  1. I just found out that there is a JUKLY 22nd deadline for ordering MEAN GREEN GAME DAY TAILGATE TENTS. This year the tents come in two sizes...a 9X9 for $225 and a 9X18 for $375. Order deadline is July 22nd and they can be ordered by contacting Matt Phillips at 940-369-8409. You can visit MEANGREENSPORTS.COM to purchase your tailgate tent on line if you would prefer. Checks can be made payable to "NORTH TEXAS ATHLETICS". You can probably see the tents if you check on line. I did try to attach the order form here, but GMG.Com said the file was too big. I have asked harry to take a look and see if he couldn't post it for me on this thread...but check out MEANGREENSPORTS.Com in the meantime...pretty great looking tents. They, of course, have many uses along with tailgating...like creating a little shade for next year's GMG.Com Bowl 9! Check them out on line or give Matt Phillips a call if interested. Don't miss the deadline to get them ordered in time for delivery for the Sept. 10th kick-off! I hope harry can post the flyer...hint...hint. Help this non-techie out a bit folks..... GO MEAN GREEN! 3. I posted the total in a different thread, but it looks like now we will raise a bit more than i posted...I would think that we are now up to $2400.00. Thanks to all who participated...you are the ones who make this happen. GO MEAN GREEN!
  4. This...I drive by daily as well and can attest to the traffic. There will be plenty of opportunities to really "study" this sign, the phone # and the web address while doing about 10MPH or less. I do, however, agree with drex (and drex has a very good handle on this sort of thing) that 80% of all billboards are unreadable...and certainly at highway speeds, but I did like seeing this one up...and the location seems great. If you drive by it more than once you can focus on the part you want....like the phone number or the web address...does seem like a long web address, doesn't it? I just like the fact that we are seeing UNT billboards around the area and around the metroplex. The Mean Green definitely have something great to sell, so it's good to see the word getting out in multiple ways these days. Can't tell you how many billboards I have noticed in my 30+years of commuting down I-35 and back...most are not fully readable the first couple of times by them, but soon enough I get it all from the ones I am interested in enough to look at more than once. I guess the mantra "less is more" when it comes to billboards is a good thing. GO MEAN GREEN!
  5. Foks...we have bid from EastTxMG of $100 for the Timmarron Golf package. We have about 50 min. left in the bidding... the bids so far are: Timmarron - $100 - (EastTxMG) Stonebridge Ranch - $50.00 (outside bidder) Las Colinas - $50.00 - (Smoothfresh)
  6. So, I ran into Tony Mitchell at Chicken Express yesterday evening on my way to a UNT Alumni Assoc.-Denton Chapter Board meeting. He was having a bite with a young lady...seems he has been invited to participate in the US team try-out camp for the US u-19 squad that will represent the US in the U19 World Championships in Latvia this summer. WOW...good deal...great PR for UNT. He thinks he will make the squad...so do I! GO TONY...Go USA! GO MEAN GREEN! This has to be a first U-19 US Team call up) for the Mean Green...anyone know if it really is? I thought Tony was in summer school. He may well be as this camp is not a long one and neither is the tournament...I think the tournament is about a 10 day deal. Good luck Tony Mitchell!
  7. Dozer...thanks...Where have you been? Glad to have you back posting. Saw this on my way to work...looks great! GO MEAN GREEN!
  8. Excellent news! Welcome to the Mean Green Nation!
  9. Folks...thanks for the bids... Just want to let you know that we have a bid of $50 for Stonebridge Ranch form an "outside bidder". So at this point the bids are: $50 - Stonebridge Ranch (outside bidder) $50 - Las Colinas (Smoothfresh) $50 - Timmarron (Smoothfresh) Folks these are for rounds of golf for 4! Great deals....bidding closes at noon today...many thanks for all who have bid so far...bidding will close at noon today! Looking good...can we keep it going? GO MEAN GREEN!
  10. DEADLINE is approaching...noon tomorrow (THURSDAY 6/16). get those bids in.....thanks to all who are bidding. Sorry I fumbled the ball on these during the GMG.Com Bowl. Everyone who is bidding has helped to "recover" that fumble and benefited the Andrew Smith Memorial Scholarship Fund even more. Thanks...keep those bids coming! GO MEAN GREEN!
  11. Excellent...good to see (and hear) this sort of promo. Seems lots of things are moving in the right direction at UNT these days...GO MEAN GREEN! Someone didn't like this post......because? Please explain as I would really like to know what/why you are thinking to make my comments negative for you.
  12. Just because it is managed by the same folks that manage the book store, does that automatically mean it will have the exact same inventory? I think not. At least I hope not. Would love to see some new "stuff" in the new fan store and am optimistic about that being a reality. GO MEAN GREEN!
  13. Well, sports fans, another terrible outing by this U.S. squad...they beat a lowly squad on a prayer shot by Altidore early in the game and that's IT! The U.S. should...SHOULD being the operative word here...have won by at least 4 or 5 to ZIP! This is not good and bodes for a less than wonderful end to the Gold Cup for the U.S. I cannot figure this squad out. They seem to have no heart...no enthusiasm for the game, and seem to barley even care. I think a shake-up is needed in the line up...let's see who wants to play...I am not sure that many do...where is Donovan? Sure, he's had a nice pass and run or two, but he has pretty much been a non-factor. Dempsey, arguably our best player at the moment, cannot seem to connect even though he is working hard and the defense is adequate at best! WOW...just wow. has Bradley lost this team or is there really a team to lose? This hurts, and does not bode well for the near future. Who is coming on the be the mainstay of the U.S. team? As for the MLS, it is a young league and is having a few growing pains, but where I fault it the most is in its lack of ability to develop players for the National Team. The quality of play in MLS seems to have dropped in the last couple of years...expansion perhaps a bit too soon thus diluting what player pool there is? If the MLS is to gain any sort of legitimacy as a pro league, it must start paying better salaries and finding ways to develop U.S. players. I know that's tough to do when there are not enough fans to support of a more financially stable league. So, we have to give the MLS time. I thought it would be much further along than it is at this time however. Talk about playing in Europe is all well and good, but there are not enough U.S. players good enough to play overseas with any regularity at this time. That is a major problem for the U.S. Perhaps there is a group of U-17's and a few U-19's coming up that will change the fortunes of this team in a year or two, but most "promising stars" we have all come to know in the last few years have really not developed into solid international quality players. Is that coaching? Is that the development program? What the heck is it? Perhaps it is the "Donovan syndrome" at play with U.S. players. Not hungry enough to do what it takes to develop to the fullest like European players are willing to do...and Mexican and South American, etc. Perhaps U.S. players are just not hungry enough. IN Europe and in S.A. we see soccer being played and seen as a "way out" for many and a "way up". The sport has been and continues to be a "blue collar" sport embraced by the fans for the beautiful sport that it is...in the U.S. soccer is played more by "middle, upper-middle and "well-to-do" kids as an alternative to football, baseball, basketball, etc. It is dominated by select team programs and colleges who generally recruit only through the select teams...not the high school or public programs. So, I ask...is this a situation that has helped bring the U.S. squad and soccer player development in the U.S. to the position it is today? If not a major cause, is it partly to blame? I don't know. I have been involved in the select side of youth soccer for years...Club President, team manager, referee, etc., etc. Our son was recruited to play college soccer not because he was an all district goalkeeper for his HS, but because he was the goalkeeper for a very good select team playing in the highest competitive league in the north Texas area at the time. Not one recruiter ever came to one of his HS games, but several came to select tournaments that we played in during the years beginning at about age 14. I now help recruit for a college and I attend Dallas Cup, and a couple of local Showcase tournaments each year. In the 10+ years I have been doing this I have attended ONE high school game to look at a player. Maybe that needs to change id the U.S. is to ever become a year in and year out top international squad. I don't really know, but maybe it's worth pondering. The state of the U.S. squad right now is very poor. Just watch the effort put forth in the Gold Cup against very inferior international squads and you will know in a few seconds how poorly this squad is playing. Is it time to re-evaluate Bradley? maybe 4 years is about all a U.S. team coach can handle. You will recall that Arena did not fare as well in his second term as he did in the first...this is Bradley's second term. I am beginning to wonder if it is one term to many? Well, here comes the quarterfinals...maybe Dempsey and company will come out of their funk now that it is the knock-out round. Thoughts?
  14. Going to keep this "top of mind" until bidding closes at noon this Thursday...come on folks...get those bidding hats on!
  15. That pretty much sums up my experience as well. I, too, often wonder what the difference might be. I know there have been different experiences for some folks, I just wonder what causes them to develop in the first place and then to linger for so long? Mistakes and disagreements tend to get fixed and go away when both parties are willing. But, with so much money, so many people and so many different personalities involved, some challenges are just bound to come up.
  16. WELCOME BACK TO THE PIT! Great news...i assume the "financial" situation has improved as well by your post...I say that's a win-win for everyone. See you at the Pit! GO MEAN GREEN!
  17. The Alumni Pavilion will be a great spot to meet and greet before the games. It is rumored to be opening three (3) hours before game time, and should turn into a great pre-game meet up and party spot. It is not meant to replace tailgating in the more traditional way, just to augment the game day experience for members of the UNT Alumni Association and their guests. Should be great...hope to see you there before the games. I think all the tailgating issues will sort themselves out given a bit of time with the new stadium and all the learning curves that will take place both by the administration and the fans. We do need to relaize that not everythuing will be 100% come day one on Sept. 10th. Everyone may want to take a bit of a step back, take a deep breath and not be overly quick to criticize or praise until the opening "bugs" are worked out. Everyone will learn from each game day experience and soon all will be "normal" come game days for the Mean Green nation. Until then, try to relax, try to enjoy the fact that the Mean Green have a great new stadium and have a great time with a brand new game day experience or two or three. Heck, since 1966 I have been going to Fouts for games and certainly "know" my way around with game day routines. ALL that changes on September 10th. It will be new for everyone. Try to relax and enjoy the experience...it's all new! GO MEAN GREEN! GO MEAN GREEN!
  18. Just wanting to get this back "up top" as the bidding remains open. GREAT values here folks, and great father's day gift ideas! What do you bid......
  19. See, there are things to set up for a revenge game next season....just like the Mavs losing to the Heat after being up 2-0 a few years ago and then they storm back in 2011 to take the title...will the green team storm back next year in GMG.Com Bowl 9????? Only the Phantom knows for sure...be there.
  20. Matt, the way the US is playing right now, playing anyone scares me...i think FC Dallas could take the US team right now and FC Dallas is not playing well right now either. Bradley simply must find a solution to the chemistry of that team...and figure it out fast. The individual talent is there, but, wow, are they playing poorly. Communication is terrible, positioning is even worse and there seems to be no one "take charge" guy. This, of course, does have something to do with coaching. So, maybe it's time to ask...is Bradley the guy? Not ready to call for his head or anything near that, but he does seem a bit perplexed these days. The US squad should be blowing through this Gold Cup and not liming around like the US squads of yesteryear. I'm keeping the faith that the team will respond, but winning against these Gold Cup group teams should have been a cakewalk, not the struggle it has been. Perhaps that's part of the problem...the team and coaching staff thought it would be a cakewalk as well and did not prepare properly. Big mistake if that is the case. We'll see..plenty of time. If they do get it going, the US is still in a position to win the Cup. GO USA!!!!!!!
  21. You really seem to like to throw that term "shill" around a bunch when it comes to the oil companies and really any big business. Are folks shills if they just don't agree with some anti-business agenda? Just wondering. No biggie. So, to you it's OK for dealers to up the price of the Volt $10-20K, but not OK for big oil to charge for its products based on supply and demand? What am I missing here? The VOLT is so great that they are already showing up on used car lots? I wonder how all that electricity is generated that these wonderful electric cars will run on? Wind power perhaps? Perhaps the editor at the Startlegram is shilling for the electric car advocates...Hmmmmmmm, I wonder. I like alternative fuel ideas and think there should be continued research and production. Anything to get off the Middle East's oil pipeline, but I do think we should look to ways to produce more oil/gas locally...the US/Canada, etc. The current administration is not helping that much...perhaps they are "shilling" for the environmental lobby. What do you think, Silver? This sort of "tit for tat" stuff is ruining all possibility of sane political discussion and thought these days. BOTH sides are at fault in that, and it is darn sure time that BOTH sides grew up and started acting in the best interests of this great nation of ours. That's one reason that I have tried to stay out of the political talk here on GMG.Com. It does ABSOLUTLY NO GOOD, and it will not change any one's mind about these positions. Too rigid and too closed minded it seems. That's a shame. there was a time when our politicians (think LBJ) would talk all they wanted in public and then get together behind the scenes and work out a compromise and actually get on with the business of this great nation of ours. Too bad things have become so rigid and so "public" and so "tit for tat" (yes, on both sides of the aisle) that not much good gets done. Time for everyone to take a step back and maybe, just maybe try to see a little...maybe just a little of both sides of the issue. As is often the case, neither side is 100% right nor 100% wrong.
  22. Damn officials...you just can't trust 'em!
  23. You guys are great...keep 'em coming...bidding open until Thursday at noon...just adds to the scholarship pot. many thanks...my fault these were not out on the tables in the first place...thanks folks...bidding remains open.
  24. Terrible effort by the US squad...really not much more to say...they earned the loss...that's for certain. Very disappointing. Panama no less...the Gold Cup no less...it should be a two team race this year...plain and simple...USA and Mexico, but right now I am not too sure about the US. Play like they did against Panama and OUCH. Sad display of effort from the US squad...hard to watch. Only late in the game did they play with any passion and by then it was pretty much over. Let's hope this wakes them up...I really did not think they played that well against Canada in that win...US should have dominated from the opening whistle...they did not! BUT...USA....USA...GO USA!!!!!!
  25. That's a big turnout for UNT and one that, I think, shows the growing interest in the UNT program. Great job Coach mac and company...now, let's hope some commits come to UNT soon due to all the hard work Mac and his staff are getting in these days...not to mention that great new stadium. Were they in the new stadium working out????? Hope so. GO MEAN GREEN!
