  1. This. +1 for you, Sir. In my opinion, it is never the thing to do to yell insults at players and/or coaches. Yell all you want, be disappointed, be happy, heck, even be grumpy, but try to show a little class while you are at it during the games. Does anyone really think any of the coaches or players are not trying their best to win the game? It might not be enough, and certainly hasn't been in the last few years, but they go out and plan and work hard for every game and try their best to win. Sometimes people act the way they do because they need, for some reason, to bring attention to themselves or they feel they have a right to do what they do. OK, fine, but try to think first and yell second. There are any number of reasons to "show some class" even when others around you are not! An ex-player sat with us at the last game, and I can tell you that he was just as disappointed as any one else in the stadium with the outcome, but he uttered not one "bad word" about any player or any coach. He has been there and done that, and I think those that have feel a special bond to those in the heat of battle currently. This kid had the pleasure of playing in a New Orleans Bowl, but he also suffered through some defeats while a player for UNT. He mentioned that it is usually those who "think" they know what's going on that over-react during games. Interesting comment, I thought. By the way, he also didn't rag on any fans. He knows the deal and knows that people buy tickets and hope for a "good show" and a win. He said fan have every right to be upset with the current situation, but everyone needs to watch what they say and who they say it too as ex-players, friends, wives, grandparents, kids, etc. all sit nearby.
  2. We'll see what he brings Saturday. But one thing we know he brings is a "want-to" attitude. A "want-to" help the Mean green win just like Nathan, Micah, Ford, JJ, etc., etc. all brought to the team before their injuries. Thompson is a big kid (but so is Nathan) that can move pretty well and can throw on the run (all qualities I believe Nathan had as well). He is young and fairly inexperienced, but can make up for that with good decisions...plus some decent blocking by the patched up O-Line could really help as well. Hopefully, we will witness the "coming of age" of Thompson as this season's newest leader at QB. GO MEAN GREEN! The Mean Green Nation is in full support!
  3. Harry...photo please and thank you! To KingDL1 and Drex...many thanks...I am sure they are great and I apprecaiate all you do in support of the Mean Green!
  4. This is your idea of a joke, right? I hope you are just "down" a bit after the Rice game and do not really think this will be the final score.
  5. You are talking about the Dallas Cowboys here, right?
  6. Yes, after the Rice game I am not to certain I want to predict any scores for UNT games this season. But, I will, as usual, go with the Green Kool-Aid and say: UNT - 31 Army - 30 I just like the way that looks in reverse. UNT wins a close one on Army's home turf!!!! GO MEAN GREEN!!!!
  7. Good luck with that...I've given up trying!
  8. Maybe...give it a shot.
  9. Not a college, but check out the Washington Redskins. It happens at all levels!
  10. Sorry, you are very ill informed on this...NO Cadet playing for Army or Air Force or Midshipman playing for Navy is ever "ordinary". They are outstanding young men and the future leaders of this great nation of ours. Ordinary they are not. Had to add that as you did not specify what you meant by "ordinary". However, UNT will beat the un-ordinary Steelman and his Cadets Saturday! Glad to see he will play...no excuses for Army when UNT takes 'em down Saturday! GO MEAN GREEN!
  11. Yes, sorry...hit the wrong key...spell check was no help this time...and, I did mean Cold Harbor, yes that battle!
  12. Absolutely! Plus one for you, Sir!
  13. NO, you don't fire Coach Dodge if we lose to Army. The mandate from RV was to win seven, or so everyone on the board seems to think. So, the idea that you even consider firing your head coach with the possibility of seven wins remaining and before you even get into conference play is pretty lame. I understand the frustration after the last few losing seasons and some blowout losses. It gets old and gets tough to hang in with the program. I get that, but I also believe in honoring contracts and agreements. Yes, even in college athletics and even if only one side seems to think contracts and agreements are meant to be honored. This isn't some video game or TV drama where everyone walks away happy and all the "good guys" aren't really hurt, this is the real deal. In the "real deal" one honors their word...well, the ones with character and dignity do at least. GOOD LUCK COACH DODGE and Co. BEAT ARMY!!!!!
  14. So, how does he get immediate eligibility? This seems rather interesting and very questionable, but no one actually believes the NCAA really has rules that are the same for everyone, right?
  15. And, you see plenty of fords and Kias around the SMU campus. This will be a great game and the ladies should be in a tough battle on their home turf. UNT has a real shot at winning this game and a big home crowd will certainly help. Go get 'em Mean Green! Beat SMU!!!!!!
  16. Not much hard evidence at all...just seems to be more fun and a lot less stress to look for the positives. Besides, IT'S COLLEGE FOOTBALL...it's fun...it ain't the Battle of the Bulge, D-Day or Coal Harbor or the Alamo, it's college football! Just think how much fun it will be if the seven wins come and some folks might have to drink a bit of that green kool-aid. If seven wins don't come, I'll be there supporting the next guy if it comes to that. No need with 2 games into the season to start the doom and gloom. Everyone here knows the drill and probably doesn't need anyone reminding them on a daily basis. The bride and I had a great time Saturday. It would have been even better without the injury to Nathan and the loss.
  17. Alumni Assoc. is setting up watch parties across the state at Buffalo Wild Wings locations. The sites are listed in another thread, so I won't repeat here ... just look on the alumni site of search the football thread.
  18. That's why they are D1 backs...they are supposed to know how to do this "hard stuff". I am wondering why when one is obviously beat such as we saw more than once Saturday evening, and with the 15 yd. penalty and not a spot foul, our DB's just didn't grab a shirt or knock the guy down? Fifteen yards is a bunch better than a TD or 40-50, etc.
  19. So, what happens this season when UNT wins seven and goes to a bowl? Any change in that so overly positive attitude you seem to carry around all the time? Just wondering...
  20. If you don't want to do something in the first place, or maybe if its too hard, one can always find an excuse. Nothing new about that when it comes to support for UNT or anything else that gets a bit tough. You know who your friends are when the times get tough. No problem...when the bandwagon gets rolling they'll be back and will be telling everyone how they sat through all the tough years. Bank on it! That's they way it usually goes with this sort of thing. I wish them no ill will and will be glad to have them back when the winning starts or the regime is changed or whatever else they have as an excuse right now. Just wouldn't want them "next to me in a foxhole when the shooting starts". Just saying..... Go Mean Green!
  21. Absolutely we can win the Sunbelt. The season isn't over by a long way, and there are as many good things to discuss about the way UNT played Saturday as the "bad" things that happened. I know that the vast majority of Mean green fans will not give up on this team and I can promise you, the team won't give up! GO MEAN GREEN! If you go to the Dodge Show today at the Pourhouse, let's give TD some support and be positive about the season. A "little love" never hurts when times are tough. The season will play out and things will be determined about the future of the Mean Green one way or the other. being positive and supporting this team and its coaching staff can only help.
  22. Thoughts and prayers are with you, Nathan. Thanks for the leadership you have shown and for all you have done for the Mean green nation. get well soon so you can help lead the Mean Green through the season in the film room, in team meetings at practice and on the sidelines for game day. UNT needs your leadership more now than ever. It has been my pleasure watching you play for the Mean Green. Hope to see you back with the team soon. GO MEAN GREEN!
  23. I have been a member for several years...I've never seen a card and don't have one now. The list is fine and there has been no problem. Call Jon...you'll be taken care of in a flash!
  24. It broke my heart to see Nathan go down last evening. Great kid and great family. My thoughts and prayers go out to them, but I know they will all be just fine. They are a great family and have a strong sense of what's important in life. Nathan was a favorite of mine and I will definitely miss him. He could have "packed it in" a year ago, but chose to stay with the Mean green. His leadership showed and the team is better off because he made the decision to stay. Nathan, you handled it well on the field last night as I expected you would....all the best to you and may you have a speedy recovery. The Mean Green Nation is in your debt! GO MEAN GREEN!
  25. PRICELESS moments. From one who's "little one" is now 32, I want to tell you how much your post "warmed my heart" after such a heartbreaking loss. I was fortunate enough to get to meet you and your son at the Fox and Hound watch party, and asked about his arm and his football experience. It was obvious to me tat he loves football, but he loves being at football events with his Dad even more. Enjoy each moment as in a blink of an eye your 10 year old will be 31 just like my "little guy". Best post I have read in along time and really places the game in its most proper perspective. Hope to see you at the next home game...you and your son! GO MEAN GREEN!
