Don't worry...probably a no show anyway.

Nice to see the report. I appreciate RV for doing these little reports from time to time. While football is definitely the "bell cow" of the program, it is also extremely important for the overall athletic program at UNT to be in good shape. And, it very much seems that it is in that "very good shape". Football, while currently "down", will be back, and I believe it will be so sooner than later. May the Mean Green faithful hang in there as the ride to the top will be oh so very sweet. GO MEAN GREEN! Thanks, Rick for taking the time to post the report.

Will is doing a fine job...only problem is that Will is getting too much playing time!

With the team in the "state" of w/l record that it is, it is not surprising at all that folks would want to speculate on the next head coach should TD not be UNT's head coach next season. However, it is unreasonable to think, given the current state of funding, that UNT could lure away some big name college coach. Until the fans and alums start actually contributing to the program, start filling the stadium and start actually supporting the program the funds will not be available to pay the "big names" that some are mentioning. A good bit of the funding for these big name guys come from the donations of the alums and fans, and, yes, that T-Shirt Alumni group. Heck, at this point UNT doesn't have enough fans or students who even want to wear UNT T-Shirts on a regular basis to make much of a difference even within the metroplex. One can complain all they want, and find all sorts of reasons to stop coming to the games, to stop or withhold donations, to not give to the stadium fund, etc., etc., but until the fan base actually does step up and get behind the program, UNT will not be hiring any BIG NAME coach. And, that may not be such a bad thing. I like the idea of finding the "next big thing" and letting that guy turn the program around. Those "big names" have not always been "big names", and each got a start somewhere. And, if you will check...not all big names do so well in trying to rebuild a program. Anyway, what will happen at the end of the season will happen and RV will make the very best decision he can for the Mean Green. I'll support that decision and do what I can to help, but until then...I will enjoy this season and stay behind the team and this coaching staff. Can't wait for Saturday, beautiful weather, tailgating and college football at Fouts! GO MEAN GREEN.

Well, "young fella"...HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY...it's your day....you own it! Make it a special one. Thanks for all your support for the Mean Green.

Now, that, for certain is bad. Team (players and coaches and RV, etc.) need our support now as the Mean green nation endures this very tough season of injuries and losses. I don't blame you are anyone for being frustrated, mad, disappointed, sick, etc., etc. I doubt nthere is any Mean Green fan happy with the way the season is going, but that does not mean that these players are giving up. I see no "give up" in the players, so I am not going to give up on them. I encourage all members of the Mean green Nation to stay behind this team, to come tailgate and come to the games...if for no other reason that you ARE a Mean green fan and you support the players in the efforts they are all making to fight through this season. Please give it another thought...and all fans, please do not give up on these players. They haven't given up on you!

Really, had not heard this before your post. Is this true? If so, why are they playing in Fouts and why did they schedule the game at the end of THIS season when the plans for the stadium always had it opening the season, not closing one???? Not saying it "ain't so", I have just never heard this. Or, did I miss the humore here? That could also be true! -
North Texas Coach Todd Dodge Wouldn't Have His Son
KRAM1 replied to gangrene's topic in Mean Green Football
Classy response from a class act as a father, as a coach and as a human being. Say what you want about his tenure here at UNT, but he is a fine man and one that I would have been proud to call "coach". ...and friend! -
Any real idea as to why McCoy is not playing? I wouldn't jump to a discipline issue unless I had reason...which I don't and I am not aware of any announcement from the team. I, too, think McCoy has been a very good player when he does hit the field and wonder why he is not getting more time. But, sure don't want to jump to any conclusions as to why. Anyone have any inside scoop? BTW...I know that no one here jumped to the conclusion of a discipline problem being the reason. I just don't want that to "rumor out" as I don't think there has been any announcement of such. One never knows, he may have a injury that flares up from time to time making his availability uncertain. However, would love to see him in on a few more plays each game.

"My city's in shambles, my city's in shambles, ride back...ride back". Ok, a little play on the Boss' song, but shambles it is thanks to several factors. But, the one thing that we all should and can be proud of is the way this team battles given the adversity it has been under all year. One can knock Coach Dodge for whatever one wants, but he has these guys playing and believing from start to finish. I have seen absolutely no "give up" in this team when, by all rights it could have done just that on several occasions. So, I am guessing we will all see a Mean Green team that will give you all that it has on every play for the rest of the season. That, my fellow Mean Green nation members, is something I (and you) can be very proud of in this team. Sure, it is appearing more and more likely that a major shake-up is coming at the end of the season. For that I am truly sorry and truly wish that it were not so, but business it is, and RV will make the decision that he thinks is the best for the program. I'll support that decision and support the Mean Green as most of those who post on GMG.com will. Until then, this coach and this team has my respect and support. Keep the faith in these players. That have earned our support by the effort they make and the way they take pride in what they do....GO MEAN GREEN! See you at Fouts for the next game!

This game will be very important for Canales and Co. to develop a quality game plan to help Chase in his first start. I think this game will be very "telling" as to what UNT has in an offensive coordinator. I think UNT has a very good one in Caneles, and this game is the type of game that he should make a difference in with a quality and creative game plan. Very exciting for Chase and the team, and, I too, have a very positive feeling about this game. Could it be? Yes! Good luck Chase and the Mean green. And, let's hope Canales and Co. are at their very best today. And, for that matter, lets hope DeLoach and Co. has found a way to stop giving up those long TD plays each game to put the offense in the hole. A stop in the first few possessions by Ark. St. will really help the confidence and bring a great chance for a victory to the Mean green. GO MEAN GREEN...win #2 TODAY!!!!!! Yes, Yes!

So, Okie Lite as some like to call it pulled away pretty good in the second half I would say. And "Okie Lite", maybe, but how would you like UNT to be 5-0 at the moment and probably leading the nation in scoring average? OSU played a very poor fist half which seems to be normal for the season, but watch out 2nd half. Seems the OSU coaching staff has a way of making some excellent adjustments at half. Anyway, OSU got the win and now head into the meat of their conference schedule. Nebraska and OU in Stillwater this season, but not sure the 'Pokes can overcome bad first halfs against the likes of Neb. and OU even if they are playing at home. How about taking over an hour to play the first quarter??? Ugh. Anyway, OSU got a win on the raod in a game they should win...and did. We'll see what happens the rest of the way, but I would really love UNT to be 5-0 like the 'pokes are right now! GO MEAN GREEN....beat "Arkie Lite". -
From your comprehension abilities I would say you aren't actually reading them anyway...feel free to ignore them and concentarte on "Dick and Jane" books.

Nice job...what do you teach? What department? Glad to have professors who care about the university's overall health. Having professors who ignored (and worse bad mouthed) the program over the years has been one of the major problems UNT faced. There is still quite a bit of that attitude among your peers. Perhaps you can use the perspective you have to help change that attitude as well. It definitely has gotten better, but it has a long way to go...if the faculty and staff got behind the program it would go a long way in helping the student body get behind the program. As you know, faculty and staff tend to have a way of influencing the attitudes of their students. Thanks for your support. UNT could use more profs like you. GO MEAN GREEN!

drex...drex...you are definitely NOT personna non grata.....give Rob a call and let him know. I'll bet they do what they can to get the word out. In fact, we discussed the great PR Cynthia Izaguirre has been giving HER University lately. In fact, I am going to make Channel 8 my local news station because of her...so long 5, 11 and 4! Way to go Cynthia...a proud alum who is not afraid of showing her pride. FANTASTIC! GO MEAN GREEN!

So I guess you are reading impaired? Once more, now children......

Ok, let's be clear about this...i did not mean to say that one should NOT ever wear a shirt for a team they are a fan of if they did not attend the school. It's a reference Tony Casillas made regarding fans who wear the shirts all the time but never set foot on the campus as a student and probably graduated elsewhere. He indicated the T-Shirt alums often give BIG BUCKS to OU...so he was not totally knocking the t-shirt alum folks and neither am I...my only irritation comes from UNT students and Alums who continually wear the colors of other colleges and universities in lieu of wearing UNT gear...their actual university. I have no problem if you want to wear UNT gear to a UNT game or anywhere else for that matter. One can adopt a college/university for very good reason....just burns my "you know what" when I see so many UNT alums and students wearing other university gear and acting like they attended, etc. So. Lurker...wear your green proudly to the game and everywhere else for that matter. One can "wise up" and realize they should have gone to UNT in the first place...or maybe they have moved to the area and have grown to love and support UNT or maybe they or their significant other works for UNT, etc., etc. And, sit anywhere you please...it will be great to have you "in the house Saturday" cheering for the Mean Green!
-
I heard, what I think, is the best ever name for those who like to wear t-shirts and other branded items of colleges and/or universities they have never attended. In listening to Tony Casillas on a show before the recent Texas-OU game he referred to the game as bringing out the most "T-SHIRT ALUMNI" of any game very season. T-Shirt alumni are, according to Mr. Casillas, those who have never attended or graduated from a college or university but wear the teams branded items and act as if they attended/graduated. PRICELESS! Seems that UNT has a good many of these types all across the campus and within its alumni and former student base. Folks who wear Texas, OU, OSU, Florida, TCU, etc., etc. t-shirts, hats, sweatshirts and on and on while shunning those from their actual university...UNT! We see this in Denton and Dallas all the time. Now, many of the T-shirt alums from Texas, OU, OSU, etc. give big bucks to the schools, so Tony wasn't necessarily "dissing" t-shirt alums, just mentioning that they turn out in force for the Texas-OU game every year. In the case of UNT, I would think T-shirt alum would take on a bit of a different (and less positive) connotation. "T-Shirt" alums...gotta love the concept!

Nothing against Canales or DeLoach as interim coaches if (IF) it comes to that, but neither pack any excitement for the fan base and/or the "bandwagon fans" in MY OPINION. So, if UNT goes in the direction of a new head coach for next season it needs to be one from the outside to generate as much excitement as possible for the new season and new stadium and new "direction". The "new guy" can retain either or both and I would be fine with that, but, for me, I want a new guy from outside if it comes to that.

Interesting Fact About Corky Nelson...

Thanks for the stroll down memory lane....maybe having been around the program for all these years is one of the reasons I know that things can and do change over time. The Mean Green will be "back on top", and that's a very good thing indeed. -
Me too.
