Grades? How's this kid on the academic front? I always worry a tad when I see that they come from some "basketball academy school" thing. Anyone know the skinny on the academic side of the house? Looks like a great sign on the BB side of the house, but as we have seen with Jones and Williams...and, yes, TMitch...one must take care of both sides of the house to actually play. Tell me the kid is a academic powerhouse as well...... Nice commit for the first one out of the box Coach! -
It's Official: UNT to CUSA Press Conference on Friday!
KRAM1 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
"Only at North Texas can we screw up a wet dream like this, by having the formal announcement tomorrow as a media only event. Then, like the lazy group that we have over at the coal mine, latch onto a pre-planned event to carry over the announcement for the loyal customer 4 days later. I know of at least two donors who were anticipating going to this event Friday and took off work for it. Only to be made fools of by this athletic department, again! Only at North Texas!" Really? Like they couldn't just go on and head to work Friday? Maybe not...but come on...folks take a day off to attend a press conference that had not even been announced officially as yet? Talk about taking a bit of a risk if they cannot now simply go on to work. I, too, had scheduled part of the day off (I assumed it would be an afternoon presser) with the understanding that if the presser did not happen that I would just come on at work that day. No biggie. It's really not that hard. How in the sam hill world did the athletic department make fools of these folks? Seriously, really? The above quote is an actual quote from a person who will remain un-named here, but it looks to me like someone is trying awfully hard to find something to compalin about. I am sure, like me, lots of folks were planning to attend the news conference once we all knew officially where and what time. Perhaps now those folks will only need to make one trip to Denton and won't have to take off work to attend the celebration just to turn around and perhaps attend the Coaches Caravan on Tuesday. They now, as will I, get a two-fer for the price of one. It's not like everyone did not already KNOW with 100% certainty that this was happening.... I guess it's pretty much just a matter of if you go through life seeing the glass as half-empty or half-full.- 48 replies

We Have Our Stadium & Conference: Will Attendance Be Next?
KRAM1 replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Plumm...I am in 100% agreement with you, but I also think as good a question is...what can the actual fans do to help increase attendance? Well, here are a few ideas: 1) Buy season tickets and actually show up for the games 2) If, for whatever reason, you cannot make it to a game, make darn sure your tickets are in the hands of someone who can attend...do it early...as soon as you know you can't attend. 3) TALK positive about the program to your work associates, friends and neighbors...encourage them to attend a game and perhaps take them to a game 4) Stop complaining about every little so-called slight or problem you have had with the Athletic Dept. over the last ump-teen years. It's getting old and people are tired of hearing about your personal problems...and, those around you and readers of these boards see that stuff and it does no good...take your issues up privately with someone who can actually do something about it...and "get over it" and move on.... 5) Join the Mean green Club and the Alumni Association...put your support where your mouth is and where you say your loyalty lies...it helps. 6) Encourage recent grads to get in the "habit" of donating to their university...they can easily start with a recent grad membership to the Mean green Club for as little as $50. 7) Participate in the Coaches Caravans, attend watch parties when you can, wear your Mean Green Colors in public as often as you feel comfortable...show your pride... OK, I'll stop at seven, but you get the idea...lots we can all do to help, and it is a lot more enjoyable to be positive and help instead of negative and part of the problem. These things will definitely help attendance...you know they will. -
It's Official: UNT to CUSA Press Conference on Friday!
KRAM1 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Hey, i get it.And, I don't blame you one little bit for feeling a tad disappointed. And, I am very appreciative of those students who actually turned out to vote for the new stadium...BUT, let's be honest here...if we waited for students to turn out in force at ANY UNT athletic event, we would be waiting a very long time indeed. I look forward to our new conference alignment helping resolve the problem of general student apathy at UNT towards the athletic programs. And...as far as that goes...to the general "fan" apathy surrounding support for UNT Athletics and UNT in general over the years! Great things are happening...I should say...continuing to happen for UNT!- 48 replies

Junior Seau Commits Suicide
KRAM1 replied to UNTflyer's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Steroids, maybe? I have never heard that he was in any way connected to steroids, but it seems some reports are out there linking steroid use to suicide.....what a tragedy, the guy was, what, 43 years old and has 2-3 kids. What a waste...very very sad. -

It's Official: UNT to CUSA Press Conference on Friday!
KRAM1 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Looks like the "fun" will be part of the Tuesday Coaches caravan that starts at 6PM on Tuesday the 8th. I think this is a great idea...we know it's a done deal anyway, so let's let the out of town folks drive up/down to Denton only once and make it a bigger event than it would have been as so many folks are working on Friday's at the appointed time. I appreciate the AD folks setting it up this way...this is going to be fun folks...see you Tuesday! And, if you are not a member of the Mean green Club or have not renewed your Mean Green Club membership as yet...bring your checkbook and/or credit card!- 48 replies

I'd definitely vote...and multiple times, if I didn't have to link up with Facebook to do it...too much "stuff" on Facebook already that I need to get rid of...I don't need to add anything more. Sorry...really did want to vote for the Mean Mreen! If I can vote without this being linked to my Facebook page...let me now how and I'll vote ASAP and often!

Well, most already probably know this, but I did not. Once UNT announces its move to CUSA it will play in the Sunbelt one more year. However, during that final year UNT will receive ZERO revenue from the Sunbelt Conference. Conference must be notified of move by June 30th according to Commissioner Benson....then it forfeits one year of revenue! So, since most of us have talked long and hard about getting into a better conference, this move, while FANTASTIC, will cause a temporary hit to the AD's budget. So, as I have asked those who are on my Mean Green Club Volunteer Rep list to do...add a minimum of 10% to the donations you make to the Mean green Club and the Athletic Dept. this starting NOW! If everyone stepped up with a minimum of a 10% increase, we could help offset at least some of that revenue forfeit! And, for those who talk a good game, but have yet to donate for whatever reason, well, the time is now to open that checkbook or to pull out that credit card and to join the Mean green Club (at any level) or to just make a donation to the athletic department. I think we will definitely see some big time benefit from the move to CUSA, but in the meantime...WE all need to step it up at least a little in support of the Mean green. One thing we can all do is to also help recruit new Mean Green Club members and donors. To do that, one needs to talk in positive terms about the program and the University. It does not help to go around, even in ones personal cadre of friends, constantly complaining about personal and/or petty issues...one never knows who is listening or just needs that one more excuse to not give. Lots we can all do to help. So, as Nike likes to say...Just Do It! The time is NOW for the great Mean green nation...no more excuses, no more stalling...let's do this people. Join me and join your fellow Mean Green nation members in showing your support for the Mean Green...you CAN help make a BIG DIFFERENCE!

How about the so-called fans of the Mean green doing their part as well...and the students...think they might want to actually step up and do their part? Just saying before you start naming names and making lists of who needs to support in higher numbers...just sayin...everyone is in this together. EVERYONE HAS A PART TO PLAY in helping set the Mean green up for success in CUSA. The time for excuses is OVER...the time for action is now. ACTA NON VERBA should be the new motto of Mean Green Fans everywhere...if, in fact, they are more than pseudo-fans. I am with you Silver...everyone needs to do their part. Some folks need to look in the mirror to find out just who that "everyone" is. And, to be clear here...I am talking about folks doing what they can...nothing more nothing less. It's all important and needed.

About time...what took you so long? Ha! way to go Rudy! See you at Apogee!

Your wife definitely needs to get out more! Amazing lack of knowledge in this area...even my bride who is not an avid sports fan (except for soccer) knows of these schools. You got some teaching to do here, sir! Ha!

I'd give you multiple +1's if I could, Sir! HOF worthy post right here!

Why not do things a little differently and adopt the Scottish side Rangers FC? No, not Queens Park Rangers, but the Rangers FC Club from Scotland of the Scottish Premier Leagure. Unless, of course you are Catholic...in that case you might want to consider Celtic. -
Some of what he says seems eerily familiar. The "take your ball and go home" mentality certainly has made its presence felt at UNT over the years. UNT has it's share of folks who "can't get over" some little something and they will hold on to that grudge for ever. It's their right to do as they please, but it seems often so very childish when pictured in the largher scheme of things. Some folks just can't get over the fact that it's not about them and it's not about their pet projects or how they "think" things should be done...or not done. It's about the university and what's best for the university. I wish all the Sunbelt schools nothing but the best going forward. Happy to be moving on the CUSA. It will be very interesting to see how this move effects the UNT fan and Alumni base.

Just amazing how this stuff happens when RV and Lane Rawlins are just sitting around while all the other schools lobby in the press and make grandiose statements...if only we had an AD and Prez who would do something! Ha! It's times like these that make me smile big grins, and know how great it is to be a member of the Mean Green Nation. This is a great time for the Mean green! The time is NOW for UNT and the Mean Green. Bring on CUSA!!!!! Happy Days, folks, happy days at UNT. Thanks again RV and Lane Rawlins for all the behind the scenes professional work you have been doing to make all this come true over the last few years for the Mean green nation. OK, folks...time to step up! Join the Mean Green Club, buy season tickets. The time for excuses is over! The time for action is NOW! ACTA NON VERBA!!!!!!

Now you are talking! I vote for this...forget Vegas and UNLV...schedule NAVY, ARMY and AIR FORCE! AT APOGEE!

Very nice news...good to see that these recruits are still signing with UNT! I am thinking here that the progress started last season under Coach Aston will continue next season under Coach Peterson. Very solid news here, folks....nice!

Let's see..."derisive language choices"...Oh, you mean like "on the backs of others"....bit I digress. Have you ever read the book "The Millionaire Next Door"? I assume not as it describes quite a few hardworking folks who worked hard...many for someone else and never rose above what most would call a mid-management position, but they saved, invested, spent well within their means and paid taxes...got an education, not all past high school...and ended up in the 2% category that folks want to call "rich" because they in fact did "take care of business" and not on the "backs" of anyone else. Your choice of language gives you away. Seems the libs only think of the multi-millionaire corp. types when they bash the "wealthy" for not "paying their fair share", but the US is full of "self-made millionaires" who have and do give a very high percentage of their income "back" to society. Many of these people started their own businesses and have created employment for countless thousands of people....and, no, they did not "abuse" their employees...rather they provided a source of income and healthy benefit packages in many many cases. So, keep that thought .... does that look at all familiar? Remember...these are the majority of the "rich folks" Obama and the libs love to bash so much as they are "rich" and should be paying much more in taxes.

Is anybody else worried about anything else?

As my very wise father would often say..."son, BBQ is a lot like women....all are good, some just better than others". I think that pretty much fits the bill here...everyone has their personal favorities...all good, some just better than others (in other folks opinions that is). BBQ and Beer in Texas...doesn't get much better than that folks. BTW...he said it about Mexican food as well.
