  1. See previous thread...but, yes, really happy to have this news behind us! GO MEAN GREEN!!!!
  2. The sad answer is that at this point it doesn't matter owing to the very poor attendance UNT gets from its home fans. I look forward to the day when UNT has to "blow-up" all that press seating that sits all but empty most games (except for a few students doing projects, George and Vito + a few extras) and has to put in seats to accommodate those wanting to actually purchase "premium seating". JJ has built a team that should have earned the fans AND STUDENTS respect by now...I really don't know what else JJ and company can do to help sell seats. Maybe the Athletic Dept. can come up with some promotions to help this season...sure could happen. Hope so.
  3. Congratulations to Nathan Tune and family. This is good news and good to get it behind the team as they prepare for Clemson. We are so very lucky to have both Tune and Thompson (and our other QB's for that matter as well) to lead the team into the season. I feel very confident in the QB's this season and it will only help to have Riley able to play a snap or two each game to keep the defenses on their toes. Can you imagine what defensive coordinators on opposing teams will have to game plan for now that they did not have to worry about a season ago? I can't wait for the season to start. I am 100% convinced that the Mean Green faithful will see a very new and improved Mean Green hit the field at Clemson on Sept. 4th. GO MEAN GREEN. Time to strap on the helmets and tee it off!
  4. I vote for Tune, but will be OK either way...both are good QB's and UNT can/will win with either at the helm.
  5. You guys are a piece of work...you even complain about a fellow member of the Mean Green Nation trying to do a favor for another member. I am sure that my offering to help will spell the doom of the Denton-Record Chronicle. I suspose both of you guys subscribe to the paper on a daily basis like I do and have done for over 30 years? Good grief. You are really reaching with this one.
  6. So, in today's Wall Street Journal there is a bit titled "Which Colleges Have the Most Star Power?" It lists the conferences by the number of recruiting stars their projected starters for 2010 average. The source is said to be Rivals.com, Phil Steele. Here we go...can you guess the rankings? Southeastern - 3.42 Pac-10 - 3.08 Atlantic Coast - 3.06 Big 12 - 3.05 Big Ten - 3.00 Big East - 2.63 Conf. USA - 2.28 Mountain West - 2.11 Western Athletic - 2.03 Mid-American - 1.95 Sun Belt - 1.87 You can decide for yourself how this effects your conference realignment thinking, if at all, but it is interesting to note (at least for me) that the ACC came in ahead of the Big 12 and Big 10. We all know that star rankings don't always mean that much when you strap it on and start hitting at the next level, but I do find the rankings interesting. What say you?
  7. I am hearing that it is a "DONE DEAL", but will wait on "official" announcement. This really makes me smile, and it is certainly the right thing for TD and company to do...even if they dropped the ball badly in the first place.... It's another great day to be a member of the Mean Green Nation!
  8. Just wanting to keep this on page 1...want everyone to know about the watch party for Clemson. Hope to see a lot of Alums and fans at Fox and Hound on game day for Clemson.
  9. Looks like that wrong has been righted...just waiting on the official confirmation from an "official" source, but looks good. This restores a bit of faith in the idea that hard work and taking care of business in every way will lead to good things....the kid has indeed EARNED IT! Great news...can't wait for that official confirmation!
  10. ABSOLUTELY....IF IT IS THE PLAYER I WAS TALKING ABOUT! And, I have a very good feeling that it is indeed....but, must wait for official confirmation!
  11. OK, drex, now that's eerily weird! You know what that sort of posting can do to all the conspiracy theorists on the board. You will get them all excited and the thread hijack will be on....... Pretty funny.
  12. Really tough call. Neither really distinguished themselves at Saturday's scrimmage, so hard for me to call. But, I will go with Tune because of his experience and because he is a senior and because I don't think Thompson has done enough to show that he should clearly be the starter at Clemson. How it will shake out as the season goes along, who knows? But, I think Nathan gets the nod. Either way...GO MEAN GREEN!
  13. I have to admit, Tasty, that's pretty good, and not that far from reality as well. Maybe they should schedule the show for, say, 3:00AM on Sunday mornings and just play a tape of your statements with TD's voice over. You do get a +1 from me...too funny! And, there all along I thought I would have to miss out.
  14. Mean Green 93-98...stop by my office in Lewisville on your way to Denton and I'll give you my copy. I've read it...it's really great...loved it. If you are interested, just give me a PM and let me know when you might be coming this way...if you head over from Arlington via 121 to I-35 that is...several other ways to get to Denton I realize. But, you are welcome to my copy if you wish. GO MEAN GREEN!
  15. Sure hope all the retired and "rich folks" who don't have to work enjoy the show. OK, I realize some working folks can make a lunch time show in Denton...I know, I know. But, really, why at NOON???? Is there really some reason for a noon show as opposed to an evening show? maybe TD's schedule is just such that an evening show will not work. Well, if it works and the house is packed, then all the good for them...no hard feelings, but sure wish at least sometimes it could be after work hours like it was a couple of years ago. I hope those that can attend, do...and that they will pass along any great tidbits of info to the rest of us who cannot attend. Please...and Thank You!
  16. So, who gets his scholarship????? I have a thought on that...a very deserving current walk-on was "overlooked" when the remaining scholarships were passed out this week. The guy is a starter in a special teams position and has definitely earned a scholarship after playing as a walk-on for the last couple of years. Why TD and Company did not reward his dedication and loyalty is beyond comprehension given a couple of the scholarships awarded. Every player deserves to have an honest chance at a scholarship. In this case the kid did everything...everything...asked of him, missed no off-season workouts, has his grade point average in line and was named a special teams starter. How does one simply OVERLOOK that kind of work ethic and loyalty to the program?????? All the while a rent-a-player in a position overcrowded with scholarship players gets a scholarship when everyone knows he will be gone in December...back to the university where he will graduate and where his loyalties will lie for the rest of his life...no thought to UNT his one-semester rent-a-school. What's up with that????? BTW...I wish every kid working hard on the team was on scholarship. It's a tough job and requires dedication and hard work. They are all deserving of support if they are good enough to be on the team in the first place. But, NCAA has limits, I understand...in this case, TD and Company may have just missed one of the "good and loyal walk-ons". Too bad and pretty sad situation in my humble opinion. I'll bet the player will handle it well and continue to play his heart out for the Mean Green.
  17. So she said! And, the time is right NOW for the Mean Green!
  18. Agree...However, if we do not start getting rears in the seats at the Pit for our home games there is not enough $$$$$ in the world to keep JJ at UNT. If you want to help JJ stay at UNT, buy season tickets and bring friends to the games...at least buy single game tickets when you can and bring friends. If we keep having 2500-300 in attendance it's probably over for JJ at UNT given the great job he is doing in having some great teams and great wins! Think it over...want to help...well, you can.....
  19. YES, unfortunately. But, it is not for want of trying. Some folks just refuse to pay attention to everything going on that is so very positive with UNT these days. Same old excuses without even stopping to look for themselves. But, the good news is that it seems to be changing, ever so slowly, much for the better! GO MEAN GREEN!
  20. I believe some have asked about Clemson watching parties. Well, come join the Denton Chapter of the UNT Alumni Association in the Burgundy room at Fox and Hound in Lewisville on Sept. 4th staring at 2PM for some MEAN GREEN FOOTBALL!!!! Let's have a packed house for the watch party...see you there!!!! GO MEAN GREEN! BEAT CLEMSON...this "ain't the SEC, you know. Clemson is in the ACC...could happen that the Mean Green surprise a bunch of folks and beat the Tigers!!!! Bring me some more of that green Kool-Aid...I need another sip!
  21. I really appreciate this explaination as for too long "others" were getting the blame and being accused of not wanting to do anything to help with this situation. It may have been something else some years ago, but today it seems it is all about the George Washingtons as you say. So, it looks like a chicken or the egg deal...no jearseys until people in larger numbers pony up the bucks, but no one can pony up the bucks until they have something to buy. Now, how do we break this dealock? Will it break when the Spirit Shop opens in the new stadium???? Who knows. By the way, Todd...love your stuff. We have purchased several items (mainly at the games), and will continue to do so. Appreciate your support and the great stuff you carry (and the competitive pricing)! GO MEAN GREEN!
  22. I hear you and agree that metroplex sports fans have lots of options. But, still no reason why UNT attendance is so low. Really, the metroplex has how many residents and alumni????? UTEP also does a decent job of getting the local community involved and in making the "game day experience" part of the package. Both of which, UNT is doing a much better job of doing these days...and it shows in a positive way on game days (at least with football). It is more than "just the game" these days that is important. The family "sports and entertainment dollar" has only so far to go. When deciding where to spend those very valuable discretionary dollars, one needs to consider all aspects of the experience. If you have a family, what is going on that will help make the 8-10 year old girls and boys want to attend and Mom and Dad knowing they will have to entertain the kids as well during the event? Make it an "experience" even before the gates open, get the community involved as well as the current student body and watch attendance grow. The minor leagues you reference know this and work hard on that "family experience" thing. Let's get some family promotions going for both football and basketball and see what might develop....yes, there are a few, but most in the metroplex have no clue they even exist. Let's expand them and get the word out that they exist. I wouldn't mind some promos including discounted tickets, food packages, etc. Heck, why not give it a shot.
  23. Oh, man, be still my heart! A convert! I gave you a +1 and would have given you multiple pluses if I could! Great win on a very hot day...my bride refused to go to the game yesterday because it was so hot, and I was about dead already from working in the yard until noon. Sorry to have missed the game...great win on a tough day for the Mean green! 2-0 to start...NICE! GO MEAN GREEN!
  24. The Denton Chapter of the UNT Alumni Assoc. is planning a WATCH PARTY for the game at a location convenient for folks in the area. We are trying to locate a venue outside of Denton to accommodate folks from other areas, but still within Denton County. We are going to check with the good folks at Fox & Hound in Lewisville so we can be "south of the lake" as "north of the lake" seems to "prevent" some from attending. We'll keep you posted on developments. Always fun to watch with other members of the Mean Green Nation.
