  1. A member of the great Mean Green Nation has died and all our hearts are heavy as a result. Go with God, Ray, and may God grant your family peace. Well done, sir!
  2. Who cares? The WAC is a non-starter, and UNT is better off having nothing to do with the Wacky WAC. Going downhill fast is the WAC, and I am glad UNT is not party to this. better days are ahead for UNt, not so sure about the WAC, but, sure, let's schedule these guys and blow their socks off and shut 'em up. Better than scheduling Southern, right? GO MEAN GREEN!
  3. Sorry...raising taxes is never the answer. If you want more tax revenue, you need to lower tax rates, not raise them.
  4. Are these the same ones passed out at the Coaching Caravans?
  5. Heavy entitlement states always fail in the long run. Once you give up personal responsibility for the government handout the result is never good long term. Note the failure of the "War on Poverty" as a prime example of how a well intentioned program ends up making matters much worse over the long-term.
  6. I just can't stop thinking there is something ironic about the Clemens perjury trial before Congress. Here we have a group of "judges" from Congress who sit in a body that lies to each other and the American public on a consistent basis, and then has the gall to stand in judgement of Clemens who may or may not have lied to Congress. Geeeeeezzz, i do think something is a bit odd about the whole thing. Yes, Clemens was under oath, but those "judges" take an oath as well when they take office. I just can't get very fired up about this and besides, doesn't Congress have much bigger "fish to fry", like say the budget and the deficit and the war, etc., than worrying about whether grown men shoot some crap into their bodies to try to get an edge playing a game????? Just wondering on a Friday morning.
  7. Most of his comments related to the revenue side...expense side is also part of the equation. You can be doing much better as a state than most other states and still have revenue/expense mismatches. When you spend more than you take in, something has to give. It really isn't as hard as our politicians (state and local) want you to think it is...
  8. Thoughts and prayers go out to this family. Such a tragedy after one of those great summer adventures...Dad and son at the ballpark. It should have been a lasting great memory for both father and son, now we can only hope and pray that that young boy will be able to overcome this tragedy and remember that his Dad loved him a great deal. One of the last things reported that the Dad said was to ask about his son. This is so sad on so many levels. May God grant this family peace.
  9. Watching this crap that is playing out in DC and in Austin the last few months has really disappointed me and made me even a bit more jaded toward politicians...all politicians it seems. Both sides seem to be interested in getting elected and re-elected rather than rolling up their sleeves and actually doing the "people's work". I don't care which side of the aisle you are on, it seems both sides are only interested in prolonging their political careers and bowing to the special interest groups that pay into their campaign coffers. Where are the real leaders and real representatives who don't give a darn about what some special interest group thinks of their vote one way or the other and who are willing to make the tough decisions and compromise when it is in the best interests of the nation and its citizens? This is getting to be all about posturing and the bully pulpit until the last second and then...gee...something gets done. We all know there will be an agreement on the debt ceiling issue...so, why do all the childish crap before really getting down to business and hammering out a compromise agreement that works? Seems to me that if our elected officials really had the citizens best interests in mind that this stuff would get done long before any potential crises developed. As much as I hate to say (as I am philosophically opposed to term limits for representatives and senators) it just may be time for term limits. That would, at least, limit the influence of some special interests as the folks being elected would know their time was limited...then the yahoos would have to come home and live under the laws they enacted while in office. Maybe I am just frustrated with the current state of affairs in DC and in Austin, probably so, but there is a severe lack of real leadership in both parties from the very top down these days...and it is clearly showing. Good grief, folks...get on with it and act like grownups for a change. OK, I feel better now...thanks. carry on......
  10. You know this how?
  11. You may be right, but even so, several other big Yankee hitters come to mind such as Joe D., Lou G., Mickey M., etc., etc. Someone tell me why this is worth negative points? If you are a baseball fan you have to acknowledge this feat by Jeter...likie him or not. Not many players reach 3000 hits. Nice...thanks.
  12. Go Tony! Go USA!!!!!
  13. I had no clue that no other Yankee in the history of that organization has ever reached the 3000 hit mark! With all the big hitters the Yankees have had over the years, who would have thought that Jeter would be the first to reach 3000? Well, not me at least, but I am sure some of the baseball folks on here may well have been aware. Just seems strange that over the years no other Yankee slugger had managed 3000. Good for Jeter. Congratulations.
  14. US women lose 2-1 to Sweden in the final group stage game. First group stage game loss by the US women...ever! Defense looked pretty poor today and the swedes kept the US forwards and midfielders pretty well tied up. At times the Swedes went by the US players as if they were standing still. Too bad, as now the US will most likely play Brazil in the quarterfinals this weekend. Tough game, but maybe the US can look at the film and re-group for the quarters. Still have a shot at winning the World Cup, but not if they play like they played today...get some rest ladies and come out smokin' against Brazil...USA...USA!!!!
  15. It IS the appropriate thing to do. His jersey number should be retired...and the sooner the better. No one has ever worn the colors of the Mean Green better on the men's basketball team then Kenny Lyons.
  16. Happy Birthday...make it a great one. Appreciate all your support for the Mean Green!
  17. Scott; Enjoy the day...you own it! Thanks for all your support of the Mean green! Have fun!
  18. You never cease to amaze me. I meant to say exactly what I said. Maybe you should go back and read it several times. I think if you really tried the meaning would come to you.
  19. May God bless this great nation of ours and bless all the men and women who stand guard day and night to keep us safe and free. While we enjoy celebrating the 4th, please take a few minutes to think of and say a prayer for all those in the service of this nation. There are no holidays for men and women on the front lines. Let us NEVER forget!
  20. Interesting concept, but I don't think it's the current MGC members who don't "care enough" to cover the scholarships. They ARE donating and they ARE doing what they can to help cover the costs of scholarships. What is needed is for a lot of the folks who are not MGC members and who do not donate to step up and help as best they can. It's not on the backs of the current members who are helping. It's on those who are not!
  21. And, anyone who believes your post wasn't a shot and negative, I have a bridge in Brooklyn I'd like to talk to them about buying. It is what it is, and it takes no intelligence at all to figure out your motives....usually critical and/or negative...but carry on. Look at the bright side, Silver, your negativeness is nothing unusual...see I said, bright side too. Funny, isn't it? "Funny", now how could that be negative, right?
  22. It was a shot at a bit of humor. Leave it to you to find something to be critical about. It must take a lot of energy.
  23. Well, we got the answer, and the answer was NO...no problem being 1-0 at half...nice sub in Rampone (spelling?) who scored in seconds after being inserted to open the second half. Well done, ladies...3-0 over Columbia. Now, on to a game against Sweden (it should be a tough contest), but whatever happens against Sweden, the U.S. is in the quarterfinals! GO USA!!!!
  24. 1-0 at halftime with the U.S. still controlling play, BUT Columbia is still in this thing and that is a problem. Too many missed chances for the U.S. Will it come back to hurt the U.S.? We'll see. GO USA! If the U.S. wins they are through to the quarterfinals!
