  1. Wikipedia? Seriously? You do know how Wiki works, right? Here I give you props about even knowing anything about SOPA and you come abck with more Comedy central. Just where do you get all your stuff?
  2. You may be a tad young, but that does not excuse the foul language on a public board. You could have made your point in a so much more professional way....
  3. I happened to have thought it was interesting research. Fully aware no college team is trying to sell on the open market. But there is some very interesting research here and some interesting rankings. Maybe I just like the "financial" aspect of the research. Thought it was interesting enough to post. Like you, I could CARE LESS what some random guy thinks of our program, but its interesting to me to see where UNT and the other Sunbelt teams are ranked here...along with the Big XII vs the SEC, etc., etc.
  4. WOW...got to give you props here for even knowing about SOPA! While your comments should be on Comedy Central, I give you credit for knowing about SOPA. Hmmmmmmmmmmm......
  5. Don't think anyone even paying half attention would not realize that Chris Jones has been the best newcomer on the floor for the Mean green so far this year, but Tony Mitchell had a fantastic game last evening...actually one of the best in UNT history. So, yes, i am excited as I, along with all other Mean Green fans, have been waiting for him to "arrive". This just may have been his arrival party, and none too soon at that. As many have said, it will take some time for this young team to find itself...maybe last evening was the breakout start to that "finding its way" thing. Sure hope so, as the future is very bright indeed if that is the case. So, while Jones has clearly been the better player so far, it seems we may have just seen the breakout for Tony... Remember, UNT was 1-8 at S. Alabama...tough place to play for the road team. Great win for the Mean Green.
  6. So......how did it go? Chase still committed to the Mean Green? Hope so....
  7. Good luck Coach Dodge. Beautiful area...not far from Austin...one HS town....seems like a great fit for Coach Dodge. I hope he helps Marble Falls do well. YES, let's beat SMU as well before heading to Marble Falls.....
  8. http://www.ibj.com/the-score/2011/10/12/college-football-financial-listing-reveals-winners-losers/PARAMS/post/30084 Well...if the link works, this is a great article on the "Financial value" of D-1 football teams as calculated by professor Ryan Brewer, ass't prof of finance at Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus. Texas comes in at #1 with a value of $805.1 million....want to guess where UNT falls? Drum roll please...................... $0 ! Yep, along with transfere a few others, UNT falls in at a value of $0 for its football team! Just remember that the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars recently sold for $45 million....let the comparisons begin. I hope the link works.
  9. Amen!
  10. I would definitely question his character. He signed a contract...honor the contract. I did not say he was of "low character"...I said that I would have issues with his character. Just like June Jones at SMU. I can promise you that if I were the AD at SMU, June Jones would no longer be the head coach at SMU. No threat...just plain facts in my world. No hard feelings...just don't let the door hit you in the rear as you leave. Clean out your office now and see ya! Everyone is "free" to choose what he would do and how that would be handled in such situations, and I am not saying that it is not "common practice" in the world of sports these days. Just saying, if you cannot be true to your word, for whatever reason...and if that "change" is due to your personal decision...well, yes, there is a character issue. AND, I see it as a problem through out today's society. So much so that many people see nothing wrong at all with going back on one's word to grab a "better deal". I was simply raised differently and raised my kids differently. You can choose how you want to handle your own situation.
  11. I'll be there...great location. Having the new stadium with the Club Level facility really opens things up like this for being on campus where they should be held. Glad to see that Mean green Club members get a reduced price of $10 instead of the "general public" $20. Another benefit of being a Mean Green Club member. Should be a great evening. Will be interesting to see how Coach mac handles a "signing day" event! Hope to see a big crowd.
  12. Correct. One has to wonder how long SLC will remain a one HS town. Some parents may get tired of seeing their sons and daughters not get the opportunity to play and/or receive scholarship offers since everyone goes to one HS. I know of kids who were very talented but never really got a look as they were playing behind someone with even more exceptional talent. I realize this happens at a lot of places, but a one HS town like SLC is the poster child for limited opportunity. If you are the elite player, it's a great place to be...if you are simply a very good player, who could develop with coaching and playing time, well, not so much. Just a thought after talking with several SLC HS parents over the years. But, you cannot argue with the success SLC has had, and it seems that success for the program overrides everything, including opportunities for players, in the SLC school district. Don't get me wrong, I am not anti-SLC. I think its a great program and sends a good number of kids to college on scholarship in lots of different sports. Just speculating how long the SLC system can survive with only one HS and the limited player development opportunities that provides.
  13. We disagree, Sir. While it happens all the time, it does say something about one's character whether you like it or not. I understand why it happens and accept it as a part of the recruiting "game" as coaches pull offers and kids de-commit on a regular basis. But, it does say something about one's character...both parties...if the coach pulls the offer it says something about the coach and the program, if a kid commits and then changes it says something about the kid. Just the way it is. While I respect that you can have the opinion you do, it tells me something that you believe it has nothing to do with character. When i give someone my word, i stick by it...even if "better" opportunities seem to arrive after the fact. It's a part of life one must learn and it's a weakness in our society today when folks start thinking it's just "they way it is". Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose...life can be that way. If a kid "jumps" at the first offer given just as an insurance policy, then he receives a "better" offer and changes, well, yes, it says something. In this case, good Dr. Suess, and I understand our vast age differences here, I have to respectfully disagree with you....life decisions can be tough sometimes. So what?
  14. Just what is your point with these continued references to the past and Coach Stephens? Do you have a point? The turn around in this program is obvious, and this loss is just that...a loss...so what? This team is moving in a positive direction under Coach Aston and has eraned both our support and respect.
  15. Well, for one of the few times ever I agree with you it seems. The "challenge" I have with some folks is that they "assume" that RV and his staff do not want the same thing and are not working on just that. A six game home schedule should, indeed, be the standard for ANY D-1 team, and i would be surprised if UNT wasn't looking to accomplish just that in all future years. The idea or belief that it was promised is simply wrong. The idea/thought that RV would not want the same thing is just plain ridiculous.
  16. Coach Dodge is still at Pitt and will be serving as the Offensive Coordinator in Pitt's upcoming bowl game.
  17. OK, then I am calling it right now...NATIONAL CHAMPION IS...drum roll please..... OKLAHOMA STATE UNIVERITY!......and, Since OSU got there already, Boone Pickens has decided to adopt UNT as his next project.....indoor practice facility here we come.....GO MEAN GREEN!
  18. I would seriously doubt that Coach Dodge would have any hard feelings about UNT to the extent that he would not help a player of his get a D-1 scholarship. The man does try to help his players move on to the next level as has been seen in his years at SLC HS. The guy is a professional and will certainly act in a professional manner. While some think local players will not come to UNT, I do think there is every indication that that may be changing a bit...slowly, and there will probably never be a flood of locals heading to UNT...there is no reason to think Coach Dodge would not help a player land that D-1 scholarship to UNT. I wish Coach Dodge well in his next position. Be it at the HS or College level.
  19. Hmmmmmmmmm...I resemble...errr resent that! Well played, Sir! HeHe!
  20. Agree 100% drex. Anyone who was lucky enough to experience the old pit and the MVC days is a lucky Mean Greener indeed. I still have great memories of that place actually vibrating with the noise...packed to the gills and loud as all get out. NO team wanted to come to the UNT Pit to play...Great stuff...great memories. While the Super Pit is fine, it cannot hold a candle (yet) to the atmosphere created by playing to packed houses in that old Pit. Be still my heart!
  21. The price would not be the same for a 5 game season as a six game season. Whoever doesn't understand that just doesn't understand basic math. And, saying that 6 games is the standard is not promising a 6 game schedule each and every year. While we would all like to see a 6 game home schedule each and every year, and while RV is trying to make that the standard, it is possible that we will not see it each and every year in order to get future accommodating schedules, etc. This could all be for naught if UNT finds a new conference with enough teams. It is in every one's best interest to have a six game home schedule. Why anyone would think RV is not working on just this issue is certainly naive or just looking to find something else to complain about since it is the off season.
  22. Silver, I do think you are on to something here. One reason I love college ball so much more than pro ball is the pageantry aspect of college ball. This sort of thing certainly helps and would, in fact, help attendance. I know of people who make sure they are in their seats at Ohio State games just for the band's entrance.... Pageantry folks...pagentry...Silver has a valid point, folks.
  23. I do not ever recall being promised a 6-game home schedule for every year in the future.
  24. No, not THOSE Cowboys, but rather the Okie State Cowboys. What a nice win for the Big XII last evening in the Fiesta Bowl. And, a pretty fun game to watch as well. When it mattered the most, the OSU boys found a way to get it done. Sure, I feel a bit sorry for the Stanford placekicker, but it''s all part of the game...can you make it happen when it matters the most? Last night, OSU did and Stanford did not! I did enjoy watching the #1 NFL draft pick play against that OSU defense last evening. Andrew Luck looks like the "real deal", and should be a lock to make a great NFL QB...especially with the brains to go along with the talent. So, if Alabama beats LSU...will the crying start in Stillwater? From the looks of it, not from Gundy or any of the OSU players. All their answers last evening and even before the game were focused on the task at hand and how happy they were to be playing in the Fiesta. Nice touch, I thought. And, on another note...EVERY Texas team in the Bowl season has won so far.....And the Big XII seems to be doing a pretty nice job this time around.
  25. Hmmmm....don't know what regent you are referring to, but my research shows that it is fairly common for universities to hire professional fundraisers when major projects develop. At least that is what I have seen from the three universities from which I have personally graduated. The fact remains, the naming rights were sold under RV's watch and within a very few months of the stadium's opening. Have you notice that Chancellor Jackson/ Pres. Rawlins also hired a pretty big time fund raiser recently? Gee, couldn't the current development staff at UNT have been able to handle it without the new "guy"? Your comment smacks of sour grapes. Maybe that "regent" you talk too should get up off his/her duff and find some donors instead of just talking about university business with you. By the way...Jerry Jones is still looking for a corporate naming rights partner of that new stadium of his...he keeps talking about the "economy" as the reason...well, UNT sold it's stadium naming rights in that same "bad economy" under RV's watch it seems. Sure, it will cost much more to name Cowboy Stadium, but seems the corporate benefits might be greater as well...do you think? So, sorry, Mo Green, my opinion stands. You are certainly welcome to yours as well. No problem. Nothing to be sorry about, guy.
