Thanks to all...it will be a fine birthady indeed...why? Because I woke up this morning...at my age that's getting to be a dandy thing indeed! Don't beat 'em...just outlive 'em.

From what I have seen on and off the field, I would be just fine with Coach Canales as our new HC.
-
I sure couldn't tell that from some of the postings on this board! Ha!
-
Agree 100% Silver...good call!
-
Amazing...simply amazing.

THAT'S what I'm talking about...way to go Mean Green. Now, the warm-ups are over...on to Texas Tech Tuesday. It will be so very great to see UNT whip the Red Raiders! GO MEAN GREEN!

SCORE????? Please....

Cut it any way you want...this is really great. Those elementary kids probably got a big kick out of the event, and the university may have won over a friend or two. This is EXACTLY the sort of thing that needs to be done to bring the community and the university closer together. I applaud the program for taking the time to volunteer to do this sort of thing. Thanks, Coach Canales for attending yourself and taking some players with you. I'll bet the UNT group had as much or more fun than the kids at Savannah. Radio...thanks for letting us know!

Unt Recruiting Class Ranked #31 In The Nation

With a University of over 36000 students and a local area alumni base numbering in the hundreds of thousands, there should be plenty of basketball fans to fill that arena...or at least average 5-6,000 per game at a minimum. People post on this board constantly about how a winning program will make the fans and students turn out for the games...REALLY? Time for the UNT student body and alums to "make it happen". These guys deserve and have EARNED the right to play before good sized crowds at home game in and game out. -
Has the injury curse shifted from the football team to the basketball team already???? Say it isn't so!

I don't believe Fran was ever on the board in the first place, so he can't be off something he was never on. So, I guess that works, right? He's not off. Logical even to Spock.

Unt Recruiting Class Ranked #31 In The Nation
KRAM1 replied to chrisfisher's topic in Mean Green Basketball
A "grounded-in-reality fan base" is all you can find to mention? Have you looked at the attendance and donation figures the last couple of years? Folks here continue to clamour for a "big time athletic program" with big time coaches and facilities yet those same people never seem to open their wallets or come to the games in any respectable numbers. JJ has done a fantastic job and yet attendance still lacks (looks like a HS game on most game days), season ticket sales are no where...NO WHERE...near where they should be and Mean Green Club donations are down from the prior year. Does anyone here really think that sort of "fan base" is what is going to get JJ to stay at UNT? Really...what have you been smoking if you do? I tire of hearing all the whining on this and the football board about being "small time" when it is no secret what level of support the program gets. I know it's not popular on this board, but until the fan base starts acting "big time" and gets that "grounded-in-reality" you mention, you will keep seeing the sort of postings you refer to in your comments. Sorry, but it does get old sometimes. Can we have an adult conversation about this and why it is that folks want to "be big time" but aren't willing to actually help the program move to that level? It seems to me to be past time that one can no longer "let someone else" carry the load year in and year out. Even small donations add up to big dollars when you have an alumni base as large as UNT's. I think a good number of posters here on GMG.com might be shocked to see just how few people actually donate and actually buy season tickets or even single game tickets on a fairly regular basis. It really is sad the level of real support this University and this athletic program gets from its alumni base. Someone on this board referred to me as that "rich guy who lives 8 min. from the campus" when I mentioned support and the lack thereof one time...Priceless, but a good ways from reality. I wish the "rich" part were true as I would then be able to give a considerable amount more to the program and MY university...but, alas I am just a working stiff like most of everyone else here on the board, but I do actually do what I can. What I am asking is for a lot more people to actually do what they can...and only what they can...no more, but no less, to support this program and this great university. The Mean Green needs you NOW. Just think about it, and think about it seriously. Thanks to all who support this great university in the way that they can...whatever that may be and at what ever level. I know of some who cannot, at this time, give any money, but they give a loyt of their time. That counts BIG in my book, and I know (because they have told me) that they will donate dollars when they are able. Know what...they will. Want to be a "Big Time" program, well, here's your chance. Time to make it so.... GO MEAN GREEN! -
In looking at today's (11/12/10) Wall Street Journal there is an early look" at projected NCAA Tournament seedings for March 2011. Our very own NORTH TEXAS is listed as a number 15 seed along with fellow 15 seeds Princeton, Morgan State and wait for it...Sam Houston State. AND, above 16 seeds Maine, Quinnipiac, Bucknell/Jackson State and UNC Asheville/Lipscomb as the two "opening round games". Hows that for an early shout out to the MEAN GREEN? NCAA bound....not too early to be thinking of those tickets! At least the Wall Street Journal doesn't think it's too early. GO MEAN GREEN!

Now that's funny. I know TylerMeanGreen, and trust me...the guy has long and deep ties to UNT. My guess is that the Tigers have a very dull fan board or you would not be such a troll on our board, right? You have to admit, this is a pretty "exciting" fan board as boards go. Buckle your chin strap and have a go.

No sarcasm was intended...it's a fact. Experience, no experience...no guarantee. I noted one case in point as an example after your inane comment about Coach Stephens. Colorado thought they were "minimizing risk" as well...worked out grate, didn't it? How many winning seasons did that "winning and highly experienced D-I coach post at Colorado? Point is, it's a crap shoot...you do the best job you can with the info you have and then you make the decision. Unlike engineering, it can't be "guaranteed" with a formula or a design. Even so, the engineering thought to be perfect is often seen to "fail" for one reason or another. Mack Brown is a pretty experienced D-1 level Coach, right? He seems to be having some challenges in Austin this year. Hawkins was fired, some of the coaches being mentioned as "great" and winners here on the board were fired due to losing records or inappropriate behavior (hmmmmmm, does that inappropriate behavior become any past indicator of potential future problems?). How's your crystal ball for guaranteeing that winning record with the new coach? Probably not any better than mine and neither is nearly as good as the folks who are having to make the decision because this is what they do 365 days a year. Even so, it's pretty much a crap shoot as history tells. You pick your horse, I'll pick my favorite. It's all pure speculatuion at this point. If "your guy" gets it, great, he'll be the HC of the Mean Green, and he'll have my support. I just won't think there is guaranteed anything on the field when it comes to winning just because he may have had success elsewhere. Been around too long for that. That plain enough for ya? Hope so. GO MEAN GREEN!

Oh...missed that...thanks. Did not hear the name of the guy shooting the 3's at half-time. My bad! -
How would you say Hawkins did before he reached Colorado? Come on...even HC experience and a great prior winning record does not guarantee success at your next stop. Fact is..."past performance does not guarantee future performance". Sorry you missed the whole point about the post regarding JJ. Hopefully, I have spelled it out for you a little better now. To answer your question directly, not very good, but I thought that was obvious to everyone by now. Glad I could clear that up for you too.

I like that idea better than I like inane replies like the above. You usually have something to add to the conversation when you post...not this time it seems. Back at ya!

Johnny Jones was a pretty unknown quantity (as far as his experience and ability as a head coach) and an assistant when he came to UNT. He's done a pretty good job as head coach for the BB team I would say. As Yogi Berra might say..."you just never know until you know".
-
I am thinking, even with the injuries, the Mean green get it done and win a close one in Tennessee... UNT - 31 Middle - 28 Let it be so...Go Mean Green!
-
Shoot me know or shoot me later, but I am beginning to like the idea of keeping Coach Canales around as the new HC more and more every day. Got to meet him personally and speak briefly with him last evening at the BB game...yes, he was at the BB game...like I said, I am beginning to like the idea more and more, and as most know, I was not onboard with this idea at first. We'll see how it ends, but for now, I'm good with Coach Canales. Let the harping begin...3...2...1......

That was you getting all those "extra tries" and still not hitting the three? Hey, I am not sure I would have even hit the rim! Glad it was a fellow GMG.com'er giving it a shot...hey, you got the pizza anyway, right? Good job...what's with that way cool hairdo? Really, your form looked pretty good, but just off to the right! -
