  1. The new ALUMNI PAVILION is set to open along with the new MEAN GREEN STADIUM on Sept. 10th. If I were capable I would post a photo of the pavilion, but each time I try GMG.Com tells me the file is too big...sorry. maybe someone else can help. The Pavilion will open three hours before game time on Sept. 10th (and for each home game) and will be open to the public for the first game. The 2000-square-foot pavilion will include space for 150 (inside...with plenty of additional room outside), three high-definition TV's, misting fans, food/beverage stations, etc. Six garage doors will convert the pavilion into an open-air facility and open up to the 3,200-square-foot outdoor patio with views of the stadium. Membership in the UNT Alumni Association will be required for entry to the pavilion for all games following the Houston game on September 10th. Alumni and friends can also renew or register for membership at the pavilion or purchase a temporary membership for $10 for entry into the pavilion for one day. The great news is that the Pavilion is 100% funded as far as construction is concerned. However, the association is still accepting contributions for on-going maintenance and other expenses. Contribution options are available starting at $100. Pavilion markers will continue to be reserved and installed on an on-going basis. For those who purchased markers (brick pavers) early, come out on the 10th and look for your paver. The Alumni Pavilion will be a great place to meet and mingle prior to games. In addition, the Alumni Pavilion will be available to host other events throughout the year. Hope to see you at the Pavilion before the Houston game on Sept. 10th. By the way...it's a bargain to join the Alumni Association. You can join for way less than the cost of guest memberships for the season. Join/renew your membership now and be ready to "Meet at the Pavilion" on September 10th! See you there. Now...can someone please post the photo?
  2. SWEET! I like these a lot...Oklahoma State will play before a packed house in Stillwater and will, at least, look good doing it! Now, hopefully, they can do some damage in the newly constructed Big 12...er 10! GO POKES!!!!! BEAT ZERO U!!!!!!!! But, most of all...and even better...GO MEAN GREEN & WHY NOT NORTH TEXAS INDEED!!!!!!! Wondering if the UNT uniforms will look anything like these...except in green, of course????
  3. Hey, don't steal my bit! I will tell you that no one will ever take you up on that deal....I still have the beer money available, but I've lost track of the number of invitees who have gone "radio silent" after the offer. What is it about beer that makes some run and hide?
  4. Sometimes you just have to shake your head and go on down the road...case in point, glick1980.
  5. I'm in...I'll write you a check on Tasty's account Saturday!
  6. Well, it seems inconsistency finally did Coach Bradley in, and he was fired as the head coach of the US National Men's team yesterday. Falling to Mexico (losing a 4-2 after leading by two goals) did not help his cause at all. His record was 43-25-12 in his five years...not all that bad for a US Men's team, but not at all what folks were hoping for when he was hired. BUT, this is pretty typical of the second four year stint for a US head coach. Seems that the teams respond to the "new blood" in the first four years and then tend to wander during the second. This was Bradley's start of his second 4-year term (not that coaches have to have a 4 year term) and his teams lacked intensity and consistency. Appreciate the job Bradley did, but recent results pointed to the need to go in a new direction. Good luck Coach Bradley and thanks for the work you did. USA! USA! USA!
  7. Quoner...I definitely took no offense, but did want to let everyone know how this was handled back in the "dark ages". Hope to see you at the Kickoff Cookout. GO MEAN GREEN!
  8. I think we all know who it effects...every single person in this great nation of ours who has worked, saved, taken capital risks, etc. to the extent that they have amassed a net worth above the estate tax threshold. That's why the "let's redistribute the wealth" folks love the tax so...they think it only applies to folks who are so rich that it doesn't matter. There is simply no, let me repeat that...NO...good argument for an estate tax...NONE!
  9. WOW...had no clue...HAPPY BIRTHDAY COACH MAC. May this year bring you happiness and success...especially on the field for the Mean Green! Really, though, glad you are leading the Mean Green. Happy Birthday! GO MEAN GREEN & WHY NOT NORTH TEXAS INDEED!!!!!!
  10. Just for every one's reference, I did not pay for this...I was nominated and then selected by my department and the university administration. I actually had no clue this was going on and was surprised when I got a call asking me to come and "pose" for this photo..all the folks listed were "nominated" by their various departments. There used to be a honors day each year on campus where the departments honored their top grads...each was presented with an award/certificate/whatever at an assembly...it may have been called "honors day"...but, it has been a couple of years. As I recall, the one I attended was in the old English building on campus. No, we did not pay for these listings and, yes, we were all nominated by our departments and through the administration for our campus-wide activities in addition to scholarship.
  11. You know folks, I'd give it a little time before I'd start complaining about what's in the store. The shop is just barely open to the public, UNT has not announced it's new uniforms as yet, Nike is just starting to work on UNT gear, etc., etc. and, to me, it's just a tad early to start the "it's not right" complaining. can we just cool the complaining and give it awhile to develop? PLEASE. Maybe just once, let's give the folks the benefit of the doubt that things will "perk up" a bit for all of us who love UNT gear...what do you say? Look, in a perfect world I'd have the thing chock full of replica UNT Nike jerseys, helmets, coach shirts, t-shirts, polos, baby gear, men's and women's hoodies, etc., etc. This "ain't" a perfect world. I doubt that Nike has it full speed ahead on UNT gear as yet. It will take a bit of time...as it will take a bit of time to work out the traffic flows, the tailgate set-ups, etc. Patience might just be a virtue here, and it will certainly keep one's blood pressure from going through the roof. It's all good...it's new...new is different...new takes some adjusting to and "settling in". And, don't forget...GO MEAN GREEN!
  12. Yep, that $1.00 lottery ticket is just the same as building an estate through a lifetime of hard work. And, sine you don't realize it, many families (some spanning generations) work in these businesses and on these farms for many many years...not just the founding member. Estate tax is simply a big money grab the folks in DC thought they could get away with because they would be taxing those "rich" people again, and you know, everyone who is rich never worked a day in their lives for all that money, never built a business, never employed anyone, never paid any taxes and never risked any of their own capital...they just inherited it or won the lottery. GET REAL. Someone sold you a pile of crap and you bought it! I have a friend whose family had to sell a business the family had owned for over 75 years just to pay the estate tax as all their resources were tied up in the business they started from scratch...and employed over 50 people (not all family members). This scenario is not rare as many small business owners have all their "wealth" (as do many family farms) tied up in their businesses and do not have the required cash to pay the estate tax when due...so, the business and farm goes to get the cash. Nice...this after paying taxes on the money used to build the business and on the earnings the business made all through the years. I really don't know what part of that you see as "fair" when it comes to the estate tax. The estate tax is simply hideous!
  13. WOW...it gets worse every time you post. So, now you think building family wealth, building a family business and creating a family farm, etc. is getting "something for nothing". Just where do you live? On Mars???? Don't think I ever said lottery winners should not be taxed, nor did I ever say people should not pay any taxes. But, to equate working one's entire life building a business, creating family wealth through savings and investments, running a family farm, etc. to winning the lottery is just plain ignorant of the facts of life. One spends a lifetime doing one and wakes up lucky one day in the other. Yep, that's exactly the same...nice analogy. Those in favor of wealth redistribution generally have none to distribute. Those generally in favor of tax increases are for them as long as someone else is the one paying the higher taxes. Simply amazing how that works.
  14. Silver...that's funny...those glasses are back in style!!!! Ha!
  15. Again folks, repeat after me, we do not have a revenue and tax problem in this country we have a SPENDING problem. At current taxation levels there is more than enough revenue to fund government services, pay our debts and maintain our credit rating. It's simply that the government continues to spend more than it takes in. STOP the spending and the issue goes away. Not hard, unless, of course, you failed Economics 101, never took it or don't care as many in DC have shown these last few months during this circus event currently talking place on the Hill these days. The takers are taking more than the givers seem to want to give! Imagine that. And, the takers want more money from those who are actually producing so they can give it to those who aren't. Nice. That will really fix things. And, no...no one is throwing grandma off the cliff!
  16. The estate tax is quite simply "double taxation" and is stupid on any level. It has caused many family businesses to close or sell, and many family farms to shut down because the heirs cannot pay the estate tax. A $5,000,000 estate tax exemption to way too SMALL, but it is better than nothing. Again we see here, someone who wants "other people" who have actually worked and built a business or family farm and who have acquired some wealth to give it to those who have not. Nice...how many ways can you figure out to redistribute wealth? Again, your statement is ridiculous, and it indicates that you have absolutely no clue how the estate tax works, why it was enacted in the first place, and the real damage it causes to families and businesses across this great nation of ours. I am puzzled as to why you singled out this horrendous tax to mention, but I am sure it is because you have never been affected by it nor understand how it works. Just saw "$5,000,000 tax exemption and George Bush" and jumped right on it as a good wealth re-distributor should. Again...Economics 101...it "ain't" that hard, but it escapes so very many people.
  17. Riduculus...can't think of any other comment about this post.
  18. Don't know for sure, but that is the time we have picked up our season tickets in prior years...AND...greenjoe posted that he has already picked up his tickets at the "new" ticket offices at Mean Green Stadium. If that's the case, and I am certain it is, then we should all be able to pick up our tickets Saturday. Can't wait...this is the "official" start of the 2011 season. Wear your Mean Green gear Saturday and let's have a great time. WHY NOT NORTH TEXAS INDEED!!!!!! GO MEAN GREEN!
  19. \NOW...these I like. Just ordered the set. I've been looking for this type of Mean green head cover for some time...thanks for finding and posting. GO MEAN GREEN!
  20. I like it.
  21. Welcome aboard, and thanks for joining the Alumni Association. I think you will find value in that membership, and it goes a long way in helping to promote UNT and provide scholarship dollars. Lots of ways to get more involved...if you want to discuss some options just PM me with your contact info and we'll discuss. Thanks again, it is great to have you on board GMG.Com and thanks for your support of UNT and the MEAN GREEN!
  22. Let me add my Birthday wishes to George as well. George is one of the long-time passionate Mean Green supporters and the Mean Green Nation is luck to be able to call George Derr one of their own. happy birthday, young fella...hope to see you at the Kickoff Cookout this saturday! Go get 'em!
  23. Not good, but "severance packages" and agreements to not discuss the firm are pretty common in the private sector. It's a way to basically fire someone without the threat of a lawsuit. Not saying I agree or disagree, but it's common in the business world, but that is private money and Denton is public taxpayer funds. That's a decent difference....
  24. Good things continue to happen for the Mean Green. Another good thing about this sort of thing is that it tends to bring other good news with it...that is, once these highly rated players start giving UNT a look-see more and more will do the same...much like the men's basketball program at UNT. The good news just keeps getting better and better for UNT these days. GREAT news...keep it coming. The Kickoff Cookout should be great fun indeed. GO MEAN GREEN & WHY NOT NORTH TEXAS INDEED!!!!!
