  1. Welcome to the Mean Green Nation. Love the comment about the weight room.
  2. The Mean Green Nation mourns the loss of this young member. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Dibrell family.
  3. I am so very proud to be part of the great Mean Green nation. Simply FANTASTIC! GO MEAN GREEN! WNNT!!!!
  4. Report I read said Tony had made the squad. Maybe the report was a tad premature? Don't know, but it did say and I quote"UNT freshman forward Tony Mitchell, a former Pinkston standout, made the 13-player U.U. roster that will defend its gold medal in the FIBA Under-19 World Championships in Latvia from June 30-July 10." Dallas Morning News, Sports section C, page 2c..dated 6-20-11. I think the squad is 13 strong...but, heck, you never know...maybe the report is incorrect. Either way, i think Tony is on that squad when all is said and done. GO TONY...GO MEAN GREEN!
  5. Better...I hope Phil is much more "correct" than Campbell at 3 wins. I think 5 wins at a minimum for the Mean green in 2011. GO MEAN GREEN!
  6. OK, back on track here...Tony Mitchell did, indeed, make the US U19 team. Great for Tony, congratulations, and great for North Texas! Now, just don't get hurt! Oh, and GO USA! Win the thing. GO MEAN GREEN!
  7. Cane's sauce = mayo and ketsup (and a touch of spice). What in the sam hill is special about that...and the toast is pretty common. Now, I agree the chicken is good, but i have yet to find a reason to pay the inflated price they charge over UNT loyal Chicken Express on Eagle Dr. But, I do not disagree that the chicken is good at Cane's...just better at Chicken Express. GO MEAN GREEN!
  8. Nice win by the US and now a chance to revenge that terrible game and loss to panama earlier in the tournament. I thought Bradley's move to keep Donovan on the bench to start the game (for whatever reason) was excellent. The guy has not played well and has played with little to no energy/enthusiasm .... until he came off the bench against Jamaica and started to make things happen for the US. Nice move Bradley...welcome back Landon. I hope you stay awhile... USA...USA...USA! Beat Panama!
  9. Folks; On a trip to Ft. Worth Saturday i was able to put Eage1855's CD in the player for the first time. The CD is named "old Denton Roads" and it is really really good. My bride and I played it several times Saturday and already have a couple of favorite tracks on the CD...namely "Tennessee Moon" and "Four-Leaf Clover". I am a sucker for good ballads, and this CD fills the bill for me. The CD is...BRANT LEE CROUCHER - "Old Denton Roads", and I would recommend that you check it out. Try www.brantleecroucher.com Brant was also great in helping us raise funds for the Andrew Smith Scholarship fund through the sales of his songs and CD during the April and May. Thanks so much for that help, Brant. But, folks, this is one of UNT's own and this is good stuff. Check it out. GO MEAN GREEN!
  10. Folks, I have in my possession a shopping bag with four UNT items in it that was left at the stadium after the recent GMG.Com Bowl. I would like to get the items back to the rightful owner. If these items are your items or you know who they might belong to please let me know. You can post it here or PM me...appreciate the help. The items in the bag are: 1) Khaki Visor with a green script "North Texas"; 2) Magnet...for auto, refrigerator that says "Mean Green", 3) Beetle Clip for sunglasses (hold sunglasses, reading glasses, regular glasses) with "UNT" on the clip; and 4) small flag that "North Texas" surrounded by the words "University of North Texas". If you left this bag at the game...up on a table where the silent auction was held...or if you know who might have left it, please let me know. It needs to find it's rightful owner. Thanks.
  11. mdh0192...I am in 100% agreement with you. Chicken Express beats Raisin canes hands down...and also, the Chicken express on eagle Drive near North Texas supports UNT. I like to support the merchants that support UNT whenever possible. GO MEAN GREEN!
  12. I guess that one loss for Houston comes on Sept. 10th. GO MEAN GREEN! No way UNT goes 3-9. Much better record for the Mean Green this year! Why Not North Texas!!!!!
  13. I do believe this is a strong indication that the development/sales team that RV has assembled is doing a very good job. The focus up to know for these folks has been on Box and Club Seats. Now they will begin to turn their attention to season ticket sales. Still, lots of work to be done, and certainly some mis=steps will be made along the way, but these numbers certainly indicate that progress is being made, and even though season ticket sales have not been the #1 priority up to this point, more season tickets have been sold at this point than were sold at this point in the year last season. So, hopefully, we will see a nice increase in season ticket sales as well. A good season on the field will certainly help as well, and I am hopeful that this team and this staff can deliver some exciting action for the fans this fall. Nice start folks, now, members of the great Mean Green Nation, let's all get out there and talk positively about this program, this university and this new stadium and help with the season ticket sales. Just be positive...keep your challenges and problems "in house", and we can all help move this program forward. GO MEAN GREEN!
  14. letsgiveacheer hits the nail squarely on the head when he says things like "the area really gets behind the team". That is a BIG help, indeed. For far too long (and it still remains today) there has been a big "town and gown gap" in Denton. It's not just UNT, TWU gets it's fair share of "lack of community support" as well. Denton is an "interesting" town, and that's one reason I love it so much, but it is "blind" when it comes to understanding the mutual benefit that UNT and the community could be if they ever really worked together. It has always been strange to me (we moved to Denton in 1965) as many of the local politicians and town leaders were UNT and TWU professors and administrators. One would think that would help meld the two into a great partnership. But, alas, that was and is still not the case. Now it has become so a part of the local culture that, at times, it seems neither side is willing to do anything to change it. Take a look at other small communities where universities and colleges are located. You will find many that "love" each other...think Stillwater, Oklahoma and OSU...think Warrensburg, Mo. and U. of Central Missouri, think Old Dominion as letsgiveacheer notes...heck, the list can go on and on...Bryan College-Station...even Norman, etc., etc. So, why the gap between UNT and Denton? Beats the crud out of me...I have thoughts just as all Denton residents do...and there is plenty of "issues" to go around on both sides...the stadium and the Denia folks come to immediate mind.... I long for the day when both sides wake up and see how much greater it could be if they really were partners and acknowledged the benefit of each to the other. If the city embraced UNT and UNT embraced the city, that new stadium would already have 10,000 + season ticket holders. Maybe the new administration has noticed the same challenge and will work to open up the lines of communication. Could happen...should happen. GO MEAN GREEN!
  15. Hey, Deep...if you live close enough to come up, let me know and I'll take you over and introduce you to several of the "new folks" working athletic development and ticket sales. Or, better yet, give Cooper Jones a call and set up a introduction meeting with his team and then step over and meet the new ticket folks. They are "good folks" and definitely have goals. I know there have been some missteps here and there, and that is too bad for all concerned, but these folks are working hard to get the numbers up and to bring more people both to and back to the Mean Green. I think we all hope that their efforts pay off. If all you recall are the "Mandy days" then you are in for a very pleasant surprise indeed. But, really, no problem meeting and getting to know these folks. I'll buy the beer afterwards if you want me to set this up!
  16. Most excellent of ideas, Sir!
  17. Step back a bit there UNTcrazy727 on the firing stuff. There is a brand new team in town focusing on seat sales and season tickets. The old regime is really pretty much gone. Now, let's just give the new team a chance to see what they can do. So far the reports are pretty darn positive with all the suites sold, more than half of the club seats sold and season ticket sales ahead of this time last year. I agree that the support for UNT has been woeful at best when it comes to season ticket sales, but game day attendance has been on the rise, and should be way up this season with the opening of the new stadium. For UNT to have under 3000 season tickets sold is truly a shame...I saw some Oklahoma State folks on their board whining recently about having sold only 31,000 season tickets so far this year...and they are predicted by some to be an early season pick in the Top 10! So, I guess numbers can be relative, but UNT needs to have more support and the folks are out trying to get that support "in the house". Notice the billboards, the radio talk, the new stadium, the new coaching staff, the new athletic dept. development and sales staff members, etc,, etc. I think you might be a tad late to the party with the "shows pathetic support" thing from Alumni and fans, as that train left the station years ago. No denying the pathetic support part at all. We all know area high schools who sell more than 2500 season tickets, right? So, now we will see where this goes with the new sales and promo efforts and the new stadium/coaching staffs, etc. I am right now thinking it's going in the right direction. I just hope many many more people jump on the season ticket bandwagon and SOON! GO MEAN GREEN!
  18. Well, I guess you and I just have different standards for "right and wrong" even for a single guy. Sending "explicit" tweets, etc. to underage kids is "scumbag" action in my book for anyone...married or single. And, I hold my elected officials to an even higher standard of ethical behavior as they are represented this great nation of ours. His being married or not has little/nothing to do with his "scumbagedness". Maybe its a fine line with you, but I think we all know the line was crossed...single or not.
  19. Wrong! But, you knew that before you posted the comment.
  20. I wish Coach Dodge nothing but the best going forward and I thank him for his efforts at UNT. Nice to see that he has positive things to say about his time at UNT. Yes, Both Coach Dodge and Coach McCarney are correct regarding academics at UNT. Much improvement was seen under Dodge's watch, but much was still to be done...Dodge got the train back on the tracks and McCarney will drive it to its destination. There is absolutely no reason to think that Coach Dodge will not be successful at Pitt, and it is a good bet that he will one day again be a HC at a D-1 program. That time will come and he will be much better prepared for what he will be facing. So, absolutely, both UNT and Coach Dodge are in better shape and in a better position now to move forward. Good luck Coach Dodge and GO MEAN GREEN!
  21. Amazing how the guy decides to resign just after his wife gets home! A tad late, sir, but at least you finally resigned. Scumbag that you are! This has absolutely nothing to do with being democrat or republican, it has everything to do with one's moral compass and understanding of right and wrong.
  22. Wouldn't having more games and a bigger roster (think travel costs) add to the expense as well? I don't think baseball will break-even much less make money at UNT, but neither do many of the other sports...well, any at UNT at this point. Probably not a reason to keep from starting up baseball at UNT. I just think the thought that it would be a money maker for UNT (or any other university for that matter) is a bit misguided. What UNT needs is a "deep pockets" guy who would like to see baseball started to step up with a $1,000,000 or so and get it going. Don't laugh, it is very possible that will all the positive things going on at UNT these days...both in athletics and in academics...that someone may well step up. As you may recall...a $1,000,000 donor stepped up just this year for the athletic dept. These type of folks are definitely out there, and several are UNT Alums. They just need to be "awakened" to all that is awesome at UNT these days. I can tell you this much, if I ever have a "long lost rich uncle/aunt" die, that guy will be me...well, a winning lottery number wouldn't hurt either. Alas, I am just a working stiff without any rich family...but, these folks are "out there". And, for the first time in a long time, UNT is doing a much better job of finding them and bringing them home to UNT. GO MEAN GREEN!
  23. Just asking....what makes you think attendance in the 2-3,000 range would make for a "financially viable" program at UNT? Basketball at UNT averages around 3500 and it is not funding itself. Is basketball any more expensive than baseball? Just asking...not making a statement here. Do baseball players get "full" scholarships like football and basketball players or can they be split into smaller and smaller pieces...some claiming to be on scholarship while only receiving book money in the "lesser sports"? If scholarship costs are way below basketball then maybe attendance at 2-3000 would make it work...as long as ticket prices were appropriate. But, how many of the attendees at these school's games are actually "paid" attendees? I just don't know enough about the economics of college baseball, but, hopefully, someone here does and can shed some light on the subject. GO MEAN GREEN!
  24. Joe...the flyer I have says "purchase". So, I assume they are yours to "have and to hold until death do you part". Go to the website I mentuioned....meangreensports.com....you can see them there until I can get some help posting the flyer here on GMG.Com. www.meangreensports.com EDIT: Just found out the tent flyer is not on meangreensports as yet, but should be on the site sometime in the next day or two. Confirmed that the tents are for purchase at the prices indicated.
  25. Folks...bidding is now closed...and the winners are (THANK YOU VERY MUCH): Las Colinas - $100 (Smoothfresh) Timmarron - $125 (Smoothfresh) Stonebridge Ranch - $100 - EastTXMG That's an extra $325 for the scholarship fund! Way to go everyone. This is really great news...appreciate everyone helping to recover my "fumble" here....I will contact each of the winners and arrange for delivery of the certificates ASAP. Thanks again to all who participated...winning bidders or not...everyone helped and was willing to be the high bidder. Super stuff from some great members of the Mean Green Nation. GO MEAN GREEN!
