Pretty loud group at times as well. Noon start may have hurt a little...some of the students were probably not even awake at noon yet!

Agree 100%. Great to see JJ get his 200th win, and I, too, hope he is coaching at UNT when he gets number 300...within the next 5 years I hope as well! He has shown the ability to do just that! Nice job by RV, and again it was pretty emotional for him. I am sure the academic issues of Jones and Williams were pretty stressful for everyone concerned the last couple of weeks. RV's emotions are pretty close to the surface on many occasions and I, for one, love to see this...it means a lot to him and it shows. Congrats to both RV and JJ. Also agree that it seems this team loves playing for JJ and UNT...good to see the student high fives after the games and they way these kids seem to genuinely like playing together. Good for them, good for JJ and good for UNT. It was a great day to be Mean Green today..two nice wins today at the Super Pit! Congrats to both the Mean green men and women...I enjoyed the day a great deal. Oh, good food from Smokehouse in the Mean green Room today between the games...that Smokehouse sausage is just great! Also told the BB band kids thanks on the way out...they do a great job. Love having them at the games...I am sure only a few heard me over the noise, but those that did seem to appreciate it....they do a lot to help the Mean green have a home court advantage.

This is clearly great news. Coach Aston has done a terrific job this season with many of the same player Coach Stephens had last season. It's obvious that the Mean green have one of the best coaches in coach Aston that have ever led the Mean Green...and I am not just talking about women's BB here. By hiring Coach Aston and Coach Mac, UNT has definitely seen an upgrade in the last two years to two of its major sports. When one takes a look, if they will take that look, UNT has the best HC staff overall that I believe it has ever had as a group. I am not knocking other great Coaches UNT has had, just mentioning that I believe that, as a group of HC's, it is the best "group" I have even seen in my 45+ years of following the Mean Green!

I know you are a tennis guy...maybe even a tennis hack...so will you be attending the tennis matches Saturday? Always good to have your perspective on the matches.

Well, it seems the US returned to Somalia with boots on the ground for the first time since 1993, and accomplished a daring rescue of an American, Jessica Buchanan and a Dane, Poul Hagen, being held since October by armed thugs. Nine of the thugs were killed with ZERO injuries to the rescue team or the hostages. GREAT JOB...very proud to know that we have such people so very willing to risk it all to do this sort of work. It's a great day...as is every day in my opinion...to be an American. Congratulations to Seal Team Six and the rest of the team that was made up of Navy and Air Force units. I am sure we will all hear more about this daring rescue as time goes on, but for now it is enough to know that the mission was a complete success and the hostages are safe. God Bless the men and women who make up our special ops teams...they are the BEST! I am in awe of these great Americans. CONGRATULATIONS AND WELL DONE!

Fielder to Detroit
KRAM1 replied to KRAM1's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Interesting thought. One does have to wonder at what point fans and owners of all the professional teams will find out just "how much is enough". I simply cannot believe that the free market is this crazy! -
In checking the tennis schedule, I noticed that UNT is playing at home this Saturday, 1/28...two matches: 11:00AM - against Stephen F. Austin 3:00PM - against Oral Roberts U I guess Mean Green fans will have to make choices Saturday...hopefully, each event will get a nice crowd. I'm going to try to catch some of the SFA match before heading over to the Super Pit. Love Coach Lama and how supportive he is of UNT in general and our other sport programs. The guy's a great coach and a great person.

Pessimist, optimist or realist...you have a valid point. Money will, in the end, drive this decision.

Riley Dodge - An Assistant coach at Marble Falls?
KRAM1 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Congrts to both Todd and Riley Dodge. I think it's great that a father and a son can love the game so much and share such a tight bond that they want to work together. I happen to think both will be transfere (edit: very) successful in Marble Falls and I wish them both nothing but the best. edit: sorry, i would never use the "transfere" thing on purpose.... -
WBB: Coach Aston Fundraiser this Saturday
KRAM1 replied to Green Dozer's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Thanks Dozer...I was aware of this Fundraiser and have already donated. It's a great cause and I am proud to know that we have another Mean green Coach who cares so much as to do something like this. Anyone who is able should consider logging on to that site and making a donation. I'm glad I did, and thanks for posting this. I hope she reaches...no exceeds...her goal. Lots of kids will be glad she did and glad some folks were able to help her reach her goal. Way to go Coach Aston! EDIT: Dozer...the link didn't work for me. But you can just log on to the site and go from there...I did. -
This forum is bordering on depressing right now
KRAM1 replied to emmitt01's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Exactly! It's human nature...some folks will immediately look to see the negatives while others find something positive in most everything. Just a matter of perspective. I agree with Emitt that it gets a bit depressing reading only the negative, but, we'll see all the "good news" on Feb. 1st. You got to "know when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em" when it comes to recruiting 18 year old kids and their parents. I, too, believe that Mac knows what he is doing and that UNT will have one of the best recruiting classes it has had in several years. Don't despair, come Feb. 1st we'll all know where the chips are falling. I'm thinking that the Mean Green's pot will be full! -
Agree 100%.

Well, suspense is over...prince Fielder has agreed to a $214 million deal with the Detroit Tigers. Is the guy worth $214 million? Could the Rangers have paid that much after signing Yu? So, baseball guys and gals....will this take Detroit to the promised land or will it hog-tie them like the A-Rod deal did for Texas for so long?
-
Not what's happening at all...sorry you want to try to make it into something it is not.....

Nice language there Rick...I hope your kids don't read the board...gee, surprise...you know who worked, helped organize and paid for that event at Metzler's. No one is defecating on anyone...you are really going overboard. And, I didn't notice you showing up at Metzler's so all you info is second hand...so, you really have no business even referring to that event. Coach Aston was VERY appreciative of that event...as was Johnny Jones and all the UNT Mean green Club staffers helping with the event....and, for your information...many of us from that event have been in attendance at more women's games this year than we have in several prior years combined...so, get off your high horse about this event having anything to do with defecating on Coach Aston or her program..Shame on you. Anyone is free to make of this event what they want...those of us who are working to put this event on will enjoy their time and enjoy being with those who do attend. Everyone is welcome. As I mentioned earlier, I'll keep one on ice for you, Rick and look forward to seeing you.
-
Women's soccer games are not scheduled like basketball is...don't see the connection. Sorry you feel that way....I'll keep a cold one on ice for you! And, feel free to blame me if you find the need to place blame on folks trying to do something in support of UNT and its fans. Happy to shoulder the blame....hope it makes you feel better.
-
Sorry you feel that way.
-
No question...winning helps a lot...but ask SMU if that's the only thing. Agree with the "win and they will come" attitude, but it doesn't seem to work for everyone, so let's not get complacent in our work to drive attendance any way possible.

As long as folks, wealthy or not, are following the law, I have no problem with any one's personal tax rate. Why the class warfare envy stuff? I don't get it. If you don't like the tax code, get it changed...I'm all in favor of a flat tax system...it would eliminate a ton of IRS folks, and tax attorneys...good deal! The problem is with the tax code, not the folks who work within the tax code to pay as little income tax as they are legally required to do. EVERYONE...and I mean everyone wants to pay fewer taxes when it comes down to it. The idea that "others should pay more" come from the folks who feel it's OK to pay more as long as they don't have to personally pay more. Ridiculous class warfare crap! Yes, even from Warren Buffet. Take a look at the charitable donations Romney made as well as his tax bracket. Check out the charitable donations of many of those rich folks you want to tax at higher levels. Then, go check out the contributions from many of the folks screaming for "others to do more" while they do less or nothing at all. Again, I could care less what you pay in taxes, not any of my business...what I see is my business is that everyone is following the laws and regulations pertaining to the tax code...and that they are actually filing a return. When I sit down to do my taxes I will look for every possible legal way to reduce my tax bill...every single one...and I will look twice and three times just to make sure I didn't miss anything. I'll then take out the checkbook and write that check as I grit my teeth knowing how much of that money is going to be wasted by sending it to Washington. It is what it is folks...worry about your own taxes...I'll worry about mine...good for Buffet, Gates, Romney and all the other rich guys...class warfare makes for great politics, but doesn't get much accomplished and has never led to helping me pay any of my taxes.

Just want to remind everyone that signing day is Feb. 1st. Until the recruits sign or do not sign I think it is a tad early to start "praising or criticizing" this year's class. Fun to "compare", fun to speculate, fun to get happy and sad, but "it ain't done until it's done" and until then it's all speculation. I don't think one should polish the trophy or moan and cry until all is said and done. Even then, it will be awhile until anyone knows for certain if that 4-Star recruit SMU stole is actually a college level talent or not...or that 3-star that UNT signed after some 4-star backed out...or even that walk-on (Delgado for one) that surprises everyone. We have all seen it time and time again...that can't miss 5-star just can't adjust to college and the college game, that 2-star adds 20 pounds and becomes a monster LB, etc., etc. Patience grasshopper, patience.

I should have some date/time/place info for everyone soon. I have a meeting scheduled for Feb. 1st with AD staff and the Cheer Squad folks so we should know something more soon as to date, etc. I still am looking for sponsors and ad buyers for the game/day program/brochure. I know several of you guys have businesses or work in businesses that might be able to sponsor or purchase ad space...it's not expensive at all, but any amount will really help the Cheer Squad and the Athletic Dept's overall budget... Here are the "opportunities"..... T-Shirt Sponsor (back of shirt) - $250.00 - SOLD - METZLER'S BBQ (thank you Roy Metzler) T-Shirt Front Shoulder Logo - $100.00 Game Day Program/Brochure: Inside Front Cover - $125.00 (full page) Inside Back Cover - $125.00 (full page) Back Cover - $150.00 (full page) Full Page Ad - $100.00 1/2 Page Ad - $50.00 1/4 Page Ad - $25.00 Half-Time Half-Court Shot Contest - $50.00 So, it shouldn't be too difficult to buy and ad, sponsor the t-shirt shoulder logo or half-time shot contest at the costs indicated. AND, it will go a long way to help our Cheer Squad with the costs they bear from their own personal budgets to help support the Mean Green. If you would like to help...send me a PM and we can discuss more. INDIVIDUAL CONTRIBUTIONS of any amount are also welcome...every dollar helps and is greatly appreciated. Harry will have a PayPal link up soon here on GMG.Com for individual contributions, or you can write a check and have that for your record keeping and tax purposes. Checks can be made payable to "UNT ATHLETICS". Questions? PM me...happy to talk with you....

Folks...I'm sorry, but, I started the thread to let folks know about a tailgate event sponsored by the Denton Chapter of the UNT Alumni Association on Feb. 2nd. I know it's hard, but in this thread could we try to stay on topic? Please and thank you. Plenty of other threads for general discussion purposes. If you have thoughts and/or comments about the Tailgate or if you want to RSVP for the event here or through a PM just let me know. Thanks to all and see you at the Tailgate! AND, yes, it is a Thursday game..

Much appreciate your response. Thanks. Got you down for two!

Nope...with a 5PM start to the tailgate one can come and go as they please....and they can go to the Mean Green Room as well if they so please. With different events at different times folks can select the ones they want to attend and the ones that best fit best within their personal time schedules and likes and dislikes. It's about doing what we can as a chapter, given the schedules of the limited number volunteers the Denton Chapter has, to have some fun and support the Mean Green. And, to, hopefully, maybe help get some folks to the game/s. If you know where the Alumni Offices are you know they are within easy reach of the Super Pit...so, attendees can come and go as they please. I'll definitely be catching some of the women's game, so I don't see it as much of a problem at all....at least for me. Sometimes, schedules just don't work out the way every single person would like them to work out and I can understand that. If the timing of this doesn't work for you, I will definitely understand why you will not be attending...It has absolutely ZERO to do with supporting one team over the other.
