  1. FOLKS...GREEN STREET is "IN"...we'll see a return of Green Street in this year's event. Thanks for coming back for Round 2... Lace 'em up!
  2. I was glad to hear RV mention the Jones/Williams grades fiasco last night at the Signing day event...he was SPOT ON WITH HIS COMMENTS... I paraphrase from what i can recall... There comes a time when young men need to do what they are supposed to do... The AD staff did what they were supposed to do, the academic staff did what they were supposed to do, the players did not do what they were supposed to do! At some schools the AD staff would have gone to the teachers and asked for a grade change..not at UNT...not any longer... This is all on those two players.. Mentioned he had a sit down in his office with each, and believes they got the message and will be better young men and better leaders as a result of this incident. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Really happy to see RV publicly balce the responsibility EXACTLY where it lies...even more happy that UNT values academics and does not pressure teachers to change grades for athletes (did not think they did, but great to hear RV state it publicly). These kids hurt themselves and hurt their team and hurt UNT by their very selfish actions. We'll now see if they "man up" or shirk away blaming others for their lack of maturity. I hope they accept responsibility as well as Tony Mitchell has and turn this thing around to the benefit of all concerned. GREAT COMMENTS FROM RV LAST NIGHT!
  3. I am exactly right there with you in this! I cannot tell you how great it is to have you, Mrs. Smoothfresh and little Master Smoothfresh as part of the Mean Green family. To have "adopted" UNT they way you guys have and embraced the school and the program is absolutely fantastic. You have made me look favorably upon those K-State Wildcats as a result! It was a great event last evening and the energy in the room was simply electric. Now, we need the City of Denton and all the Mean green Alums...AND STUDENTS...to get behind this school and this program. Time to get on the train...it's leaving the station and heading BOWL BOUND!
  4. Won't it be two years old when he plays in it? Yes, SIX CLUB SEATS...now that's commitment. Congrats to Dustin and welcome to the Mean green nation. To Mr. Clark I say THANK YOU VERY MUCH for you commitment to helping UNT move forward. We need more parents of scholarship players to support the program financially at whatever level they can. This is making a statement! THANK YOU, Sir. cannot wait to meat you in person and to thank you in person.
  5. Emmitt...priceless! +1 for you sir...I think that about says it all...have no desire to see this kid in Mean Green Green! But, yes, his Dad was some player......agree there as well.
  6. Seems to me that the Mean Green got bigger, faster and stronger yesterday. Given the fact that we have seen with our own eyes what this coaching staff can do to help players play better and get stronger, I'll let the experts here on the Mean Green staff evaluate the players they signed. Me, I'll enjoy the improvement I see starting with Spring Ball in about 8 weeks. People who write this class off as a "D", "C-" or even an "F" before they even play a down of D-1 ball, and start all the comparisons with other programs are just spitting in the wind and playing the same "UNT is a joke" routine that has been played...even by some of our "so called" fans...for way too long. Interesting to see some of the folks that like to call for RV's head, and seem to complain even about the sun rise because the light shines in their eyes, but never give credit where credit is due attending the signing day event last evening. They all had opportunity enough to ask some pointed questions of Coach Mac, RV, etc. during the question portion of the event, but strangely remained silent. Imagine that! But, were more than willing to go up and chat up the coaches, etc. Like Coach Mac said...time to stop seeing UNT as a "laughing stock"...time to start being proud of UNT because UNT is moving forward...like it or not and whether everything is done exactly as some think it should be done and when they think it should be done...UNT IS INDEED MOVING FORWARD. The crowd was great last evening. Really good to see the support building...now as RV mentioned...the students need to get off their collective asses and help fill Apogee on game day! ha! Got to love that quote from RV. GREAT NIGHT...simply great! An honor and a pleasure to have been able to attend.
  7. Tony...I hope I get to say hello. Welcome home! We have missed you!
  8. Aztecskin...indeed you did play last year...glad to have you back for round 2...do you still wear a MEDIUM T-shirt? I recall that's what you ordered last year....
  9. Thanks, harry, for all your work on this.... Looks to me to be a solid overall class for the Mean Green. Loved to see the emphasis on the defensive side of the ball. Coach Mac said they signed everyone they expected to sign, so that's a good thing...even held onto Connor Trussell after a late attempt from SMU last evening. Should be lots of fun at the signing day event this evening...hope to see everyone there! It's a great time to be a proud member of the Mean Green nation!
  10. BOWL BOUND INDEED! Got to know that Coach Mac, his staff and these players will definitely get it done....congratulations and welcome to the great Mean Green Nation. Very excited to have Connor wearing the Mean Green green! Thanks so much for placing your trust and faith in both Coach Mac and UNT as the place for Connor to not only play but receive a wonderful education. I can tell you that Connor and you have made a great decision. Welcome to the Mean Green nation!
  11. Just a little bit of correction here UNT90...the guys playing name was ECHO and he is the brother of a current TWU player...Raquel Cuffie. Raquel played at UNT last season, but has since transferred to TWU to continue playing. Raquel's mom, Terri, was very very helpful in planning working this game for us last year. We could not have raised as much $$$ for the cheer squad as we did without her great ideas and help. I miss working with her on this year's event already. Raquel was also instrumental in getting our men basketball players to come out and ref and watch which made it an even better time...remember Josh and george lauging as they watched us run up and down that court? The same guys who had all the comkments about their play...Ha! Priceless. And, raquel also refereed for us... Great times, indeed. Had so much fun that I decided to come back and do it again...
  12. Must say I was thinking this same thing when I started reading this thread...let's get some spring ball started so we can see where the progress has been made...should be some definite positives from out last class of redshirts, walk-ons, etc., etc. Not to mention some bigger, faster and stronger scholarship players after another off season of workouts under Coach mac and Co. Good point, Silver...good point.
  13. OK, in the hopes that it will make it a little easier for folks who are "not local" or who would simply like to donate to the UNT Cheer Squad GMG.COM BB game fund-raising event, there is a PayPal site/button up on GMG.com's forums page . The donations button was just created by harry for the event and it has been tested and is working properly. As you can see from the site, we have set a goal of raising a MINIMUM of $500 through this vehicle...so, if you would like to help...please click on the link and donate at any level you would like and feel comfortable in doing. Any donation, at any level, would certainly be appreciated and 100% of the proceeds go the the UNT Cheer Squad! If you do not like using on-line payment systems, please PM me and I will provide an address for you to use in mailing a check. Thanks for your consideration of help with this event. More info to follow as it becomes available... PLAYERS...we need players.....don't miss this chance to have a great time and to help some Mean green students along the way. Every dollar helps....
  14. Thanks, harry...I've got you down. Also wanted to point out the METZLER'S BBQ logo on the page...ad banner thingy...Roy Metzler, with Metzler's BBQ has again agreed to be one of our sponsors. We will, as we did last year, hold our after event "gathering" at Metzler's BBQ on Londonderry lane just off Teasley in Denton. Good cold beer and great BBQ...so make plans to head over to Metzler's again this year after the event...we will conclude our silent auction bidding at that time as well. Really appreciate Roy Metzler and Metzler's BBQ for stepping up to help once again this year. Roy is a great supporter of UNT and UNT Athletics. Stop by Metzler's when you have a chance and have a bite and a drink to support a great local restaurant and a great member of the Mean Green Nation...thanks so much Roy and Metzler's BBQ!
  15. Agree, but there seems to be a bit of a challenge with having individual players with current eligibility sign items for re-sale...even if the sale is for a charity/fund-raiser for the school itself such as ours...I tried that last year with both the BB and the football games.
  16. EXACTLY...to get hung up on star ratings at this point is really a tad silly. I think we all would like to have 20+ 5-star rated kids signing tomorrow so we could puff our collective chests out and say..."look at us", but that will not be the case. I am pretty darn pleased with the commits UNT has right now...we'll see how many sign tomorrow...then we will all have a much better feel for the POTENTIAL of this class...that's all it is folks, potential, until they put the pads on, decide mentally that D-1 football is for them, get used to college ball and college academics, handle Coach Mac's in-and-off season programs and go out and play the game. If POTENTIAL were all that mattered UT would have a recent string of national championship banners hanging in Austin! From what I have seen so far, Coach mac and Company know what they are doing. I'll leave it to them to get all they can from the entire team and develop UNT's so-called "lower star and no star" recruits into actual 5-star players!
  17. OK, if you can't play...how can you help with this event? Well, there are several ways... 1) Make a donation....you can simply make a cash/check donation in any amount that you are comfortable with...Checks should be made payable to "UNT ATHLETICS" with UNT Cheer Squad on the memo line...you can mail them to me (PM me and I'll give you my mailing address) or hand them to me at an upcoming BB game. 2) Buy a game day T-Shirt - we will have game day t-shirts available for sale...but only through pre-order ... simply cannot foot the bill this year for folks who ordered t-shirts, never paid and never picked them up like last year....so, just post here on the thread if you would like a shirt...provide your size...mail me the check (PM me for address) payable to "UNT ATHLETICS" with UNT Cheer Squad on the memo line...or hand it to me at a game or just pay in cash...either way is fine...shirts for non-players are priced at $20/each.... 3) help with a silent auction or two or three...if you have something in mind, PM me and we can discuss details...we need silent auction items...PLEASE! 4) Advertise your business in the game day brochure...prices listed in a previous post in this thread...very inexpensive way to both advertise your business AND support this benefit game. 5) Sponsor the half-time half-court shot contest...see previous thread... 6) Show up and watch the game on MARCH 31st...make a donation at that time, but a soft drink or snack...etc. OR, just show up and have some fun watching the game and attending the after-game event at Metzler's BBQ. Bring the kids...they love watching Dad...and Mom play! YES, the game is co-ed and open to anyone wishing to participate....
  18. Congrats, Micah. The Mean green nation will miss the opportunity of seeing you play. Sorry about the injuries, but you handled it like a professional....hope to see you back at UNT for some games this fall.
  19. Well, I agree to an extent. You need to not only listen BUT research on your own and discover as best you can of what the candidates are saying is, in any way, factual. The facts are out there...not always easy to find, but MUCH more accurate than just listening to the parties/sides/outlets. One, in order to actually be an informed voter, needs to do much more than listen to the talking heads...of either side.
  20. Agree...signing 18 year old kids is a "crap shoot", and some will pan out immediately, some will never pan out and some will take a year or two to develop. If anyone thinks this is easy stuff...check out the Dallas Cowboys draft prospects the last few years. Coach Mac and his staff have already shown the ability to weed the chaff from the straw and to actually get more out of some players than a few of us thought possible. The best in these players is yet to be seen, and we haven't even seen what the red shirts might be able to do starting this season. UNT has a great staff of coaches overall and they appear to be fully capable of developing players and picking ones that will fit into their system. Will they miss on some...ABSOLUTELY. The are no guarantees in this game. Time will tell, folks, time will tell...for me...so far so good. Bring on 2012! See you at the Signing Day event Wednesday!
  21. Thanks, THOR...got you down...the first full and official "yes" posted. What T-Shirt Size this year? Folks, check your calendars and let us know that you'll be playing this year...it's a ton of fun and for a great cause. I also need two to volunteer as coaches for the game...these can be non-playing coaches...so, if you don't want to or cannot play, you can definitely join in the fun as a coach...playing or non-playing coaches welcome! You get the shot at the player draft as well...so, who wants to coach this year????
  22. We now have a date, place and time. Had to arrange this around facilities schedules, other UNT activities, spring break, etc. So, with the help of several AD staffers I am ready to announce that WE ARE ON!!!!! DATE: March 31 TIME: Doors open at 10:00 am.....Tip off at 11:30 am Place: UNT VOLLEYBALL GYM - UNT Athletic Village So, now we need players. Playing fee again is $ 25 per player which includes the player game shirt. If you would like to play..please sign up here listing some playing stats for the player draft. Anyone want to captain either side and help draft players, etc.? I'll post more info as I have it. Need players, sponsors, donations, help in running the show. PM me if you can help in any way...please sign up ASAP if you want to play as there wil be a player sign-up deadline. I also need your T-shirt size if playing...if you would like to purchase a game day shirt but cannot play, I'd be happy to order one for you....$ 15.00. Just let me know.....
  23. Chase who? Really, it is what it is..he made his choice. I hope it works out for him. He will not be part of the Mean Green Nation, so, for me...who cares any longer? Time to move along....I think UNT will be more than fine with the kids who sign with UNT because they want to play for UNT and not because it was their fallback position. Good luck Chase.....see ya. Who cares?
  24. Now, that's funny Tasty! I even get it!
  25. Looks like a "good get" by Coach Mac and Co. Welcome to the Mean green nation. Another "local kid" looking to play for the Mean Green. Great to see this. he'll get to play in front of lots of friends and family at Apogee! Looking more and more like a very nice Signing Day haul for the Mean Green. See you at the party at Apogee! Remind me...who is this Chase Walling guy???? Hey, here's hoping they both sign with the Mean green. If not, I'll take the kids who WANT to be part of the Mean Green Nation.
