I take full responsibility for this loss. I am out of town for the holidays, San Diego...and yes, I played golf at Torrey Pines....but, I made the decision to leave the wife in San Diego and head home to Denton in time for both the Dec. 31st games. So sorry for the loss folks...my bad...I'll accept full responsibility for this one.....see you for the double home win day on the 31st.

Some of you are simply incredible....and not in a positive way. What in the Sam Hill are you complaining about? RV has been one busy AD this year....new football HC, new stadium opening after months and months of construction, naming rights...did you forget that little event? New women's head basketball coach hired....seen how the team is doing lately? A major increase in the number of Mean Green Club members and donations, increased local and national...yes, national PR, increases GPA levels for UNT athletes across the board....and on and on. This has been the busiest guy in the DFW area this entire year and he has done an excellent job for the Mean Green Nation. I know there are areas where he is not overly happy, and he will be working on those this next year...But, for the love of God people, give it a rest! Just dumping Mandy and getting a new staff for the Mean Green Club was BIG in my book! OK, a little humor there.... RV has earned a bit of down time...if, in fact, he is enjoying a bit of downtime over the holidays. He seems to be at all the holiday season games...ever notice that he goes to the student area toward the end of every game and thanks the students? Have you even bothered to notice that little gesture? Probably not, as some are too busy trying to figure out what t o complain about next. If you have the guts, go up to him at the next game...you do attend games, right? And, be sure and let him know that you think he has just been sitting around relaxing for most of the year...and, tell him how you would do it so much differently. Please, man up, and tell him to his face what you post here....I am 100 percent certain that he would respond in a much kinder manner.... For all that is good give it a rest....

Great win for the ladies...cannot wait to see them against Troy on New Year's Eve. Very proud of these ladies.....Coach A is doing a great job!

Time, folks, give it time. These youngsters are just learning to play against upperclassmen, and seem to be adjusting to a much faster game. In high school not every player had the skills of a D1 player....adjusting takes a bit of time when one discovers they are no longer the best player on every court they touch...patience, grasshopper, patience. The shots will come and they will fall.

Expectations can be a tough act to follow. Tony is seeing and feeling that right now. I don't agree with Skiver that he should get the ball every time in the low post because he cannot seem to get position in the low post...you saw him have the ball just taken right out of his hands last evening by a LSU player when he did get it....Should he get it more often? ABSOLUTELY...but, to do so he must work harder to get open, to get up and down the floor quicker...hard to lob it in to one of the last men down the floor who also has their back turned to the ball. If he does get it, he needs to look for the open man as the opponents may have sagged down on him and left open men with much better looks at the basket. Right now, when he does get it, he wants to do something spectacular with the ball such as that turn around dunk when he was pretty open and could have easily just laid the ball in the basket. The ball almost rolled out because he was looking for the spectacular play...that's what has been expected of him, and how I sense the pressure of those expectations is weighing on him a bit. His jumper is pretty terrible right now...can you spell air ball from about 6 feet last evening? That will come, and it will need to if he has NBA expectations. JJ is a pretty good judge of basketball talent and he fully believes that this class is something very special, but one that needs a good bit of work. OK, now I say...so what? He's not even in basketball shape yet and he has yet to figure out who will be where and when on the court with him. He'll relax and he'll get better and better with each game when he realizes he doesn't have to try to carry the team. It will also help when he is in shape enough to really hustle and get some fire in his belly (and facial expressions for that matter). That easy going trot down the floor and back and that blank stare on his face most the time doesn't help the "expectation" thing at all. I am sure that JJ will know how to work that angle. I will stay on the T Mitch bandwagon because this young man is something special. Yes, there are more than a few with the same or better skill set playing college ball right now, but TM has the potential (potential is such a big word) to be the best player to ever don the MEAN GREEN GREEN. Give him time...give Williams and Jones time...give Alzee, Holman, etc., etc. time to adjust to these new and YOUNG players, and then lets see what we have in this team. THIS TEAM IS GOING TO BE SOMETHING SPECIAL....and oh so very fun to watch. For one, I definitely plan on enjoying the ride...while I get a bit frustrated at times this season as well...LSU game that UNT clearly could have won! See you at the Super Pit! Fun times!

I know there will be some who post here that will disagree with you. I will not be one of those. You pretty much nailed my observations on the team so far. This is going to be..."going to be" being the operative words here, a very exciting team to watch develop over the next couple of years. In the meantime, the Mean green faithful will just need to be patient and enjoy the ride...win or lose. This team will lose games it should have won...last night against LSU being a prime case in point...and it will win some games it probably should have lost. This is a bunch of young players surrounded by a couple of solid, but not spectacular experienced players. AND, it will take time. How many missed jumpers last night? How many turnovers? How many missed open shots? So, really, this will be a case of the "good, bad and ugly" for awhile all wrapped up in a nice package of exciting and fun basketball to watch. Frustrating, yes indeed...but, fun none the less. Everyone just needs to be patient and enjoy the ride. So far, Chris Jones is showing that he is the "real deal" while Jordan William and Tony Mitchell have some work to do on those jumpers and in adjusting more to the college game. A year playing rec ball where you are clearly the best player going is showing as Tony tries to adjust to the speed and pace of the college game. These other players are simply not rec ball players. They are good, fast and skilled....pretty much all of them or they would not be on a D-1 court. I am having a blast watching this team and realizing that every game will show some signs of improvement while I await the "experience factor" that can only come with time. I left the game last evening both happy and sad. Sad that UNT lost a game it could definitely have won, but happy to know that this is a team and a program that will be something to watch for some time to come. AND, the "good news" is that the "time" will definitely come. GREAT crowd of over 6000 last night at the Super Pit. Got to hand it to the student section...pretty darn good showing for a holiday break period. Well done! And, the "alumni and fan" crowd...while seeing transfere a few in purple and gold...are to be commended as well. Two observations from the crowd for me...ONE: It shows what can happen when UNT plays "known" teams, and TWO; It shows the size crowd that should be filling the Super Pit each and every game. No reason why this team should not average 5000+. Good start on the support this season folks...keep it coming. Yes, it will take some time and some patience from the fan base, but have no doubt about the abilities of this team and the coaching staff to get it done. UNT is on the rise, and some folks are definitely beginning to take notice. Yep, lost last evening...yep, should have won...could have won, but it was a great evening at the Super Pit and the hint of many good nights to follow in the Super Pit. SHOUT OUT TO THE BEST SIGN (Well, maybe the only sign)...two young women holding a sign that read: "You Have Just Been MITCH Slapped". No where near as great if it were being held by two guys. Nicely played, ladies! Thanks to all who made it to the Super Pit last evening...great fun, great atmosphere. You helped to make it so!

Love the place...don't forget about the great Frito Chili Pie as well as the burgers and root beer! Great old fashioned burger joint, great local owners, great prices and a fun place to eat. ENJOY...I know I do every time I stop by to grad a bite.

Tebowing at Fouts
KRAM1 replied to MeanGreenATO's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Lame...you obviously are not aware of the crap people take for "showing" publicly their support for their beliefs such as Tim Tebow does. I have respect for anyone...any belief set...that has the courage to stand up (in a proper way) for that belief set. If you don't think it takes courage for Tim Tebow (and others) to do this, you might want to leave the house more often. Give it a try in a crowd of say...200-300 even and see what it gets yoyu...maybe at the mall....might change your attitude a bit. -
I sure hope UNT gets its legs and blows LSU out of the Super Pit Thursday. I'll definitely be there to see the action. But, this is a young team trying to find its way. LSU is also somewhat young, but seem to be playing at a bit higher level than the Mean green at the moment. T Mitch has missed some wide open shots and seems to be waiting for the lob pass which hasn't come very often as yet. CJ is doing a good job and Williams and Franklin seem to be gearing it up. BUT, it will still take time. Some of the passes we are seeing should never have been made, some of the shot selections are just crazy and they team has yet to find a set rotation. So, I am hoping that the Mean Green Nation is not expecting too much early on from this group. This is a very special group of players, indeed, and they will definitely achieve some great things together, but it is early...very early...and these guys are really still young and adjusting to the college game. LSU is not Sam Houston State, Jackson State or Grambling and should prove to be a real test for this young squad. Instead of looking for the "highlight reel" play each and every time down the floor they will need to play fundamentally sound basketball on offense...and a team offense...while still working hard on the defensive end. I have been more impressed with the defensive efforts so far than I have the offensive firepower. The offense will come and the defense will get even better. These guys knew they would eventually blow away Grambling...which they certainly did...LSU, well, that's another matter. Let's get a great turnout Thursday night. This is an exciting team and one everyone can be very proud of and super glad they are wearing the green of the Mean Green. The crowds have been pretty decent so far given that the students are out, but they will need all the support we can give them against LSU Thursday...I can assure you that there will be plenty of gold and purple in the Super Pit Thursday. Can UNT win this game...absolutely...will UNT win this game...perhaps....either way, it should be a great game to watch and should help our young team "grow-up" and prepare for the conference schedule. I can't wait for Thursday night at the Super Pit. It's great fun this year watching these young men play for UNT. It's going to be something special indeed...can you imagine what this team will be like in the months and years to come as they mature as college players and get a better feel for their teammates? WOW...just WOW! See you at the Super Pit on Thursday...wear green, be loud and be proud. Let's show our visitors from LSU that UNT is indeed, a team to be reckoned with!

Ahhhhh...great to see everyone still willing to tell the university and the athletic department what they SHOULD and should not do...and where they should and should not spend the critically few resources that it has. Always good to see that a North Texas tradition is alive and well.....all the while sitting on one's wallet and believing it is a job for someone else to help raise the funds to make it happen. With so very many priorities within the athletic dept. and so few funds to work with, there is no way that RV spends any money to upgrade the Super Pit. Any upgrades there will need to come from the university or some private donor. Folks, lots of things could be done to make UNT better, but it all takes $$$$ not just folks sitting back complaining or telling someone else what they should do. It is way past time that supporters of UNT step up and help make it happen. I know that many on this board are doing just that...they are providing support for athletics through the Mean Green Club, the Alumni Association and the University in general through their volunteer efforts as well as their money. But, even while Mean green Club memberships are up some 80% over last year and while Alumni Association membership is beginning to creep slowly up, there are still way too many who feel perfectly fine in sitting back and letting everyone else carry the load. It will not happen at UNT with that sort of attitude. UNT has seen a large increase in donations and the athletic dept. is seeing increased donations as well, but it still is far too little to do what needs to be done. In every project over the past few years, cuts have had to be made in order to be able to afford the finished project. I personally know of things that had to be cut from the Apogee budget to make it come in on budget. It's a matter of funding...and if you think that even a $25 dollar donation to Athletics or a single yearly membership to the Alumni Association, etc. will not make a difference, you are sadly mistaken. A single membership to the Alumni Association at about $45 counts the same as the $22million donation the university recently received when it comes to the "donors" count in the Tier One formula. A new Mean green Club member at any level also counts as a donor to the university. Support, at any level, helps and helps in a big way these days...lots of places to donate our very hard earned money these days...all I can ask and will ask is that you consider sharing a pert of those donations with UNT. You pick the area, you decide on the amount...it all counts and it all counts in a very BIG WAY. To all those that current support the university, I cannot thank you enough...in whatever way you support the university...that is your decision and none is any better than any other. It all counts. That being said, if you would like to see improvements in athletics, academics, facilities, support, Alumni Association activities, then you must get involved. UNT can no longer afford the "time honored UNT tradition" of letting someone else do it. The time is now...the time for all of us is now. Edit: Hmmmm...do some of my posts hit too close to home for some? If the shoe fits wear it. If my posting the need for support for UNT bothers you then maybe you need to look in the mirror a bit. Requesting support for UNT should not bother anyone. If you don't ask, you never get...if folks do not support UNT in much higher numbers and with more $$$, UNT will not be able to reach the heights all of us hope it will. Sorry to offend some so easily...is it a stick pig thing????

Any updates? I would think his commitment firm to UNT, but in this game of recruiting 18 year olds can do some pretty interesting stuff. I'll bet that Coach mac and his staff are all over this. I expect to see Chase wearing the Mean green Green! BUT, would sure like to hear that from Chase Walling......

Good stuff...thanks to Ben E. Keith for doing this...a rolling UNT billboard! I like!

Dale Hansen's Sports Special
KRAM1 replied to UNTflyer's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Well done Dale Hansen...we need more with the courage he had to come forward with this, but let's all hope and pray that courage comes while there is still time to save other kids from the same fate Dale Hansen suffered...and those at Penn State...and those of the Catholic Church and those in the shadows of everyday life all around the world. God Bless the Children, indeed! NEVER ever look the other way and NEVER ever think you have done what you should have done until the authorities (the law enforcement authorities) are involved and fully aware of the situation. Looking the other way, and thinking you have done enough, just will not cut it. Thanks, Dale...I hope your announcement will help some child come forward and some sexual predator gets what he/she so rightly deserve. -
Agree...really nice set up and the bacon wrapped duck and pears looked and smelled fantastic. Couldn't partake, but appreciated the offer, as my bride and I were heading over to the Mean green Room...didn't want to fill up before El Guapo's. ha! Really great seeing so many folks tailgating before a basketball game on a Sunday evening no less. Good chatting with you again, and thanks for being part of the tailgate and offering up those great tailgate goodies. Also...thanks for attending Thursday's Mean Green Happy Hour as well!

Great time last evening...I can only imagine how good this guy will be when all the rust is off and he has had time to work in practice more with the team.. Clearly a talent above everyone else on the floor for either team. A tad rusty, perhaps, but if that's "rusty" you can only imagine what the future holds. I'd hazard a guess that he will look even more "awesome" in Tuesday's game against Grambling after having a game and a couple of more practices under his belt... Be still my heart...this is going to be a fun ride that no fan of the Mean green should miss. But, all that being said...UNT has some other players on the court who will also "light it up" once they have a few more games of college experience....Jones, Williams, etc., etc. And, Alzee has really come alive...lots to like about these kids...the future is bright and the future may even get here sooner than some expect! Get those Sunbelt Tourney tickets and hotel reservations in Hot Springs NOW! We have ours! Well, the hotel reservation part at least...

Well, not much it seems according to some who post here, but it's Leach we are questioning here, not so much porn, and the folks he chooses to associate himself with... Still not UNT football related. Does this fact bother folks so much that they want to dis my posts? Why is that fact so hard to see? Just how does this relate to UNT football? Please do tell. I would have absolutely ZERO problem with this thread if it were not in the UNT football thread and in the "anything goes" thread where it belongs. If we have forum rules why are they not applied on a consistent basis? Does it depend on who starts the thread? If sop, just make that known and all is good...if not, what's the problem with moving this thread to the area in which it rightly belongs. Amazing how this is so hard for some folks to grasp as seen in all the "dis approvals" of my plea. Also...just to be sure.....one is often known by the company they keep. Good job Coach Leach.
