Well, you almost had me until you said "transform an also ran into a national title contender". Seems to me one's team would have to at least win a conference championship before being considered a national title contender. Again, wake me up when Leach wins something. You will recall that Coach Dodge graduated students and ran a clean program...he certainly was not a jerk. So, in your analogy, do we keep Coach Dodge? Ok, he didn't have a winning record at UNT, I get that. Lots of winning coaches are not jerks...they may have big egos, but they certainly are not jerks.

Ticket update for UNT/Houston opener
KRAM1 replied to TheColonyEagle's topic in Mean Green Ticket Exchange
Well, if that is true (does Ticketmaster always give out the "best available? I've often wondered about that after i get tickets through them and then go to the event and see the empty seats in better locations) it is a great thing. The first game definitely has the look of a sell-out. How great would that be? I am hopeful that the vast majority of tickets are being purchased by the great Mean Green Nation. -
Hmmmm.NO! The guy is a jerk...whether the 60 min. episode was before or after the James episode, it matters not in the primary argument. That big hat of yours is falling down over your eyes, so I don't imagine you would "get" the basic tenor of the argument. Go ahead and ignore the 60 min. part, it doesn't change a thing and certainly doesn't change my opinion of the guy or his coaching abilities. I believe I stated that it was my opinion. I guess you missed that as well...that big hat is certainly a challenge. Really, the guy isn't even worth this much discussion. Wake me up when he gets another head coaching job and actually wins something. Until that time, I think I'll just ignore Leach threads. Not worth the time or effort.

Good God man! It's a gift...it's not based on any level of giving...it's a gift. Are you going to be the wrinkled $100 bill guy because you got a gift you probably didn't even expect? Let's just gold plate the things and spend all the money donated on gifts instead of trying to cover the costs of athletic scholarships that is the stated intent of the program. Flyer..is this really you or did someone hijack your Avatar?

You need tickets to plan for tailgating? Really? Seems lots of folks have already started planning tailgating activities. Maybe you mean near which lot due to your parking situation...that I get, and agree that I would love to have that settled as soon as possible. But, completely disagree that the AD folks have forgotten the fans. In fact, there have been more fan friendly events this season that ever before...and this whole bit of a delay just might be due to the fact that they had to wait on the Apogee Stadium deal to be finalized before they actually printed the tickets (the season tickets not the single game tickets that are always much more generic). Not trying to stir things up, but I can guarantee you that folks in the Athletic dept. are not holding meetings about how they can "not look after the fans". There are times that things are taking place behind the scenes that are just not apparent to those who are charged with dealing with things on a day to day basis. Does anyone really think the AD folks want to stall in getting parking passes and tickets out to their season ticket holders? When we are less than a week out and we still don't have tickets or parking passes...well, if that happens...then we can panic! Until then...patience folks patience.

Court of Appeals & Obamacare
KRAM1 replied to KRAM1's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Good discussion here folks, but...once again...the question before the courts in not about health care, it is a Constitutional issue regarding mandates. Plain and simple....repeat after me...it is a Constitutional Issue...It is a Constitutional issue. The health care entitlement program issue will be decided at a later date with much riding on how the Supreme Court rules. And that ruling may not come for some time in the future. The Supreme Court works on its own schedule. Not the schedule Congress might like and not Obama's schedule or mine or yours. Patience...all in good time. -
What...you mean your brother had never heard of the guy? Wait, I thought everybody knew about the greatness of Mike Leach? How could he not have known about Leach? According to this thread...everybody knows Leach. He's a big deal, right? Remind me again where he is head coach today? Or assistant coach? Remind me again about all the great championships he had won before Tech canned him? I just don't get the love affair with this guy, his antics or his mediocre coaching record. If you want a media darling hire Paris Hilton or Snookie or Leach. Egos all about equal so it's a toss up. And, each has won the same number of football championships. If you want a head football coach to be more concerned about building a championship college football program, well, I'll take Coach Mac. But, that's just my opinion. Wake me up when Leach has a coaching job and we'll see how he does. I wish him well...somewhere else.

Me too. But, it's much more fun to give the +1's.
-
WOW...great stuff. Every time I hear that guy speak, I am more and more convinced that RV hired the right guy at the right time for UNT.
-
Again, football related, how? Again...great news, but folks let's get these topics in the threads they belong in or let's just do away with the separate threads. PLEASE and thank you. Saying it is great news but wishing it were in the proper thread is worth a -1 form someone, really? Thanks...nice. Show yourself if you dare!

Georgetown vs. China
KRAM1 replied to UNTflyer's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Was that a Mean green fan I saw in the stands as the Georgetown team was exiting the court?????? -
OK, how does Tasty get to keep throwing the bombs out without having to collect his +1's and -1's as a mod? I thought once you became a mod you had to tone it down and only be nice and neutral. If that's not the case I am going to start lobbying to be a mod and then I can really have fun without fear of retribution. HeHe!

No really, Leach just sucks! As a person of questionale character and as a coach whose ego far outstrips his ability as a coach as demonstrated by his book, his lawsuit, his 60-Min. interview his handling of the entire "player episode", and his team's lack of championships, etc. Strictly my opinion, of course. Would he benefit the SBC? Maybe. That remains to be seen and is entirely speculation at this point. If he wants to coach again, good for him, and I am more than fine with that as long as it is not at any school that I care a darn about. The guy's a clown and always will be in my book until he proves otherwise...which I don't think will be anytime soon. His ego will keep that from happening. Look, the folks at Tech tired of his antics and his "I am above it all and you don't control me" attitude and they took steps to shed themselevs of the guy the first chance they thought they had. Sometimes you just have to rid yourself of a toxic personality that seems to infect the entire organization. Tech did that...they probably knew the guy would sue them, but they felt it was worth it to rid themselevs of the guy. Perhaps Tech knows more about Leach than most...and from an up close and personal perspective. The "last straw" was not the first embarrassment Leach had brought on Tech, and the administration knew it would not be the last. If some other school is willing to take on the risks of hiring a guy who has a mediocre at best coaching record and who has tried to lay waste to his last school in print and in the courts, then good for them. I wish them well and will be glad he is someone else's headache. Everyone is free to like or dislike the guy. Me, I'm not a fan!

Other than the "Max" thing, I cannot believe that I am agreeing with you and that I actually gave you a +1, but I am and I did! What is this world coming to?

Got the same card and the web address worked just fine for me...Have no clue why there would be different web addresses. Does the web address have your name in it? My card was "personalized"...maybe it has something to do with the way your name was listed? I am just grasping at straws here as I know not about such things, but it worked fine for me. Anyone else have any problems?

BOR approves $1 million I-35E pedestrian bridge
KRAM1 replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
Good to see this moving forward. The price tag does seem high, but with all the "impact studies", right of way testing, safety issues, etc., etc. that are required for such things these days it adds up fast. Who knows it will probably have to be completely covered to keep the one in a million idiot from jumping or falling off...makes it more expensive than it would otherwise have to be...or they will have to cover it to keep some idiot from getting on it and throwing rocks at the passing cars beneath it...these things cost money...too bad, but true. Just glad to see the walkway getting traction and moving forward so it can be in place for the 2012 season...I hope...I hope! With the walk-way in place, Fouts field might just be the best parking option going. Sept. 10th is going to be GREAT! -
Will we actually sell out the Houston game?
KRAM1 replied to kingwoodgreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Well, not a bad problem to have, but I don't see UNT turning students away. There may, however, come a time when students will have to line up to get tickets on a first come first served basis and some may not want to bother. many schools require their students to purchase, yes, purchase, student tickets on top of the fees they already pay for athletic fees...including stadium costs. That day may come at UNT and it would be a great thing if demand were that high. Let's just start with a sellout Sept. 10th and see where it takes us all...it is going to be a great ride! -
Or sometime close to the time Florida won the national championship with McCarney on staff. If having your coach on 60-Minutes (or any other news outlet) because he has filed a lawsuit against your university and he is a clown instead of having him on because he won a championship is your idea of a "name" coach well, OK. Sort of like Bernie Madoff is a "big name" because he hit 60-minutes I guess. I do agree with SUMG and the others who think Leach's name is "recognizable". I really don't think that's the issue here. But, it's recognizable for the wrong reasons...you don't hire a football coach because he sues your school or because he is clown enough to get on 60-Minutes for doing do...you want a Coach with integrity and the ability to raise your program to higher standards and increasing win totals. I fully believe that UNT hired the right guy at the right time. I watched closely what Coach Mac did at Iowa State and I watched his teams beat OSU for the first time in forever. Since he left, OSU has taken Iowa State to task once again. I see Coach mac doing the same thing and with professionalism and class for UNT that he did for Iowa State.

Welcome home, Patrick...great to have you back! Come by the new Alumni Pavilion and check it out on game day...it's open to all!
-
Really...seriously, is there a way to get a bottle of this? I would love to have one as a commemorative of the first game. If so, PM me and I'll get whatever the cost might be to you ASAP. Great looking label...well done, Sir!
-
This is really great news. UNT needs a real "home field advantage" that it never seemed to have at Fouts with the field being as far away from the stands as it was...now, that is going to be different at Apogee Stadium. The Mean green brigade can play a big role in helping to create that home field advantage...great news, indeed!

Court of Appeals & Obamacare
KRAM1 replied to KRAM1's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Apprecite the fact the sources were listed...especially that always so friendly to the United States U.N. stuff. The vast majority of everything listed here as something "wrong" with the United States can be refuted and explained rationally. Too much effort to try to get folks to understand that this sort of "stuff" just is so biased in its research as to be comical...I suppose now you'll want to quote that famously unbiased site Snopes.com. -
Remind me again how many championships Leach recorded as head coach or assistant? I think the homer here is Leach himself...he's a PR machine for himself and his over sized and overrated ego. And, again...Maryland took a pass on the guy and no other college at any level has hired the guy...so, not everyone thinks he's a great coaching prospect. If you are looking for a guy to give your Brett Vito's of the world a good quote, well, Leach may be your guy...until Leach has won something he's simply another big mouth also ran in my book and one with an ego that doesn't match his output. Also, I doubt you'd get many Big XII or SEC coaches touting Coach Dodge right now as a head coach at a D-1 school. Hopefully, again soon, but probably not right now. We've had this Leach is great...Leach is not great stuff here several times...I think it's time some folks get over Leach and let the man pat himself on the back as he is so prone to do. Proud to be a "homer" for the Mean Green!

Looks like the map created more questions than it answered for some, but I think I found my exact route in and out. FFR has a great point...you might just want to park at Fouts and walk over for the first few games until all this gets sorted out. Fouts parking will be tons closer than parking at most D1 stadiums during game days...closer than parking across Central Expwy for SMU, closer than the 1 mile + walk to get to OU's stadium, closer than one would park at Iowa (according to a well placed source...never been there myself), closer than you would get at Oklahoma State, and on and on and on. Maybe some would have closer parking at these places with multi-thousand dollar donations or game day paid spots, but parking at Fouts is free, right? Even with parking spots assured, Fouts just might be a great option. getting out should be easier as well for the first few games. Good suggestion FFR. The "good news" is that this will all get sorted out in due time...so, patience folks, patience...enjoy the ride as it's to a brand new beautiful stadium.
