  1. As the mother said to the little boy she was trying to potty train..."you aim too, please!".
  2. Nice job...great to these quality recruits being signed by Coach Mac and Company. recruiting 18 year.....along with their sometimes helicopter parents...is a tough job. Staffs certainly lose as often as they win in these recruit battles. One of the things that I like is that it seems Coach mac and Co. know a thing or two about turning a raw HS recruit into a solid college ball player. Just look at all the transfers in D-1 football each year. Big name and 3-4-5 star recruits not seeing the time of day on the field at the college level, not making grades, not attending to team rules and getting in brushes with the law and kicked off, etc., etc. It's a carp shoot often with these kids...and they all think they will be all-pro for the Dallas Cowboys. hard to deal in that world, i am sure. BUT, UNT certainly needs to go after the highly rated recruits...and win some of those recruiting battles...if it wants to be a bowl team year in and year out in C-USA! GO COACH MAC & CO. Sign 'em!
  3. My bride and I will be there...yep, adult beverages should be cold and ready for purchase at this event....YUM! Hot Dogs, Beer and Mean Green...doesn't get much better than that!
  4. Seems Coach Mac might have been aware of this...as he did spend a bit of time at the recent Mean Green Club Volunteer Rep Banquet talking about UNT's tight ends. I'm with Lonnie on this...not really much of a loss, but would have liked to have seen this kid wearing green. Could have moved him to the D side if need be. Seems to have the size and quickness for it. Oh, well, good luck to him....sorry he made the completely incorrect choice! So be it!
  5. Excellent...I'm with tasty here on the "paying for school" thing, but this seems to be good news...if in fact he actually enrolls, attends classes and passes those classes and actually sees the court for UNT. I'm counting on it, but will hold my horses a tad still until all this is squared away. Welcome to the MEAN GREEN NATION, T J...
  6. Amazing how some folks' avatars really seem to fit, isn't it?
  7. Nope...seems we have found right here on GMG.Com that Brian is now working at Cowboy Stadium. Good for Bruian...hopefuuly, I'll run into him one of these days and will be able to say hello and to thank him in person for the great work he did with Apogee. Thanks for the update GreenLegend37.
  8. So, anyone have any news about Brian? I thought he did a great job with the stadium. Did he get a new gig elsewhere? Sure wish him well and thank him for all he has done for the Mean green nation. Well done, Brian. THANK YOU!
  9. Thanks, Grant...very kind of you, Sir!
  10. The Mean green Club just announced the date and time for this year's Mean green Kickoff-Cookout at APOGEE! August 18th from 6-8PM. $1 drinks and $1 hot dogs...and lots of Mean Green. Be there or be square.....hope to see a great turnout for the event this year. For those who attended at Apogee last year...the breeze through the stadium concourse made it really nice. See you there! It's a can't miss event for members of the great Mean green nation everywhere! Plan on being there....See you there!
  11. Already working on the picnic and beers for next year's event...will need many more volunteers to help and to help fund the costs if we are going to provide food and beers. Sorry, just cannot foot the entire bill myself with it growing like it has the possibility to do. We could make it a "bring your own food and beer tailgate" and share with others if folks would like and then the financial costs would not just fall on a few. I agree...we need a tailgate after this event next time...maybe after we do it with the basketball posters this year...who is in????? ME...I'm in...it was too much fun to miss out on for round two! POSTERS AND A PICNIC (OK a tailgate) for "SPREAD THE GREEN" DAY II.....greatness.
  12. INDEED!!! GREAT post! +1 for you....
  13. For me, I'd prefer to see a good mix of both UNT grads and non-UNT grads. having too many UNT grads does not bring in fresh ideas from other successful places...having too few UNT grads makes for lack of tradition and continuity. For me...give me a good mix of both. I know of several UNT grads working in areas all across the UNT campus including athletics these days. The days when a UNT grad could not get hired at UNT seems to be pretty much over if you actually look at the numbers.
  14. And, until this fan base actually starts buying what UNT merchandise there IS for sale in the metroplex and other places, the day we see tons of UNT merchandise available for sale will NEVER come. That includes students on UNT's very own campus who continue to wear jerseys and mercahndise displaying other university logos and names as well as fans and alums. The folks who sell this stuff are, believe it or not, in the business of making a profit...if they can actually profit from sales of UNT gear and mercahndise, they will carry it! Now, that being said...the UNT bookstore and the Apogee store (run by the UNT Bookstore I am told...so actually one in the same) should have a bigger and better variety of merchandise NOW. But, again, people must them be willing to buy it...and not jst a few diehard fans here on GMG.Com. I share your pain in this.
  15. Excellent...worked great. Thanks for posting it. Looked like a decent but smaller crowd than last year's event. maybe they worked the ladies too hard last year! Ha! My bride would have returned for year two for her, but she was out of town. She'll be back next year. Said it was a lot of fun. Looked like the ladies of the Mean green were having a good time. I think it is great that this event takes place. Thanks again for posting this. GO LADIES OF THE MEAN GREEN NATION!!!!!
  16. Why would I even think about that worry? Seems to me that you would be an absolute professional and positive influence. You, I do not believe, would ever do anything that would reflect badly on either yourself or any part of UNT. There are lots of volunteer opportunities and I welcome your participation.
  17. So, I've been informed that one of our more "esteemed" fans has said that he was glad he didn't "WASTE HIS TIME" going all over Denton with posters Saturday. Really, waste of time? Seriously? Since when is getting together with a group of UNT and Mean green fans a waste of time? And, since when is talking UNT and Mean Green football with local merchants and Dentonites a waste of time? I had several conversations with several people who thanked me for helping out, who wanted to display the posters, who even asked for more Mean Green "stuff" to display and who really wanted to talk Mean Green football with me. I did not have one negative comment all the time I was out. In fact the only negative comments about our effort has come from "guess where"? If I was wasting my time Saturday, getting to be part of this group and getting to meet some Mean Green fans I had not had the pleasure of meeting before and talking Mean green football with lots of interested Dentonites, then I truly hope I get to do a lot more "wasting my time" events. I am more than ready and willing to ":waste" more of my time having that much fun! Anyone out there who participated in this event Saturday think it was a waste of their time? Because those are really the only opinions that actually matter. Based on the reception I got Saturday from local businesses, I do think the tide may be beginning to turn in Denton and that this town may finally be on the verge of actually starting to really support Mean Green Athletics! Slowly, sure...but I sure seemed to sense positive movement while out Saturday...that made it an even more positive experience for me.
  18. Welll...didn't linger at Hooter's TOO LONG as I still had some posters to deliver...such as Oak Street Draft House...yep, I took the local "arts"...errr...bar area...Ha! We might just have to get the crew back together for a basketball poster day..."Spread the Green" Day was great fun...hopefully next time we can have even more volunteers. Thanks again to all....
  19. INDEED...get that going and it will definitely make national headlines!
  20. Happy Birthday "Youngster"! I'll raise a glass to you and wish you nothing but the best....go get 'em, Coach!
  21. What a great day....many thanks to the "Spread the Green" football paster crew. WE met at 9:00AM at the UNT Alumni pavilion...had a look-see at the new pedestrian bridge...had some coffee and juice and a donut/kolache or two, distributed posters and off everyone went...there were nine (9) of us this morning...the crew consisted of: KRAM1 UNT90 UNT 90 Grad Long Jim NMGreen Emmitt01 Diet Coke Boy trud1966 Slide Shoe Joe Everyone of these volunteers deserve a pat on the back for giving up a good part of there Saturday to help be part of the solution for the Mean green. personally, I had a great time! I got to meet Slide Show Joe and trud1966 who i had not had the pleasure of meeting before...and I got to meet NMGreen's Mom who came to ride shotgun for NMGreen on his appointed rounds...and how about UNT90 who drove in from Granbury, UNT 90 Grad who made the trek down from the Allen area and NMGreen who actually came in from las Vegas, Nevada for a visit home and volunteered to give up part of that visit home to help the Mean Green!!!! All you guys are the greatest! Asa for my day...well, it could not have gone any better...I only had until about 11:30AM to work as I had to get to another commitment, but in the time I had I was welcomed in each and every shop I entered and NO ONE turned me away...and only one did not allow me to personally put up the poster/s before I left...they had to check with the owner, but took the poster...my list included (19 posters at 15 locations): Sticker Station Denton Bicycle center Unique Barber Burguesa Burger Rooster's Roadhouse Fuzzy's Tacos (they were excited to see me as customer's have been asking where the posters were..clients wanted them) The Love Shack Ramen Republic Hickory Street Lounge Weienberger's Deli (They asked for more Mean Green "swag" to display...very enthusiastic about UNT) Mellow Mushroom (had to ask owner, but took a poster) Campus Barber Shop Hoochie's Hooter's Oak Street Draft House I have a photo of the "Poster Crew" and if I can figure out how to post it, I'll get it up here on GMG.Com. Again...each and every one of you guys are GREAT! And, I really appreciate your support for this project and for the Mean Green.
  22. I wonder if anyone goes to a bowl this year with less than 7 wins?
  23. The local Chick-Fil-La folks are restaurant partners of UNT and the Mean Green. They help support the Mean Green... as such I help support them. Simple...and as one other member of the great Mean Green Nation has posted on Facebook........ Let; 's all boycott Chick-Fil-La on SUNDAY, July 29th. Seems like the perfect day for a boycott of Chick-Fil-La to me...I think I'll stop by Chick-Fil-La during during tomorrow's Mean Green Football Poster distribution event to thank them for their support and to buy a yummy sandwich in appreciation of that support!
  24. GOOD IDEA! I'll bring a camera along.....
