  1. New Tax Law applies to 2018 taxes, so we shall see. Filing this year is same as last year. And, here's hoping ALL monies do go to scholarships.
  2. And, people were always moaning about "where are the meetings if it is a club". The name being "Mean Green Club" was misleading as it WAS a fundraising arm, not a club that held meetings, etc. For me, I like the new name as I am all about raising scholarship funds for deserving students at UNT...be they athletes or not. I want my donation dollars going to scholarships, so for me...I am good, and would proudly display a decal, polo, etc. supporting the Mean Green Scholarship Fund name/logo. Plus, perhaps the name has something to do with the new tax laws regarding "donations" tied to tickets, seat locations, etc. We shall see.
  3. YES SIR! And, a nice segment on Channel five at 10pm recently discussing the program, the Grammy nominations and wins and how hard the place is to get into these days.

    Wow

Not your father's old Mean Green any longer...#NewDenton!
  5. Lot of that has been going on. The "per seat" donation is really the only fair way to do this thing and I mentioned that when Apogee was first opened. Told them they were just delaying the inevitable and "kicking the can" down the road for future complaints. Also told them, why should a guy buying one ticket have to pay the same as the guy buying eight? Not very fair in my opinion and I mentioned that...to no avail. Plus, the "other" schools I am aware of that have this sort of thing have been doing the "per seat" thing from the beginning. Now, that is not to say that everyone "sharing" seat locations and buying in "bulk" were trying to "game the system", but it did work out that way for the athletic department and revenue folks none the less. Some folks buying multiple tickets were simply wanting to make sure their "group" got to sit together. Problem was that some of these folks never joined the Mean Green Club or joined at minimum levels because only one donation was required for their multiple seats....again hurting revenues. Cut it any way you like, but the "unfairness" was established the second the folks in athletics decided to not have a per seat requirement. That chicken has now come home to roost, and some folks have hard feelings about it as was predicted. Understandable. No one wants to "pay more", but that is today's reality in the "arms race" that is college football. Everyone now has to have tricked up locker rooms, indoor practice facilities, multiple sets of uniforms, new stadiums, better nutritional opportunities, expanded weight rooms, better travel conditions, etc., etc. This all costs money, and since the state cannot pay for most of this stuff, it falls to the "consumers" of the product. You want "nice things"? You have to pay for nice things. You want better coaches? You have to pay to get better coaches. You want winning football? You have to pay for winning football and that costs more and more and more money each and every year. Simply the reality of college football these days (and lots of other things as well it seems). This is hitting my pocketbook as well, so I am right there with everyone else. But, I choose to do this. No one is twisting my arm or forcing anything on me. It is all about choices and I choose the Mean Green. I hope the vast majority of our fan base feels the same way and stays with the Mean Green, but it is a choice. People get to make that choice for themselves as this all comes from limited resources (well, limited for most of us I guess). The changes have been implemented and there is not going to be any turning back from them, so decision time I suppose for all of us. Me? I will just pony up, cut somewhere else if need be, and enjoy supporting the Mean Green at Apogee as long as the good Lord allows!
  6. I was offered no discount as a season ticket holder when I purchased mine.
  7. Anyone here ever been to Haiti? No, I have not, but everything I read and see reflects a very poor and "troubled" nation void of any real leadership and having leaders for years that did nothing for their people, but rather line their own pockets. Sean Penn aside, this place is a shambles and was before the hurricane. Now, calling it a "shi...hole" is out of line, if in fact that is what happened, but the place reeks of corruption, extreme poverty and any real leadership focused on fixing the real life day to day challenges met by its citizens. a great many of its citizens depend upon the aid of nations such as the United States to even be able to survive. That does not say a lot of good things about the nation's leadership. Haiti needs a real leader to step forward to say..."enough is enough", and to focus on the real needs of its citizens. There are enough beautiful sights and history in that nation to reap plenty of benefits from tourism. Incentives could be provided for foreign investment to create industry and jobs that would employ local citizens and provide a much higher wage than currently earned, etc., etc. Heck, they could even turn it into a gambling mecca like Las Vegas or something similar. Haiti has ports deep enough for container ships and tankers and cruise liners. There is nothing, except past history and corruption and a reliance on foreign aid, that says Haiti cannot become a self-sustain decent economic engine in the Caribbean. The ONLY thing holding Haiti back is Haiti itself. But, of course the same can be said for many cities in the United States and several other nations around the world.
  8. AJ out. Doesn't help matters with a fairly short bench anyway. Let's go Mean Green!
  9. well...THAT explains it. I had wondered why A J just did not seem to be the A J of last year through the early part of the season. I figured it was just "adjusting" to a new system and coaching staff and teammates. Nope, the kid is injured and has been trying to "play through the pain". Wow, I had no idea. Top be a basketball player and have a wrist injury to your shooting and dribbling hand has got to be super tough. So sorry to hear of this and hope he can heal soon. Hopefully, playing with it does not create even more challenges. His team needs him, but they need a health AJ. All the best to AJ as he works through this injury. He's a warrior, he will get through it, but, darn, what a shame of the kid. Bummer. Get well, AJ!!!
  10. Students have a much lower price. They will be good to go. What level do you think is OK alumni and fans for full tournament access if $125.00 is too high? One can certainly call the UNT Ticket Office for a better read on the access thing between ticket levels. Only difference might be seating location...like I said, not 100% certain on that at this point.
  11. Just some head's up info regarding this year's CUSA Basketball Tournament. As everyone is pretty much aware, the tournament will be help in Frisco at the Star this year. That is fantastic news for UNT fans for certain, but, it does come with some caveats. The biggest being, that if we want the tournament to remain local, UNT needs to show up BIG TIME! That means in both rears in the seats and in ticket sales. As I understand it, our ticket "guarantee" is around $38,000.00. Looks like a big number, but it is definitely doable for UNT fans...and then some. Some specifics: Tournament Dates: March 7-10, 2018 Location: Ford Center at the Star in Frisco Tickets: ALL general admission...and, at this point two levels...general seating $125.00 and Premium seating $180.00 per ticket. If you look at the UNT Ticket Office site on Ticketmaster you can see the court configuration. There will be two courts at the Star turned perpendicular to the current seating for football. The $125.00 tickets appear to be in the "football" seating area while the premium are courtside. Looks as if only one side of each court will have seating (all this from a view of the Ticketmaster site). I have been told that the premium tickets will allow one to watch any game at any time and all games throughout the tournament. This would include both men's and women's games. The $125.00 will not allow this all-access, and will be more "game specific". I have no clue if that is exactly true nor how the "game specific" would work. Just passing on info as I have it at this point in time. PLEASE FOLKS...if you are looking to purchase tickets to the CUSA Tournament, it is important that you purchase through the UNT site IF we want to try to keep this tournament in Frisco for a few years to come. I believe the current contract is for two years only at the Star. With UNT's partnership with the Cowboys and with UNT pretty much hosting these games along with The Star and CUSA, it would be great to see UNT fans come out in big numbers to support the tournament and both its men's and women's teams. If anyone has any additional or updated info, please post it here as a central CUSA BB Tournament Thread. Might help everyone to just have a central place for "one-stop CUSA shopping". And, yes, I ordered my two Premium level CUSA tickets today on-line through the UNT ticket site on Ticketmaster. Easy...no problems at all. Hope to see a big MEAN GREEN turnout at this year's tournament. Would help to get some high seeds of course. So, come on men, come on ladies!!!
  12. Agree. But, one nice thing I saw was that they handled the zone much better than they did against Rice. Of course, it does helps when the threes are falling. On a side note...I also thought it was great that Coach McCasland was in attendance last night with his entire family. In addition, spotted a couple of the men's team players watching the ladies as well. I love seeing this support from other programs and other student-athletes for their fellow Mean Green programs and athletes. Coach McCasland also stayed to congratulate the ladies as they left the court after the win! Very nice!
  13. There is a new attitude and a new regime in place from top to bottom and folks across departments are “cooperating and playing nice” with each other. And, there is a joint effort going to try to increase attendance at both football and basketball games. So, with that in mind, I suggest some emails and phone calls to the Athletic Director, the Dean of the Music School, the VP for Advancement and President Smatresk suggesting that the band could, but is not currently, an asset for either spirit or attendance at games. And, that one thinks that if the band once again became a spirit booster and entertaining at games that both attendance and donations to both the School of Music and Athletics would increase. These calls and/or emails should, of course be professional and reasoned. And, constructive ideas should be presented. Think about your correspondence as if you were on the receiving end, not the sending. What would you like to see? A positive constructive piece or just a bunch of complaining? Which do you think might get serious consideration? And, send the same email, one, to all parties concerned so each will see who has received the email and suggestions. If they feel, like many of us do, that change is needed and that the band could indeed help attendance and donations, I would bet changes would definitely be made because the emphasis for that change would be coming from “above”. Just a suggestion.
  14. Also...La Tech never an easy away game. First half pretty much sealed it, but sure like how they fought to get back in it. Agree with GrandGreen, we need Holmes to be “on” to win these road games. Still fun to watch Jalie’s Youngsters get better and better. Certainly will have ups and downs, but I am guessing more ups for this program than downs these days.
  15. Update... Working with Student Affairs (and getting great cooperation) to have the parking meters along Highland St. not monitored by the Campus Police for the game. That would certainly help. I am VERY hopeful that, with the help of Student Affairs, we can pull this off.
  16. Sure..and probably shouldn't have played those 12 regular season games either. You know...might have gotten hurt. Nothing says teammate like sitting out because "I might get hurt" and the rest of you guys don't matter. Just show me the money. Looks like there is an "I" in team after all.
  17. Just a tad over the top are you? 😂😂. Too funny. So, you are saying you think the guy writing this is a Republican or conservative? I was just stating the obvious. If you don’t think the guy is delusional in this, you really have been drinking the look-aid. Take off your hate tinted glasses and see this nut case for what he is....delusional. Didn’t call all Dems delusional like your tirade against all conservatives. Get a life man, lots of fun to be had.
  18. Obviously...guy is void of anything close to reality. I am going to go way way out on a limb here and guess the guy is a Democrat. 😂😂
  19. I’m going up for this one. Should be fun. I think the Mean Green have a shot, but will need to be at the top of their game.
  20. Loved this, but until we beat SMU I am not about to crow too loud. Just enjoying the fact that we beat LaTech and now LaTech is handing SMU a butt whippin’. Priceless!
  21. This! Way way too early to say one way or the other. Remember, you did not get “full” tax credit anyway this year. I think 80% was countable. Just re-classify and create new “credits” for buying premium seats. We have far too many creative tax accountants around to not figure this out. Every NCAA program is working on it...and word will spread fast through the Tanaka. I recall when they first started to reduce to 80%. Lots of gnashing of teeth and hand wringing then too. Best advice for now...either standby and wait or get those next year donations in before the end of the year.
  22. Due to the late season injury, I think Wilson is a free agent signee. I also think Moore gets a free agent deal and maybe McClain as well.
  23. No worries. FAU will have to pay no more than three years of that ten before the NCAA comes calling or before he bolts for some place "bigger and better" in his mind.
