Congresswoman Shot In Az
KRAM1 replied to NT03's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Sorry to see this thread sink to such a level when the point should be to look at the tragedy of what has happened and to hope and pray that those injured will survive and that the families of those slain will find some comfort. Idiots that do this sort of thing usually do not belong to any recognized main stream political party, and to make it out to be so is just not helpful or appropriate. What we should all be considering is what has led this great nation of ours to the point where our elected officials cannot openly and freely meet with the constituents without fear of some deranged idiot shotting up the place. I can all but guarantee you that this guy was known by someone to be loony and a danger to society, but nothing could be done or was done for some reason. One has to wonder what this will do to the ability of these elected representatives to meet in public with those they represent? I care not what party or what views this Congresswoman holds in this case, and it should not matter to any other person. We have six people dead including a federal judge and a nine year old little girl with her life fully in front of her and a congresswoman shot through the brain trying to hold on in the hospital. Let us all stop and pray or at least stop and think about how we as a great nation came to this! May God help and comfort all those who are suffering because of this tragic series of events. -
Cooper Jones is 6' 5". I like the fact that he has confidence in his abilities to move "up", but if Cooper thinks D1 college ball is anything like Texas 2A ball he is in for a rude awakening. Very pleased to see this commit for the Mean Green. Sounds like the kid is excited to be part of the Mean green. Welcome Cooper. Also good that he is fairly local as his parents, grandparents, friends, etc. can come see him play...more rears in the seats. YIPPEE!!!! Go Mean Green!

I Figured You Guys Would Get A Kick Out Of This
KRAM1 replied to Yellow Snow's topic in Mean Green Football
I can see that...good point. -
OK, nice line-up but ZERO games at home in Denton. The only "home game" is in Frisco! I'll try to make some of these, but I would have enjoyed at least one actual home game. Again, great line-up.

I Figured You Guys Would Get A Kick Out Of This
KRAM1 replied to Yellow Snow's topic in Mean Green Football
Interesting that they are in Columbus, Ohio when TCU beat Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl, but i do "get" the jab at the OSU prez. I wonder how long they would be up if they were in Wisconsin? Might not last long in Columbus either, but this is PRICELESS! Really something that someone has that much cash that can be used this way...where is that guy when UNT needs a "sugar daddy"???? -
Don't like helmet stickers on college helmets...they just look HS to me. I have no problems with them being on HS helmets.

Wow...I actually agree with you on this. In fact, the one day that brings in the most dollars and commitments to the Harvard and Yale endowments and programs happens to be the day of the Harvard-Yale football game every year...or so it is reported. Imagine that. I know several TCU grads and none of them payed the "full freight" of the posted tuition. All had scholarships and/or grants of some sort or another that helped. I am sure some do pay the full cost, but as Green Mean says many do not....same goes for most private schools such as Yale, Harvard, SMU, Austin College, Trinity, Southwestern, etc., etc. Doesn't mean that even then the cost is not more than UNT's but it is often not near the "posted rate".
-
WOW...you could have fooled me from what I saw looking on over the TV. Was that actual "rears in the seats" or total paid attendance? I can not image that there was ever, at any point in the game, over 38,000 "rears in the seats". Maybe they all stayed outside and tailgated instead of actually entering the stadium.

Denton Record Chronicle Ad That Runs 6 Days A Week.
KRAM1 replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't know the reason for Rick's post...don't know if he's happy or not about it, but I like seeing the ads in the papers. It is about time the department starting doing some actual advertising. Now, as SUMG pointed out and as we could all argue one way or the other, are these ads the greatest ever? Probably not. Are they written and produced the best possible way? Probably not, but it's a step. I have been seeing the ads for some time and simply focused on the "good news" that UNT was actually advertising. The DRC may not be "UNT friendly" in every article or opinion piece it writes, but it does give us the very best coverage of UNT of any outlet in the Metroplex from an academic and athletic standpoint. If all of us who do subscribe to the DRC would take it upon ourselves to write to the paper and both thank them for the coverage and point out "professionally" where they might be missing the boat in a few areas, it might actually do some good. I know that constant complaining rarely gets much done, and at times it sets up just the opposite reaction from the one those complaining the most want to see happen. So, I'll start and get the ball rolling with a note. Anyone else...remember...we might just be able to catch a few extra flies with some honey added to the stick! It's worth a try. I do know that people check to see what type of support letter writers and those offering their "opinions" give before they decide how to respond. This goes for lots of businesses and entities, not just newspapers. So, be sure and let the DRC know that you are a subscriber within your note. It's worth a shot and only costs a 44 cent stamp, the cost of an envelope and a sheet of paper...plus a very small amount of time. Worth a shot. -
God, please keep Congress' nose out of something it does not belong in. Amen! Congress has many more pressing items to be dealing with than something it has no business getting involved with at all. Perhaps one could use the "Interstate Commerce Clause" or the ant-trust statutes as Flyer mentions which they pull out of their rear ends from time of time, and I wouldn't put it past them to somehow use the RICO statutes to somehow accuse the NCAA and BCS of some sort of criminal enterprise, but at the end of the day, this is a matter that Congress needs to keep their noses out of...just my opinion. The less government, the better...smaller government is always better government in my opinion. Go do something about the economy, the deficit, the war in Afghanistan and Iraq (yes, Iraq is still in a state of war and we still have troops in Iraq), immigration, taxes, etc., etc. The system will change...yes it will in time...but it will change for economic reasons once all the parties figure out how it is really in their best interests to do so. I doubt that even the BCS people think the BCS system is in any way the long term solution. Figure out a way to make it more profitable to change the BCS system to a playoff and it will change fast. Until then...Congress, keep your nose out of it and go do something much more important.

Never is an awfully long time.

In case you were not aware, the then Pres. B had a good bit of input regarding candidates for this hire. There were other agendas at work other than simply hiring the best possible candidate. And, that will be all I will say about this matter.

EXCELLENT...+1 for you, Sir!

Yep...attendance looked bad. That is a shame. I guess neither school "travels well". How can a school have a team in a bowl and get that small of a crowd? I wonder what it says about the draw for the game locally and on each school's campus? Seems it doesn't say much. I wonder about the future of this bowl. Doesn't help get the SBC any new Bowl tie-ins that's for certain.

I met Coach Lama at a football function on the AD facility deck this last fall. Yes, the tennis coach was attending a football related function. Then i saw him nest with his entire family at a Mean green football game and have seen him this season at the basketball games. This guy is not only an excellent tennis coach and has completely turned around the tennis program, but HE GETS IT! My wife and I will be attending our first Mean Green tennis matches together this season as a result of our meeting Coach lama and spending a bit of time talking to him. I am not much of a tennis fan, but I am a UNT fan and a BIG fan of those coaches and programs who "get it" regarding the overall program. We are actually looking forward to attending and seeing the way the team has become one of the area's very best. Thanks Coach...appreciate you and your "vision". GO MEAN GREEN!

Stress can be a terrible thing.

I'd bet on Leppo, if healthy, at this point in the year. After spring ball and summer sessions, we should discuss anew perhaps. OK, footballmommy, SEC...what's that? You would think they could beat a bunch of Big Ten Schools???? Oh, wait...pretty much did. Care to go ahead and tell us which SEC school? One could argue that the SEC is the best conference in the land at the moment. Other than the SBC, of course! -made me do it!

I thought Buddy Garrity's kid was female???? -
And he recently had knee replacement surgery. The guy was a warrior!

Well, I would say "yes". Things have changed around campus for the better since you left in '98. How much better would be the question. And, to that i would say "some", but not nearly enough. Now, I am not on campus every day, but my wife still works on campus, so I get some info on a regular basis and I am personally on campus somewhere almost every week for meetings, games or to simply check out the stadium construction, etc. You are not the only one who still desires the athletic dept. and the university in general to be more pro-active regarding student turnout for all its athletic, academic and arts/music events. Come on back. It's time to see all the new construction and "stuff" that has been added since you left in '98. Besides, every grad needs to see that brand new beautiful stadium being built. If nothing else will do it, seeing that beauty come out of the ground will get you excited about UNT football in 2011! WELCOME HOME. BTW...are you a member of the Alumni Association and/or the Mean green Club? If so, many thanks...if not, I'd love to chat with you...PM would work. GO MEAN GREEN!

You have a valid point...while not PC, it is something that needs to be dealt with for the guy to make a long-time "go" out of this opportunity. Studies have shown that just providing a job is not the key to long-term success for people who are homeless due to drug and/or alcohol addiction. I hope and pray that this is the break this guy needed to get his life turned around and heading in a positive direction. I do believe that the Cavs will do more than just give this guy a job and money and send him on his way to fend for himself. My guess is that this will include some much required/needed rehab sessions/work/monitoring as well. Congrats to the guy...seems like he really does have some talent.

Money, Money, Money
KRAM1 replied to UNT90's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
The "vaccine" link to autism had been debunked some time ago. But, some folks still cling to the idea that there is a link to vaccines which, as everyone now knows, was based on fraudulent research. Really a shame as parents of these kids cling to any studies and any new research that seem to "answer" any such question regarding the condition. These parents are some of the most vocal and energized in trying to find reasons and potential cures for autism. It is a shame and a crime when this stuff happens. It harms all the legitimate research that is done, and should not be tolerated. My wife is a behavior analyst and very active in the Association of Behavior Analysts. One of the most active sub-groups of this organization is composed of researchers, practitioners and parents deeply involved in the study of and in the work with children with autism. There is much good work being done in this field...unfortunately this fraud is not to be included. -
Defensive Tackle That Unt Is Looking At...
