Thanks to FFR for his appropriate comments...the rest...usual responses from the usual suspects. BTW, Tasty, if the "usual suspects" comment hit a tad close to home for you, that's your impression. Nice that folks want to characterize other's comments, thoughts and attitudes while getting very defensive when it hits a bit close to them. Mirror time boys, mirror time. Nice to know the world's axis hasn't changed. Edit...Oh, forgot...Tasty, the only man alive who perceives perfect "tone" from internet postings...while other seem to miss it fairly often. How sanctimonious of you to point that out. How is it in "I'm so perfect land" these days? But, as has been said...you know I love you anyway. Merry Christmas!

Very nice...so, where will this video be seen? Really a nice production and a very nice showcase of UNT. Happy Holidays to all and to all a good night!

Very sad when people clearly do not understand. Points to why this great nation of ours has some of the problems it so clearly faes today. Not sure you know anything about it other than wanting to make light of it. So it goes. Sad. Enjoy your day...some paid for it dearly on Dec. 7th, 1941...grandstand my rear end. If pointing out the day is grandstanding, I want to lead the grandstading from this day forward. Pointless to discuss furher.

As I said...so sad that so few mentions of this day and why it is important will be seen in the media outlets today. Your examples certainly prove the point...for local coverage check out the minor space given in the Dallas Morning News. Appreciate the links and the support for my view that so little is remembered about this day. Check out the response on the board from kalebschumann regarding the treatment given it at his school for further proof. Brush it off as "silly old man ranting" if you wish, but for those of us who "do" remember and are thankful for the sacrifices made, it is a very very somber and special day. Thanks to all who do take it seriously and with the respect it so deserves.

Nicely done. Coach Mac has made a difference in many areas and getting the most out of his players seems to be one of them. Every player selected was very worthy of the honor and earned it the hard way...by working for it! Congrats to each and every one. I think we'll see more than seven on next year's all-conference squad.

Many thanks. Each generations seems to have it's "significant moment"....my Dad's was WWII (he flew in the China-Burma-India Theater...Flew the Hump as they say), mine was Viet Nam...the era in which I served...My son's is the Iraq/Afghanistan war...he has served in Iraq and remains on active duty...I have a nephew who is returning for the second time to Afghanistan after having served twice in Iraq...four tours in that combined conflict...and yes, there is 9/11...another fundamental security and intelligence failure on the part of the United States who felt "safe and secure" and who seems to all too soon forget the need to stay awake and vigilant at ALL TIMES. Thanks for helping our youth remember those who served and those who now serve.

Mid-Major or not...would never have seen this in the last few years...and so very early in Coach Aston's tenure as well. Well done Coach Aston and ladies of the Mean Green. Very proud of you. BEAT ALABAMA!!!!!!

The Biggest Travesty of the Bowl Season
KRAM1 replied to Mean Green 93-98's topic in Mean Green Football
Good column in the Dallas Morning News this morning about the Coaches having a vote...pointed out that Mike Gundy of Oklahoma State didn't even have a vote while Nick Saben of Alabama voted his own "Bama team #2 and OSU # 4. Nice bit of sportsmanship there Nickey Boy! Perhaps the BCS really should think about taking the "self-serving" element out of the process. While Saben was just doing what he could within the rules, there is no way he should have ranked OSU #4...and that hurt OSU's chances, and he knew it. Should coaches vote? Like Cowlishaw said, I don't fault Saben for doing what he could to feather his own nest, but I do fault a system where "self-interest" can play such a big role in the outcome. I get it, so don't give me the "it's within the rules so it is OK" thing. I agree...I get it...it's the way the system is and it works for some teams and against others...yes, I get it...the point here is to simply start a discussion (and can we please stay on track here folks....please) about whether you think the Coaches should vote in BCS calculations should count or not given the potential self-serving nature of the vote and in the fact that not all coaches get a vote... You're up! -
Folks, today, Dec. 7th is Pearl Harbor day. You won't see that much about it on the news or in the papers any longer (other than a short mention here and there), but it is a day that will forever be etched in the memory of this great nation of ours. It reflects quite clearly what happens when a great nation forgets that it should always be prepared for the unexpected. So many lives lost that day in 1941 and so many would be lost in the days and years following the attack on Pearl Harbor. We must never forget and we must remember today those brave men and women who lost their lives on Dec. 7, 1941 and those who fought, were injured and/or died in the struggle that followed. My sincere thanks go out to all who served in that great battle and to all who have served since, serve now and who will serve in the future. This nation is losing that "Greatest Generation" of men and women rather rapidly these days, but if you are fortunate enough to know someone who did serve during WWII, take a moment to shake their hand and tell them that you remember and that you will always remember the sacrifices they made and the conditions they endured to ensure freedom for the citizens of the United States and great part of the world. Mat God bless and keep them one and all.

The Biggest Travesty of the Bowl Season
KRAM1 replied to Mean Green 93-98's topic in Mean Green Football
Oh, you mean other than the fact we have an also ran in the national championship game that couldn't even win it's division much less it's conference, sat home on "decision Saturday" and has already lost to the team it is now scheduled to play for the national championship? Yes, other than that travesty, Western Kentucky certainly has some room to feel slighted. Could it also have happened to UNT if UNT had those six wins? Could be...NOW THAT WOULD BE A TRAVESTY WORTH MENTIONING! -
What about football? I agree with Tasty here...times change and people change. The attitude of the co-ed in question is most likely not the same way she will feel in a few years. Yes, UNT has a bunch of these students...maybe even more than most universities, but it also has a good number of students who do care about their university and, like was mentioned earlier, all universities have such students enrolled. Sigh...they just miss out on so much, but it's their decision. As wrong as many of us feel it is through our experiences, we can only let time take its course with this attitude. This is a situation I see improving across UNT, but it will take time and it will take much more than just a winning football or basketball team. P.S. She probably doesn't care about much of anything else either.

Any "blame" leveled at Coach Mac for the poor attendance...students and otherwise...will only come form folks who have no real clue about what he has done and tried to do and the hours he put in this season trying to energize both fans and students. I only hope he is not discouraged enough by this year's results to "give up". It will not be a one-year turn around, and he will have an easier job turning around the fortunes of the football team itself than turing around the dismal attitude toward attendance held currently by many students, alums and members of the greater Denton Community.

Read the quotes in today's DRC regarding the guy who died and then tell me they were not treating him more like a "pet" than a human being. Sad...some think doing that helps homeless people...it doesn't and it is very condescending and disrespectful to the individual as a human being. In no way does it help them other than for the immediate. Like the "give them a fish or teach them how to fish" parable.
-
Agree...and a few more students who give a darn about their school would help as well. Why students today think they need to be "spoon fed" everything is beyond me. The idea that games were not advertised around campus is a cop out of the highest proportion. They were not advertised when I was an undergrad or a grad student at UNT either and students KNEW when the games were. Cop out. It's a culture thing at UNT, but, like I have said before...the culture is changing...slowly, yes, but it is changing. I believe attendance by both students and alums will be even better next season.

Troy Kokjohn...Deep Snapper...another solid season from #78. Since most of you guys never noticed him, that means he was doing his job well. Unsung hero on the team in my opinion. I think in all the snaps for extra point, for field goal attempts and for punts he had perhaps two errant snaps this season and those were no where near disasters. A VERY solid performance by young Mister Kokjohn this year...add that to the fact he had two tackles on special teams...yes, he snapped the ball, made his block and still got down field to make the tackle, and you have one solid senior year. I think he should get some mention for special teams all-conference as a speciality player. That's how well I believe he performed. And, what many of you might not know, Troy had an injury for a good part of the season that would have kept lesser players out for a few games. Not, Troy! So, yep, "my guy" had a great senior season and did a great job for his team and UNT. Thanks, Troy....all the best going forward. Enjoy your "retirement". If I have erred on any of the stats, please feel free to add corrections or PM me and I'll edit the post. Don't want to "short" Troy on any accomplishments.

Coach Mac indicated last evening at his radio show that the O-Line is much improved right now just by taking the red shirts off a couple of guys. He also indicated that they will be recruiting O-Line and D-Line guys going forward. I am hopeful that the "beef" is on the way.

I just wanted to mention what i thought was a very nice gesture from Coach Mac last evening at the final Coach Mac Radio Show of the year...Coach Mac personally bought a drink (beer, soda, etc.) for everyone in attendance as a token of his thanks for our attendance during the year. He has consistently called us the "few, the proud" and stuff like that during the year and has thanked everyone on several occasions, so we pretty much knew how he felt about our attendance, so this gesture was really unexpected and heartfelt. I truly believe that Coach Mac is the right guy at the right time for UNT. Thanks Coach mac for helping to re-establish UNT on the road to being a winning program once again. I did feel a touch of frustration on Coach Mac's part last evening when he talked about attendance and specifically student attendance. he made the comment that he felt like he had done everything he could to engage the student body and to help get them interested in attending games. I sensed a bit of frustration on his part with the results and payback from the students for his and his team's efforts. He said it made a big difference to recruits when they visit to see a full stadium...it said it matters and while UNT set an all-time attendance record this season, he was hopeful that the UNT fan base and the student body would get behind the program and turn out in bigger and bigger numbers in the future. It was a very positive and very enjoyable show to attend last evening. Coach Mac talked about players he discussed for all conference on the coach call in recently...Lance Dunbar,Will Atterberry, AK, Zach Orr. He also mentioned Lemon as freshman of the year and Lance as Offensive player of the year. Interesting also that he mentioned that not all the SunBelt coaches attended that conference call...several SunBelt Coaches on the call were not at all happy about that...even mentioned the possibility of future fines for non-attendance. Hmmmmm...interesting. He also talked about several red shirt freshmen that he feels will have impact next season, how our O-line will immediately be in better shape across the board. Some of you folks who also attended help me out with some names here for those who couldn't attend or listen in on the radio. Anyway, it was a nice last show, and I was happy I got to be part of it. Next season is looking even better... This post has been promoted to an article

Yep, SEC won that year just like they will this year as there is no other option. The second rate (couldn't even win it's conference division crown much less its conference crown) SEC team is playing the legitimate best team in the SEC. "Bama didn't even beat as many Top 25 or Bowl teams as OSU did.... BUT, the games still need to be played on the field. If Alabama beats LSU and OSU beats Stanford do we get a 3-way national champ? Seems Alabama would not deserve an outright championship after already being beaten in a "snoozer" of a game by LSU earlier in the season. Nothing will really be settled this year unless LSU wins and OSU loses...then no one can lay claim to the title except LSU. As an OSU alum and fan i am most happy to be in the BCS Fiesta Bowl...it's a decent consolation prize for being cut out of the championship game...and a decent payout at $17million. So, all is not bad. Only bad thing is that my beloved Mean Green is not going bowling this year...but I expect they will next season! All the rest of this discussion is just consolation prizes to me.

Favorite BCS bowl
KRAM1 replied to greenminer's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Sounds like one of those soccer games people on this sight love to hate. Not much scoring but "two badass teams playing their asses off". Why is that a "yawn" and this isn't? tell me...how many top 25 teams did Alabama beat this season? How many bowl teams did they beat this season? Seems to me the Okie State boys played a tougher schedule and lost one game...but won their conference crown. Something Bama couldn't accomplish. They were all home "safe and sound" at no risk when the rest of the conference championship games were being played. OK, it is what it is...I'll watch and hope it's a great game, but if "bama wins do thwey deserve to be #1 or should we see a rubber match between the same two teams once again?
