  1. CONGRATULATIONS LADIES! WELL EARNED CHAMPIONSHIP! The entire Mean Green nation is proud of you all! This is simply awesome!
  2. I'd be more than fine with this hire. Strong credentials, HC experience...been there done that kind of guy who can take a program and get it going...or keep it going. Local...home in Highland Park...and obviously wants to get back in coaching as the time seems to be right...as is the job opportunity it would seem. Let's get this done and get on with the NCAA tournament bid for next season.....
  3. Indeed...very good. Those guys can play! I thought it was a great way to cap off a great day at Apogee. Really appreciate the Athletic department making our spring game and event this year. It was truly an all day event for me...starting with the 10:00AM GMG.Com Bowl IX and ending with the Reckless Kelly concert. I was a bit surprised that more students and other spectators did not stay around for the concert. By the time it ended the crowd was pretty sparse...too bad....those guys are really good! Had a great time!
  4. I scored a neat UNT Letter jacket for $20. Good deal...except their idea of LARGE is really closer to XXL! ha! If you were a "big guy" this was made for you. Really fun looking through all the stuff they had...amazing. Plenty of leftover items as well...so...hopefully, there will be a second edition of the Garage Sale soon. BTW...just an aside...I thought it was interesting how many GMG.Com folks were waiting in the line and walking by, but never even came over to check out the GMG.Com Silent Auction items we had on the table. Saw lots and lots of GMG.Com folks ..... Thanks to those who took the time to stop by and check the items out, just to say hello and/or to make a bid...whether you "won" or not, your support was very much appreciated. You know who you are......and aren't! Fun stuff....
  5. drex...thanks for the kind words...BUT..."I" did not raise that money...a bunch of folks...yourself included...pitched in to make these events a success, and each and every ones deserves as much or more of the credit than I ever will. It's great to see the amounts being raised grow each year...you know that $5,500+ will really help our student-athletes. That's what makes this so great...and so much fun. Hopefully, we can continue this trend. Again...there are not enough words that I can think of to thank every single person who had a hand in both these events. I'm pretty excited about where we can take both these events. I do think it's getting to be time when I need some additional administrative type help to keep these going. So, if anyone would like to volunteer to help stage these events with me next year...please just send me a PM. GREAT TIMES with very generous folks...you know...even Rick V and C Dan Smith stopped by the silent auction table to make some bids...some generous bids I might say as well. That was great to see...but it's the sort of support I have come to see each and every time we do something like this from these folks.
  6. First...my sincere thanks to ALL who played, participated in our silent auction (whether you became a winning bidder or not...you helped a great deal), who sponsored the event, who donated additional funds "just because", who provided some FANTASTIC BRISKET for the after event tailgate, and who volunteered to work the chains, down marker and referee. And, thanks to the fans who came out to watch and cheer your "heroes" on. It was a great day...and you...each and every one of you made it so. Final score was Green Team 18 - White Team 6, but it was much closer than that for the majority of the game...a score in "extra time" added to the green team's margin of victory. The good news is that we got out of the deal with only one injury that I am aware of...I think Hut sprained an ankle that might be a tad sore Sunday morning, but I saw him "up and about" at the spring game...so, I am keeping my fingers crossed for a speedy recovery! OK, I still have some auction items to collect for, but when all is said and done...and after all expenses are deducted, your generosity has resulted in what appears to be a $3,000.00 donation the Andrew Smith memorial Scholarship Fund! Folks, that is the highest total in the nine year history of the event! Couldn't happen with you...each and every one of you! Give yourselves a well deserved pat on the back for a job well done! I hope everyone enjoyed themselves, and will come back for next year's game...I am going to hope to make it even bigger and better...with your help! NEXT YEAR'S GAME LOOKS TO BE SET FOR APRIL 13, 2013! Mark your calendars now and spread the word! We will, of course, confirm that date later, but I am told, at this point, that's the date for next year! So, mark it down, and we'll see everyone again on April 13th next season. If you have any comments, thoughts or suggestions regarding the event and how we might can make it even better, please...please PM me....I welcome your comments...positive or negative (but be nice!...Ha!)...and your suggestions. The event gets better because people care....so, let me know. And let me know if you would like to help plan and stage the event next year...help is always welcome. Again, thanks to one and all...WELL DONE! WELL DONE! It's makes me proud to be a member of the great Mean green Nation when I get to be around so many great and generous people. THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
  7. OK, let's see...the gov. then allows folks to buy debit cards off the shelf that will then be loaded with their SS payments. WOW...how many ways could that INCREASE FRAUD, not eliminate it? let me count the ways. "Hello, SS office, yes, it's me grandma Smith. I have my debit card...just start sending my $ to this card number". Thanks. have a nice day". Oh, sure, I see that working. And, guess what...you still had to go get the card...some argue that poor and elderly have no way to go get a valid photo id. Again...this is not about comparing voting and ss .... it's about the fact that if one needs a bank acct and/or debit card, they will need a photo ID. If they can get a photo ID for that...they can get a photo ID period! So, how is getting a photo ID discriminatory? Cannot have it both ways.....not discussing at all, the fact whether anyone likes the ID of needing a valid photo ID to vote...just that the govt.'s argument through Holder and Obama is stupid and hypocritical. Argue the merits of Voter ID's all you want, but stop the hypocrisy and the inane argument that folks cannot get a valid photo ID...that is where the discussion is here folks...sorry some just have missed the point entirely....this is pretty blatant hypocrisy on the part of the feds....if you can't see it, you either are not looking or just don't want to see it. That's all....
  8. I am assuming full size...but have not seen it as yet.
  9. Oh, I agree with you, but you missed my point. My point is the hypocrisy of people who say that a voter ID law would PREVENT people from voting because getting a valid photo ID would place an undue burden on them...and the US Justice Dept. under our current administration...while those same folks argue that poor and elderly are discriminated against in having to show a photo ID to vote in Texas. If it is discriminatory and burdensome to get a valid photo ID to vote, why are the same people OK with these same folks having to get a valid photo ID to receive federal benefits? It's the hypocrisy that I point to here.....
  10. Going to have a great time at the GMG.Com Bowl IX tomorropw at Apogee! 10:00AM kick-off...come on out and enjoy the fun!

  11. THOR...just for you, I will bring a few craft beers that I have...for you...you can make a donation of what ever amount you woukld like...will get them to the after event tailgate for your viewing and perhaps drinking pleasure!
  12. Bump...just trying to keep this "top of mind" for awhile....

  14. OK, let's check the logic here...The US government has announced that as of 2013 it will no longer issue paper checks for social security and other forms of government payments. It seems the federal government wants to cut down on FRAUD and to reduce costs. So, everyone receiving a social security check or other form of government payment will need to have a bank account in place or a debit card issued through some bank sponsored program. Hmmmmmmmm...last I checked you needed a valid photo ID to open a bank account or to get a debit card...and you had to go to the bank to open the account or get the card. Hmmmmmm...let's see, Texas passes a Voter ID law structured after the Indiana Vote ID law that the US Supreme Court has ruled to be constitutional and not discriminatory in any way and Eric Holder and the US Justice Department goes ape nuts over it and sues Texas....now the Justice Department wants to depose Texas Sate elect legislators to see if they had any discriminatory "intent" in drafting the legislation. All the while, the federal government in essence passes a "valid photo ID" rule regarding the receipt of federal payments....Hmmmmmmmm....what am I missing here? So, folks can't vote in Texas because a valid photo ID might be required yet than CAN receive federal payments if they have a valid photo ID...I guess the feds are trying to cut off grandma and grandad and want the poor to starve....how dare they. Way to go Attny Gen. Holder and the US Justice Dept. Talk about discrimination...I think Texas is the one being blatantly discriminated against. The irony is just dripping here folks.....only under the current administration in DC could this not be seen as ridiculous. Ahhhhhhhh, the logic of it all.
  15. OK, then under this logic let's see no one here compalin if Mitchell, Williams or Jones decides to leave UNT. Just sayin.....it's a two-way street after all you say. In reality I get that, and I think the NCAA needs to seriously look at some of the inane and ridiculus "rules" it has relating to athlete transfers, scholarships, donors, etc., etc. I know I am "old school" when it comes to the idea of contracts and how one should view a signed contract...even if a better deal comes along after the fact or during the term of that contract...but, even so, the NCAA's rules do seem a bit inane when it comes to this sort of thing and pretty one-sided...and not in the athletes favor I might add.
  16. Bound to happen. Forrest was going with JJ and if you didn't KNOW that Leonard would also go you haven't been very aware of Coach Leonard's history. Why do you think Forrest had not finalized the deal at K St? Well, now you know. Coach Leonard and Coach Forrest were both excellent assistants under JJ and that's exactly why he is taking them to LSU. It IS to be expected. When the new UNT HC is named, he will now have the opportunity to bring in his "own guys"...just like JJ is doing...without having to fire folks. Seems A-OK to me and pretty much the way it is with these things. No reason to panic or get all worked up about losing some players...it's all good folks...and will get even better. Stay tuned. I'm guessing that the new HC will be named within the week. Hope so...let's get on with it and get this thing done. It's a new era at UNT...and I'm betting on it being a very exciting one.
  17. I understand what you are saying...appreciate Tasty, you, UNT90 filling in some holes for me regarding these NCAA rules. Are we 100% certain Manning said no to any Big XII transfer or is that just rumor? I don't care one way or the other as he's not playing at UNT. I think there is always more to the story than the public knows (or think they know) in most of these cases. Sort of a tough situation for both Manning and the kid. Don't see why either one would be very happy about it.
  18. Just asking, but I don't get why you think Tulsa and manning are the "bad guys" here. Isn't or wasn't Clarkson on scholarship? Didn't he commit to playing at Tulsa and sign a scholarship offer with Tulsa? Seems to me that manning and Tulsa could have said "no" to a release and the kid would have to stay and sulk about it or play Juco or at a lower level than D1 or not at all. I am sure you know much more about this than i do, so I just wondered why you think the bad guys are who they are in this deal? Does the kid not have some part to play in this thing? Why not stay at Tulsa? And, are you saying a kid can back out of his scholarship and go play anywhere immediately if he pays his own way? Really? So Clarkson could go to Texas and play year one if he paid his own way? Is that how it works?
  19. I'm liking this soccer/football talk.
  20. IT'S HERE! GAME DAY SATURDAY and weather looks to be great! here is some game day info for players and spectators alike.... APOGEE ENTRY: For all players and spectators - GATE 4 (East/Student side)...enter and exit will be through Gate 4...enter through Gate 4 and make your way down the seats to the field. We will play from the student side. Gate is to be open at 9AM...please arrive in time to register, get your playing shirt, review the rules grab a flag belt, and to have some warm-up time. PARKING: Parking for players and spectators for our game will be in the East Victory Lot...Red/Blue Lots....unless you have a parking pass (club and suite ticket holders) and you can choose to park either in the red/blue lot or your designated lot for the game. AFTER EVENT TAIL GATE: Once again this year, Dale Hiatt has agreed to provide some wonderful brisket sandwiches to the hungry after the game. Dale will be setting up a tailgate area for us to use after the game and to enjoy his great brisket. I am not exaggerating here folks...if you have tasted Dale's handiwork with a brisket in the past you KNOW exactly what I am talking about...GREATNESS! The brisket will be donated by Dale and will be free of charge to our participants as long as it lasts....for those so willing, we will accept scholarship donations for the brisket, but donations are in no way required. Bring your own beverages to the after event tailgate...and, yes, BERR will be allowed...and some might say encouraged. We'll announce the location of the after event tailgate at the game Saturday once Dale and crew have determined its exact location. PLEASE...if you are playing or planning to attend, pass this information along to anyone you know playing/attending as GATE 4 will be the only entry point Saturday morning for our game. I would hate for any spectator or player/family to be wondering around trying to figure out how to get into the stadium and miss kick-off or the game entirely. SILENT AUCTION: Once again we will hold a silent auction in conjunction with the game to raise additional scholarship funds. We will have some great UNT and non-UNT related items available for your bidding. The auction will be set up on the sidelines during the game, but will be moved to the concourse area of Apogee (probably on the home side near the garage sale or main home side gate) once our game is over. Bidding will remain open until the end of half-time of the spring game. Bids will close at that time and winners are welcome to come pick up and pay for their items. Cash or check only please...we will have no way to take credit card payments. Let's get it on! This is going to be fun. See you Saturday!
  21. Sorry.....I follow Coventry City and I have a copy of the book. Know some former Coventry City Youth players and have been to Coventry City and the football grounds more than once. It was a book about Coventry City and the trials and tribulations they had over the years just barely staying "up"! \Wigan has definitely had its own share of "staying up" problems and challenges over the years...I'll definitely give you that, but this was all about Coventry City...go on Amazon.com or some other site and you can probably find the book I am referring to...if you want I can provide title, author and publisher. Really good read....give it a go if you want...I think any fan of the beautiful game would enjoy it (if it's still in print that is...Ha!)
  22. I heard they were going to put it right in from of the Alumni Center on the grassy area near the Gateway building.
  23. GREATNESS...Former player volunteering to help...Really appreciate the help...folks, same guy volunteered to ref the recent GMG.Com BB game (and I know it didn't help his ailing back any)...anyone see a pattern here when it comes to volunteering? I really do appreciate the ones who seem to always step forward to play, help with administration, help with game day activities, provide donations and sponsorships...you ALL know who you are. You are the ones who can always be counted on to help support the Mean Green. To each and everyone involved in this event...my hat's off to you and I can tell you...you are very much appreciated. Looking forward to a great MEAN GREEN SATURDAY. I'll post Game Day details in a new thread probably tomorrow...parking, stadium entrance, silent auction, after event tailgate, etc.
  24. Dale...many thanks...I need to let you know what the deal is for the after game tailgate...would it be OK to PM you or I can email you....appreciate the help...just had a feeling that I could count on you to come to the rescue. Really do appreciate the help.....see you Saturday!
  25. Hey, all...I appreciate the replies as it bumps this thread up toward the top...BUT...I actually do not need to know who isn't coming or can't help...I really sort of need to know who CAN help. If you can help and would like to volunteer, I could use a bit of game day help. You can let me know here, or you can PM me....thanks so much. And, sorry that you guys can't make it...would have been great seeing you and having you with us. EDIT: HA! Thanks for the -1 .... whoever did it is free to volunteer to help set this thing up next year...I could really use the help as it is getting bigger and bigger each year. So, you who thought I said something out of line, PM, me...I am really looking for voulnteers...so...PM to arrive in 3-2-1.......
