  1. Mean green HAS that Coach now in Coach mac and company. The best is yet to come!
  2. Bump...folks...this needs to stay "top of mind".....even $5 or $10 would help...come on Mean Green Nation. You can do this.....
  3. Science...sound? When did that ever have anything to do with a good..."romp in the hay"? Come On Man!!!!! I heard all nurses didn't need science to explore the benefits of sex! Don't destroy my fantasy here!
  4. Thanks...great ad!
  5. Mean green to the Cotton Bowl!!!!! Yes, I know that is not the official name of the game, but it's at the Cotton Bowl...so how great does that sound???? GREAT!
  6. Interesting...MEAN GREEN to the Cotton Bowl! way cool.
  7. Great idea! One of UNT's great footballers! So, how can we do something to help Johnny raise funds for his Olympic bid?
  8. I still have a hard time getting up for a team that has a condom for a mascot! Yes...all the puns you can think of are in play here!
  9. This...well said Joe! I, too, see these folks at UNT events and not just athletic events. So to indicate that they are not supportive of UNT not really correct. Brett does what Brett does. I am glad we have a beat writer dedicated to UNT Athletics working in Denton and for the DRC. I've subscribed to the DRC for over 35 years running now, and find it a decent community paper..including the writings of Brett Vito. Now, do i agree with Brett all the time in what he writes? Heck no? But, I am glad of that as it's not his job to write so everyone agrees with him all the time or to always drink green Kool-Aid. Well said, Joe!
  10. Man...if that were a crime half of the folks posting here on GMG.Com would be serving life sentences! :-)
  11. Hey...priceless! I think it says more about why newspapers are struggling to stay relavant these days than anything else. Where do they get folks like this who write such stuff? The good news here is that it is in the paper!
  12. UNT 24 - Troy 17 Close one, but the D comes up big this week and special teams stop Troy cold on returns and FG attempts while Chancellor becomes UNT's all-time multi-purpose player with two exciting run backs of kick-offs by Troy and catches a 35+ yard-er for a MEAN GREEN TD! Be there or you will miss out on all the Mean green Fun!
  13. Excellent! I do think the Alumni Magazine at UNT is a very good product.
  14. Who says UNT has not reached out to this group? In fact, UNT is currently engaged in several joint projects with NCTC.
  15. GREATNESS! One I have been an advocate for going back several years. In fact, I am scheduled to speak to this group on Oct. 19th just to share my experiences with them as an Alumni. I am really looking forward to being there as this is the future for UNT...and the future begins NOW! These students are excited about UNT, want to be part of the UNT experience and will be the future leaders for the region and for UNT. Super happy to see this getting a start at UNT!
  16. You know, when I saw that in the DRC my first thought was not that the DRC was dismissing UNT, but rather how could we do this same sort of thing for UNT home games? How do we reach out as a city and community to our "out of town" teams to get them to see Denton as a place to come. Then it dawned on me that more OU fans pass through Denton to and from the Texas-OU game than any of our home football opponent crowd numbers...ever! I think Denton has a good idea here for our hotels, restaurants and entertainment venues to market Denton as a spot for OU fans to "stop and stay" during that weekend. Heck, I love to rack in Oklahoma dollars for the Denton city coffers...so, good for Denton in trying this. NOW...Denton...how about a tad more effort in supporting the UNT games? Surely that doesn't take rocket science to try to do...and surly there is a bigger POTENTIAL audience right here in the metroplex for that base than the OU fan base. Why not just a little more effort in that as well? So, for those of us who live here or near here...what are we going to do? Just post some comments on GMG.Com that the same folks will read, but no one will read that matters in this debate???? Or, shall we get in touch with the Denton Visitors and Convention Bureau and professionally and properly ask what they are going to do to promote Denton as a destination spot for the UNT home games? Telling them how much they "suck" in nasty letters and phone calls...well, that will get you what you deserve...NOTHING. But, perhaps a few gentle and professional phone calls and letters telling them their OU fan base idea is a good one, but have they also considered such support for the UNT games might just get them to thinking a bit. Worth a try? What do you think? If it bothers folks enough to post here...shouldn't it be worth the effort to actually do something? Just asking.....what do you say? Should it be a concerted effort with a multiple signature letter...like "we support Denton as a UNT game destination" letter or what......who wants to lead here....
  17. Is this a promotion arranged by, set up by and run by athletic department personnel? Or, perhaps by the UNT administration to entice families and/or students to attend various Family day activities...not JUST the football game? I really don't know, and while I agree that "attendance" should be required to win, I really don't know how the University could require that IF this were a "Family Weekend" promotion. Should it have been coordinated with athletics if it was not...YEP (my opinion) Should attendance be required to win? (Yep...my opinion) BUT, there is an enticement to attend the game anyway as the name will be announced at half-time of the game. If I had an entry in this thing I would darn sure come to the game to see if I had won! If I were the type of student who did not attend games, I'd probably come until the name was announced and then leave. I do this the game gets some "play" from this promotion. And, you know what...everyone can do everyone else's job better...until, of course, they actually know what all that person does and all the conflicting pressure and responsibilities that job entails. Looking at what happens after it happens and looking from the outside in ALWAYS makes things seem so easy. Check back with me when you actually have that job and let me know how easy it is and how you have made such great improvements. Might happen...you might just be God's gift to that position, but until you walk in those shoes for awhile....... Sometimes, even the best of minds, and the best of creativity, just can't get everyone to buy in......has happened in every workplace where I have ever worked. Heck...even some of my great ideas when I was leading the bank didn't turn out as great as I had expected...gee...imagine that? Ha! And...I learn something from every crazy hair brained project i attempt here at UNT to support this program or that.....and I get lots of folks telling me how it should have been done or how I can do better next time....rarely does anyone volunteer to help me make it better...just want to tell ME what I should or should not do next time. Think about it..... Let's all hope this is a game that draws a very big crowd...as Coach mac said at last night's radio show....the team really draws emotion and strength from a BIG & LOUD crowd. Let's all do what we can to give them that BIG CROWD SATURDAY...and, yes, let's hope this promotion...no matter how much better some think it could have been organized...helps put a few student and their parent rear ends in the stands. WHY NOT NORTH TEXAS INDEED!
  18. BE THERE!
  19. Well...he did get a degree in sociology...just saying.....at least he wasn't wearing an Alabama shirt...and what makes Alabama a "real" school and UNT not a "real" school, I dare wonder? Stupid is as stupid does.
  20. Silver...while I agree with most of this and gave you a +1...please know that you are not speaking for all alumni when you infer that "they are not part of something". Sometimes you get out and back from what you put into something. As you may know, I give a lot of my time to UNT and I feel VERY much a part of UNT. Perhaps some of our Alums who don't feel a part of it may need to actually open their eyes and see where and what they can be a a part of and where their interests in getting involved lie...it's really a two way street as it is in most cases. Sit around and want to be spoon fed? Well, you will probably be very unhappy...get involved...well, might just open ones eyes a bit. I know you are involved in several areas, but many alums are not....if they feel "left out" or not a part of anything, well perhaps they should look in the mirror and see the reason why. Lots of areas and ways to get involved these days....my bride thinks I may be too involved with all the days and hours I spend on various projects for and with UNT (HA!) ....so, give it a try. One might see how taking that initiative to get involved might just make one actually feel involved and feel a part of something great going on at UNT these days. And, i am not talking just about athletics here....lots of areas in which to get involved...including the Alumni Association who just helped to sponsor a great Oktoberfest event and watch party at the Alumni pavilion just this last Saturday...everyone attending certainly felt a part of UNT...or so it appeared to me!
  21. Will be interesting to hear what Coach mac says about special teams at Monday evening's Coach mac show at Rudy's. We know he won't go into too many details, but am pretty sure he'll have a word or two to say about it...doubt he'll say much about the officiating as I think there are conference rules against public "badmouthing" of officials. And, heck, the officials didn't make K-St. run that kick-off back nor make our DVB's let those two K-State receivers get so far behind them on the two TD catches. Take those three mistakes away and to heck with the officials' calls. I had a coach tell our team once that if you are complaining about the refs causing us to lose, you are on the wrong team...went on to say something like...all refs are "bad" from time to time, we need to make the plays that win the game...winning and losing is up to us...no excuses! Can't say as I bought that hook, line and sinker as a player on his team, but think it works pretty well regarding the officials at Saturday's K-State-UNT game. Edit: Just so everyone is clear here...I did think the refs stunk up the place in that game! Very bad job overall.
  22. HOF Worthy, untcampbell! Great stuff...well said!
  23. Well...folks...APOGEE this next saturday...let's fill that one up as that's the one that counts for the Mean green nation! I'll be ....hoping you can be there as well!
  24. Received my signed photo in the mail yesterday...way cool. I know the Mean green nation can help get Johnny a ride in Sochi...so, let's get this on! UNT 90 GRAD...love your idea...I'll be there and I'll donate if you guys can get this on...if I can help in anyway...let me know!
