  1. Agree...my bride and I can often be found on Friday's with a burger and a pitcher of good cold beer in our favorite Sweetwater booth. Believe it or not Jimmy (one of Sweetwater's owners) does a great catering job. Also cooks up a mean Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner for those who do not want to cook. You order and set a time to pick it up...we have done this several times...always great! Sweetwater is a great local place. Thanks for mentioning it, Dozer!
  2. Thanks, Brett...good to know. Wow...a 17-0 head start. Should be interesting. See you Saturday! GO MEAN GREEN!
  3. DONATION LINK IS UP! Check it out. It says ANDREW SMITH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP. It is located on the right hand side of the "forums" home page just under the GMG.Com donations site. It's a great way (and an easy way) for those who cannot attend or play in the 8th Annual GMG.Com Bowl to still help make a difference. Simply click on the link and make a donation. We are trying to raise $1500 for the Andrew Smith Memorial Scholarship Fund. Hopefully, we can raise at least $500 of that through the donations site here on GMG.Com. Check it out, and remember...any donation helps...big or small...are are very much appreciated and very much needed. If you don't like on-line sites for donations, you can always PM me and I'll give you info on how you can make a donation by check. CAN WE DO IT????? Heck yes, we can do it...let's get it started! Many thanks to all who even consider helping. I know you get lots of "opportunities" to part with some of your very hard earned cash. Sometimes one just can't do everything they would like to do. I certainly get that...but if you can, even $5.00 would be greatly appreciated. And, of course, 100% of net proceeds go directly to the Andrew Smith memorial Scholarship Fund. Thanks again... GO MEAN GREEN! Go GMG.Com Bowl #8! Sign up to play, make a donation, contribute something to the silent auction or just attend and have some fun on June 11th.
  4. OK, so have you been to the last few spring games? How many students did you see attending? I've been going to spring games each chance I get for over 20 years and never has, in my memory, there been any sizable student turnout. I also have to say that your comment about the "10 promoters doing nothing" is a bit out of line. The folks I know who have taken on those jobs seem to me to be working their rear ends off. I see them everywhere and they are going all over the metroplex talking with donors and potential donors. Maybe they have missed an opportunity or two that you have attended or missed a call or two, but I am most happy with the help and support I am getting from them with the Mean Green Rep program (a program UNT never had before they initiated it based on what some of these folks had seen at other universities), the events I have helped to sponsor, the stadium tours, the personal meetings with folks I have referred to them, their working the crowds at the basketball games (first time I have ever seen that happen), the work in the Mean Green Room and pavilion at Fouts, their helping with our Alumni Chapter Mixers (attending and supplying promo items). I understand that this is just from my perspective and you are certainly welcome to your opinion which are based on circumstances other than mine I am certain, but I respectively do think your "do nothing" comment was a bit over the top. These folks are working long hours and sometimes seven days a week. Do you not recall Mandy???? That was the prime example of "do nothing". I think we have upgraded that work area as much as the coaching staffs and facilities in recent days. Just my opinion...not trying to pick a spat here.
  5. I really don't think cleats are necessary...some good turf shoes would be fine, in my opinion, and they would be versatile enough to wear for other purposes as well...not just once a year for the GMG.Com Bowl (by the way, thanks...you are my first sign-up for next years game... ) . But, if anyone really wants to wear cleats, I am assuming that is certainly A-OK. The UNT teams certainly have done so for years at Fouts...jut sayin..... Bear feet would work as well, unless, of course you got stepped on by someone wearing cleats! Really happy to have you with us for this year's GOMEANGREEN.COM BOWL. I think you will enjoy yourself a good bit!
  6. I am attending the alum awards Friday night and I am attending the spring game as well. I don't think the Alumni Awards Banquet will keep anyone from the spring game...and students never really have attended spring games at Fouts. I really hope you are way off in your prediction...I still think we will see a very nice crowd and some great tailgating for this first green-white game under Coach McCarney. The weather should be PERFECT...so, that should definitely help.
  7. UPDATE: We have a T-shirt sponsor...none other than the Mean Green's very own unt88 has stepped up to say that the BILLIARD FACTORY will be one of out title sponsors! The Billiard Factory is located at 2061 S. Stemmons Frwy in Lewisville. And, in case you didn't know it, they carry all sorts of game room items...not just great pool tables and billiards equipment. We are talking pinball, shuffleboards, poker tables, pub tables, arcade games, dart boards...complete game rooms, folks. So, check them out whenever you are in need (or want) of such items. They support the Mean Green AND the GMG.Com flag football game scholarship effort. Thank you very much. Your generous support is very much appreciated...and, yes, this is the same unt88 who has offered to provide some Rangers game tickets for the silent auction as well. Can't sat "thank you" enough! You folks do know that unt88 played for the Mean Green under Coach Dickey, right? We still need additional sponsors and silent auction materials. If you or the company you work for would like to help in any way, please let me know...we can work on just about any donation level and silent auction items can go a long way in helping raise enough to meet and exceed our stated goal of $1500. Just send me a private message (PM) here through GMG.Com if you have ideas or want to help in some way. All donations, big and small, are very much apprecaited and help a great deal...personal donations, business donations...all good! Thanks again to unt88 and the Billiard Factory for stepping up to help student athletes at UNT!

  9. medpilot...WOW...two things...first, great to see you signed up to play...second...WOW! Many thanks for the donation for the silent auction. That is super. I am sure it will be a favorite. Thanks so much...appreciate the support for this very good cause! Now, that's what I talkin' about!
  10. Road Warriors! Way to go ladies...you did the Mean green proud once again. I believe the future is very bright for this team and I cannot wait to see the action next fall...even some at home. Nice! Maybe some of these teams will start playing UNT at home in the spring soon...never the less...great job ladies. GO MEAN GREEN!
  11. Great news for JJ and his team. Well deserved, well earned. UNT is making some increased financial commitments to its coaching staff these days, and that say a good deal about what the university thinks can happen with the entire athletic program in relation to the university itself...what it can do to help attract students, donors, active alums, etc. It seems that so many good things are happening at UNT these days that it is kind of hard to keep up with it all. Man, there just does not seem to have been a better time to be a member of the Mean green nation...BUT.... OK, you know where I am going with this, right? It is also time that the members of the Mean Green Nation step up and support the program as well. While Mean green Club new membership applications and membership renewals are off to a very nice start this year, the support is no where near what is needed to help support our scholarship athletes. EACH and every dollar raised through the Mean Green Club relieves the athletic dept. budget of that $1.00 it would have had to use to pay for student scholarships. As members of the great Mean green nation our goal should be that Mean Green Club memberships fund all athletic scholarships at UNT 100%. I am very proud to be a member of the Mean Green Club and proud that I was able to raise my contribution level this year a small amount, but I am even more proud of being able to get to know so many other long time Mean Green Club members and many who have just recently joined. UNT needs you, me and every other supporter more now than ever. If you are not a member of the Mean Green Club, PM me and I'll get you any information you need. Never before has the time been better to support the Mean Green. I am 100% certain that the support I provide will be returned to me many times over in the enjoyment and pride I get from knowing that I am supporting our student athletes and that the small amount that I can give is actually doing some good. The Mean Green is fast getting away from being a "beer budget program" and it is moving toward being in the "champagne budget" realm. Can you help? Will you help? Any amount...large or small is a BIG deal to UNT. It would be both appreciated and very much needed. And with that, I will leave you with...GREAT things are happening at UNT these days...& GO MEAN GREEN! This post has been promoted to an article

  13. WELCOME BACK TO THE MEAN GREEN NATION COACH ASTON! We are glad to have you back as our new HC! Looking for great things from the ladies...GO MEAN GREEN!
  14. I believe we will have a very good turnout...3,500+...I'll be there. I cannot imagine, there being under 3500 with all the excitement of the stadium and the new coaching staff and all the community work the staff is doing these days. I guess we will all see, but I am very hopeful for a good crowd and think there is ample reason to be hopeful. GO MEAN GREEN!
  15. No way to the quail egg thing...I hate fried eggs of any variety...but, I saw several folks with that burger and a guy told me as we were walking in and he was walking out that it was GREAT! So, go for it if you like fried eggs...not so much for me.
  16. No, sorry...did not notice. I wish i had been a bit more observant.
  17. I am glad to see this question get it's own thread because it has been asked and answered...YES...even the Mean Green Club announcement sent around mentioned to "come early and tailgate". However, lots of folks still do not seem to know and it is important that the word get out to as many as possible...come early, tailgate, enjoy the spring game and then stay and tailgate some more. It's football...Mean green football...great stuff! See you there....
  18. So, the bride and I drive by the Love Shack last evening and see that it is, indeed open for business in Denton. Today we decide to go back and give it a try. After getting home from refereeing three games and getting cleaned up we head down to the Love Shack. get there about 2:15pm on Saturday afternoon. There is a short wait for a table (the place is not all that big), so we grab a couple of beers ($3.00/each), and in about 10 minutes we are shown to our table. A guy is playing the guitar and singing so it is not a quiet place, but the vibe in the place is great. Really nice interior and a nice (but smallish patio). The inside can be open like a patio as it is enclosed by two large garage type doors. One was open so it was pretty much an open air palce...pretty cool. So, i order the Love burger (without the quail egg) but all the trimmings otherwise. The bride gets the fish sandwich and we share a large order of what they call fries...very interesting fries...thing and crispy. I was afraid after seeing them on other tables that they would be more like potato chips...nope...in fact very tasty. The burgers are cooked medium...that's the way you get 'em like it or not. I usually like medium rare, but I have to say the burger was great as cooked. Very good beef with a great flavor...the "Love Sauce" and the pickles are different and very good. The bride liked her fish sandwich very much and I grabbed a bite of the fish...grilled nicely...great flavor. Didn't ask what kind of fish, but a white and mild fish (probably talapia or something similar). We had a beer each on the lunch tab (already paid for the beers while waiting on the table), the Love burger with bacon, the fish sandwich and a large order of fries to share...total tab including tip was $26.76! Not bad at all for a very nice late lunch...neat place, good music (even tipped the guy playing...he really was that good). Neat thing was that Tim Love was in the kitchen doing some cooking and teaching i would imagine, so I asked our waiter to see if he would sign our ticket receipt for us...he did...it says "Eat, Drink and Live Well! Tim Love 2011"...pretty nice of him as the place was busy and he was obviously still in the training mode with a very new staff. I have to say that while the service was not "lightening speed", we were very happy about that as we got to relax, enjoy our beers and listen to some good music. We both thought that, for a new place still in the training mode, everyone did a great job. So, give it a try and see what you think. We will definitely retun...on Tuesdays...or was it Thursdays...you can get 5 Pabst Blue Ribbon beers for $5.00...or Schlitz...but Schlitz is pretty much a skunky beer in my opinion. Now Pabst, that's a classic...heck for a $1.00 a beer I pretty much don't care! Ha! There you have it...straight from the brand new Denton's very own "Love Shack". On my next visit i will ask if they will join the Mean green Club!
  19. Excellent job, guys. Much appreciate the effort you guys make and the time it takes you to do this sort of thing for the GMG.com faithful. Takes time and effort, and it is appreciated. Well done! THANK YOU!
  20. The mystery that is the NCAA just keeps getting more mysterious every day. This I don't get. maybe we will find out more about this in a few days. On the surface, it makes very little sense to me. But as my bride often reminds me...what the heck do I know?
  21. If I thought you were actually serious about what you post, I would have some deep concerns about the state of your mental health...as it is, I think you are just having some fun with most of who post here. Carry on!
  22. When will you be able to confirm if you can play or not? Or do you just want me to order you a shirt and place you on a team? I can wait awhile for you to know for sure or place you in the player's pool now. I would hate to have to have you fork over the $25 fee if you ended up not being able to play...I really don't have too much of a need for a medium sized MeanJewGreen t-shirt...just sayin..... :-) Come on, Adam...you know you want to play...yes you can! Yes you can!
  23. GREAT...so I think we have a new player signed up and I find out that "raidogreen" has changed his screen name to THOR! Don't worry, THOR, I am more than certain that you will not be alone in the adult beverage category...in fact, I am thinking about adding a 12-pack of various craft beers to the silent auction ... what do you think? Want to start the bidding now?
