  1. Main campus is running out of room quickly. Collin County is one of the fastest growing counties in the nation. UNT main campus has little to no room for new programs and departments. I could go on.....
  2. We’re not these fees involved last year as well? Absolutely fine by me...bargain for sure.
  3. So, is it really a commitment when you say things like, “I am verbally committed, but I am still open in case God offers me another situation that I feel better about”? I think not. The kid wants UNT to be a “place holder” for him and he has said as much. I hope he does eventually sign with the Mean Green, but in no way is he currently “committed” to the Mean Green. In fact, I would say that, as of now, he’s playing UNT. I hope the coaching staff proceeds exactly as young Mr Johnson has and continues to recruit running backs.
  4. You know what??? John Hedlund is not the most "personable" coach going either and can be pretty tough on players and parents, but his record stands for itself. He CARES about his players and wants them to be the best they can be...and he gets a lot of "local" recruits. Coach Hedlund gets great local players because he has built a winning program. A program that quality local players want to play for during college. It was not always this way. It takes time...it takes a coach that stays long enough to build such a program. It takes resources, it takes work. This "international student vs local" is always intriguing to me. Take a look at our tennis team if you want to see a program loaded with internationals. Why? Well, I asked Coach Lama that very question...his response? Local (US) players ranked high enough to compete at the level the program would like do not, as yet, want to come to UNT. Why? The program has not won enough and is not "known" enough as yet as a top US program. There are so few highly ranked US players in HS that the top programs can scoop them up leaving the lower ranked US players for programs like UNT at this point. So, you go international and recruit players over the internet based on their international rankings...at least that is where the recruiting game for our international tennis players starts in most cases. The same can be, for the most part, said for golf. UNT used to be a "destination" golf program for the best local golfers around. Not the case right now. However, that IS beginning to change...with the help of a great new facility for golf, some success on the course and some increased support from the Athletic Department (along with some donor support). Once UNT starts winning on a more consistent basis and getting the team...as well as individual golfers...into the NCAA's things will change and more ranked "local golfers" will want to play for UNT. The idea that the coach is tough or rough on players and their parents is a "problem" only for as few. If you think it will be a reason the program never wins you are sadly mistaken...want proof? Check out Okie State's program under Mike Holder. Holder had a reputation as one of the toughest and no nonsense coaches in college golf...tough...very...on his players and parents alike. But, OSU won...still does...and players, both local and international flocked to the program. Want to read a great golf book that talks about Holder and the OSU program...and a local donor Family and players as well? Check out "The Last Putt" by Neil Hayes and Brian Murphy. The sub title is" Two Teams, One Dream, and a Freshman named Tiger". Great read about the Stanford and OSU golf teams and the stark differences between the two head coaches and their approaches to building championship programs. In it you will also read about "international players". OSU has utilized quite a few (and still does), It traces the 1995 year that changed college golf. Great read regarding the Woods family and the Kuehne family Anyway...the book is out of print, but can probably be found where I found it...Amazon's book search site....if you are interested. Is Brad Stracke the coach to lead us back to national prominence? I have no clue, but I do know the program has moved in a winning direction since he came to UNT. The internal workings I know nothing about, but I do know that the results, be they due to local or international players, are moving in the right direction once again. Time will tell if Coach Stracke is "the guy" or not. But, if he isn't it will not be because he did not recruit "local players" or that he has a reputation as a "tough coach to deal with" from a HS coach standpoint. Win more CUSA championships, get to the NCAA's more often, get more of your player to the PGA Tour, etc., and the "gee the local HS coaches and local players don't like him" stuff falls by the wayside because UNT has become a destination program...like Okie State before Holder...during Holder...and after Holder.
  5. Could you explain this “tops in CUSA” thing? I have been to their facilities. What do you see that makes them the “clear” top in facilities and “academics”. I get the budget part. The other two seem to be a big stretch. Thanks.
  6. Ha! Ha! You must have missed the part where I said I had no problem with him speaking on campus...unlike the real “snowflakes” who ran to their campus safe places while Trump spoke off-campus. You, Sir, might just need a remedial reading comprehension class. I hear the local Juco offers one.
  7. Beto O’Rourke to make campaign stop at UNT today.....on campus! A Democratic nominee for the US Senate making a pointed and official “campaign speech” ON CAMPUS property. Oh, the outrage!!!!! Where are the professors starting petitions, calling for the event to be cancelled, calling it outrageous???? Where are all the Daily editorials opposing it???? Anyone else see a big reason why not? Ha! I have absolutely ZERO problem using UNT resources for this event....NONE. Just like I had ZERO problem with the son of the president making a non-campaign speech raising scholarship funds at an OFF-Campus facility. But, even though, different in scope and sponsorship and purpose, the “quietness” of folks on campus surrounding this obvious pointed political appearance is more than a little ironic. Oh...and really humorous as well. One wonders just how much in campaign dollars O’Rourke will raise for himself and his personal campaign related to this event vs how many scholarship dollars were raised by the off-campus event? Oh the outrage...UNT will never recover because someone made a speech!!!!! What has happened to our beloved University! Oh, the outrage and humiliation. We shouldn’t ever have considered playing a football game at Beto U either.....oh, wrong outrage. Just having some fun this morning....you folks carry on! 😂😂😂
  8. Hmmmm...Ha! Ya think???? Had not thought of that. 😂😂
  9. Been playing for over 60 years and have NEVER had a hole in one. Still trying.......
  10. So, the numbers are in and we raised, with your help, $4312.00 this year for these great student-athletes. That brings our total to over $35,000 raised since we started the Basketball Classic 8 years ago. So many people have been instrumental in making this event a bit of a success. Our sponsors, our players, our donors, our silent auction item donors, the Cheer parents, Athletics, Student Affairs, our volunteers and our bidders and spectators, on and on! The Mean Green family is the greatest! Thanks to one and all...see you next year for year 9!
  11. So, help us decide where we go next. The Cheer/Spirit Scholarship BB game was a success again this year, but much more challenging to bring in players and spectators than in previous years. Both are super important to our success. So we are thinking that maybe it is time to look at a new format...help us decide... EDIT: Yes, I realize "decide" is misspelled in the poll section. Sorry about that...fat thumbs...but just pretend I spelled it correctly and help us out with your vote...please and thank you!
  12. I so so hope you are correct about these two games! Make it so!
  13. Correct! People that overlook Liberty because, for whatever reason, they do not like the University itself, are in for a rude awakening. The Liberty program, while newish, is a legit D1 program with nice facilities and donors willing to step up and make them even better. I fully expect UNT to win, but would not fall done in complete shock if UNT lost at Liberty's place this season. I am thinking of going to this game just to see what this Liberty U thing is all about. I have driven by the campus and saw the stadium...both campus and stadium both larger and more impressive than I had imagined.
  14. Steps in the right direction.
  15. Donor Society Parking Passes (bring one for your dashboard if you have one folks), download the UNT Parking App and park on Highland...I think something like $2.25/hour...or Park at Fouts....about all I can think of. I worked hard to get the UNT cops to give us a break, but as yet...no luck. Seems odd that they would not yield for donors, sponsors, etc. I am keeping fingers crossed that I will hear before the day ends something more positive.
  16. HEAD'S UP EVERYOINE....as of 1:30pm on Friday, 4/13...I still do not have official confirmation that the UNT Police will "play nice" and not ticket along Highland Street during our event. I am still working on it, but official confirmation is not looking good at this point. Please obey all regular traffic rules and parking rules on the UNT campus just to be safe.
  17. CAUTION...CAUTION...As of now (Fri..11/13...1:30 pm...I do not have confirmation regarding parking on Highland Street. Soooo, we have to assume the UNT police WILL be enforcing parking regs along Highland and in surrounding lots...FOUTS will be your best bet to be safe...unless you have a UNT parking sticker for some other spot. Still working on it...but needed to let everyone know the status. Ha! Ha! If whoever gave me the -1 thinks they can do better with the UNT cops...please do! I need your help.
  18. CAUTION! As of now...11/13...we DO NOT have confirmation that the UNT Police will not be ticketing folks parking on Highland...just a head's up...still working on it, but no word as yet. We cannot find where the hold-up is a this point...but be aware...police might be enforcing parking regs.
