  1. RV absolutely made the correct call on this. BTW...good post UNT90!
  2. The Denton Chapter has often hosted watch parties in Denton County for both football and basketball games. Unfortunately, for this Saturday, several of our members are out of town or otherwise committed. And, we have been extremely busy with additional projects this fall. If anyone would like to join our little band of merry warriors and help us with these events, I would love to hear from you. We could do so much more if we had more volunteers. I will personally be representing the Denton Chapter in Lafayette at the game, so I cannot help at Rudy's this time. But, the Denton Chapter has hosted watch parties this year at Rudy's in Denton. Rudy's is a great partner for UNT, and should have our support as well. So, if you are close and want to enjoy the game with fellow members of the Mean green nation, please show up at Rudy's and enjoy the beer, BBQ and fellow members of the great Mean Green Nation! PLEASE PM me if you are interested in joining the small group of merry warriors who have been organizing and hosting these events in Denton County for the last 5 years or so. We would definitely love to have you!
  3. This! Hurting attendance my rear end. What's hurting attendance is apathy built up over many many years and a "tradition" of UNT students and alums not supporting athletics at UNT. I would LOVE for beer to be sold at Apogee, and I would be a purchaser, but the idea that beer or lack thereof has anything significant to do with attendance is just plain wrong. I tire of all the excuses (and that is exactly what it is) for people not attending games...from the no-reentry rule to the no beer sales...let's see...why was attendance bad at Fouts? They sold beer and they allowed exit and re-entry. How many sold out games at Fouts? What was the average attendance? Come on people, your lame excuses are beginning to sound like a broken record. Lots of opportunity to drink as much beer as you want before the games at tailgating. I LOVE a good cold beer, anyone who knows me at all can tell you that, but it has ZERO...NADA...NIL...ZILCH to do with the enjoyment I get from a UNT football game. If the only reason you can find for attending the game is that you can buy a beer during the game...and if you can't you will not come...well, you might have a bigger problem to deal with on your hands. Good grief, people, at least find a new and creative EXCUSE for not attending...these old ones are getting pretty lame. At least be creative! I'd support the sale of beer at Apogee, and I hope it is eventually sold in the stadium for a variety of reasons, but it isn't right now. Come enjoy UNT football at the beautiful new Apogee Stadium now and when they do start selling beer we can all read the posts from the people who will no longer attend because they do sell beer! Trust me, it will happen.
  4. Beer sells for $5 in the Club Level...not $4...but I believe it is in a pint can not 12 ounce cans.

I would have absolutely ZERO problem with UNT scheduling UTSA in football. Could even turn into that rival game in a few years that everyone seems to be missing. Heck, we have Southern on the schedule for next season...why not UTSA? Bring 'em on. Good travel distance and if UNT plays in San Antonio in a few years it makes for a great weekend.
  6. We checked with the Rudy's in Denton. They indeed WILL be telecasting the Mean Green game Saturday.
  7. It doesn't matter what time the game is scheduled for or what other activities are happening at the time...some folks will just complain and see it as the AD's fault. Heck, schedule it in the afternoon and folks complain that it messes with their kids sports activities or that it is too early for them to get to Denton, or their "other" college is playing a day game and that is more important than the UNT game (See TX - OU excuse), some will say the sun will be too hot on the student side, and on and on and on. Play it at its scheduled time and you get the "it's the World Series" crowd complaining...or any number of other reasons...too late for the kids, the students would rather be in Dallas, there is a concert, etc., etc. Seems like we need some wrinkled $100 bills here..... Can't win...PLAY THE GAME AS SCHEDULED! It's not like people haven't known what time the game is for several months now, and it is homecoming. Lots of morning, daytime and evening activities centered around homecoming...I believe there is a Hall of Fame Breakfast, Fraternity and Sorority morning and afternoon gatherings, a parade, travel arrangements and plans for the visiting team and on and on. If the Mean Green doesn't mean enough to you to get your rear in the stadium...well, enjoy the World Series. After all, those professional teams need your support so badly and certainly know who you are since you mean so much to them. All about priorities folks, but we have been down this road before and it was only the first round of the playoffs. See you at Homecoming on the 22nd!
  8. I'd take Coach Mac for UNT right now over anyone on that list. Beat LaLa!
  9. So sad...so very sad.
  10. I'd take Leavitt over Leach in a heartbeat and never look back.
  11. FAU will need to build up a "buy out/legal defense" war chest if they hire Leach. It's only a matter of time with that guy. He gives pirates a bad name!
  12. Boxer Briefs
  13. Check with drex...send him a PM. He might have an idea for you.
  14. And...so is UNT for that matter. I cannot believe I am agreeing with you, but SMU is, indeed, trying to look out for its own best interests...just as TCU did in accepting the Big East invite (and working hard to get that invite in the first place) and then shunning the Big East the very first opportunity they had to "move up" to the Big XII. Where's all the self-interest and "the way they went about it" talk regarding TCU on this board? This stuff doesn't make SMU or TCU or UNT for that matter, good or bad. It is simply the business...big business...of college athletics these days. I wish it were not so and that sportsmanship and ones word still meant something, but it seems to not be so any longer in the case of "realignment".
  15. Other than the childish replies regarding "shart", this is a most inspiring thread. Too bad it took a bit of a "turn" to silliness, but if you look at what folks are saying here, it seems that UNT football is BACK! The games are fun, and the stadium is a pleasure indeed. I really want to thank everyone who is bringing friends to the game, other "wayward" alums and just fans of college football. It seems that once people step inside Apogee, they want to return. We have all waited a good many years for this "return". let's keep bringing friends and alums...I asked my brother to go last week (bride was out of town and brother is a grad who hasn't probably ever been to a UNT game. Alas, he said "no", but I'll keep working on him. Thanks to everyone who is working hard to help fill Apogee. Great stories folks...very positive and very inspiring.
  16. USA was lucky the game was rained out! UNT was about to put some big time hurt on them!
  17. Agree 100%. And, not only that, he supports the entire program and UNT. I see him at so many different UNT sponsored events and games that I have come to expect that he will be there and doing what he can to support UNT.
  18. Question...so if you guys party so much, why in the world does the Cajun mu8sic festival close at 7PM on a Saturday night? Game time is 4PM...would be great to trek over after the game, but the website I saw said it closes at &PM on SATURDAY night? Did I miss the fine print about partying???? Or, did I just misread the time schedule?
  19. Pretty much the way it works, Tyler. With "your guys" in the White House one can be assured that no one in DC will earn or produce anything of consequence. HeHe! Loved your story...I'm thinking this Cajun tailgate thing will be tons of fun!
  20. Happy Birthday, Rick. Thanks for all you do and all you have done for the Mean Green for all these many years. Boomer sounds fantastic in that new stadium. Wouldn't be UNT Football without Boomer. Enjoy your day...you own it! Happy Birthday!
  21. Great stuff tylermeangreen. maybe GrandGreen can get out and watch some recruits for us and pass along his pearls of wisdom about 4 and 5A recruits. I guess our new coaching staff needs to learn how to recruit and who to recruit. It's not like several years of losing has done anything to UNT's ability to recruit that 5 star 5A athletes who are being recruited by Alabama, LSU, Texas, OU, OSU, etc., etc. I know GrandGreen has a valid point. he's watched college ball at UNT and elsewhere for a long time, but geeezzzzz come on...can we have a tad bit of faith in our UNT staffers to know a college prospect when they see one? Every recruit, no matter what level they played HS ball, is a "prospect of unknown college ability" until they suit up and play at the college level. Lots of 5A and 4A kids have not done well at the next level either. Time will tell about all these guys. Thanks for taking the time to send in these "from behind the Pine Curtain" reports.
  22. Very nice of you and your wife. I hope a great number of Mean Green fans take you up on your offer.
  23. This...plus 1 for you, Sir! UNT did win this game, right? Our coaching staff is pretty experienced, right? Just wondering....
