  1. I think he would feel just fine and would be very proud watching his son play. There would be plenty of people who would welcome him with open arms to their tailgate. If I were in his shoes I would come back and watch my son and I would be proud to do it. He's not the first coach to be fired nor will he be the last. Nothing to drag you rear around about and hide. I agree...kudos to Coach Dodge.
  2. That is an interesting story. It will be fun to see how he progresses at OSU. Sounds like he has the size, speed and athletic ability to be successful, but interesting that his lack of experience has not hampered him to date at the JC level. D-I is another thing, but sure seems like this kid is a "find" for OSU. Too bad UNT didn't get there first.
  3. I hope to see him at the games. Great guy and one of the most professionally done and classiest exits of any coach I have seen. How Coach Dodge is handling this should be a model for all. GO MEAN GREEN!
  4. I've said all along Rangers in 6 and I am staying with it! GO RANGERS!
  5. Rumor or fact? Shady or illegal? Define "shady" please. Agree, lots is happening in Waco these days, and not being a Baylor fan, I don't follow it that closely, but from what I have seen, it seems to me to be a bunch of "air" at this point as to what may be considered "shady dealings". Problems dealing with teenagers with big egos? No doubt, ask Mike Leach, Jim Leavitt or any coach at the college level, but I need a bit more smoke before I call in the FBI. If you follow Baylor closely, please let us all know what you know about the situation from the inside. THANX.
  6. Man, there goes one set of tickets I paid for. Too bad for me, but really not a bad idea if you can get DISD students and UNT students to attend. If the UNT students did actually come to this game they might be inclined to come back during the season, so I am OK "donating" the costs of my tickets to this game even though there is no way we can make it to a noon game. It sucks that one has to actually work for a living sometimes! GO MEAN GREEN. Anyone know if there will any sort of push from the PR/promotions folks centered around student turnout? Sure hope so and think there will be, but haven't seen or heard of anything as yet.
  7. I don't want UNT to lose any players. I am not sure UNT can afford to lose any one at this stage of the game. But, the players you mention are certainly important going forward.
  8. A bit sad as well, isn't it?
  9. Look folks, it is what it is...if you worry about what others say on message boards, you will always be in a tizzy. The way we help change that reputation is to get involved and stop being so negative about our own school. When a lot of people do not think its own grads, students and fans respect and support the program, then what would you expect an outsider's attitude to be? If all I ever heard from TCU grads was how bad things were then why would I have any reason to think they were not all bad? I am proud of being a UNT alum and I am proud of the way UNT is heading. UNT is not defined by its won-loss record in football even if some believe it is. Winning will come and when it does it will be oh so very sweet to those who have endured and remained in support of UNT through the tough times. Sure, there will be plenty of bandwagon fans jumping on board when the wins come...great...bring them on board...the more the merrier as some might just stay and actually become donors and ticket buyers. You want other people and other schools to start respecting UNT? Then start by respecting it yourself and telling everyone you see that you are proud to wear Mean Green green and you are proud to be an alum/supporter, etc. of UNT. Let them say what they want around the water cooler at work and on message boards...have some fun with it and take it and give some smack back, Why not? You can always find something "fun" to say about any other school whose alums and fans are knocking your program. Heck, I graduated from Oklahoma State as well as UNT, and don't for any second think we don't hear it from every OU fan as often as they can get one of us in ear shot. But, don't think for one minute that it has any impact on OSU alums and fans other than to fire them up for the next game against OU! Respect yourself, respect your school and be proud. In some cases, people will stop knocking UNT in your presence when they find out you will stick up for UNT and be proud doing so. That is all. Now, GO MEAN GREEN!
  10. Yes, once again...a promise unfulfilled! Sigh.....fool me once, shame on you...fool me twenty five times, well, you know where that goes. I even waited for my first beer as long as I could and told "Sam" our server person (Sam being of the female persuasion) that I would need a Blue Moon wheat with two straws....Jilted once again. Promises, promises... BTW...no to chocolate Stout! UGH!
  11. Your point is?
  12. +1 for you sir. I would not trust Mike Leach as far as I could pick him up and throw him...and the last time I looked and from Flyers avatar it looks like I couldn't throw Mr. Pudgy very far! HA! Once more, NO to Mike Leach for UNT. The guy is much more suited to be some position coach or coordinator in the pros than on any college campus having to deal with their administration, their boosters and young men. It's an opinion folks...if you like Leach for UNT...OK, good for you.
  13. You just have to smile. Thanks, Rick. Good things are happening at UNT...one needs only to open their eyes and take a look. It "ain't your father's UNT" any more, and that doesn't only apply to athletic facilities. GO MEAN GREEN!
  14. Really appreciate this response and the earlier one to GreenDozer. The fact that you are willing to come on this board and acknowledge that it has, indeed, been a problem and one that must be addressed says a great deal to me about where this program expects to go and be in the very near future. As a noted author once wrote "these are the worst of times, these are the best of times". It will be what we all make it, but the first step is being able to recognize past mistakes and moving forward. Not in dwelling on those mistakes nor in holding past mistakes against the program or its supporters be they in business or individuals. Together, we CAN and WILL move this program to a higher level. I remain a VERY proud member of the Mean Green nation. Go Mean Green.
  15. Joe...I'm with you...just baby steps that's all. If more people had been wearing UNT logo'ed items through the years the producer would not have had to ask that question because the vast majority probably would have been wearing green. Well, one shade of green or the other that is....I appreciate the fact that you DID take the flag to NYC with you. That's a proud Mean green Nation member for sure. We need more members of that proud nation like you.
  16. If you are referring to the Green/White Texas flag...I bought one not that long ago at the Student Union on campus.
  17. What you mention has definitely been a challenge in the Denton Community for many many years. There has been a "town and gown" gap for as long as I can remember, but, Dozer, do you see it changing a bit for the better these days? I believe I have seen some positive movement along these lines, but as I am not a local small business owner would love your take on the matter.
  18. Oh, man...1...2...3...
  19. Frankly, for me it's an "I don't care what you call me as long as you call me for dinner" sort of thing with the shirt color. At this point, I really don't care what color the shirt a fan is wearing as long as it says UNT, North Texas, Mean Green., etc., etc. Now, coaches and athletic dept personnel should definitely be wearing Mean Green gear each and every time they are out in the public representing UNT or "on the clock". If in a suit or more formal attire, a UNT pin will do for me for that occasion. UNT needs more and more people wearing gear that sports the UNT name, logo, etc....even if it is pink! I know that will upset some folks here, but first things first. let's get people supporting UNT and then worry about the color of the shirt, hat, etc. they are wearing. My guess is that if you have a black, pink, blue UNT logo'ed item, you might just also have a GREEN one that you also wear. This, of course does not apply to coaches and staff as I mentioned earlier in the post. My hope is that someday we will see 100% of students and alums and fans on game day wearing Mean Green GREEN, but until that day arrives, I'll settle for any color that sports a UNT or Mean Green reference. To me that is much better than seeing our students and fans walking around in a UT, OU, etc., etc. logo'ed item. baby steps..... GO MEAN GREEN!
  20. Joe...agree. One thought comes to mind. While an assistant, I have not seen Coach Canales "out and about" very much at all in the local community. Do you think that might change during his stint as interim HC? I hope so, as people may get to know him a bit better...think he will continue the Monday radio show?
  21. Where have you been GreenBat? I've missed your posts lately?
  22. I'll stay with my original prediction...RANGERS in 6. Colby is the Man to get it done in 6! I think the Rangers just want to win this in front of the home crowd. Not saying they lost game 5 on purpose, but maybe they just didn't have all their heart and soul into it, wanting "in the backs of their minds" to win if in front of the home crowd. Rangers will OWN the Yankees in game 6 after the game 5 loss! Mark it down.
  23. OK, here's a question for everyone. Simple question...will you support the program however you can through season ticket purchases, Mean green Club memberships, donations to the stadium fund (at any level possible big or small), buying and attending individual games if you cannot buy season tickets, by bringing friends and/or family members to attend games (and maybe become fans)attending games, or simply by wearing and displaying Mean Green logos and not talking bad about the school or program, etc. no matter who is selected as the next head coach for UNT? I ask because it seems we have folks (and not just on this board) who support the program "conditionally". Conditioned upon how they feel about something one way or the other. That is every one's right to do and to support or not support as they feel, but if UNT is to ever get over the hump and become that "big time champagne program" that we all say we want it to become, then UNT needs people to support the program however they can. So, no "value judgement" attached, just a simple question. I have said that even if Mike Leach is anointed the next head coach I will support the program. It's UNT and it's the program that I support. UNT and the program is bigger than any one individual in my opinion. What do you say?
