Could this one be played at Frisco Park (FC Dallas Complex) in coordination with the Dallas Cup tournament? I watched UNT play TCU during that tournament and the dates looks likely to me for a repeat at Dallas Cup. Just wondering....

RUMOR ALERT...there is a rumor out there that TheGoodSheppard will be playing in this year's GMG.Com Basketball Classic...anyone care to substantiate that rumor or kill it? HARRY...are you there??? Folks...still time to sign up to play, still time to donate to the event and still time to provide an auction item for the event in support of the UNT Cheer Squad. PM me if you are interested in helping in any way this time around.

Did a good job. Great to see UNT represented. Just the standard chatter regarding the tournament...but there was a funny little bit about Lamar making it in after Pat Knight ripping the seniors on the team.... Great to be getting the good PR for UNT!

Where are these guys from? I ask because you do not need VISAS to travel back and forth between England and the US if one is a US Citizen as a tourist, but I wonder if it's a WORK VISA problem of some sort? Like they said the entered as tourists and were stopped because they were actually working in England? Just wondering as there are rarely travel problems with US citizens flying between the US and England. I wonder if they were actually "hassled" or were caught trying to "beat the system" or something? getting into a foreign country is rarely the problem...the problem is getting OUT without the proper documentation. Wonder what the problem was for these guys? Really too bad for the 35 festival in Denton this weekend. I understand these guys are pretty darn good.

Sorry to hear that...you will be missed. If you can....would appreciate your considering a donation the the cause....you can use the PayPal site here on GMG.com or PM me and I'll give you details for using a check. Appreciate your support last year and sorry we won't see you playing this year....hope to see you back next year or for this year's GMG.Com football game!

EXCELLENT! Really pleased to see the "spirit" focus in the new plan. The place is pretty drab, but has served the campus well over the years. Lots of effort has gone into making changes to upgrade the place, but it is time for a large re-do. The Union should be the focus of the main campus for students and visitors...this should make it so. Really like what I am seeing here.....UNT is definitely making positive moves these days. Indeed, good things are happening at UNT....

In today's Wall Street Journal they reported the fact that it has been since 1955 that a team with a losing record (Bradley) had won a game in the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament. This week, Western Kentucky became the 21st sub - .500 team to make the tournament field. Doesn't bode well for the Hilltoppers, but I do wish them well. Wow...since 1955!!! Thought it was interesting...that's all.

INDEED! For some of our very own to post garbage about "most" recruits settling for UNT because they did not receive any other/better offers is just beyond inane! I, for one, can name several ...many...players (present and past) who definitely chose UNT over other (and at times more prestigious...from a football standpoint) D-1 universities. AND, not just in football! Sometimes the Mean Green Nation simply cannot get out of its own way in its attempts to quash the negativity that seems to surround UNT. Having graduated from two other universities as well as UNT, I can assure you that some UNT "fans" and alums need to get a bit of perspective. To make such disparaging comments smacks right in the face of the players and parents who chose UNT, and is so very misleading and simply WRONG! GOOD GRIEF. I get so very tired of this attitude displayed by some of the Mean Green's own. I often wonder why and where this inferiority complex comes from in some of these alums and fans??????

I'm happy someone caught the humor...... -
Can't wait for the Spring game! Lots of activities are being planned around that game this year...so, IT'S GONNA BE A GREAT DAY! Be there...let's pack Apogee!!!! Will be there with the bride....

EXCELLENT NEWS! Congratulations to young "longJim" and welcome to the great Mean Green Nation. LongJim...are you aware that there is a UNT Parents Association? You might want to check that out...good group of folks.

It is my understanding that the current policy at UNT is to NOT retire numbers. Players can have their jersey numbers honored to indicate their contributions to the team and UNT after they complete their eligibility...and, as would be the case for basketball, the jersey could be hung at the Super Pit, but that the number would not be "retired" and would still be eligible for team use and distribution. At least that's what I understand.
-
Congratulations and thanks for the memories to our seniors. You played your hearts out for the Mean Green Nation...well done and God Speed!

Spring game is set for APRIL 21st at Apogee! Last I heard at either 1PM or 2PM. Be there! PS: I like these guys...they have some pretty good stuff out and should make for a good after game concert....yes, I'm one of the "older guys" who like Reckless Kelly. A "different" kind of country, so don't blow them off saying "I don't like country". Give it a shot...you might find you like these guys. See you at Apogee for the game and concert and perhaps some additional entertainment.

As it seems to be with all athletes! It will definitely be interesting to see how Cam works out along side Boone....I'm thinking this could bode very well for the Mean green and I am looking forward to seeing both these guys wearing Mean Green Green.

Too bad Joe Biden's Mom didn't believe in contraception. -
Well, for me it's pretty darn easy...and it's because this is MY university, and I am a two time grad of UNT. The wins are great, the losses suck, but that's all part of being a fan...and it's also why I don't take the wins and losses personally as many on here seem to do...screws up ones life to much to be that sensitive to the outcome of a game. The good times FAR outweigh the bad and they last with me far longer than do the "bad time losses". I tend to get over losses pretty fast and move along to the next game or next season. Only one D-1 team in the country will win it's last game this season or any season. Tough to be THAT team! When the time comes that I no longer enjoy being part of the Great Mean Green Nation, I'll simply walk away with no regrets what so ever. However, I don't see that day ever coming...win, lose or draw...this is MY university and I love it! Had a great time at every home game at Apogee last season and enjoyed every one of UNT's home BB games and enjoyed Hot Springs and my away football game to LaLa...yes, UNT lost to LaLa in football this year...still great road trip! Sports are for fun...unless you are the athlete in question...then it's a job and fun! If I didn't have fun I wouldn't do it...why would anyone? If UNT football, basketball, etc. is your "life", I think you need to take a long hard look in the mirror, have a few beers and figure out why. Lots of great stuff in this big grand world of ours. being a fan is only part of it...yes, a heartbreaking part at times, but the "break" heals fast as there is always "next season" and a "next game". And, by the way...UNT will be NCAA Champs......next year!
-
Well....I've seen some pretty stupid stuff posted on this board, but, far and away, this takes the cake. Dumbest thing I think i have ever seen posted. Stupid is as stupid posts! Clueless and classless might be two words I would use to describe the above referenced post and the person who posted them. Good grief!

Thanks for the kind words...Good luck to the Hilltoppers going forward...make the SunBelt proud...this Mean green fan will be cheering the Hilltoppers on in the NCAA's...Go get 'em! But, OK...tell me...just what is that red blob of a mascot you guys have? Seriously...what the heck is it? GO WKY...on to the NCAA's...beat whoever......
-
In the immortal words of Ranger Mgr Ron Washington..."That's the way basketball go"! Tough tough loss to take, but how many breaks went WKY's way late in the game. The Mean Green had chance after chance after knocking a ball loose or grabbing a turnover just to have WKY find the loose ball and make a bucket. I doubt that JJ or anyone on UNT's bench wanted to see that three jacked up at the time it was...but, clock was down...what to do when you cannot seem to get the ball inside? Give WKY some credit here folks...the kid from where, Senegal, had his Career day in getting about 22 points. Who the heck saw that one coming? No one...not even the WKY bench I would think. It did seem to me that the Mean Green lacked a bit of "intensity" during the entire game...but, saying that, they did have a 13 point lead with just under 13 min. to play. Our ladies lost an 18 point lead...for those saying this was all JJ's fault and it was "bad coaching" what do you say about Coach Aston? Was that "bad coaching" as well? Heck, this crap happens in all sports...just too bad it happened to both our ladies and our men in the same tournament. Bottom line here is that both teams seemed to "over achieve" a bit to get as far as they did in the tournament. Tough loss and no one should blame the refs or anyone else for the loss of either of our teams. Neither team could get the breaks or hit a shot when it mattered the most with the game on the line. The early misses by our men have just as much to do with the loss than the missed three at the end. Should not have come down to that shot....it did, and "that's the way basketball go". Good luck to WKY going forward...make the SunBelt proud. Thanks to all the Mean green fans who made the trip to Hot Springs...My bride and I had a great time, and the fans made me very proud to be a member of the great Mean green nation. The teams may have lost, but the Mean green fans attending...won the championship of fans in Hot Springs once again. If you couldn't go...or chose not to go...make plans now to attend next season's tournament...GREAT fun! Thanks for the great times this season go to both our men and our ladies...the coaching staffs and the support staff. Very happy...and very proud to be wearing my GREEN this morning!

For me, while this loss was very disappointing...and very hard to witness in person...the team did meet Coach Aston's expectations for the year. I was able to talk to her a few seconds at the Coaches show on Friday night in Hot Springs, and told her how proud I was of how this team responded for the year. After cahtting with Coach Aston, I was reminded that her goal was to win 15 games...the win over Troy gave her and the team their 15th win. Nicely done ladies. Then, they were up 18 over FAU and for the want of using a time out...when they had three time outs left (seems JJ has been blasted for his use of time outs this year as I recall) they blow that 18 point lead and lose. If the time out had been called with our player caught in the corner...by either the player or Coach Aston, I truly believe that UNT wins that game....but THAT'S BASKETBALL.....tough loss, but we should not let the way the season ended do anything to dampen the excitement generated by Coach Aston and her team this season. Good things are happening for the UNT ladies and I fully expect that next year the UNT lady eagles will be in the tournament finals. Well done ladies and Coach Aston...thanks for the exciting season. Oh, but for that time out being called..........

A lot of sins being committed at Lucky's tonight
KRAM1 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Basketball
What happens in Hot Springs...stays in Hot Springs...all I'll add about Sunday's fun at Lucky's is that some UNT fans better hang on to their day jobs after hearing them try out that Karaoke machine! At least they were "brave" enough (or something else) to give it a try...not this fella...I did not want the cops to close the place down thinking someone was being killed in the place if I gave it a try! Great fun....great fans...great alums...GO MEAN GREEN! -
Well, now that some time has elapsed since the schedule was announced, it still baffles me that we only have five home games, but as there is nothing to be done about it now, it seems to be time to figure out how to fill Apogee for each of those five games. The ESPN Tuesday game will be a great time to show off Apogee and UNT to a national audience. That is a real positive, and I think our students and Alums...and perhaps the city...will get behind this game and those predicting doom and gloom for this game will be surprised at the success. Plenty of schools have seen these weekday games and have had great success with them. I see no reason why it cannot be the same for the Mean Green. Lots of time to plan, to get people on board and excited for the game. Mid-week game = different experience....different does not mean that it cannot be a packed house and tons of fun. Plan now...be there! Heck, if you miss this one, you will have missed twenty percent of the home schedule. It is going to be exciting.....start praying now for great weather and no Rangers playoff game!
