  1. Ok, so at this point I am a bit disappointed in the Mean Green Nation. Absolutely ZERO response to date regarding this charity event for the Cheer Squad through the GMG.Com PayPal site other than the initial $25 donation made a couple of weeks ago. What's up with that? Are you telling me that the Mean Green Nation doesn't care? I don't believe that for even one second. The thread has had almost 90 views with ZERO replies which have resulted in ZERO additional donations through the GMG.Com PayPal site. AMAZING...folks, even $5 would help. Lots of talk here on GMG.com over the years about supporting UNT and UNT students...seems to me that this is an opportunity to actually do that in a very direct way. ALL PROCEEDS go directly to the UNT Cheer Squad...these students get ZERO scholarship money and actually SPEND a decent amount of personal funds supporting UNT and UNT Athletics. I really don't know what to say about this lack of support at this point other than to hope that folks are just waiting until it gets a bit closer to the March 31st game date to help. This is NOT a case when the recipients of this fund-raiser are just sitting back and letting everyone else do the work...NO WAY...these students are out selling ad space and helping to raise sponsorship dollars. Even some of the Cheer Squad parents have volunteered to help with the event and the Cheer Sponsor/Coach is working hard to promote the event. The Cheer Squad will, once again, be participating on game day as well. Really...what's holding you back? Surly it's not the amount of the ask...as the ask is just for whatever amount you feel comfortable in giving..... OK, that's it, really don't know what more to do here to "arouse" the great Mean Green nation to act in support of these deserving students.... To those who have stepped forward to sign up to play and to those who have stepped up as sponsors and as individual donors and as silent auction donors, all I can once more is THANK YOU!
  2. I'm definitely in for a few copies! Let's get this done...question is...how do we keep up on the progress as to how to order, pay, etc.? I'll do my part...let's make this happen!
  3. The Mean Green Nation anxiously awaits your return Coach! Great news indeed!
  4. And...in the announcement Monday about the new five year plan for UNT, President Rawlins stressed that UNT would be raising it's entrance standards. Good news.
  5. Folks, perhaps you have not seen the PayPal site set up to help support the UNT Cheer Squad through this year's MEANGREEN.COM Basketball game. I thought i might just try to bring it to your attention once again in the hopes that we can get some support for the Cheer Squad going. The site was set up about 10 days ago (at least) and we still have only raised $25 toward an on-line goal of $500 through that site. PLEASE think about supporting the great students who do so much in support of UNT...not only in the athletic arena but in the community service area as well. Folks, these students ARE NOT on Cheer Squad scholarships. At this time UNT does NOT offer scholarships for Cheer Squad members as many other universities do...so, they must bear the financial costs of their education along with the personal time and $$$ commitment that comes with being a member of the Cheer Squad. I know that a small $5-$10-$25 dollar donation does not seem like it would do much good, but, believe me, it will and it will add up! We hope to raise at least $4000 for the Cheer Squad through this year's event...last year we raised a little over $2000. The Cheer Squad members are busy selling sponsorships and ads for the event as well as finding items for our silent auction, but they need your help as well. If you can donate, even a little, it would be greatly appreciated...or if you can provide a silent auction item, buy an ad for your place of business (ads start as low as $25) or provide a level of sponsorship for the event (sponsorships start as low as $50) it would indeed be appreciated. OK, I hope some of you are seeing this for the first time and will step up to help a bit at any level. If you need info on ad sales or sponsorships...just PM me... Thanks to all who have signed up to play, to those who have sent sponsorships and/or purchased ads for the event...you are appreciated more than you know. Please know that this isn't about any of the folks working to put this event on...both inside and outside the athletic dept.....it's about helping some very worthy UNT students, so please let that help in your decision as to whether you will help or not. Thanks to all...GO UNT CHEER!
  6. WOW! Some really amazing stuff here. I attended both the reception prior to the event and the event itself yesterday, and I can tell you it was a great day to be part of the Mean Green Nation. If you were lucky enough to have been able to be in attendance yesterday and came away with any feeling other than pride for UNT you may want to check into the nearest mental ward as your "positive self" is definitely missing in action. Yes, I had a small twinge when I saw the "albino squirrel" shown with some of our other great "traditions" such as Boomer...yes, Boomer was given its due in the presentation as well it should have been...so, instead of focusing on the darn squirrel, I choose to focus on the vast majority of the event that was so very positive. I think I may have been witness to a defining moment in the history of our great university. The folks I saw and talked with after the event were all smiling pretty broadly. Why people want to focus so very much on the negatives that they perceive in everything...even in such a great event as I witnessed yesterday...is really a bit beyond my scope of understanding. Sometimes people miss out on so much fun and positive "stuff" because they are just too busy trying to find something...anything.... to criticize. Pretty amazing to me, but everyone gets to find their own place with things.....that I do understand.
  7. Perhaps a few of our fans should take on Coach Mac's positive attitude and find the positive in whats going on at UNT a little more often! This is great GREAT news about Coach Mac. The guy is incredible and the Mean Green Nation is lucky to have Coach Mac leading the way for the football program. I hope he leads the way for as many years as he cares to do so, and that it is for many successful years to come... GO COACH MAC...GO MEAN GREEN! Here's keeping you in my thoughts and prayers....go get 'em Coach Mac!
  8. Had you been as fortunate as I was to actually attend the event yesterday, you would have heard Lane Rawlins mention athletics on more than one occasion and would have seen athletics proudly displayed in the video presentations. I agree, you need to look no further than what I head from the President's own mouth yesterday in both the reception prior to the event and in the main event itself. Sometimes, believe it or not, a newspaper article does not contain 100% of the details of an event. It was a great day in the life of UNT and could well go down as one of the positive defining moments in its long and proud history to date. I felt both honored and privileged to have been able to attend this event and presentation. It was handled very professionally and included presentations from some of our student leaders as well as administrative leadership. It was important enough on a day when RV had some serious personnel and medical issues to deal with in the news of Coach mac that he was in attendance for both the reception prior to the event and for the event itself. This WAS a big day for UNT, and one that should help guide UNT forward for many years to come.
  9. Always great to read these threads and see how positively some of our own talk about UNT. While bad mouthing UNT, it's leadership and its "perception" on almost a daily basis in this very public forum they call for the University leaders to go public with the negotiations and to be "positive and spread the word". You know..."you guys go public very positively while I sit back here on this public forum and pick apart everything you do because I sure know much better how to do things". Really? Had much experience working in D-1 athletics with public budget constraints, have you? I know drex has and I take what he says with some knowledge that he has "been there/done that"...for many others, well...not so much. And, some wonder still why UNT has the reputation some think it has on a national basis. Wow...just take a look in the mirror and you can see part of the problem and very little of the solution. If one really...I mean really thinks the university is sitting on its collective hands and doing nothing regarding the conference realignment mess, if they think the AD has a meeting every Monday morning and asks his staff and coaches, "OK, how can we screw something up this week" and if one does not think everyone is working toward building a bigger and better UNT then I have to question where the heck they have been over the last few years. I understand that some folks are simply pessimistic by nature and see "bad around every corner", but some of this stuff borders on just plain self-pity and self-flogging. Everyone, including me, has their own ideas about how things "should" be done, what can be done to promote the university and the athletic programs more, knows more than anyone in the athletic department how to run the Mean Green Club (heaven help us that they don't announce the caterer a week before every game...major disaster...how can we actually live through that?), etc., etc., but many of those opinions are only that...opinions based on little, if any, fact or knowledge of how, why what can be done and what the benefit/reward is for doing so. This forum is, indeed, for opinions and as such, all are welcome...and really, none are probably any better or any worse than any other, but I ask everyone...stop and think about it a little longer before you decide to come on this very public forum and bad mouth YOUR UNIVERSITY and its leadership. If you think sitting behind an Avatar makes you "invisible" to those you are knocking and to the University leadership you are sadly mistaken. There are no secrets here...or in any other "social media" site...if you don't realize that, by now you should...and it doesn't make it any different if you post with a different avatar in a different site...silly you if you think you are anonymous in any way shape or form...or forum for that matter. Just asking for a little restraint and thoughtful consideration before constantly going public with all you think is wrong with UNT and/or its athletic programs/department/coaches/players.
  10. We are keeping you and Margy and the entire family in our thoughts and prayers. Get well soon Coach Mac. The entire Mean green nation is pulling for you to be back running up and down the Wing Zone at Apogee soon. BUT, not until you are 100% again...don't push the recovery...your health is the most important thing right now. Plenty of great assistants to hold the fort down until you return. We miss you and are praying for a speedy and full recovery...go get 'em Coach Mac!
  11. Thoughts and prayers go out to Coach Mac and family. Here's hoping the incident was a very minor one and the tests being run will determine how this can be prevented going forward. All that matters now is for Coach Mac to fully recover...and to fully recover ASAP! Thoughts and prayers for Coach Mac, Margy and the entire McCarney family...GET WELL ASAP!
  12. Great news after some very bad news. Will keep Coach Mac in my thoughts and prayers.....here's praying that, if true, it was a very mild stroke...a little warning sign to take better care perghaps. Thoughts and prayers go out to Coach Mac and his family.....Get well quickly, Coach. Your health is the very most important thing...think of nothing more right now....
  13. Touchy today Harry are we? I have not taken any offense from Coffee & Tea's bantering back and forth...it's called opinions...but if you say so.....Lots of monitoring needed if this is what qualifies for "personal" these days....sigh...oh, well, your rules..OK by me. EDIT: Wow...tough crowd today....touchy feely...let's all just hold hands and sing Kum By Ya or something....
  14. Way to go Monica....great job...making the Mean Green Nation proud!
  15. Or, perhaps speaking from a position of some experience....
  16. I'd be doing exactly as I am doing today...supporting the Mean Green as best I can. My support for UNT and the Mean green does not hinge on conference affiliation in any way whatsoever. never has...never will.
  17. Really sad...a waste of great talent. Just when will these folks start to realize that mixing drugs and alcohol is not a good thing and it's not a "safe social" way to have to "good time"? Seems these celebs and musicians and athletes think it is OK to do "recreational drugs" as they are just for social needes...can't hurt anything or lead to abuse, can it????? Really hate to see this...great signer...great talent...great waste!
  18. WOW! Really happy to see that everyone was OK....that is one fast event and always carries a dgree of danger. Really happy that everyone is fine! GO JQ!
  19. Well, for one, these entities are not "public", they are private entities. No one is forced to work at these places...if they do, they adhere to the rules. As far as you comments regarding an Islamic hospital...it it were 100% private, then OK with me. I can go elsewhere if I so desire. If it were "public" and accepted public funds, then that's another story...same would go for the Jehovah's Witnesses in your example as far as I would be concerned. Let's ask this question...who is doing who the favor here? Is the employee doing the faith based entity a favor in working there or is the entity doing the employee a favor by hiring them? The choice to hire or not lies with the employer here...the choice to accept the position and follow the established rules or not accept the offer of employment lies with the employee. No one is forcing anyone in this private scenario to do anything...seems to me to be a free will choice. And, by the way...I did not imply an answer to the "who is doing who a favor" question...seems to be an interesting philosophical question....
  20. RUMOR HAS IT THAT NT03 will be signing up for a return performance....welcome back...glad to have you back for year 2.
