free time are often so busy doing nothing that they don't have time for anything. When things are important, you simply MAKE THE TIME. One of the challenges the nation faces today is that too many people leave it up to others to do the job and to make things happen while they ride the coattails and reap the benefits of the work and effort of others. I work a full-time job (like most on this board), but there are lots of hours left in the day, and there are weekends. It's simply too much fun "doing stuff" rather than sitting around. I guess I learned it many many years ago from my parents that one of the responsibilities we have as citizens of this great nation, this great state our our wonderful local communities is to "do something" to try to help. Seems only natural to me....plus, there really is lots of time left over to relax. Sorry, have to run...I have a golf outing today (yes, I am sneaking away from work) with a guy I am trying to talk into donating to the Mean Green Alumni Pavilion and the new stadium...and the guy is an Arkansas grad, but had a son graduate from UNT. See, sometimes you can combine fun with that "effort and concern". I'll say "thanks" for what I'll take as a compliment. Hopefully, all that "effort and concern" will at least give some pause to stop and think about how they look at such things. GO MEAN GREEN! -
He certainly has, and the Mean green nation now needs to step up and do its part to support the program. And, while at it...tell RV thanks.
-
Nicely done...thanks...Craig seems to really represent UNT well.
-
We sure do when it comes to support for a program many people "claim" to support. The good news is that support is growing, the bad news is that it is at a snail's pace...the cost of season tickets at UNT is VERY VERY reasonable. If you can't find room for anything else in the budget, consider buying one season ticket. Numbers are very important in trying to sell stadium naming rights, boxes, club seating, etc.

You mean like the time I actually walked into Celtic stadium in Glasgow, Scotland carrying a Glasgow Rangers shopping bag???? True story. It ending up getting us a free and very private tour of Celtic Park...even into the Chairman's room, lockers, trophy room and onto the pitch itself! Long story how that happened, but really pretty funny. I'll check the Greek league schedules and see if there is one at a time we can go...would love it and so would my bride. Tasty...really, really do appreciate all the help. maybe I should drag my bride over to your tailgate area before the Rice game so you can fill her and me both in on on the inside scoop. Very kind of you... -
Ha ha...that's funny. Air Force Lt. and Captain turn the keys and blow the enemy to kingdom come and the Army Sgt says "thanks for saving my hide"! OK, here's a little story I was once told by an Army capt. When the war starts... The Navy sits offshore and pounds the beach with shells to 'soften the defenses"; The marines then come ashore and take the beach and secure the high ground The Army then comes in and relieves the marines and march inland The the Air Force comes in and build the Officer's Club! And another from my Army Air Corps WWII enlisted vet Dad..."son, never sign up for any branch of the service except the Air Force or the Navy. Those guys know how to live and at least get hot meals and warm showers most of the time." Of course one might ask all the downed pi,lots and POW's fliers and crew about that "hot meals and warm showers" stuff. I, for one, appreciate every man and women who serves or who have served in ANY branch of the armed forces or Merchant Marine or Coast Guard. Were you aware that many members of the Coast Guard served in Viet Nam patrolling the rivers and took fire on a consistent basis from the enemy? And, are you aware that the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy is the ONLY academy allowed to fly a battle standard on its flag...not West Point, not the Naval Academy and Not the Air Force Academy. Why, because the Merchant Marines Academy is the only academy that sends its cadets/midshipmen into harm's way in times of conflict...in fact 147 midshipmen from the Merchant Marine Academy gave their lives in service to this great nation during WWII. I am very proud of my Air Force Service...hot meals and warm showers and all. AND...BTW...GO MEAN GREEN...BEAT ARMY!!!!!!

Look no further than Denton, Texas. I would not use your "dbags" reference, but it is no secret that way too many local area "fans" shift their loyalties to whichever way the wind is blowing at the time. The "loyalty" factor when it comes to a big segment of the local fan base is no where to be found. It boils down to character for me when it comes to the "native population". Hard to support the local team when it is going through a "challenging time"...takes character to do that...but, for some it's just too easy to "cut and run". I'd hate to have these folks looking out for my backside on a field of battle. They also like to find ready and lame excuses as to why they either don't or won't support the local teams. I agree, if you have spent much time living in other parts of the country, you don't see as much of this sort of thing. Maybe there is a study some sociology major can do on the subject or maybe it's a matter of having so many people move to the area that support their home teams even after moving. If the place you left was so great, why did you leave it in the first place????? -

Hey, Tasty...good deal...I'll try me some Mythos, and some Greek wine and a liqueur or two. But, I'm a beer guy, so I am sure Mythos will be my drink of the trip. Can't wait...if you have any ideas of "must sees" other than the usual in Athens let me know...we also go to Santorini and Crete (conference in Crete is the reason for the trip in the first place). Being in Athens, etc. with all the history will be a biggie for me. It's a city on my bucket list and must do's. -

Probably is...and if so it would be the first time the Greeks have done anything significant is what, say the last 200-400 years maybe! Ok, they did win the European Championship in football a couple of years ago. Give 'em that! BTW, I'll be in Greece in about a month, so I'm looking forward to seeing your "homeland". Do they have any great beers in Greece? Seems to me Greece is not known for its beer, but surely there is a local favorite or two. -
+1 for you. As small as my entourage is...I have it and we'll be there. Can't wait. I want to see a great UNT win and I want to see a super-sized crowd as well.
-
Absolutely...and what about going 6-5 and getting to a bowl game??? Can of worms it is, but it's "our" can of worms. I am looking for a much higher win count this season...GO MEAN GREEN!
