Calm down folks...the sky is not falling and we will all see the light of day come Monday morning. There is a theory that the markets had already priced this downgrade in as it has been known to be coming for many weeks if not months. Corporate earnings continue to be pretty strong and the US still has one of the very highest ratings in the world. Yes, we may see some volatility Monday morning, but it may not be as bad as some here seem to think. The challenge will come if everyone (see Saudi Arabia & China) holding US debt panics and opens up Monday in a selling mood. If that happens, yes, hide the women and children, but there is a lot of behind the scenes work going on and lots was done even before the downgrade. Anyway, most people sell at the wrong time and buy at the wrong time. Take that into consideration before you make any move. By the time the general public buys or sells it is often "after the fact" and at the absolute wrong time as all the "smart money" moved some time ago...one way of the other. But, the good news is that everyone gets to make their own call as it is their money. Unlike the crap DC is doing with "other people's money" these days.

Looks great. Should be the start of a great new tradition. It's plenty far enough away that anyone who runs in to it would probably have to be trying to run into it in the first place. Plenty tall enough for players to touch on the way to the field. How many opposing teams do anything to disrespect Clemson's rock? Very few and I doubt many will do anything to disrespect the eagle. If they do, should give the team plenty of reason to kick some rears come game time. Thanks so much to the Geezles...they did a great job fund raising for this project, and have helped to create a lasting tradition for UNT. Well done. Their willingness to help and to actually put their money and effort into a project rather than sit back and complain and let "someone else do the heavy lifting" is a credit to their love for UNT, their fraternity and its rich history and the members as individuals. Thanks so much. GO MEAN GREEN!

What Do You Think About Closed Practices?
KRAM1 replied to Mean Green 93-98's topic in Mean Green Football
Last time I was in Stillwater for a summer visit, the team's practices were open to fans for the first hour where the team did stretching and warm up exercises, some punt return work and a set drills in groupings of O-line, D-Line, D-backs, Running backs, etc., etc. After about an hour all spectators were asked to leave and the practice was closed. Not a bad "compromise", but for the most part and especially during fall practice, the practices were closed to fans, etc. at Oklahoma. BTW...speaking of OSU...Head Coach Gundy will completely miss OSU's fan day, media day and practice today as he will be out of town and out of state to watch his young son play in a championship baseball game. I just wonder what some of the GMG.com posters would say if Coach Mac had missed the Kickoff-Cookout last saturday? This closing of practice IS NOT uncommon and is not anything at all unique to UNT. This is Coach Mac's show...let him run it as he sees fit. Fans and alums need to do their part in support of Coach mac's efforts to improve this program. Brett Vito has been given good access to Coach mac and the team. I am sure Coach Mac will handle the media accordingly. GO MEAN GREEN! -
Appears that the players love the new uniforms. I think that is probably the more important view whether a few "fans" like them or not. Like so many things here on GMG.Com and in life in general, people are quick to criticize even before they have all the facts...in this case, even before they have personally seen them in person. I think the majority here have expressed satisfaction with the uniforms and certainly the team has (if reports from the team and players are to be believed...I think, yes). As has been said, you simply cannot please everyone. If the team feels good in these uniforms, that's all I need to know. However, put me down in the "I like" column. GO MEAN GREEN!
-
Correct sir...I think that is what was meant as well...thanks. Didn't know if it was some sort of "code" I hadn't figured out as yet. Wasn't trying to criticize at all. Thanks for the explanation...and, good grief to the injury...not good. Let's all hope and pray it is not a trend.
-
Like I said folks...wait until you see the full uniform...looks like we did, and looks like several of the earlier naysayers are coming around a bit...when you see it with the helmet as well, you will like it even better. This should make a bit of a case for not "bitching" before you actually know what you are bitching about! Ha! Just kiddin'...what would GMG.com be without the "usual suspects"? Unis look great...will look even "greater" on Sept. 10th! GO MEAN GREEN!
-
What is "Hurling fense"? Do you mean hurtling a fence? Seriously, I am just asking not trying to make funny or criticize.
-
Nice classic helmet. They will sure look good come game day when the team is all geared up. I like this classic look. I think it says that UNT is ready to play some classic rough and tumble football and is ready to let its play on the field be all the "glitz and glitter" needed. Doesn't let me down at all...I like. Can't wait to see the entire uniform in person. I'll bet it looks much better than these photos... Thanks for posting the photo...GO MEAN GREEN!
-
I like them because they are the jerseys the Mean Green will be wearing. I also think everyone will like them once they see them on the field come game day. They will also look really great on the player crossing the goal line with the winning score! Just give it a chance, wait and see them "live and in person", and then make an informed decision. As I seem to recall, the uniform is the head coach's decision, not the AD's. Patience my fellow Mean greeners...patice...see what you think on the players in full gear on game days. For me, I like...the fans at Alabama don't seem to have many challenges with the uniforms the Tide wear...I am thinking the Mean green faithful will come to like these as well. GO MEAN GREEN! And...thanks for posting the photos for those of us who couldn't attend.

debt deal
KRAM1 replied to eulesseagle's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Clearly the person who said he had all the answers. How's it working out for the nation? Unemployment still over 9% with tons of new layoffs announced, the stock market below where it was a year ago...at least as of yesterday had given up its entire gains for the year...capital formation at an all time low, Washington in virtual gridlock (that might actually be a good thing), the US near default for the first time in history, mega debt (largest in history coming after Obama elected), businesses not expanding due to worries over new taxes and regulations, a third "war" engaged in to strain the nation's already stressed military and available resources and funds...I could go on. Just doesn't seem to be the type of "change" most folks were promised they would get back in the heady days of the campaign. OK, waiting for the..."it's Bush's fault" chorus... -
Lifer...agree...and that "just win" thing has not done much for basketball attendance either. It's a "cultural thing" to not support UNT...just look at some of the posts from alums that we get here on GMG.com. Nothing is ever good enough, the athletic dept. cannot do anything right, the Alumni Assoc. has nothing to offer, it's always "what's in it for me", etc., etc. Until that mindset changes UNT can win the conference, go to the NCAA's in basketball and still they won't come. BUT, the great news is that the "stinkin' thinking" attitude displayed by such comments is changing and changing for the better. There will be more season tickets sold this season than ever before, there will be more fans, students and alums in that stands this year on average then ever before and there will be more members of the Mean green Club than ever before. While that still won't satisfy some, it is a move in the right direction. Some just cannot see all the good for the bad that they want to look for at every opportunity. It isn't perfect...the w/l record shows that, but it is time for the Mean Green faithful to rise up in support of this school and this program. Again, the good news here is that I do believe the faithful are stirring and the results of that are showing. Sept. 10th cannot get here fast enough! GO MEAN GREEN...WHY THE HECK NOT NORTH TEXAS INDEED!

debt deal
KRAM1 replied to eulesseagle's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
How's that "Change" working out for you now? Like what you see in your 401K, 403B, IRA, savings, etc. And, how about those great employment numbers? How's that "recovery" plan working out for you? Just wondering......who might get blamed this time. -
Because you didn't invite her. It's open to anyone who wants to play and support the scholarship effort. Give her a call next time and invite her...she may just not be a GMG.com'er and didn't know...or maybe she didn't see our Facebook page. Invite her and she may come next year. GO MEAN GREEN PS...I thought the segment with Coach mac was great and VERY good PR. This stuff just has to help ticket sales and overall positive views of UNT. Great to hear them say that the interviewer was a UNT alum as well. You just have to believe that things are looking really good for the Mean green these days. GREAT PR for UNT overall.

Yes, more to come in the near future...stand-by!

Quote for the Day
KRAM1 replied to KRAM1's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Obviously, figures can lie...a 9% unemployment rate has absolutely nothing to say about the actual "count" of people working. Fuzzy math, indeed! And, is missing the point entirely "fuzzy comprehension"????? -

No, just for certain thread hijackers.... -
Nice poster...and thanks for letting us know about the Aug. 19th exhibition game. I'll have to try to make that game. GO MEAN GREEN...GO UNT SOCCER!!!!!!!

Stand by...more to come! Thank you, Mr. Voertman. Your generous donation will help UNT and UNT students for years and years to come. Makes me even happier that I purchased all my textbooks from Voertman's and spent countless dollars on gifts and supplies there as well over many years. Great store guided by generous and caring people. Many thanks. This will also help bring more sizable donations to UNT. This sort of thing seems to create other like minded opportunities. GREAT things are truly happening for UNT these days. GO MEAN GREEN!

Excellent reply, UNT90. +1 for you, sir. Yes, the new Alumni pavilion should help ease the pain for some of losing the deck, but the Pavilion will close 30 minutes prior to kickoff and will not be open at halftime nor after the games. At least that is the scheduling right now. Also, remember that the Mean green Room for basketball games should still be operating prior to basketball games and that is a great bargain and benefit for those who join the Mean Green Club at the designated level. There are plenty of benefits to joining the Mean Green Club and they appear to be growing as the program gets ramped up and as it builds members. But, as UNT90 states, the best benefit to being a member of the Mean green Club is knowing that you are helping to provide scholarship money for the athletes who represent UNT. GO MEAN GREEN!

Just win baby! GO MEAN GREEN...well, tomorrow we should all know and can stop speculating...it's Media day tomorrow, so I guessing that we might just get to see the new uniforms. What do you think?
-
Anonymous: "The problems we face today are there because the people who WORK for a living are outnumbered by those who VOTE for a living". Just something to ponder on a hot summer day before the start of two-a-days when we can all start talking about something much more important...MEAN GREEN FOOTBALL! So...go Mean Green!

KRAM1 replied to Dr. Seuss's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Too bad...obviously this person has absolutely ZERO self respect. I do hope she has learned a very valuable lesson here, and will decide that she is better than this and will move forward. Very sad for her, her family, etc., etc. Why do some people think stuff like this is a good idea to put out in the public? Is she still employed at UNT? -
Excellent...I may propose to my bride again just so I can have a reception in the Club Level area. Is that thing great or what? YEP, lots of interest in renting the facility from the local business community as well...not even mentioning all the private parties and weddings/receptions being considered for the space. Congrats to those who have already talked about using the facility for their receptions/wedding/parties, etc. GREAT venue and GREAT idea! GO MEAN GREEN!

NT Daily Video New Mean Green Stadium & BBQ
KRAM1 replied to All About UNT's topic in Mean Green Football
Excellent. To see and hear the pride of the grads in that video was amazing. For all too long many UNT grads seemed to discount THEIR university as if it were some second class citizen in the realm of universities...both athletically and academically. But, those times are over! The progress that UNT is making in the classroom academically, within the research community, with facilities (have you seen the new business building as well as this new stadium?), and now with some major league sized donations is simply amazing. If any alum, student or any other person believes UNT is not a major player they are simply ignorant of the facts. I hope all members of the Mean green Nation will now wear their green proudly and strongly. No more, no more...the future is NOW! Show your support for the progress UNT is making by joining the Alumni Association, joining the Mean Green Club, buying season tickets, supporting your academic department with scholarship money, etc., etc. Do what you can...only what you can...but, please, do something to help this great university that is UNT! GO MEAN GREEN & WHY NOT NORTH TEXAS INDEED! -
OK, maybe everyone else already knows this, but my bride told me last evening that Coach Mac's Radio Show will be at Rudy's BBQ this year. For me, I love this move, and will hope the acoustics, etc. work well. I like the BBQ at Rudy's and this the location will lend itself to much more mingling and interaction between the Coach/Coaches/Staff and Mean green fans...and between fans themselves. PLUS...Rudy's supports the Mean Green. So, is this news to anyone else? I'll also wager that the crowds are larger this season and that the shows are a bunch more fun and entertaining. Good news...GO MEAN GREEN!
