  1. Welcome to the crowd. hard to imagine why all the negativity continues, but some folks just cannot help themselves. It's pretty easy to figure out who will always find the "negative side" of almost everything that is UNT. They generally refer to it as realism or being realistic, but really, it's just being negative. There is ALWAYS something positive to be gained from college athletics...if nothing else, it's fun to watch...win, lose or draw. If you can't find something positive from being on a college campus on a fall afternoon or evening, watching two teams battle it out on the field, then you probably never will be able to find anything positive in most anything. Doesn't mean you have to "enjoy" a loss, just means that you might want to keep it in a bit of perspective and focus on the enjoyable parts of the experience. There were probably many more enjoyable experiences than negative ones...just focus on those. If you cannot enjoy yourself at all unless your team wins, then you probably don't need to be going to sporting events of any kind as you will surely be disappointed from time to time. It's just one perspective.
  2. Student 8001 would learn a great lesson that students at many other D1 schools learned long ago (as they have been using this same system for student tickets for eons) and that is...get your ticket on time and early or risk being Mister 8001 and left outside to ponder why he was so lazy. Go ask the students at each of the three other universities I attended and see what they say and how they make sure they are not "Mister 8001" or whatever the number is at that school. In fact, they too pay an athletic fee, have to line up for tickets ahead of game day...AND at two of the three have to BUY the tickets as well. Should be no problem for any UNT student wanting to attend if they were at all even remotely paying attention. For way too long no value was assigned to attending games if one were a UNT student. Thus, students didn't attend in any great numbers (even in the Fry days and even in the years of the New Orleans Bowl...same for men's basketball to this day at UNT). This system, the new stadium and the new coaching staff will change all that for the better. "Change" is not always easy, but it is often the result of a lot of hard work to improve one's product. So, easy answer...don't be Mister 8001...that's all. If 8001 shows up...it would actually be a very good thing. When was the last time 8000+ students showed up to attend a football game at UNT?
  3. Well, plain and simple, this was tough. Could be first game jitters from the players AND the coaching stff. But, frankly, I expected better from both. Am I going to cry and piss and moan, no, but I did expect a more creative game plan on offense, better tackling and a bit better play by the freshmen and from our QB. This is going to be a learning process and Coach Mac and Co. Has some work to do, but all is not lost. I still see a 5 win season, not sure about that 6 and 6 thing any longer, but folks, it is not time to panic. We all remember that first game of the Dodge era inNorman. Well, this was bad, but not that bad, and we have the Coaching staff to make faster corrections in both scheme and personnel. Let's all realize what this was and stay the course. It may get even worse before it gets better this season, but it will get better. Book it Danno!
  4. Got to love that kid! he knows a good team helmet when he sees one...glad Dad had one around to grab! I'll bet he would have tried to play without one if he could have...Can UNT sign him to a "future's" contract now?
  5. Surely this cannot be the end of it? That one game suspension for the QB will really show 'em! Seriously, this can't be the end of the NCAA investigation, right? I assume this is just the first shot across the bow and needed to be handled before the first game, but a more rigorous investigation is till underway, right> tell me so....if not, the NCAA has shown itself once again to be a toothless tiger when it comes to the Big Boys! Say it isn't so, Joe!!!!
  6. GOT MY TICKETS IN THE MAIL TODAY!!!!!! Yippeee, it's game time! Well, close anyway. And, are you ready for it...drum roll please...the packet included written tailgate instructions along with other parking and general info. Now, if folks will just read and follow the directions it should be OK. Are all questions answered? Most certainly not. How in sam hill could anyone anticipate all the questions that might be asked and all the situations that may arise? No way...even if they did, someone would come up with a new one the second they answered all the others, and then a chorus of "it's not fair", "that's not what they told me", etc., etc. will fill the GMG.com airwaves! Book it Danno! Thus, my thought to "chill out", go with the flow for the first couple of games and see how it goes. I think Flyer said something about this is the way it goes in the Big Time...you cannot please everyone and no matter what you do, some won't like it. And, so many people are asking so many different people the same questions, that there are bound to be conflicting stories. Is that the athletic department's responsibility...probably. Might should have directed all such questions to a single point person, but sure as they did that GMG.com would explode with a bunch of posts about how the point person was not being responsive. hard to win in this kind of situation. BUT, the written rules are out...follow them and you will probably have no problems...do something different and who knows what might happen, but the rules are there. And, your tickets and parking passes are on the way....hey, it's the US post office after all...give it a few days!
  7. Thanks...and in technicolor as well. Patience grasshopper...as you may have said yourself to a previous post or two...all in due time! How do you do this loud yelling in color stuff through GMG.Com? I like it!
  8. So very sorry to have offended you with my question, Bill. And, as I stated it was simply a question and I wasn't trying to be offensive. I thought we had been all over the tailgating stuff on numerous occasions, and was wondering what might possibly be left. If that is a touchy subject and worthy of the -1's and rebuke from you then I am so very sorry I offended. And, no way I could answer it yes or no as I don't have my tickets as yet. I'll be sure and come back here with a simple yes or no as soon as I do have the tickets. But, to be clear with an answer to your question...no I am not on the payroll. I'll have to reply to Flyer's technicolor post after this one.... Seems to me that some are more confused than others as several I have talked to are ready to go and seem to have no real questions until they see how it goes come game 1. But, for those who think every little question can be answered to every one's individual satisfaction ahead of time...even though no one has ever tailgated at the new stadium nor have they tried to set rules for same at the new stadium before...well, good luck with that. Ever tried to herd cats? Well, that's what it is going to be like for the first game in lots of areas...best thing is to try to get there as early as possible, remain calm, follow the directions of folks with guns on their hips, and enjoy yourself. It will not all go perfect. You can count on that. Sorry if any one here thinks you can plan away every issue. Nice if it were true, because what might be OK with Silver...may not be OK with Flyer. By the way, Silver...sent you an email about the tie. Did you get it? I would PM you but can't get a PM to you through the system. Maybe your box is full.
  9. And any info on the helmet stickers?
  10. I thought we had been all over that here on the board many times...what's left you need to know? Really, not being nuts here, just asking. I have talked to several tailgaters who have their plans all set. At least they think they do...arrival time, location, take down time, getting stuff to and from...all set or so they say. If they are comfortable and have their plans set, what is left to figure out? Really, seriously, just asking. Seems all the questions have been asked and answered...well, those that can...I would imagine that it will all work itself out by the end of the 3rd home game. Patience, grasshopper, patience (someone said that to me and it seemed appropriate to repeat here). Edit: Thanks...one asks a legit question and some yahoo gets all puffy about it!
  11. I didn't know there was any sort of debate...Scott Hall and Brandon "Booger" Kennedy are locks for the Hall of Fame. The only question is when, and for me it is past time...so, any year now and the sooner the better!
  12. UNT as an independent in football=not a good idea.
  13. Absolutely super job. Thanks so much!
  14. Well, if it's Houston...even the Alumni Association is a "random group of fans". OK, just kidding with ya! Welcome to Denton. Spend lots of money!
  15. You might just want to hang around the bar area next time. We did that once to hear a bit of the music after giving up our table to some waiting guests and it turned out fine for us...several others just hanging out in that area and listening to the music as well. Can get a bit crowded, and we didn't stay all that long, but it worked just fine. You might give that a try next time.
  16. I was told by the owner of Rudy's last evening that a group of Houston fans has "reserved" the place for their "meet up spot" before the game on Sept. 10th. OK, so, they invade out turf where UNT holds its weekly radio show. WHAT????? Ok, I definitely do not "blame" Rudy's as that will be a good "payday" for the place and mostly out of town money for the tax coffers of Denton. See, the new stadium is already paying off for the local business community and citizens. But, we need to get more Mean Green flags, banners, and "stuff" on the walls at Rudy's before that date. The owner said he would hang up any and all Mean Green items. So, if anyone has something to add to the decor...get it up there NOW! And, a big thank you to the Rudy's ownership...unlike the guys at the Pourhouse...these guys at Rudy's GET IT! The owner has purchased Club Seats and I believe he also said he purchased some bowl level seating as well...he is a Mean green Club Member also. Looks like the BBQ folks in Denton "get it"...Metzler's has long been supporters, ticket buyer's, Mean green Club members, etc., and now we see that Rudy's is also right there in support for the Mean Green. So, if you are going to eat BBQ in Denton...try to make it Rudy's or Metzler's and tell them why you are there...1) because the BBQ is great and 2) BECAUSE THEY SUPPORT THE MEAN GREEN! Trivia Question: Who were the first two players mentioned by Coach Mac last evening? Drum roll please............our two Deep Snappers Blake Dunham and Troy Kokjohn. Coach mac said Troy was the best deep snapper in the conference and that he wouldn't trade him for any other deep snapper! Said Blake was a great back-up and shopuld be great going forward. Nice to see the props for the special teams guys...especially since both dads were in attendance. It was a fine night at the radio show last evening...saw a lot of great members of the Mean Green Nation and got to hear Coach Mac again! EXCELLENT!
  17. Hey, sorry, Rudy...you left to go chat with some of the Mean green Club folks, so i thought we were "done". My bad...happy to continue that conversation any time. Good to see you, as always, and happy you made it to the show.
  18. Hmmmmm...sorry, I just very briefly skimmed it as I am going to be there in person. Thought I saw something about an archive of the broadcast or a late replay. Must read much closer next time...I wonder if Harry can hook up a reply for later listening pleasure for those who can't be available to hear it live? Might be worth a PM to harry. Sorry if I got your hopes up. Bummer!
  19. Check out the Mean Green Club blast email that Jon Burkett sent out this afternoon...there may be hope for you! I did not read that entire item as I will probably be attending in person, but check it out. There may be good news for you...and others in your same situation.
  20. Agree...but then again, as a proud member of the Mean green nation, I have never laughed at North Texas! I have, however, laughed WITH UNT & several other members of the great Mean Green Nation from time to time. Big difference.
  21. Coaches show tonight...YES! OK, but let's not forget my adopted player...OUR STARTING DEEP SNAPPER.....drum roll please....TROY KOKJOHN! I always wish they would announce the special teams as well although I know many of the players on the special teams are sort of "fluid" from week to week, but we do have some regulars...like punter, place kicker, holder & deep snapper. These guys are "starters" or "first teamers" as well....at least in my book. "I love me some special teams". It has been sort of a tough love the last few years, but I am thinking this year our special teams will make a positive difference in the outcome of some close games.
  22. Happy Birthday...I see it is one of the biggies for you...40, I believe, Sir. Don't worry, it's great to be 40...I think I can remember that far back! It's your day...make it a great one, and thanks for all you do for the great Mean Green nation.
  23. I received our basketball season ticket renewal form in the mail last week. Renewal deadline is September 20, 2011. The good news is that this means basketball season is just around the corner. I know the excitement of the new football season is building, and I am right there in that as well, but this little notice in the mail means that Mean green basketball is not far behind. Like football, this is going to be a very exciting year for the Mean green nation in basketball. Renew early to make sure you have your seats and PLEAE encourage others you know who might be interested in purchasing season tickets for the upcoming season. You will not want to miss this one!
  24. Nope. I have seen several others...they can hardly even be called cannons. There is no doubt that boomer is the best and finest in the land. Boomer is also the only one in Texas to make "Texas Monthly's" list of the best traditions in college football. Really, one of a kind. Some "imposters" may try to make the claim, but simply "imposters" they are. Boomer is the finest in the land.
  25. Unfortunately, these sort of games don't do much get get the team ready for the season. Sure, a few players get to see some playing time that might not have, and you can say that is a good thing, but if UNT is to maintain it's history of challenging for the conference crown and getting to the NCAA's, then these sort of games need to be a thing of the past. Interesting to me that Coach Hedlund scheduled these "soft" games, but I don't know what challenges he had with the schedule this year. Yes, fun was had by all on the UNT side, but I doubt much was accomplished and I see these "pre-conference" games as a means to prepare the team for the season ahead. Not as a "let's see how many goals we can score against these undermanned and far less capable" teams. Sorry, it's time (in my opinion) to play teams that are as good or even ranked higher than the Mean Green in the "pre-season" games. Fun, indeed, but "fun" might not prepare the team for the conference schedule ahead. BUT, this soccer guy loves any UNT win and it was a win, indeed. I am looking fir good things from the team this season...and I think we'll see them compete for the conference crown again this season. GO UNT...go ladies!
