Oh, so RV's vision from the first day he set foot on the UNT campus had absolutely ZERO to do with the stadium? There would have been NO student vote if RV had not pushed his vision. The vote "sealed the deal" for certain, but it in NO WAY is 100% responsible for Apogee Stadium becoming a reality. I worked for a bank in Dallas that was holding meeting about "stadium" donations and looking at "stadium concepts" long before any student vote was scheduled. No vision, no background work, no initial backing from the administration and donors....no stadium vote. Like you, Silver, I give the students credit for making the dream a reality, but if you left it up to the students in the first place we'd be enjoying homecoming this Saturday at Fouts.

First Year Head Coach Wins Again At Ark St
KRAM1 replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
Amazing how fast this group...or some...can turn on a new head coach. While the guy told everyone over and over and over again that the "cupboard was bare"...so often in fact that some of us actually got very tired of hearing it...some choose now to forget all that and start comparing him to "other" first year head coach records. Rick may say, "I was just pointing out a fact"...and that's true, but seems to me that there might, just might, be a bigger reason behind the post. Well, that's fair even if there is, and I'll support Rick's right to have such a "reason", but folks, let's not get this thing going into a dumpster because our HC told us exactly what to expect and some chose to simply ignore him and decide that UNT was ready to compete for the SBC crown this season. Congrats to all the HC's who have better records than UNT...good for them and good for their fan bases. It must be nice, but if you expected more than a max of 5 wins this season for the Mean Green you have been drinking much more green kool-aid than I have been accused of drinking. And, I see nopthing...nothing...to be gained here by pointing out every coach that has a better record that Coach mac at this point in the season...first year HC or 20-year HC. Lots of experienced and not so experienced HC's have less than wonderful w/l records at this point in the season...what, about half-way. Let's try to enjoy the season as best we can, support the seniors on this team who have worked hard (and many who should probably be starting for SFA, ACC, etc.)and played their rears off for UNT, it's students and alumni. When the season is over we can all sit back and pontificate about what, if any, progress was noted, what the HC and staff should and should not have done (as if anyone on here really has a clue about that) and who should and should not be back to play for the Mean green next season. We have a homecoming game this Saturday to enjoy. And, it looks now like the weather will be great for the early-start with possible showers later. I believed Coach Mac when he talked about the players he had early on and I believe him now. This is not a one-season turn around project. Let's see where the Mean green is AFTER the season before anyone starts the "Coach Mac" isn't as good as......threads. Or, even threads that seem to want to infer that through comparisons to other 1st year head coaches. Again, not picking on FFR...I get it, and I get where he is coming from. Just stating a "different" view. Get a grip people, cool your jets and let's support this HC and his staff and these players as they look to win more games than UNT has won in any one season in a very long time. That would, be a nice improvement, right? -
OK, I cannot believe I am doing this, but +1 for you sir. This is classic! HOF worthy and no matter what you think of the situation, it had to put a smile on your face. I can always use a good smile in the afternoon after a long work day! Greatness!

Excellent response from the department in trying to get the word out on this schedule change. We would not have seen this type of effort made in years past. Perhaps we can all agree that effort is being made here....

Do you agree with the Homecoming Time Change from 6pm to 4pm?
KRAM1 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
We have to change some early day "stuff" around, but yes, we will be there. Unfortunately, this is the type of decision the AD is faced with when UNT has such a unreliable fan base. You have to make the decisions that you think will help attendance. Too bad, but these sort of decisions will continue until the attitude of so-called Mean green fans changes to such that it is UNT games first and always first. At this point we have so-called fans who think watching a baseball game (yes, a World Series game) on TV is more important than actually showing up...at homecoming no less...to support their university. That's the really sad part about this whole thing. There, hopefully, will come a day when such schedule changes are made to accommodate TV schedules which also bring big $$$$ to the university. Until then, the AD will be faced with this sort of decision. Want it to stop? Take a look in the mirror and figure out where your priorities are sitting. I fully believe that the Mean Green fan base has it in itself to change this culture. You can be part of the solution or you can be part of the problem. Hopefully, the AD will be "rewarded" for this decision with a large turnout. By the way...many on this board were calling the AD "stupid" for not considering this move just a few short days ago. Tough call...a "can't win" call...glad I didn't have to be the one making the call. -
But, wait, this destroys the myth that UNT didn't try to get Harbaugh or Fischer. And, lays it on Harbaugh and Fischer who actually turned UNT down...not the other way around. Oh, what have you done? What are you trying to do here? Good grief, man, what will all the "doesn't the AD ever make a good decision" folks going to do now? Let's see...Coach Mac...good move, thank you very much. Athletic Village...done deal...good move...Apogee Stadium...done deal...good move...Coach Hedlund, Coach Jones, Coach Lama, Coach Aston...OK, I could go on...good moves....gosh, this guy just never makes a good move. Sarcasm flowing big time as one types.....

Once Again The Loyal Customers Take it Up The Rear
KRAM1 replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
Mike...no one found out until last evening at the Coach mac Show...about 6:30PM. That's when the first announcement was made. RV told me at the show that he did not get the President's OK until late this afternoon...after all homecoming event coordinators had been contacted and arrangements made regarding the parade, tailgate tents for the homecoming day, etc. Pres. Rawlins has a special President's Tent for the event as well as many other departments and campus organizations. This was not a decision made lightly. I am sure the MGC will put out some announcement this week. Probably as early as today. They didn't get the word until last evening and made the announcement live on the show as soon as they could. As for me, this change definitely affects me in a challenging way. I referee soccer every Saturday morning and will have some problems with games that will need to have referee assignments rescheduled, and I will need to rearrange the Denton Alumni Chapter Pavilion work schedule and I will be LATE to the tailgate festivities and will miss the team march and all tailgate other than my work at the Alumni Pavilion. Big time mess for me now for Saturday, BUT, this is a decision that probably needed to be made even though it definitely inconveniences a bunch of people. RV is VERY much aware of that and knows not everyone will be in support, but seems to me the folks on this board were sure calling for this move earlier in the week. For my personal schedule, I wish this move had not been made and I told RV that in person, but I also told him I understood and that I would do everything I could to be there for the start. The big "shame" of all this is that the students and alums and fans of UNT make this sort of thing necessary because they have not been willing to support this program in the numbers necessary to move the program forward. Too many students, alums and fans would indeed choose the Ranger game (even watching on TV) over actually attending the Mean Green game. If you want this sort of thing to stop...change the attitude of those that SAY they support the Mean Green. Me, I'm mad at the Rangers for not moving the start time of that baseball game to accommodate the Mean Green. Take that Rangers! -

It will also be VERY interesting to see how the Ranger pitcher's do batting against the Cards starting and relief pitching. That's one reason i think it will go to 6 before the Rangers win it. Starting pitching: Edge to the Cards with Carpenter...Holland's struggles, etc. Relief Pitching: Edge to the Rangers (close, but, yes, the Rangers) Hitting: Edge to the Rangers...entire Ranger lineup is dangerous right now...Cruz hitting 7th says about all you need to know History and Tradition: Edge to the Cards with the home field advantage Hitting Pitchers: Big edge to the Cardinals...some of those guys can actually hit and the Ranger pitchers are "out of practice" Bottom line...Rangers in 6. Should be a good series...Rangers split the first two in St. Louis, win 2 in Texas and then close it out in game 6 back in St. Louis. -
Need (2) Tickets for Saturday, 10/22!
KRAM1 replied to Eagle1855's topic in Mean Green Ticket Exchange
I think the better phrasing would be...."I know there are some Rangers fans out there who "WILL CHOOSE NOT" to make it. They certainly can. It's a personal choice plain and simple. I hope you do get a couple of tickets...UNT needs the fan support now as much as ever. Too bad you will simply be using the tickets someone else SHOULD be using. No attendance bump that way...but it's WAY BETTER than empty seats. -
Agree. Don't expect the tight end to be the leading receiver. Just a factor. To ignore the tight end is giving up on a valuable weapon and allowing the opposing teams to focus elsewhere in short yardage especially. Any semblance of a passing game...yes, even to the tight end, may well free Dunbar up a bit. And, then you give the defense more to worry about instead of just teeing off on Dunbar. It's not an "obsession" with the tight end, it's good football sense...at least to me.
-
To blame the offensive line for the entire situation is being overly simplistic at best. While, the O-line's performance was "way less than stellar", one has to give some of the "credit" to the coaching staff, who, knowing the situation revolving the O-line continued to call for runs off guard and tackle, and pass plays that take time to develop. Where were the passes to the tight end, the boot-legs and roll-outs to free Thompson from the pocket pressure, the short dump passes to Dunbar to try to get him space in the open field, etc. This O-line is YOUNG and needs to have some time to develop. I don't think one could have designed an offensive game plan that would put any more pressure on the O-line than the one I saw (in person by the way) Saturday at LaLa. Screen play anyone, bootleg, roll out, tight end, misdirection...I don't know because I am not, unlike many on this board- I guess, a professional college football coach. So, I'll leave that up to Coach Mac and his staff, but from my perspective having attended every home game and this away game at LaLa, our O-line is young, a tad "undersized (based on the size of the defenses they are going up against)and need some time to develop. Our "skins on the wall" coaching staff can certainly come up with a scheme to help off-set some of these challenges faced by the O-line. I personally think our young O-line will develop into a very solid front...maybe even as early as next year after taking some lumps this season. If anyone here thought the Mean green was actually going to win the Sunbelt this first year under Coach Mac, well, I want some of THAT Kool-Aid you were drinking. WAY way too simplistic to say it is all on the O-line. In fact, one might credit the defensive backs for the failure to capitalize on the potential win this last Saturday and ignore the O-line struggles a great deal. Let's see two really poor coverages by Hill equals 12 points for the Cajuns. The the extra points for 2 more. Hmmm...thirty less 14 equals 16, right...much easier to catch up at 16 -13 I would think...but then, I'm not the coach some here are.
-
100% agree with this comment...have already said so in fact. LaLa was bigger, faster and stronger...and "older" almost to the man. Experienced players certainly help a new coach in the turnaround process. Youngsters need time...much more time than a junior or senior to catch on to a new system and to hold their ground against experienced (and bigger) opponents. One does tend to lean from playing the game, right?

I think this post sums up how I feel pretty well
KRAM1 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Just re-read my post...yes, it is quite common. Call a few around the country and ask if you can join without having graduated. vast majority will tell you where you can send the check. -
I'm looking at all the "skins on the wall" with this staff. I just wonder how that "no skins" guy at LaLa was able to turn his "no D1 talent, slow & undersized players" into a 6-1 team in one season? The LaLa players were, in fact, bigger, stronger and faster and more experienced than the Mean Green. That certainly helps. And, it helps with the time it takes a coach to turn things around. Way way too early for some of the talk we are seeing on this board. Amazing is what some of it is, and to think UNT has this many "experts" around that KNOW what our coaching staff should and should not do to advance the program toward a winning tradition once again. Come on folks, give the depression a rest, and realize that this team can still win more games this season that it has in many years. Some of you want to give up...sure glad you would not be in a foxhole with me. let it get tough and off you would go. Be frustrated with the losses, be upset about losing, but come on, acting like you are ready to surrender and giving up on this new staff after these few games is really crazy. Please try to grad some reality...and soon. And come to homecoming to enjoy great fall weather, great tailgating, co-eds in shorts and boots, the Alumni Pavilion and the next Mean Green win at Apogee.

One...please stop calling it the UNT Exes. The UNT Alumni Association has not been named the Exes for several years...and, yes, just likie it is for the vast majority of universities in the U.S., you do not have to be a gradualte of the University to be a member of their Alumni Assoiation. -
If you are going to play your 3rd team QB...well, in reality your 2nd team QB, why do you run Dunbar right into the line when you are trying to catch up and the kid has less than 50 yards rushing at that point in the game? Looked like a "give up" move to me, and I thought there was still a chance to get some points on the board. Yep, almost did when the clock ran out, but that was not when McNulty first trotted onto the field. I thought Royce Hill had a pretty bad game (even looked like he gave up on one LaLa TD), the O-Line did little/nothing to open holes for Lance, Lance "danced around" too much before trying to hitt the holes, the poceket kept collapsing on Thompson and he had a good case of "happy feet" all day, etc., etc. The D-Line did a darn good job in my opinion and is a bright spot developing, and special teams is far and away better than last season (OK, forget that one blocked FG attempt. The was some excellent downfield covergae on the many punting opportunities UNT had during the game. LaLa was bigger, faster, stronger and "older" than our guys. The game planned to stop Dunbar and they did, and when they did, it was pretty much over for UNT. All that being said, UNT was in the game late in the 3rd quarter and had its opportunities to win. I am still waiting for some creativity from the offense (other than the questionable wildcat experiments) and wonder if Chico has pared it down due to the inexperience of the offense or if Coach mac has "suggested" it be pared daown? Hey, Delgado had a decent game as well...

Never...never...any question of support for the Mean Green. The wins will come and until they do, every kid and every coach has my support...I'll be in the stands Saturday. I could care less what else is going on in the area...doesn't matter. I'll be there in support for the Mean Green. As I hope every member of the great Mean Green Nation will...you know who you are! It's easy to support a winning team..but when times are tough, folks will remember most those who still ventured out in support. Homecoming will be a great opportunity for the Mean Green nation to show its support for the team and the program, so be there Saturday for homecoming....please and thank you.

GREAT atmosphere for a college game with great tailgate crowd. I was very much impressed with the support i saw for the Cajuns not only at the game but around town as well. Flags flying, windows of businesses painted in support of the Cajuns, etc. I also want to say thanks to the many...and I mean many Cajun fans who offered us food and drink as we walked the entire tailgate area before the game. No serious or out of line trash talk, just good clean "chat" and plenty of offers of food and thanks for coming to Lafayette. In fact, this atmosphere is what i hope to see one day at UNT. It was not always that way at Lafayette I was told by several of the Cajun faithful, but has grown to what it is now over the last 4-5 years. 100,000+ at tailgate with 32,000 in the stands. Amazing what can happen when folks place a priority on supporting their team...including the local business and residential community. My hat goes off the the fans of the Ragin' Cajuns for the support they are showing and for the hospitality they showed to a couple of Mean green fans Saturday. By the way...that Cajun Music festival was A-OK as well...great food, great music. I join a few other Mean green fans in wishing the Cajuns nothing but success the remainder of the year...on to the New Orleans Bowl!!! Thanks for helping make our weekend a very good one in spite of another loss by the Mean Green!

I believe it is being shown on ESPN3...streaming video, not TV or so they tell me.

Good stuff, and I am really happy to see that Coach Aston is still around since she pretty much disappeared after her attendance at a few of the AD's Road Shows well before the football season kicked off. I am looking for a resurgent team this season under Coach Aston. I think the Mean green Nation will see a team that will get batter and better as the season wears on. Watch out for the Mean Green to make some waves in the Sunbelt Tourney this season. Really like what I am hearing (as one has not actually seen much) from Coach Aston and from those closer tot eh program than I am...looking much better for the Mean Green this season.
