Come join the Denton Chapter of the UNT Alumni Association for a pre-game tailgate before the Middle Tennessee game on Feb. 2nd beginning at 5PM at the Alumni Association Offices. The Denton Chapter will be providing Hot Dogs, Chips and Beverages, so come on by and join the tailgate. If the weather is not "NICE" we will move the event inside the Alumni Offices...plenty of room...but, we hope the weather will cooperate and we can all TAILGATE OUTSIDE and get ready to help the Mean Green beat Middle Tennessee at 7PM. The tailgate will end at 6:30PM to give everyone plenty of time to get to the Super Pit for tip-off. THERE IS NO CHARGE FOR THE TAILGATE! We just ask that you RSVP so we can have a half-way decent headcount for the event. You can RSVP with a PM to me, through the Alumni Association's calendar of events area (it will be up soon for this event) or by calling the Alumni Offices at 940-565-3162 and leaving a message for Rob McKinney regarding your attendance. Hope to see you there as we support the Mean Green in their march to the Sunbelt Tourney and VICTORY! In addition...Mean Green Sunbelt Conference Tournament Coins will be on sale for those who have not been able to pick one up as yet. Supplies are limited, so don't wait as you might be disappointed...the coins are great looking and are on sale for $15 each. If you would like to reserve a coin, you may PM me and I'd be happy to reserve one or more of the remaining supply for you.

Can't ever get too worked up one way or the other during recruiting season UNTIL signing day...theses are generally 18 year old kids who are very impressionable and who often have parents who feel "entitled" and who think their kid is the next great NFL super star. So, none of this ever surprises me...saddens me a bit, sure as I am "old school" enough to still believe that my word is my bond, but today that whole "I gave my word thing" seems to have an entirely different meaning. So, I'll be there for the signing day event...then I'll get excited about who signs and disappointed that others did not. By the way...I just looked outside my office...the sun is up and it is shining.....

Well, sorry to hear that...but let me ask you this...why did you wait 25 min. in the first place? I would have simply gotten up and asked for some help...I know that's not what is supposed to happen, but I won't sit anywhere longer than about 5 min. without being at least recognized and see that the whole order process has started...even if it is crowded. No excuses for that...iuf I want to stay, I get up and make sure it happens, if not I leave and I sure don't sit around for 25 min. You have much more patience for this sort of rudeness than I do...if I were you, I'd not go back. Me, I have never experienced such problems as you have at Rooster's, but I give you an "A" for effort. They failed...not your fault...and like you, I do like the Love Shack as well. Thanks for trying it again...I think you should pass your comments along to the ownership at Rooster's...really.

Yes...it is confirmed. Rest in peace Coach Joe. It is a real shame that your career had to end the way it did. I hope folks will remember the many many good things you did for lots of players and their families and for Penn State and college football as a whole. Sorry to see it all end the way it did.

WOW...way to miss the whole point, Silver. But, good post anyway.....never said anything about not making adjustments or about not remembering the past...thought I said "dwell on the past" or something along those lines. Seems to be entirely different than you way you saw it...probably says something about our different perspectives on life, but, hey, good post...couldn't agree with you more, it just has nothing to do with what I said.

Yes, I realize that the mantra here on GMG.com has been "local players will not sign with UNT' for a long time and in the past that was pretty much the case, but as the old song goes..."the times they are a changin' " for the Mean green. In looking at the list in this morning's DMN (in the past I checked it out to see how Oklahoma State was doing...not any longer!) I noted to commits and one "still thinking but listing UNT first). They are: # 85 on the list - OL - Sam Rice from Coppell #89 on the list - DB - David Busby from Coppell and listed as still considering with UNT first... #91 on the list - Chase Walling out of Lake Highlands (we all know this story). OK, you can say three is not many (3%) out of 100, but it shows that this staff and this program will and do go after local talent and can be successful in getting local kids to commit to the Mean green. It may only be three this year (so far), but, like the basketball team, as this program gets better and better in the next few years, I think we'll see more and more local kids playing for the Mean green. One must start somewhere, and it starts with KNOWING you can get these kids to stay home...and in believing in the Mean Green Can't wait for signing Day...FEB. 1st. let's see a big crowd at Apogee for the Signing day event. It's going to be great fun!

Those years are over and gone. Time to move on folks. One problem lots of folks have is that they just can't "get over" the past and enjoy the present. This program is on the rise and the past is the past and no one can do anything about that. To dwell on it is not productive and a complete waste of time and energy. For me, the new era at UNT began with the hiring of Coach mac and the opening of Apogee stadium. The future is bright and it's all in front of the great Mean green nation. I, for one, will definitely enjoy the ride!

Well...you just can't fix stupid. Michigan did the right thing here....stupid. What a waste! I am sure he'll land somewhere else like Miami or Fl St....Could be a real "time bomb" for the school that is so desperate for talent that they take this kid on.....

It's OK Emmitt, Tasty has said it's OK to do this sort of things to threads...you know, just post around it. And, yet, once again a thread "hits the dust". But, it's really funny so that's OK.

Keystone Pipeline Decision

With his decision to placate the environmentalists over job creation, purchasing energy from a friendly nation that would help the US get off the Arab oil tit, and in once again, blaming someone else (this time Congress) for his decision, Obama has certainly created a nice political issue for the 2012 campaign. Great job, Mr. Prez...."Obama the jobs killing President"...I can see it now! Ha! Ain't politics great? It even trumps job creation in one of the worst economies in US history and it trumps finding another way to reduce the US reliance on Arab oil. Way to play politics over the best interests of the nation as a whole! Let's all talk a good game about reducing the US reliance on Arab oil as we can while acting in an entirely different manner. Well played, Mr. Prez! -

And, on the other hand...probably not the massive environmental disaster the environmental activists are claiming either...just to be fair here. -

Just asking here as I am not as big a pro baseball fan as many here...If Fielder is so good and "the money is there"...why is he still on the market after all these weeks/months? Oh, and why is Pujols signed sealed and delivered to the Angels? They could have signed Fielder for that kind of money. I have no dog in this hunt as, like I said, don't care that much about pro baseball, but I would like to hear more from what our baseball "experts" think. -
I certainly have/did...there are posters on that board that even keep giving me very complimentary "shout outs"...imagine that. At least that's what I am told...I've seen the site as a "visitor/guest" and have "recognized" several of those posting on that site even though they have changed their avatars to "hide their identity". It's open for all who care to venture over if you would like.

I think the operative words in what you have posted are "If a kid and his family agree to it". If that is the case, then I have absolutely no problems with the gray-shirt concept. That agreement between player and parents and school make it fine with me...with that agreement...I don't like it one little bit.

INDEED WE DID!

EXCELLENT...thanks for showing the interest. Your skills will fit right in!

OK, as much as it pains me to see these type of responses in this thread, I'll have to live with them as some just see this board as an outlet for their comedic alter-egos. So, let's press on here...while some have been finding time to post their zany and cute replies, I have been actually working on this event and trying to raise some cash for our Cheer Squad. The "good news" is that I talked with Roy Metzler yesterday (Metzler's BBQ and a big UNT supporter) and he has agreed to be our T-Shirt sponsor again this year! I cannot thank Roy enough for being willing to step up and help support this event again for the second year. So, we are off and running. I still would like to hear from anyone else out there who would like to help sponsor this event...at any level...AND, folks who might have something they could contribute to the silent auction. Auction items do not need to be Mean green Related...they can be anything of value that you might think someone would enjoy and bid on. Want some great BBQ? Please consider Metzler's...two Denton locations (Teasley Dr. & University Dr.). Let's support those folks who support us! Thanks. Anyone out there interested in helping with a sponsorship...ad for the event program/brochure or auction item? Just PM me with your contact info and I'll contact you. Thanks Roy...and thanks Metzler's BBQ.

I just hope the guy isn't the typical "Asian Pitcher" bust. I'll go with Nolan's knowledge and experience in that area until or if I see different in actual game performance. Reports say this guy is "different", but aren't they all? And, pitchers are handled so much differently in Japan (much more rest and much more throwing between games than in the US Bigs) that I do see some risk here...but, again...if Nolan likes it...I like it...FOR NOW! I am also glad to see the Rangers go after some pitching. They need it if they want to be competitive again this year fro the Crown. Don't want to see Fielder in a Ranger uniform. Can't see it for the money...I think the Rangers lose Hamilton if the get Fielder...maybe not this year, but Hamilton is probably gone if Fielder arrives. I'll take Hamilton. Just me. and...I am also not unhappy at all the CJ has moved along...good for him...not worth the $$$ to re-sign him. He'll be on the DL soon enough. -

Bad idea. And, Mr. O has himself in a bit of a box here between two of his biggest supporting groups...the environmentalists and Big Union. Of course he blames it on Congress..just when has this guy taken responsibility for anything of substance? But, it will be interesting to see what the "final answer" is on this deal...when it comes, we'll know who has more influence over this President...big union Money or big environmental money. Loved the "Gee, guys, I'm killing this thing right now because Congress didn't give me enough time to study it". What? Like it hasn't been around to study long????? And, like you don't have legions of staffers who do the "study" for you on every issue...just like every President? Really, you want us all to believe that? Just make a decision, tell us why and go on down the road. That's your job....you can play politics with it during the campaign for gosh sakes.... -
Ok, if ever the Mean Green needed the faithful to show up and be "loud and proud" this Saturday at the Super Pit may just be that time! Denver will be no "pushover" and this will be the first time on the floor against a quality opponent since the Jones/Williams news broke. It would be great to see a "Super Sized" crowd for this game. The students are "back" from break, so hopefully, they will turn out as well. BUT, we need to see as many alums and fans in the seats as possible...GOT an extra ticket? Please do all you can to see that it is used. I would think that JJ and Company would really appreciate seeing a BIOG crowd for the game Saturday. Besides, you can come early and watch the FIRST PLACE UNT Women play at %PM...and then stay to cheer on the men. A Mean Green Double Header....great! Hope to see you and a bunch of your friends at the game Saturday...come out and support the Mean green and have a great time doing it....bring the kids...family friendly atmosphere (unless you get them too close to the student section! ). Seriously...BE THERE!

Somehow I just knew all along.......... EDIT: In case anyone missed it...that was just susposed to be a joke...I know Silver gets it...
