  1. regarding the couple of low snaps...none resulted in any damage and all punts went off without any blocks by Clemson. You may not be aware of the fact that Troy Kokjohn was hurt in the game in the first half and played the full second half with a hurt back. Should be fine for the Rice game. Rice will definitely try to rush our punter...as UNT should try to get in on Rice's punter and either rush the kick or try for a block. I thought that was a fairly "normal" part of a football game....you know, plan for some special teams play! Anyway, I agree that the Rice game will be no cakewalk and the team will need to play with the heart it played with against Clemson. But, snaps to UNT's punter is not something that is of any concern to me as the team prepares for the Rice game. That part is in good hands. One thing we need is a good "home field advantage" with a BIG CROWD. Rice is coming into the Mean Green's house, and they should be "welcomed" accordingly by a loud and large crowd. P.S. Let's treat the Rice fans who show up for the game with the same kindness and generosity that the Clemson fans showed the Mean green faithful who attended at Clemson last Saturday. Everything I have heard has been very positive. Let's send the Rice fans home after their loss to the Mean Green with very positive thoughts about the Mean Green Nation. Go Mean Green!
  2. Very much agree that the outcome was a good result for UNT. The NM teams was overall bigger, faster, quicker and stronger than the Mean Green (who actually looked like they were sleep-walking throughout the game...must have been tired from the recent travel). Showing that they can get a result when playing what would be seen as a "superior team" and when they definitely were not on top of their game, is a very good sign for this young team. I still think the Mean Green will be a team to be reckoned with during conference play. Good to see a nice crowd at yesterday's game as well. Got to see Bostonsports, Mean Green Matt and sat with SUMG (see I told you SUMG was a closet soccer fan...he may now be coming out of the closet... ! Nice job, ladies...GO MEAN GREEN!
  3. Just wanted to say thanks to all the great Mean Green fans who showed up for the UNT-Clemson watch party at Fox and Hound Saturday. We had a super crowd...I am estimating at well over 50 with the crowd spilling out into the main dining area. The manager told me that for the next watch party we could have the main room if we would like. He said it was the largest crowd we had ever had the their place. Anyway, thanks to all for making it a great day to be a Mean green fan. Personally, I enjoyed everything about the day...including how well the Mean Green played against Clemson. Also, thanks to Tasty for taking a bit of time out to talk to me and my bride about what we should be doing in Athens and Crete in a couple of weeks. There were lots of GMG.com members in attendance and it is ALWAYS good to talk to them in person. Got to meet Eulessismore and Mean Green Matt as well (nice to talk to a fellow soccer fan, Matt). This, on top of seeing lots of other fans and GMG.com posters! I think everyone went home happy with the event and the way the Mean Green played. The next Alumni watch parties will be for the Army game and several sites are being set up around the state at various Buffalo Wild Wing locations. Check out the Alumni web site for a location near you! GO MEAN GREEN! GO ALUMNI!!!!
  4. Really hated that call...of course, I am a Mean Green fan. For the life of me it looked like he was pointing to the Mean green fans. I think the ref should have used some discretion on that one. No way the kid was "taunting" the crowd of doing anything excessive. Massive call against the Mean green. If the game had been in Denton, perhaps the call does not get made, but it did. Players need to learn from this and STOP IT! Like Dodge said...put the ball down, go the bench and celebrate with your team. Man, stupid call, within the rules, yes, but stupid call by a ref who had his head up his Clemson rear end! OK, so I am prejudice about this, but come on...even referees should use their brains once in awhile. I saw Clemson do more celebrating after TD's with no flags! Good grief. But, maybe a lesson learned by the whole team. That cost UNT badly in field position and led to a Clemson score...tough to put the defense in a situation like that (and like the kick-off out of bounds) and expect them to stop a team like Clemson. I was hoping for a 3-point max on that.
  5. I really like our chances against Rice. Correct a few things from the Clemson game (everything that killed us against Clemson is correctable), and I think UNT will be 1-1 after this Saturday. It is a home game for the Mean green and these kids know they can win after playing Clemson as well as they did. UNT will not be heading into their home opener this year after getting pounded by someone. UNT did a little pounding at Clemson themselves. I was VERY proud of the way UNT played from the first to the last whistle. No quit and lots of effort. The home crowd could have a lot to do with who wins this game as well. The team played well against Clemson and has earned the right to have a BIG HOME crowd for the Rice game. I hope everyone who can be there will and I hope the students really get behind the team and show up in mass and fill the student side. Nice job at Clemson, guys, I think you may well have turned the corner where you will now believe that you can win every game. I believe in you as well...let's go beat the Owl stuffing out of Rice. Thanks for making me smile Saturday and for making it a great day to be a member of the Mean green nation. UNT- 31 Rice - 17 Dunbar gets 110+ and Tune hits 3 TD pases in the win. FG from 42 yards! GO MEAN GREEN!
  6. I think several of us have been mentioning that sort of thing for some time. Lots of people seem to be of the mind-set to "let others do it" or "my little donation couldn't help so why donate at all" or the inane line that "until this or that happens" I won't help. However, let's be thankful for those that do donate and buy season tickets and let's all do what we can to try to increase those numbers. It is a side benefit of the post card that some are now realizing just how much the support they give means to the program and really how few give. Sort of like the top 2% of earners in the country pay the vast majority of all income taxes, yet those are the ones the gov wants to tax even more! If everyone really did what they could, it would be amazing how much more the program could advance. So, a big "shout out" and "high five" to those who can and do give to the programs at UNT. Your generous support is VERY much appreciated. May many many more alums and friends join you in your support. GO MEAN GREEN!
  7. Nope...just studied a little history...maybe you slept through those courses while at UNT. That and understanding that the whole world wasn't created by "college kids in their dorm rooms".
  8. But he sure knew how to party like a college kid! That "stuff" has consequences.... Hmmm...really didn't know anout that syphillis thing! Really?
  9. OK, the Wright Bros. have been mentioned...perhaps you have heard of: Thomas Edison Henry Ford Frank Lloyd Wright Ben Franklin Isaac Singer Walt Disney Henry J. Kaiser Ray Kroc Milton Hershey John D. Rovckerfeller Andrew jackson Abe Lincoln Amadeo Giannini (Bank of America) Ansel Adams George Eastman (Kodak) Could add lots more, but you should get the point by now....Uh....No!
  10. I mean "Uh....NO" because your grasp of history is a bit distorted to say the very least. If my memory of history serves me well, I seem to recall many other great inventors that helped shape America and the world...some of which never went to any college. Again, Uh....No!
  11. +1 for you this morning. You are 100% CORRECT and spot on! On the other hand, I am not opposed to using private industry and private funding for such projects. It's not so much the wind turbines that I oppose, it's the use of taxpayer dollars to force this stuff on the country. It's another "agenda" that seems to be gathering steam because it's a "feel good" agenda thought up by those same folks who "never grow up" and think it's great as long as "other people's money" is doing the funding. Much easier to spend "other people's money". Just ask to Bozos in D.C.
  12. Uhhhhhhh...NO!
  13. OK, what was that white guys name who flew the plane into the IRS building in Austin just this last year? Seems "white guys" are, indeed, capable of being stupid and flying planes into buildings. Just thought I'd mention that since you have missed the point and want to "hammer" on only flying planes into buildings. I can understand your feelings on this issue...it is a real problem in today's world, but really, you have to admit that stupidity is not confined to any religious group or race, etc. Stupidity and intolerance (an I am not thinking of the PC type of "can't we all just get along" and let's "stick our heads in the sand and pretend" it isn't true intolerance here) probably create most of the challenges facing everyone in to day's world.
  14. While not on an airplane, Tim McVay comes to mind. Stupidity is not confined to any race or religion. I do, however, believe in taking no chances and see absolutely nothing wrong with erring on the side of caution regarding certain situations.
  15. One thing that will make it "special" is that you would be with a bunch a great Mean Green fans...all having a great time supporting the Mean Green. I am guessing there will be specials on beer and other stuff. Give either the Pourhouse or Fox and Hound a look-see, I'll bet you will have a good time and it won't break the bank. If you want to come to the Fox and Hound event, I'll buy you a beer! GO MEAN GREEN!
  16. I am not believing this! First, complaint after complaint about NOT having a Houston site for a watch party...then a Houston site is set up by Buffalo Wild Wings and the Alumni Association, along with sites in other areas of the state as well, for the Army game and immediate complaints start regarding the site selected. Amazing. I think I need to find a aspirin.
  17. The Alumni Assoc. is not doing any "official" watch parties around the state for the Clemson game. However, several are planned for the Army game and details will be out soon. I know this has been mentioned many times with varying degrees of success, but I am happy to help you with ideas and contacts if you wanted to sort of take the lead in trying to set up some regular gatherings and watch parties in the Austin area. Lots of UNT alums in the area, so it should be relatively easy (with a little work) to get some events going. PM me if you would like to chat further. GO MEAN GREEN!
  18. So sad. And, not true at all...IF you would get off that apparently lazy duff of yours and do something about it in Houston. Again, if anyone wants to get something going in their home areas regarding such things as watch parties and/or alumni mixers, PM me and I'll help you get something going with some ideas and contacts. It is not hard...it just takes a bit of effort and leadership. Two things "houstonmeangreen" is apparently very short on these days or so it seems. My offer to help you "houstonmeangreen" stands, but for some odd reason i have the feeling that I won't hear from you. But, keep posting your snide comments on GMG.com if it makes you feel better about yourself.
  19. Welcome to the board "BeatNavy", but sorry...Navy will hand Army another loss this season. Army is "moving up" and getting better, but still a ways to go to stack up against Navy. The Midshipmen will take the game again this year. And, for the first time my bride and I will be in Philly to see the Midshipmen beat Army in person. If you will be there, we should hook-up the evening before for a beer and a toast to all the players...great kids all and fine citizens and leaders all.
  20. Now, that's funny. A +1 for you, Sir!
  21. Good reason (as if another good reason was needed) to join the Mean Green Club. I think the Mean Green Club is another area that is seeing increased emphasis by the athletic department and one in which benefits to membership are increasing. Especially at "away games" admission "requirements" should be fairly relaxed. On the other hand, if benefits to membership are open to all-comers regardless of membership or not, are you not negating the "membership" and lowering the value of your product? Why join when you can get the benefits of membership without helping to support the program? Maybe the answer is a "student" level Mean Green Club membership fee. Maybe that could develop some early interest in developing long-term Mean green Club membership and support.

My biggest two concerns going into the season are: 1) (by a wide margin) the entire defense. I think it is time for Coach DeLoach to show what he is capable of doing with the Mean Green. The defense has been responsible for much of the problems the Mean green has encountered in the last couple of years. I am hopeful that we will all see a "new and improved D" this season. Will we? I think, yes, absolutely. 2) The kicking game. From what i have seen and heard, we could be in for another bumpy ride here, but, as the season progresses I expect to see this area of the game improve dramatically. Man, it's going to be fun to be a member of the Mean Green Nation this year! Let's get it on! GO MEAN GREEN!
  23. ANY AND ALL UNT FANS AND FRIENDS ARE MORE THAN WELCOME./ In fact, any event held by the Denton Alumni Chapter is open to any and all friends, students, alums and fans of UNT. Never hesitate to come to one of our events and never hesitate to bring friends with you...UNT alums are not! Great question...thanks. Hope to see you there Saturday with a bunch of your friends. GO ALUMNI...GO MEAN GREEN!
  24. Yes, logistics may be a bit tougher, but national TV exposure for JJ and the team is a very good thing. Just win it, baby!!!! GO MEAN GREEN!
  25. Just do it in the privacy of your own home or office.
