Nice job, Todd. Good to see the crowd size as well. Tells us there is definitely a part of the Mean Green Nation in Collin County eager to meet and greet with other members of the Alumni. I enjoyed being with everyone last evening. Thanks for the nice Mean Green evening!

The Love Shack----Gourmet Burgers
KRAM1 replied to SUMG's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Me too! The guy says he is a big sports fan. I am hoping he will support the Mean Green and show some Green Pride in the place. Can't wait to give it a try...but no quail eggs on my burgers, please and thank you! I have heard the burgers are great. Can't have too many great burger joints and this one also sells beer! Now, that's a burger joint! Welcome to Denton and welcome to the great Mean Green Nation. GO MEAN GREEN! -
They'll be out...hang in there...I am sure that Debbie has more to do than work on these "freebies". ha! They will be worth the wait. I'll see you Thursday at the Collin County Chapter UNT Alumni Meeting at Dodie's in Allen.

Agree 100% with the above post. We had great support from our women's and men's team for this event. The money tree that was on display came from the women's team and we had a referee (Raquel Cuffie) who plays on the team and a great deal...I mean a great deal of help from Raquel's mom, Terri. I was really pleased to see this support, and I think everyone had a great time. Folks, please support this event next year...donate, play, sponsor, volunteer to help, etc. I hope to be able to make some changes that will lead to even more fun and more support for the Cheer Squad. I cannot thank everyone enough...and, if you "accidentally" picked up TheTastyGreek's game day shirt...I need it back so I can deliver it to him. He contributed to the game, we had his shirt at the event (he could not attend), but after the game the shirt was missing in action. If anyone has any idea where the thing went please PM me. I'd like to get it back to give to the owner. Thanks. Thanks also needs to go to the Cheer Squad. They did a great job in rounding up corporate sponsors for the event, helping with the planning and then actually showed up for the event in big numbers and attended the after game party. Next year I hope to have more kids come out to watch and get them in some fun with the cheer squad. Thank you Cheer Squad as well for all you did to help make the event a success!

Well...good idea, but that would run the cost of the shirt up to almost the registration fee and eliminate any donation to the scholarship fund from the registration fees. The more we print on the shirts that is "different" on each shirt other than something that can be screen printed like the logo requires hand work and individual attention...makes it much more costly. We could raise registration fees I guess, but that might hurt participation...sort of like raising taxes and actually expecting to see increased tax revenue inflows...NOT! But, great idea...maybe we could get a sponsor to do the printing for free? Any ideas?

New Dirt On Pay-For-Play In College Football
KRAM1 replied to Mean Green 93-98's topic in Mean Green Football
Sad state of affairs when it degenerates to this sort of thing. Not surprising, not shocked, just sad on several counts. Certainly doesn't help to "level the playing field" and certainly casts a dubious eye toward the NCAA's enforcement arm when dealing with the "big boys vs the others". Mostly, it points to the greed and stupidity of young athletes who have been given way to many "passes" just because they can play a sport well and to the greed and stupidity of adults who are supposed to know better. Plenty of blame to go around, but if the NCAA was even the slightest bit interested in cleaning this all up, they could do so in a heartbeat with some "death penalty" or near-death penalty stuff fro the big boys. I certainly will not hold my breath. I would hope any adult caught in this sort of operation could be prosecuted under some bribery statute or anything else that could be used...send a few of these idiots to jail and watch it slow down immediately. Anyone think this will happen anytime soon? Not me...too much money involved. Just look at Dez Bryant. He's buying hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of jewelry ON CREDIT while still a student (laugh laugh "student") at Oklahoma State University and now is said to owe over $800,000! Jewelry no less...stupid is as stupid does. Dez is a very immature KID who lacks any sense of how stupid he looks. Adults, well adults are another matter. Dez needs to pay up and get a "keeper" or his career in pro ball will be over before it ever started. When Dion Sanders doesn't want much more to do with him, you know the kid must be in serious denial and need serious attention. Amazingly sad stuff here folks. -
I saw this drill up close and in person yesterday. Very spirited, lots of cheering and yelling, several near-fights had to be broken up by the coaches, and it seemed the players were really into the thing. Offense won the belt yesterday after defense took it the first time. I told Coach McCarney yesterday that we did the very same drill when i was playing 6th and 7th grade football. I did mention that the intensity is a bit higher with the Mean Green. A video was playing of the drill in the entrance to the Athletic Dept. HQ yesterday as well. Great stuff! You just get the feeling that this program is the "real deal" now. Sure, none of us know how the team will actually do come game day in September, but if what I have witnessed so far is any indication, we, as fans, are in for some very positive experiences starting right now! GO MEAN GREEN!

Butler over UConn for the championship. Now, everyone knows how great I am at making predictions. If you are smart you might want to place your bets accordingly.

The Libyian Situation
KRAM1 replied to KRAM1's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Isn't the power of rationalization great when it comes to supporting one's personal opinion? Those that did not like Bush will always find some way to throw Bush out as the root of all that is wrong and find a way to bless Obama for all he is doing right...and vice versa. It was enjoyable to me to listen to Obama use some of the same "logic" in speaking to the country last evening that Bush had used in his speeches...of course, even Obama couldn't resist taking a shot at Bush last night. you know, it's just different when your guy says it! Too funny. Folks, call it what you want, rationalize it any way you want too, the US went to war under Bush's watch and did so under Obama's watch. Remember, there was a coalition of nations involved in both the Iraq wars and in Afghanistan...there is a coalition involved in the Libyan campaign. Call it what you want...blame whoever you want, bullets and missiles are flying and people are being killed. The U.S. has very little "vital interests" to be tied to Libya, and even if we had the proof, no one will ever know if the people of Benghazi (spelling?) would have been slaughtered as Obama said they would be to justify the US initiated attack. What I do know is that US troops are now involved in a conflict on three fronts. Very tough situation, and in my opinion, this Libyan thing may see "boots on the ground" before it is all said and done. Nice that we can justify this one as a humanitarian effort in which we now want to take a back seat. Right! You go Arab League! You go NATO! -
I can see both sides in this debate. While I am for the right of citizens to bear arms in their self defense, I wonder if this isn't a bit of overreaction. No, not so much by the families of the students, teachers and administrators who have been killed or injured by some "nut case" on campus, but just the fact that so few have been harmed by violence on a college campus...in relative terms that is. Now, it does seem that on-campus violence is increasing, but what about knife attacks, abductions, rapes (date rape), etc. How would this help those situations as they are often committed by someone the victim knows somewhat well. Another thing I would like to see is the number of illegal shootings and gun violations carried out by those who actually possess a concealed hand gun license. My guess, very very very few. So, if that is the case, and I believe it is, it seems law abiding concealed handgun license folks would be more positive then negative around a campus. On the other hand, part of me says that we should leave the shooting to members of law enforcement. Too bad those that commit such crimes on campus don't hold the same view. I am definitely "conflicted on this issue", but not on the fact that I believe citizens have the right to legally possess guns in this nation. I doubt that many people realize the number of concealed handguns they have been in close proximity to in the last several years anyway. I do not own a gun at this time and have no desire to do so. But, I have no problem with those who do legally own such. This really is a tough question for folks like me...on one hand I say "great" arm 'em and let 'em blast away at the bad guys, then another part of me says..."on a college campus?" Tough call.

Click on the link to watch a video of the Mean green's very own Raquel Cuffie sing the National Anthem on Senior day before the Women's Basketball Game. Not only is this young lady a great member of the UNT Women's team, she has some quality pipes as well. And, she made a darn good ref during the GMG.Com BB Game this last Saturday as well...much better on the eyes than those other two refs we had! Way to go Raquel! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTt44CdXVs4 GO MEAN GREEN...cannot wait to see who is selected to be the next HC of the UNT Women's BB team. It will be great to have this settled and have the ladies "back" with a vengeance on the court next season. Let the winning begin! Enjoy the video...excellent stuff!

Drc - Denia Closes Road During Games For New Stadium
KRAM1 replied to Lurker's topic in Mean Green Football
But, since I live in Denton (not Denia) I get to laugh at the folks who live in Frisco, Plano, Dallas, McKinney, Allen, etc. Just sayin...... -
Glad to do it. Really, the thanks goes to my bride...she loves little kids and decided to buy several of the basketballs to give to the "little ones" who might show up to watch Dad play. I'll show her your post. It will make her day! Appreciate you being there and supporting the game and the Cheer Squad. Maybe next year we can have the event at your shop...who knows. Thanks for the support and the kind words. GO MEAN GREEN! Mark

Have to give you a big shout out...just about your entire family was involved from playing to refereeing to donating to providing ideas and support to working at the game itself. You guys were a BIG part of the success of the event...and I do not know how to thank you enough for all your help and support. The phots will probably be something really special. We owe Debbie a big Thank you for doing the photos for us...she is a professional photographer, as you can readily see fro the flag footvball photos from last year in the GMG.com gallery....and she gives up her toime to help with this for us...just super...and thanks to UNT90 for having the connection and helping us secure the services of our very own photographer...thanks so much Debbie...you are the greatest! Make sure we find out how to get info on ECHO's R&B album!!!! Thanks again and go Mean Green!

OK, I am FINALLY able to get on the forum and talk a bit about the game. Sorry ahead of time as this will be a bit lengthy. First things first...Many many thanks to everyone who helped make this event a success...from the players to the cheer squad to the "celebrity refs" to our wonderful sponsors and donors, to those who helped me with ideas and support and to all who came out to both watch and help on game day. I truly hope that you had as much fun as I did. If you couldn't come, make plans to attend (or play) in next year's event. I hope it is even bigger and better. You always learn a thing or two the first time you do one of these events. I would be remiss BIG TIME if I did not give a big shout out of thanks to the UNT Athletic Dept. and in particular PAUL BATCHELDER and JEFF LUSTER... without the help and support of these guys this event would not have been able to take place. In addition, Kendra talkin and Matt Phillips are due a "thank you" for helping me obtain our title sponsor, Metzler's! OK here goes: Final Score: Emmitt01 FINALLY ends up on the winning side in one of these events: GREEN TEAM: 77 .... WHITE TEAM: 49 We had some "honors" to hand out after the game...all selected by our celebrity refs (Raquel Cuffie, Josh White and Shannon Shorter) . White Team MVP: UNT90 White Team Hustle Award: MeanJewGreen Green Team MVP: ECHO (never any doubt in this selection) Green Team Hustle Award: Bonfire Brian Spirit Award: Mean Green Matt Thanks to our brothers Haitt (Sean and Jason) who were the winning bidders for the autographed football and basketball. And, thanks to all our bidders who helped move the bids up as the event and day progressed...in fact we had a bidder waiting to raise the bid yet again just as time ran out. It was great to see so many of the Cheer Squad show up to cheer for the respective teams and to have so many basketball players come to watch, help and referee. Special thanks go to our two basketball team managers who came and ran our scoreboard and clock, brought the balls for the warm ups and game and the autographed basketball. And, to George Odufawa who helped keep track of player fouls during the game. OK, now for some GREAT NEWS! How did we do for the Cheer Squad? We'll I am very pleased to say that we blew through the goal of $1,000 net to the Cheer Squad and due to the generosity of up sponsors, players , donors and fans we will be handing the Athletic Dept. checks in the amount of $1, 925.00!!!!!! That $1925.00 is AFTER all expenses and will be given to the Athletic Dept. on Monday. You folks are the best! It is in situations like this that I see so many people put aside their differences...be they political or with something related to UNT....to come together to have a great time and to support a great cause...if for no other reason I am happy to have been a part of this because I saw three little kid's faces light up when I gave them small Mean Green Basketballs (thanks to my bride buying them as a gift to the event) and when I saw Emmitt's beautiful little girl sing the Mean Green fight song live and in person along with the UNT Cheer Squad. Made this "old guy's" day! Again, well done all...thanks to everyone and make plans now to be part of next year's event! GO MEAN GREEN!

The Libyian Situation
KRAM1 replied to KRAM1's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Apologist at work. -
Again Ralph Nader opens his mouth and shows how stupid he really is about most things. I thought that guy had finally faded into the woodwork. You know he's saying something stupid by watching to see if his lips are moving. The guy is a joke!
-
"McCarthy could face up to five years in prison based on the single charge he currently faces." Folks...tap the brakes a bit on the indignant outrage. The operative word in the statement is "could". The guy has not been tried nor sentenced as yet. I do love the way some try to write this off as a "victim-less crime" and compare the probable outcome to more serious crimes (serious in the opinion and minds of the poster). One can find any number of seemingly "strange" sentences for all sorts of crimes. Not a good idea to compare as you probably were not at the trial and have no real knowledge of what the full circumstances were as presented. I definitely agree that some of this sort of thing makes very little sense, but it is very hard to compare "apples to apples" in the case of courtroom trials, crimes, etc., etc. None the less...this guy deserves whatever punishment he gets. And, for me, I would shed no tears if he got the full five years! We have been through this in another thread...not the football board, of course, so no need to re-hash it all. The guy is a thief and he is stealing intellectual property and causing others economic harm while probably placing a few more people in the unemployment lines. If you think this sort of thing is "fun" and victim-less, well, you are sadly mistaken and very very naive. Or, you have aided and abetted this crime by participating and thought, "no harm no foul", I'm getting stuff for free...yipee!

Roy Metzler and Metzler's BBQ is INDEED Mean Green Proud! Big supporters of the Mean green and have been for some time. Roy gives a good deal of his time and treasure in support of the Mean green. BTW...excellent BBQ, beer selection and wines at Metzler's on Londonderry Lane (also has a place on University nearer TWU than UNT). Best selection of beers to go in Denton as well. While both places might be a bit far from UNT for an after game party, it would be a great place to meet if such a gathering were planned a bit ahead of time. It's about 6 min. or so from the new stadium by car (Teasley Lane at Londonderry). One reason I like to frequent Metzler's is, in fact, their support for not only UNT but for Denton as a whole. Great people, excellent food, cold beer and big Mean green fans. What more could one ask for if they are a member of the Great Mean green Nation? BTW...Roy was very quick to say "yes" to sponsoring this year's GoMeanGreen.com BB Classic...I think I recall his quote was "whatever I can do to help". Thank you Metzler's BBQ and thank you Roy Metzler! GO MEAN GREEN!

Much appreciated. It's great to have new members and I appreciate your joining. There has never been a better time to support the Mean green. Thanks for coming and thanks even more for being a member of the great Mean Green Nation!

Have a great trip and a safe return....We'll be looking for your trip updates now that you have discovered that the internet does, in fact, also operate from Spain. Amazing how this new fangled stuff that Al Gore invented has grown!
