Very tough call. I think you schedule them the best you can as an AD and let the folks make arrangements to attend or not based on the schedule provided. Every person, every family, etc. has their own set of personal circumstances that play into the "likes and dislikes" regarding scheduling. As an AD you just have to do the best you can. I think what hurts more is to have late schedule changes after the schedules come out and after folks have made their plans. Sometimes, it just cannot be helped (TV, World Series, etc.), but for the most part they need to be played as scheduled as that is what people have made plans around...and some involve significant travel and expense. In the case of this last week's game...looks like RV made the correct decision attendance-wise. Sure made me scramble like a mad man, but I made it and am darn sure glad I did. ANOTHER great Saturday at Apogee!

I am hearing that Tomlinson is OK as well, but have heard nothing official. We need both these guys in good shape through out the rest of the season. Great news about AK-47 and I am hopeful that what I heard "through unspecified sources" is also correct regarding young Mister Tomlinson.

A Big Thank You To SoundManEric From The Mean Green Nation

How can you be a "former Alum"? Every member of the UNT Alumni Assoc. Board (please stop calling it the Exes...it isn't funny and it isn't appropriate) is an alum of UNT. I also know the Alumni Association is always looking for volunteers to help with projects and events. If anyone here would like to volunteer...believe me there is a lot of work to do and few volunteers (but tons of suggestions)please feel welcome to PM me with your contact info. I head up a new committee of the Alumni Board that is called the Alumni Ambassadors. The Ambassadors is made up of previous board members who have indicated a desire to stay involved with their university and others who would like to volunteer to help move UNT and the Alumni Association forward. So, if you would like to get involved, PM me. Lots of work to be done and we would welcome your help with open arms. -
Amazing stuff here. I think if Coach mac thinks it's great than it is fine with me. I haven't rushed a field in many many years...who cares? If the students want to rush the field after every game...good for them. Heck, let's hope it creates an atmosphere where more students want to come to the games. Like tylermeangreen said, I don't think the hard and fast rules have been written on the proper celebration techniques for college kids and sports fans. I, personally, love to see the excitement taking place on the field and I darn sure think the players like it...we'll see where this takes us after 5-6 years of winning football at UNT. Until then, have all the fun you want as long as you keep it safe....I mean in regards to celebrating a UNT win. Heck, I've seen the students storm the court after a basketball win that was not a conference title win...anything wrong with that folks? Just can't see the harm. As to this "little...small school...high school" stuff that some folks want to throw out here...if you don't see yourself as small school others won't either. Who cares what these other morons think? They don't support UNT or UNT football...I could give a rat's rear end what they think of the way our students want to celebrate a win. If it bothers you, I think you might want to think about getting your priorities a bit more in order or to think about being a little less thin skinned and just enjoy the wins!

I believe the concession stands take credit cards. tell them to process your debit card as a credit card. I think they might work that way...haven't tried, but I am told they might.
-
Sorry...I just don't agree. I don't like that folks stay outside anymore than anyone else does, BUT they do add to the pre-game atmosphere that will help, over the long run, build a tradition of a great tailgate atmosphere. The word will spread, more will come to enjoy the festivities of a Saturday Mean green game, and more will find their way into the stadium If you send the cops out to close it down, they will just stop coming altogether and then you have ZERO chance that some may decide to start making the game a part of the deal. I am as frustrated as others about these folks, but to send the cops in would do no one any good at all, and I think, much more harm than any perceived good. They do close down the "authorized" tailgate events...

17,000 PLUS got to see a great Mean green win...thanks to all who were there and were loud and proud. I made it home in plenty of time to watch the Rangers lose 16-7. I sure am glad I can be counted with the 17,000+ who had a great time on a beautiful fall day at Apogee. It was fantastic to see the Mean green close one out. The team stepped up when they needed to and shut ULM down when it mattered the most. If you are a tailgater who stayed outside or one of those who chose the World Series on TV over the Mean green, you missed a dandy. I hope you'll make it to Apogee for the next home game. Much much better scenery than what you would see on TV. Thanks to all who showed up loud and proud yesterday. Amazing how loud Agogee can be even half full. Can't wait until the thing is filling up on a regular basis...that would, indeed, give the Mean green a big home field advantage. Met a guy who was here from Nebraska for his first Apogee game. Loved the new stadium and was really excited about getting to see his first Mean Green HOME VICTORY. Come join the fun...great day, great people....The Mean green Nation lives!

Fantastic...uniform talk starting on the basketball board. Just can't get enough uniform talk.
-
I agree. Lets have more SMU, conference realignment and uniform talk.
-
Only on special teams plays.
-
Remind me....still, Quoner, you are sounding so un-Quoner. Must be that illness. Maybe you can take this to the Florida Marlins board. That should be fun, and I'm sure they'll care.
-
On a much lighter note, are you aware that #78-Troy Kokjohn, is one of the candidates for UNT homecoming King this Saturday? How about that sports fans? I know it has been done before, but it's good to see a senior deep snapper getting this sort of PR. Troy Kokjohn and UNT diver (swim team member) Delia Covo are on the ballot for Homecoming King and Queen. The vote has been concluded, so we will all find out Saturday at halftime...wondering if Coach mac will allow #78 on the field for the Homecoming Court presentation????? This could make for a happy ending to a homecoming weekend for young Master Troy Kokjohn...or should I say King Troy???? Hey, it's better than another thread on conference realignment, yes?
-
Come on Quoner...you know very well that this has ZERO to do with "chartering jets to fly to Florida"...you "fail" on that one. I don't believe you graduated from the University of the Marlins or have any personal connection. Really? Is that the best you could do in response? I'll give you another try if you would like. And, it's not Mean Green vs Rangers...it's asking where one's priority is for one game where attendance actually matters for one team and well, not so much for the other. No, I am not trying to "convert a casual fan". I dare say, there are few/no casual fans on GMG.Com. In all your "sickness" about it you felt compelled to respond...interesting. Why even reply if you think this is trolling? I'll just sit back a await the start of your next thread with anxious heart beating as I am sure it will be so very thought provoking. Hope you feel better soon.

Due to last evening's dramatic 9th inning come from behind win by the Rangers, I think some "added pressure" has been placed on attendance for Saturday's homecoming game at Apogee. So........... Just placing a bit of a different spin on this dilemma (at least a dilemma for some). Who needs you more Saturday? The Mean Green or the Rangers? Where would your presence have a greater impact on a team/s you say you support? Would the Rangers know or care? Would it hurt the Rangers attendance if you did not attend the Rangers game Saturday? What about skipping the Mean green game entirely to watch the Rangers on TV? Every fan in attendance is critical for the Mean Green in any number of ways...including, perhaps, a new conference alignment, the potential signing of a new football (or basketball, etc.) recruit, the wooing of a new or current big time donor, building a tradition of support...and, really, in helping the Mean Green actually have a home field advantage. Seems to me that the Rangers will have a full house no matter what. Where would your attendance matter the most? I know the answer for me personally, it's a no brain-er, but for some it is not so easy. so, I just ask...where are you needed the most? Just a bit of a different spin on the same question. Only you can answer that question.

World Series
KRAM1 replied to UNT90's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
The Rangers find a way to play National League baseball and beat a National League team at their own game in their own ballpark...GREATNESS! Be honest...who felt the Rangers would get to Motte and tie the thing or win it in the 9th? Really? Great job getting it done LATE Rangers! Now, what I see as bad news in all this...it will tend to hurt attendance for the UNT game Saturday with the exciting win last evening. Good to get the win...really had to, but it will hurt as many will now stay home to watch the game and not even venture to Agogee. That's too bad and says a good bit about UNT students, fans and alums, but everyone gets to make their own choice here on how they want to handle it and where they place their priorities. That's the way sports go! GO RANGERS...GO MEAN GREEN. I'll be at Apogee until the game done...then catch what I can, if any, of the Series game. The Rangers won't miss me, the Mean Green would. -
I'm ready for some roundball! Let's get it on...GO MEAN GREEN!

Occupy Denton
KRAM1 replied to Dr. Seuss's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Rudy...not a bad point.... But, if anyone thinks they actually know why they are protesting they should listen to the interviews of some of the self-appointed leadership. While they "think" they know what's going on, those that I have heard speak know very little about the causes of the recession, the role government plays in this mess, the way campaign finance works, the actual tax paid by various groups and corporations, etc., etc. and seem to be just parroting the news media, and many other liberal blogs and politicians. These folks have become the "Tea Party" of the liberals. Funny how they are opposed to $$$$ having an influence all the while taking large contributions for the the labor unions. Classic! But, don't worry, those big labor unions will soon make sure they have a unified voice. So, they will definitely "know" soon enough because they will be TOLD why they are protesting. March On...March On....... Edit: Just to be clear here...I am talking about the DC and national "movement", not the "proud, the few, the misguided" who "Occupy Denton". -
Well, I just hate that I bite on these prediction threads, but i do. So, here goes...like several here I think this will be a close game and will also be fairly high scoring...I think UNT manages to protect the home field with a 4th quarter come from behind (but not far behind win: UNT 31 ULM 28 Both teams need a win and both teams probably think they CAN win...it will be a good game...back and forth. If you miss it, you will wish you hadn't.

World Series
KRAM1 replied to UNT90's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Gee, LaRussa makes a move with a pretty seldom used guy that pays off...what if the roles were reversed? Wash's move with German results in a 3-2 Rangers win. Would that have been a bonehead move? I've thought all along that the Rangers will win in 6...still do...and have thought that Carpenter would be tough for the Ranger hitters in GAME 1...not so much in later games after they have seen and watched the guy "up close and personal". Anyone who thought this series would be a cake walk has not been paying attention to the Cards of late. Same guys giving Wash heck here were praising his moves earlier in the playoffs. Gee, sounds like a UNT fan board...oh, wait..... Don't fret...Rangers have this is 6! Now if Colby has nothing tonight...well, darn that move by Wash with German! HeHe.... -

Wake me up when they figure out what it exactly is they are protesting about. Give me the old hippie (sorry Silver) protests of the 60's. Those folks KNEW how to protest...this bunch is just messin' around! HeHe...
