Chapel Hill vs. Alvarado - The Final Edition
KRAM1 replied to tylermeangreen's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
tyler...really appreciate your follow-ups on the CH guys all year...but, don't stop with the east Texas stuff. You are our link to the eat Texas kids and the potential for UNT. So, keep 'em coming... Thanks for all your work. -
Pretty much stole this one at the end of the game...and that's the good news as I see it. Teams that struggle with their shooting and can still win at crunch time is a GREAT sign for the future. Both teams seemed pretty well matched and neither was shooting lights out, but I imagine UNT shot, what 30 something percent for the game and still won! Nice...now with two tune-ups before the LSU game, I think the team will be much more prepared for that "test". When this team gets it's shooting going it's going to be a monster to watch...loved that dunk!!! Give me more, please... Got the win....Book it Danno!

Emmitt...thanks for doing this and thanks for welcoming my wife and I in for a bit of a visit. Great to see everyone and great to see this at UNT. Dogs and Brats looked great...never mind Thor giving you a hard time about that soccer game! That was a pretty big beer he was sipping on..... Good crowd I thought for the first tailgate attempt I thought as well.....well done, Sir. Of course, the highlight was your little girl....

Banquet was excellent. I would say we had 300+ in attendance, and I can tell you that the room is too small to hold all who would like to have attended. Problem is, there is no place big enough on campus...or in the City of Denton for that matter...to hod the banquet. It may have to move off campus and out of Denton to hold those who would like to attend. RV and Coach mac were great in thanking everyone...and I mean everyone...who helped make the season a positive one and there were thanks aplenty for the seniors who did so much to stay and help build a great foundation for the future. A couple of great videos shown, all lettermen announced, game balls handed out and team awards announced. All in all a very nice evening. A tad long for my liking and I would pay $10 more to have it a plated dinner rather than a buffet line (think moving 300+ people through a buffet line...espevially when you are feeding over 100 college football players. However, even being a buffet it worked well and folks got through the line in about 35-45 min. But, it did add to the length of the event. We were told (by a few athletic staffers) that the banquets will continue to be on the Friday prior to dead week going forward. One interesting tid bit was that Coach mac said all recruiting will be over before Christmas this year...earliest ever that the team will be DONE that early. Pretty good news...i think he intends on signing 25 to scholarships...but that number includes a couple on campus already with scholarships that will count in next year's class. All in all a great evening...I personally got the opportunity to thank several player parents for "lending us their son" and thanking them for their support. Very nice evening., Vito has reported all the award winners already so i won't go into all that....

Agree! Well said.

Joe...no, I don't think you would...at least the KRAM singing part that is.

And now we have mods helping to hijack threads...I thought this was the football thread? Amazing what power will do...some say it might even corrupt...you know, giving others "time outs" on a whim for posting in the wrong thread, but having no fear of retaliation for oneself. Oh, for the shame of it all...Idi Amin lives! Sorry, yes, the opportunity was just too great to pass up....see you on Tony Mitchell day! Oh, dear...did I just become part of the hijacking?????

This...I am more than fine with Hank and George in the booth...they do a great job and have excellent chemistry. Steven Bartolotta does a nice job as well...no need to change in my opinion. Now, getting Followill more involved with UNT is a very good idea. It would be nice to have more UNT grads much more active in promoting the University when they hold down broadcasting rolls and have some following. Just as it would be nice to get every other UNT grad more interested in their Alma Mater. Lots of possibilities here, even subbing from time to time when Hank cannot make it, or Steven or George...and, yes, banquets, coaching road shows, etc., etc. I think it's a decent idea and should be pursued...now, who can make that happen?

Bodes well for the future of the Mean Green! Congrats to the UNT freshmen named. Well done!
-
Stan...thanks for the kind words. I do hope you will be able to attend on the 15th...if so, please make yourself known to me. I'd love to meet you and perhaps twist your arm a bit more regarding the Mean Green Club. Not too hard....just enough to get some additional info in your hands. Appreciate your support for the Mean Green. And, BTW, there are plenty of "KRAM1's" out there...and many of them do a lot more than I could ever do in support of the Mean green and UNT...I just do what I can and I have a ton of fun doing it!

Great stuff. Have not seen that as yet. Will it be sent to all Mean green Club members? I certainly hope so as it is well done and makes a nice "thank you" message for all those who have joined the Mean green Club in support of student athletes at UNT. On that note....let me invite YOU to a Mean Green Club Happy Hour that my wife and I are co-sponsoring with the Mean green Club on THURSDAY, DEC. 15th from 6-8PM at Metzler's BBQ on Londonderry Lane in Denton. UNT coaches will be on hand to discuss their programs and to meet with Mean green fans. In addition members of the Mean green Club staff will be on hand to help answer any questions you might have, accept new memberships and renewals and to help everyone have a great evening. Appetizers will be provided and beverages will be available for purchase. There is no admission charge and you DO NOT have to be a current member of the Mean green Club to attend. Just RSVP to Kenda Talkin with the Mean Green Club at kendra.talkin@unt.edu and you will be all set. We'd love to see you there and to have you be part of this Mean green Club event.

Gov't Agency Thinking
KRAM1 replied to KRAM1's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Actually, no, I don't. Like the vast majority of all govt. depts and agencies, there are way more employees than are needed to do a good job. Productivity numbers indicate this time and time again. While I personally hate to see anyone lose a job, this is a case where consideration of job cuts could definitely help "save" a bunch of other jobs and retain some semblance of service for the clients. The postal service could also look at employee benefits as a way to save costs and yet not cut as many services or employees. I too believe that many government functions would be much better run if the private sector were allowed to handle it...like perhaps United Parcel, FedEx, etc. in this case. Much of the post offices challenges come from the electronic delivery of mail these days and the fact that the post office has simply not kept up with the trends in what clients expect and require. Again, like raising taxes, they cannot figure out the correlation between the continued decline in first class mail usage and the ever rising cost of first class postage coupled with what electronic methods of communication now handle. The simple things seem to constantly be missed by the government mind set. The post office is certainly no exception. Long ago...when the post office became an agency and not a full-fledged budget item for Congress and the taxpayer, they should have thought about marketing and service quality as they were now in the retail and competitive marketplace. But, no, they kept on doing the same things the same ways with bloated staffs and outdated equipment until it was way past too late. On another note...they certainly failed to recognize the fact that stamp collecting had seen its heyday and was on the decline with the "younger set". Just one area where they failed to make changes to capitalize on the changing environment. They failed to recognized that the collector would no longer be rushing to the post office in the numbers they once were to grab each and every new postal issue, sign up for first day covers, purchase postal stationary, etc. while never using them as actual postage. A small area perhaps, but certainly a sample of the failings of the postal service to be in tune with the business climate. The postal service has no one but itself to blame for the condition it finds itself in today. The union control over the postal service certainly doesn't help either. Unions never seem to be interested in efficiencies and competition...only bloated payrolls and bloated benefit packages, and yes, those union dues that line the pockets of the union bosses. Just saying......where are the OWS folks protesting the bloated salaries on bonuses of union bosses? Gee, I wonder? While a bit off-track, I just couldn't resist getting that "union" shot in during this post. -
Well, topic of much speculation. Have read numerous articles on both sides of the issue and none have been all convincing as far as I am concerned. What I have been able to determine is that it appears the US intelligence agencies, who had already broken the Japanese code, knew something was up on Dec. 7th, 1941, and they had an approximate time for the event. The odd thing is that they seemed to have failed to realize the difference in time zones between Washington DC and the rest of the country including Hawaii. By the time the warning got to units in Hawaii the attack had already commenced and had taken the U.S. units stationed in Hawaii by complete surprise. Pretty epic fail by the US intelligence agencies I would say...much like the epic fail surrounding the events of 9/11. Now, did FDR or others know anything sooner than that, I don't know and don't think anyone will ever know for sure. Like I said, I have done a good bit of study...and still study...the events of WWII, but have yet to make up my own mind regarding this issue. Do you have any thoughts on the matter or are you just looking for another opportunity to derail a legitimate discussion topic?

So, if you ever wanted to get a good idea of how the government mind-set works when it comes to failing enterprises, cost control and customer service, look no further than the U S Post Office. In recent comments regarding the billowing costs of running the post office and what the post office intends to do about it, a local rep for the post office has been quoted as saying that while many of the local service centers will be closed to save cash, no employees will lose their jobs. So, the answer for the government mind-set types is to reduce service to your clients so as to not inconvenience any of the government employees. Is there any wonder the post office is self-imploding? Let's cut back on first-class delivery times, delay all mail service classes and raise the cost of postage, but let's make sure all the current employees keep their jobs and bloated benefit programs. WOW! Just WOW! United Parcel, FedEx, etc. must be laughing their collective rear ends off, and drinking toasts to their good fortune. While the post office will clearly lose revenue over this brilliant move, the private sector folks will gain significantly. It's like raising taxes. Once taxes are raised the folks who pushed for the raise cannot figure out why tax revenues have decreased. The post office folks will sit around and wonder why their expenses continue to climb, clients continue to decrease and the post office is still on the verge of collapse after this brilliant move to inconvenience what clients they have remaining in order to hold on to bloated payrolls and benefit programs. Classic government thinking. Priceless.

He has a point.

Yes...more than once. If you haven't been...you should consider going. Might help some understand the significance of remembering those who sacrificed so much, and why Pearl harbor Day should always and forever remain a VERY BIG DEAL...and I don't mean mention on some inside page of a newspaper. Really a nice exhibit and great to have it here in Texas...Nimitz was, of course, a native son.

Me too Joe...it would be FUN! Can you imagine how attendance might be improved with some of these regional games? Wow. I think Apogee would see much bigger and much more enthusiastic crowds.
-
What? Sometimes you are such a kidder....is that what it is to you a debate? Kidding, right? Debating you would be like shooting at an unarmed man. But, I respect those who served, fought and died to give you the right to think you are armed for a debate. You miss so much by trying to prove to folks how creatively cute you can be. Just tired of the whole point of trying to communicate what was obviously a missed point by some....
