  1. Well, my bride and I were there, and I can tell you that you could not hear in the back of the room at all due to the speakers system. I am pretty sure some in the back were not even aware that Coach Mac was speaking. I am not making excuses for anyone, but unless this happened after my bride and I left for the game, I was not at all aware that it was happening. If it is as it has been in the past, some of the biggest offenders would be the AD staff personnel. I recall many Coach radio shows where the staff were talking through out the entire event. Like I said, i don't know and didn't notice, but I can tell you the room was quiet during the radio show period and that Coach mac did not seem upset AT ALL to me during the time I was with him. This is too bad if it happened as reported, but some of the blame has to be placed on the poor sound system...I was in the room and didn't even realize he had started talking until I turned around...and the lack of any "policing" by the AD staff. They might have stationed themselves around the room and monitored the sound and noise levels. One does need to plan for this sort of thing. I can bet that not one person in that room was being "rude" on purpose. Everyone in that room was a Mean Green supporter and fan and was excited to meet and greet Coach mac. In fact, the event was labeled and "sold" as a "Meet & Greet", not a Q&A session, so some may not have even been aware of the Q&A session in the first place...again...planning and execution folks, planning and execution. However, do not think this is in any way the "culture" of the Mean Green. Stuff happens, it did, too bad, but it was a great evening. If you didn't make it, I am sorry you could not be there, but there will be plenty of chances in the future to "meet and greet" Coach McCarney and his wife. If this bothered Coach McCarney for more than 60 seconds, well, he sure didn't show it! Perhaps RV and staff will figure out how to handle this sort of event before the next one...all in all, however, a great evening...and topped off by a Mean green win over UTA! Hard to get much better than last evening for a Mean Green fan! GOOD THINGS ARE HAPPENING FOR THE MEAN GREEN....be part of it!
  2. Just fantastic news for the MEAN GREEN NATION! That should be one heck of a coaching duo for the Mean Green. Buy your tickets now! GO MEAN GREEN! I am a happy camper this afternoon...super news! First decision by the new HC is a GREAT one for the Mean Green nation....WOW..just WOW!
  3. This is SUPER NEWS! The first decision Coach McCarney makes after being named HC and it's a FANTASTIC ONE! I'll bet the players and plenty of fans and alumni will like this news...I hear the players will meet Coach McCarney at 3:00PM...is that correct? WOW...the best news possible for the Mean Green nation. You just have to be smiling BIG right now! I am! GO MEAN GREEN!
  4. This I like! GREAT idea...
  5. Happy Birthday. Keep on being Green!
  6. Who cares...stupid is as stupid does. There are plenty of narrow-minded short-sighted people around. They have been with us always and they will be with us always. These are usually the sort of folks who love to write letters to the editor but never actually get off their rears and volunteer time or money. They just want to complain, and do so loudly about pretty much everything. Sad, sad human beings. Pay them no mind for they know not of what they speak.
  7. My bride and I will be there...but, then again, we are generally there before every home basketball game. I hope everyone who comes for the "meet and greet" will actually stay and attend the basketball game as well. Need a good crowd to cheer for the Mean Green as they take on and beat UTA! GO MRAN GREEN...welcome Coach McCarney!
  8. An ex-girlfriend related this story to you...is she in the corporate office? I really do wonder if you have the information on this 100% correct? I have heard this sort of thing before and when I actually checked it out with both the business and the athletic dept. the story was more than a little different. Don't know about this situation as I don't work at Freebird's or have any inside scoop with the management, but I do know from experience that what is said by an employee is not always the full and actual story. Did you actually check it out with management and with the athletic dept. before you posted the negative comment about UNT? Just wondering.
  9. At the moment I am calling this squad the "Cardiac Kids" as they are doing their best to give me a heart attack. However, I see another win Tuesday. It may not be pretty, it may come late, but it will be another win for the Mean green, and I'll be there to see it...God willing and the Creek Don't Rise! WIN for the Mean Green!!!!
  10. Like I have posted before, the people who are charged with making this decision will (and did) make the very best decision they can. I do not for one second believe that RV was "forced" into this hire. While this choice was not my first choice, I did not get a vote as to the actual hire. So it should be. Those that think RV was "made" or "forced" into this hire may not have the full info on the matter. Even things said in person can be misunderstood and/or framed from a certain perspective. The decision will be based, in the long run, on the way the program goes under Coach McCarney and not on anything else. It's time to get on the McCarney "bandwagon" and welcome him as the new head coach for the Mean Green. It is done...all speculation can now cease, GO MEAN GREEN!
  11. And, so they should. Coach Canales has earned, in my opinion, the right to give the HC position a try. I, for one, think he will be successful, and I wish him well should he get the opportunity to interview for this position and should he decide that it is in his best interests to accept if offered.
  12. Maybe, just maybe if the folks here now lauding Canales had been behind him from the beginning we would all be welcoming Coach Canales as our next HC. Who knows. But, he did the best job of getting a team ready to play that I have seen in a long time. The guy can coach and he has shown what he can do with a team riddled with injuries and emotionally down after a HC change and loss upon loss. The die has been cast in another direction for the Mean Green. We should all with Coach Canales well and thank him BIG TIME for doing what he did with this team and program while its HC. After that, it is time to get behind Coach Mac and make him feel very welcome. Time to stop the bickering over the HC and be united in support of the program and its HC. The Mean green nation simply must do all it can to help Coach Mac be successful. Thanks Coach C and Welcome Coach mac! GO MEAN GREEN!
  13. Really, you are "embarrassed to be an alumni"??? I do think that's a bit of a stretch. There is nothing to be embarrassed about. It's a message board...get over it. If you are an alumni...and if you buy season tickets, are a member of the Alumni Association and give to the University then you know you have absolutely nothing to be embarrassed about...rather you have much to be very proud of in your association with this great university. Many of those yo seem to be embarrassed about or for are actually big supporters of the university and give both of their time and dollars in support. A little ranting about a coaching search on a message board is really nothing to get "embarrassed about" in the scheme of things. Pretty good post, BTW, but the title is a bit over the top. I am very...VERY...proud to be a two time graduate of the UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS, and I am proud each and every day...and I, for one, am never embarrassed by that association. Perhaps the idea that one can be embarrassed by an association with UNT is part of the challenge UNT faces in trying to move forward.
  14. Well, like I've posted several times...we will know when we know and it now looks like WE KNOW! Not my first choice. The guy i wanted did one heck of a job yesterday against a Big XII team. he has these kids believing in themselves and believing that they can and will win. The kids are having fun and it shows. Too bad we all will not get the chance to see how Canales would do as our HC full-time, but, the decision is made, and I'll support Coach Mac as he tries to lead the Mean green back from the wilderness of the SBC. I was yelling "SO JUST HIRE THE GUY" through most of the game yesterday, alas it won't be so. I think this was RV's decision, but that he had some major input from some others who wield some pretty good sized "inputs". So be it..."The King is Dead, Long Live the King". I am now looking forward to the next chapter and a return to winning in the SBC! Go Mean Green. BTW...great job Coach Canales, you did everything and more that was asked of you. The players and fans responded, and you were on your way to winning the community over as well. I hope you'll stay part of the coaching staff, but after this "audition", i think there will be plenty of opportunities for you to be someone's next head coach. I wish you nothing but the very best of success and a great career as a HC going forward. You have earned my respect and I suspect the respect of many more as well. Fair skies and following winds, Coach. My hat is off to you and you have my sincerest thanks for a job well done! GO MEAN GREEN!
  15. Welcome to the Mean Green Nation, Coach Mac. I can't wait for you to show us why RV and Company felt you ewere the best choice for the job of bringing the Mean Green back to #1 in the SBC. Welcome to Denton and welcome to the Mean Green.

    Leach

And, just how am I limiting anything? The fact is Leach is not going to be the HC. Neither is Bob Stoops or Urban Meyer. Did not anywhere indicate that we "could not " hire Mike Leach, I said simply that UNT was NOT going to hire Leach. It's unrealistic to keep talking about Leach as the next HC. Sorry they aren't going to hire "your guy", they probably won't hire mine either, but that, in no way limits what UNT can and will do. Don't get your panties in a wad and go off after misunderstanding my post. It's OK if you want Leach, it just isn't going to happen. That's all.
  17. TEXAS!!!!!! GO MEAN GREEN...see you at the game!
  18. You would think the Cowboys defense could learn some of those fundamentals as well and not have allowed the game to get off to such a bad start. Just think...one stop and that fumble means nothing. I know, Rudy, it was the last thing that happened to have the ending result, just like a kid who misses a field goal at the end of a game to take a loss, but it was not the reason the Cowboys lost. You are so correct about fundamentals...I have seen a surprising lack of fundamentals from another team much closer to my heart on defense this year as well...and one that has an experienced D1 coach at the helm. Sad how that works sometimes to help a team lose a game when the offense has scored plenty of points to have been able to win...just one stop on defense...just one. Oh, for the lack of a stop the game was lost.....

    Leach

I do not understand why comments about Leach and UNT keep appearing on this board. Leach is not going to be the next head coach of the Mean Green. To those who are big Leach supporters, I am sorry, but it is not going to happen. It's probably time to move along on this one. Yes, some Tech fans disgruntled with the Leach firing claim they would come to the games. I am fine with that, but UNT needs to build UNT fans, not Tech fans who will return to Tech as soon as the wins come...seems to me that Tech is bowl eligible this season already. It is just not realistic to think that Leach would be the next HC of the Mean Green. You know, UNT could hire Bob Stoops and he'd probably sell some tickets too and UNT would be the talk of the nation, but that's not going to happen either. Even though some may want Stoops to be run out of Norman after the Cowboys beat them this evening in Stillwater! Just sayin....OK, just hoping.....
  20. This just points out the greatness of college football...you just never really know what will happen when two teams take the field. Anyone who thought Nevada would be a pushover for Boise St. just hasn't been following college football very closely. Let's face it, Nevada saw this as the biggest game in school history and they came out and played like it was a meaningful game for them. They have a solid team and a very good QB. If you are a TCU fan you have to like this outcome, but it will give folks like Ohio States president even more fodder for the press in an "I told you so" comment. Maybe he'll be smarter this time and keep his mouth shut. Anyway, this is a prime example of why college football is so much fun to watch....hero or heart breaker....Now, Mean Green...go get K St. GO MEAN GREEN!
  21. On the flip side...I would love for UNT to be 7-5 and playing for the conference crown. You have to give credit where credit is due...SMU has pulled off a nice turn around in fortunes recently. EXACTLY what UNT is looking to do. Now, since SMU feels better about their prospects, do you think they will actually schedule UNT?????
  22. Let he who has never fumbled cast the first stone! Man, I feel for the guy. Great catch and great run, but terrible result. I wonder if it would have mattered if the defense could have made a stop? Yep, Williams may well be remembered for this fumble, but it certainly did not cause the game to be lost. It just added to the mistakes made by the Cowboys in allowing NO to get so far ahead in the first quarter. Just think...one stop and this fumble would not have mattered. No, not taking up for Roy, he's a professional and should have held on to that ball and sealed the win, but the goat he might be, but the lack of any defense when it mattered the most had a decent part to play in the loss as well. heck, I am just pleased that the Cowboys made a game out of it after the way it started. I'm thinking this Garrett kid needs to get the job, have an off-season and pre-season to get his system in place and then see what happens next year. This season is a "goner" for the "Boys anyway...except for that hight draft pick.
  23. Who cares?
  24. Great...I feel better now...thanks, drex...I had to know you would know the answer. I didn't think my mind had gone completely whack-o as yet!
  25. Really? I would have sworn that Joe was there while Otis Mitchell was still coaching. I had classes with Joe Greene and I know Otis Mitchell was coaching for some of the years I attended UNT as an undergrad. I may be showing some "stinking thinking" here, but would swear Joe played under Otis Mitchell. Anyone recall what year Otis Mitchell retired? I would think Joe played at least a couple of years for Otis...SUMG, help me out here!
