How anyone really knows any of this is beyond my scope of imagination. Seems to me that if you get most of your facts from a message board or from "the alumni and fans I talk to", that you might just have a bit of a skew in your research. Just like all those here who "knew" this coach or that coach was or was not interviewed, was or was not contacted, was or was not interested, it was RV's decision, it was not RV's decision, Canales is going, Canales is staying and on and on. Great fun for message board posts and speculation, but hardly the actual facts of the matter. But, it is fun to see the passion with which some folks either love or hate Leach. If anything, the guy can ignite the passions of people...one way or the other. It really matters not in the grand scheme of things if you are a Mean Green fan other than it's interesting to chat about. The Mean Green took TTech down in BB this year and I am looking forward to the possibility of doing the same thing in football one of these days under Coach McCarney. That's the HC I care the most about these days... GO MEAN GREEN!

My best guess...NONE! You'll just order tickets and pick your seat location when you decide if you want to purchase tickets and how many. Do it or don't do, you make the call. You have all the time you need to make your decision.
-
If they did charge for the Lakewood showing and make a big deal out of it with drinks, food, coaches, staff, etc. they might just be able to raise a few $$$$ and raise a little awareness of the program as well. Seems like a decent idea to me. I really wonder why not?

Point was made earlier...UNT and its alumni and fans need to do something about the things they can control and not worry about those things they cannot control. "Get your own house in order and you won't be worrying about someone else's house" is what the Mean Green faithful should be concerned with right now. The Mean Green made a major step toward getting its football house in order just this week, so now it's time the fans and alums do all they can as well. GO MEAN GREEN! Good things are happening at UNT these days!

Do you mean if only they cared more about their reputations than money? Seems to me they do care less about their reputations than they do about money. If they didn't perhaps they would have thought twice about getting themselves in the situation they did where they felt the need to sue? Sometimes that quick to blow temper can get you in a bit of trouble. If only their Moms had taught them to count to 10 slowly before they react in anger???? Mothers can be right, you know. Just think if Tiger had thought with his brain instead of that other part of his anatomy he might still be married to that smokin' hot wife he had, still have his game, contact with his kids anytime and his reputation. Gee, imagine that? Silly fella that Tiger Woods.

And The World Cup Goes To...
KRAM1 replied to UNTflyer's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Really...Russia and Qatar?????? FIFA has hit a new low...or maybe a new high in bribes! I think attendance will be OK for the Russian games owing the proximity to Europe, but Qatar???? Qatar, really? Just tell me what all those fans who love to party will be doing in Qatar between games, and how nice that heat will be...OK, so they A/C open air stadiums...yea, right. How's that work with the climate change loonies? What about all the extra carbon emissions to produce the extra power? Oh, wait...they will use solar and wind power perhaps...or import a ton of water to make an artificial water wheel power plant. Those guys are so creative! This decision by FIFA really blows. Russia and Qatar....almost laughable if it were not so...well, stupid! -
Folks, my take on this is that it is not confusing at all. It is a $100 "deposit". The $100 is not the price of the ticket package...it is just what it says...a "deposit". If you have had four and want four...AND want to make a deposit that would be $400. There is no REQUIREMENT that you make a deposit for next season. It is just a good way to get some of the costs allocated now and for the department to have some idea of what they are working with. And, maybe to add to your point totals for seat placement/selection in the new stadium. Unfortunately, I do not see the stadium selling out with season ticket holders, so there should be plenty of time to select seats...with or without friends and in the amount you decide you want AFTER the full price is announced. So, please don't panic over this or assume it is some sinister plot by the athletic dept. to lock folks in and then raise ticket prices out the roof. I would even imagine that if you put a deposit down on 4 and then only needed two that the folks in the ticket office would allow you to use the $$$$ you deposited on the tickets you do intend to purchase (certainly confirm this before you try it! Ha!). This is a very common practice with many schools as they work to budget and plan. Just another indication that UNT is moving in the right direction as it grows and develops its programs. Yes, good things are happening at UNT, and this move indicates to me a good bit of planning on the part of the athletic department.

Article did not mention the connection between Leach and Trump...but seems to be a match-up made in heaven to me! Ha!
-
Interesting to read today that Leach would like to be Miami's next head coach. Even more interesting that Miami has said no coach with baggage need apply. Leach calls it a "perfect fit" and it seems Donald Trump is in his corner with this. But a "Miami Trustee told the "Miami Herald" that the school will not hire any coach with any baggage, a reference to Leach, Jim Leavitt and Butch Davis." Perhaps Leach might want to re-consider suing every one in sight if he wants to get back into being a head coach anytime soon. Priceless...the Pirate is living in Key West and wants to be the HC of one of one of the high profile "outlaw" programs in recent NCAA history. You just can't make this stuff up!
-
Nope...to get a better idea of season ticket renewals and numbers of new season ticket holders, to hopefully gain new Mean green Club members and to allow current season ticket holders (and others for that matter) to up their number of Mean Green Priority Points (is that what they call them?) to improve their seat selection priority. I see no "sinister plot" here by the Athletic Dept. to somehow gauge their ability to raise season ticket prices a great deal. We have been told all along that ticket prices will be higher in the new stadium, but they are not looking to jack prices up significantly. It would do the Mean Green and our new HC a great good if people would, in fact place deposits now for next year's seats. Our new HC has been charged with bringing new season ticket holders to the table, retaining current season ticket holders and helping to sell Club Level and Suite packages. It's always nice to know what base you have to work with before heading out to sell a program if you are a new HC or member of the new HC's staff. Seems a very smart move on the part of the staff with this offer. Besides, if you are going to buy tickets for next season, why not up your points total a bit by placing a deposit on your seats now?

Texas State Changing Direction On Coach Search?
KRAM1 replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
Only if you were alreday drinking too much wine or beer in the Mean Green Room. -
Good point. Sort of like we will never be a champagne program as long as the support adds up to a beer program. Not that I don't like beer, mind you, but it's a champagne program I would like to see for UNT. If we want it, it's time to step up and help UNT get to that level. The facilities are getting there fast, now UNT needs its fan base and donor base to grow BIG TIME!

The point was not hidden. I am surprised you had to ask...students choose what to do with the money they have and most are not the "poor" students they are often made out to be. Even those working their way through get to make choices, and a good few choose items that one can not actually afford if living at/below the poverty line...such as expensive DROID and APPLE phones hooked up to the internet and loaded with apps, etc. Not trying to generalize, just trying to point out the "poor college student" line is more than a bit overused. Just like the line that one can't attend a basketball game because they are already studying for finals....like that 2 1/2 hour break is going to make or break the whole semester grade. Right...it's all about choices folks. No value judgement placed, just trying to put a nail in one of the lame tired excuses we tend to hear on a fairly regular basis as most of us have "been there/done that". Didn't think of Option #2 you state, but do think it has some merit. Want to discuss? Or, did I miss your point?
-
You missed the point entirely.
-
OK, nice catch...what is that darn thing called where the Dallas Mavericks and Stars play????? Talk about "not learning", I think I made this mistake in a post some time ago......
-
Is that in writing somewhere? If true, I hope so. I will probably get "killed" for this, but that "poor student/poor grad student" line is getting pretty old. Most of "us grads" recall our student days as well, and we do know that students make decisions as to where to spend their time and their money just like everyone else. If there were a high enough priority on attending games, students would find they have both the time and the money to attend. It's all a matter of priority. And, before you do "start the killing of the messenger", I worked part-time and full-time jobs the entire time I was an undergrad at UNT for my money and all the way through all my graduate programs. I would like to know the actual percentage of undergrad students at UNT who get no support from their parents, no scholarship money, etc. The idea of the "poor and destitute" college student is a myth for the majority I would certainly imagine. I considered myself "poor" as an undergrad and grad student simply because I couldn't afford everything I WANTED...underscore "wanted"...but I certainly found the funds to party, join a frat, attend games, date some great co-eds (and some as it turned out...not-so-great) and generally have a good experience at UNT and during grad school. Choices, folks, choices...and all the while working outside of school the whole time. Hard to plead poverty while one is texting away on a DROID phone hooked up to the Internet, etc., etc. I am not dissing anyone here, as there are definitely some UNT students getting by on little to nothing outside of what it costs to attend. However, my guess, they make up a minority of enrolled students. Anyone have any real data on this as I am going simply from observation and personal experience....and, observation and personal experience can certainly be deceiving at times.

Cam Newton Ruling In
KRAM1 replied to UNTflyer's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
No surprise at all. Anyone else think the decision has a lot to do with it being Auburn's QB rather than say, UNT's????? -
To state the obvious...if students want to sit elsewhere, they are free to buy tickets. I have this theory...and it is shared by others as well...that when something is "free", there is often little value associated with it. I wonder if students had to actually buy tickets (a discounted price, of course) if they would show up in larger numbers? Case in point, students at OSU must buy football tickets and they are not that inexpensive. Students camp out to be sure and get to purchase tickets. OK, I am not saying that UNT is at this point as yet, but if students had to purchase (yes, in addition to the fees already paid) would they attach more value to actually going to the games? During my student time at OSU, I was required to purchase football, basketball, wrestling, baseball, etc. tickets and I had to line up at a certain tiome to be able to purchase. And, my tuition and fees included an athletic fee as well. Again, not saying I am for or against this, but just wondering if more "value" by the students would be placed on the games, and if more students would find the time to attend and support their fellow students? I think UNT is seeing a bigger student turnout these days, and it does seem to be growing, but it is still painfully small for a 37,000+ student body. As for the alums and community folks...some advertisements, promotions and community "meet and greets" would go a long way in helping. Make it an event...give it some added value...market to the clubs and associations and Chamber of Commerce groups, make a charity fundraiser out of a game and get the community involved, have some innovative half-time events (hey, i do like that chicken catch...must keep that one), get the pee wee sports organizations involved, expand the Little Mean green Club into an actual "must join" group. The best thing would be if our alumni would simply support their university in greater numbers. Are you aware that there are just over 8,000 members in the UNT Alumni Association while the University graduates almost that many each and every year? And, were you aware that there are only about 300 or so members in the Mean Green Club? Anyway...any thoughts on that "value" thing? It's just for discussion...I am not advocating for it one way or the other.
-
Sorry...no! At one time the "student section" was the middle sections across from the team benches. UNT still does not get a big enough student turnout to warrant "better" seats, and being right behind the opposing team's bench is GREAT! Too many fans and alums have been sitting in those seats...and paying the price, for too many years to "run them out" and potentially "run them off" so students may or may not can show up and sit in the premium seats. I love the fact that more students seem to be turning out for the games this season. JJ and Company has certainly earned the right by their play to have the support of their fellow students, but the PIT CREW section was in no way full last evening. Once there is an overflow of students demanding seats we can start considering a bigger section. Don't think it couldn't happen. I for one, would be just fine if it did...but, still not the first ten rows completely around the Pit.

Cardiac Kids! I may not live through this season if these late min. wins keep happening. I thought UNT was really on a roll early and was going to cruise to this win. Man, great to beat the "locals" to earn some "braggin' rights" in the neighborhood. Now if only SMU and TCU would play the Mean Green! GREAT things are happening for the Mean Green!

Well, my bride just informs me that we have house guests coming Thursday evening for the night, and we cannot attend the Grambling game Thursday as a result...so, anyone need two tickets? You can have mine if we can figure out how to get them to you...PM me and let me know. SEC 120, ROW M, Seats 9&10...good seats on the aisle...sure don't want them to go to waste!

Thanks, Rudy...super!

OK, so I talking to a UTA AD Staffer who is a UNT grad and used to work for the UNT AD. He tells me that next year's game with UTA will be played at American Airlines Arena as part of a three-game showcase! How cool is that? OK, I can hear the "usual suspects" complain about having to go to Dallas, but it could be a great atmosphere, and maybe on a weekend if there will be a three-game event set up including SMU. Too bad it won't be as a tournament with UTA, SMU and UNT, etc. The UTA staffer told me they have tried to schedule TCU and SMU regularly as well, with about as much luck as we have had.... Could be a great day to be a college basketball fan...and for some of you...you won't even have to cross the lake to get to a game. Imagine that! I hope this takes place and the place is packed. Of course the Mean Green will once again defeat UTA...as it should be! GO MEAN GREEN!

I agree with this 100%. Coach McCarney all but said so last evening. I think we saw the best of Coach DeLoach during his first stint at UNT. I never witnessed the same Coach this time around and his defense never played up to expectations. The guy can coach...and he is definitely a good guy...if he wants to remain in coaching he needs a fresh start elsewhere...it would be good for him and great for UNT. I often got the impression that Coach DeLoach came back here to "retire" after getting a couple of more years in the Texas retirement system. I wish Coach DeLoach all the best, and I thank him for his time with UNT, but it is time. GO MEAN GREEN!

One of the good things I heard last evening from Coach McCarney was that our defense will definitely be improved...and it will more than likely be led by a new defensive coordinator. I hope one that has the enthusiasm of both Coach Canales and Coach McCarney...and one that will actually help build the team through recruiting. OC's and DC's not recruiting on the road may work for the UT's and OU's of the world, but not for UNT. UNT needs "all hands on deck" when it comes to rebuilding this program. I look forward to a new DC for next season and a new attitude on defense. UNT has the players that can make this happen, they just need a coach to share their enthusiasm and effort...and to coach them. GO MEAN GREEN!
