  1. Mac also mentioned that throwback uniforms were being selected for the team for the first game next year! Celebrating 100 years! Way cool.....UNT comes out in throwback uniforms...then, those uniforms will go on sale to the public with the proceeds benefiting the Athletic Dept. Uniforms will be Nike. Way cool...let the speculation begin....Fry era lime green with the Flying Worm on the helmets? Have no clue but Mac is a Fry guy....so, could be, right? That game the last Saturday in August will be something to see....must see in person for Mean Green fans everywhere.....make plans now! BTW...good show tonight...even with a few of the broadcast team missing due to illness. Great stuff for the crowd during breaks as well...pretty funny at times. Anyway....bring on the throwbacks!
  2. I can't remember!!!!! You young whipper snapper you...+1 for you sir...well played! back at ya!
  3. Absolutely...do not disagree at all....helpful assessments, done in the proper way and professionally are always welcome. And, FYI...I am asked quite often by various staffers my opinion...and, in private, it is not always what some might think it would be. But, it is ALWAYS done in private, with the proper person and in a professional and respectful manner. PS...those on-line survey answers you mention are not shared with the public. being critical for the sake of being critical is in no way helpful...and in fact is quite damaging. If you don't know the difference I suggest you learn it.....constructive criticism is always welcome (or at least should be) within any organization...constant whining from folks who have a consistent history of whining is not going to be listened to, but rather turned off. Those of us who have worked in the private sector with the public for many many years tend to know how this works as we experienced the "whiners and constant complainers" and weeded them out pretty fast from those offering constructive criticism and constructive suggestions. We had a saying that was very true...and acted upon from time to time..."Sometimes you just have to FIRE a customer". Please raise your hand if you think whining on a message board is the way to help enact change anywhere????
  4. Ok...really tried to get over FFR's latest inane stab at my past support for the UNT athletic program...just want to set the record straight a bit (and not talking about financial donations here as that is none of any one's business)...but just attendance type support....well, maybe a tad other as well. And, please skip this if you wish...not in any way "bragging" about anything here...it just is what it is... Let's see...actually saw (in person) Abner Haynes play for UNT (I think that was the first game that got me interested in North Texas...lived in Dallas at the time and drove up with my Dad...great fun), went to classes with Joe Greene and saw all of those games, had season tickets to basketball back in the "Original pit days" and during the first year the Super Pit (with the orange seats opened). Actually was part of the group that Joe Holland help start to replace the seats with green ones...you can see our names on a plaque attached to the Super Pit wall in the concourse level...did you see those orange seats FFR? Sat through the snow game at Fouts against Florida State...I think that was well over 30 years ago (I think Silver was there but I doubt FFR was there...you remember those teams FFR?), saw Shanklin play in person, our kid was a BB ball boy for about 7 years for UNT...took him to his first UNT BB game in 1979 when he was 3 DAYS old...yes, sat in our season ticket seats....don't think just random non-supporter's kids get to do that job for seven years...do they? Actually refereed a Men's SOCCER game/exhibition at Fouts, was part of the UNT Soccer booster club (yes, we had one of those back in the day) and sat through the meeting where the men's program was "killed"....Was part of a program here with the Mean Green Club years ago where we bought life insurance policies to help fund the program when/if we all keeled over...Joe Holland was involved in that as well...that program was eliminated after a few years.....Loved watching Jordan case play, saw Iseed Khoury kick those amazing field goals and then play men's soccer....Oh, yes, I did miss about 4 years in there when I was serving in the US Air Force during the Viet Nam era...guess you are right FFR....I am a newbie! Maybe you just didn't see me as I wasn't wearing a special costume and pretty much blended into the crowd....by the way...loved those BB games in the old Pit...loved watching all those FB games I did at Fouts and now at Apogee. So, did I see that 2000- 2001-2002 era group play....oh, yes...great memories of that group and as I mentioned earlier, we have a "chosen grandson" who played during that period...so, yep...saw a bunch. Want me to bring my Men's soccer team autographed ball to the next game...got that for my work with the booster club years and years ago while you (FFR) may have still been in diapers...who knows? Or, how about my Steve Sloan autographed Mean Green sports poster? Wonder where that came from since I am so new to the program????? OK, enough....tired of this stuff.....the next time you want to compare "who has done what and for how long" you might want to do your research first. AND...let this be said loud and clear....WHO CARES?????? I do this because it is fun and I love it...not to try to be "better" than anyone else. If that's your game, you have some personal problems to deal with it seems....MANY MANY folks on this board and elsewhere have records of support for UNT athletics that would put what little I have done to shame. But, funny thing...those folks are not the ones trying to belittle me and what I have done for UNT...they tend to say thanks more often than not. And, most of us realize that every supporter is important...new, long-time or in the middle. And...every one should be thanked. But no one in the Athletic Department should have to kiss any part of any fans anatomy just becuse they give or in some cases "used" to give and just want to live in the past. Perhaps a little perspective would help. Worth thinking about perhaps....sorry to all for posting this, but sometimes you get need to set the record straight. The folks I really care about will understand, others well, you have my apologies for having to put up with this.
  5. WOW...some really amazing posts here. Indeed...some folks are letting their frustration with the way this year has been going get the best of them. But, it's good to have a message board where they can vent such frustration. Wouldn't want them to actually do something rash. The funny part to me is that some who rag on Mac and Company on these boards then go "buddy up" to them in public...along with other members of the AD staff who they call on to be fired on a regular basis. But, thanks to GMG.Com there is a place where we can all go to be experts. Got to love it! You pay your dues here on GMG.Com you get your say...fair enough! Just try to keep it civil...hint hint to some.
  6. Been seeing any good tennis lately?
  7. And they will absolutely have no place for those who always want to see the glass as half-empty, those who "used" to and those who try to tear the program down in public every chance they get. So...we are doing philosophy now...cool.
  8. Ha! I know you are kidding, but this is what concerns me going into this season...I think expectations might just be a tad high right now, and if it happens that it is the case, what will happen then? I think this team is going to be very very good in the Sunbelt this year and could contend in other "bigger named" conferences as well...but no way this team goes undefeated...way harder to do in basketball than in football.....and I expect them to win the SBC tournament...but win every game against the likes of Creighton, K-State, etc. Hmmmmmmmmmmm. It is, however, going to be one of the "funnest" for the fans and one of the more "successful" for the team than we have seen in many years at UNT, so buckle up, get your season tickets and come enjoy the ride!
  9. Amazing how one's perspective does change once they have kids, actually start to work to actually support a family and have many more responsibilities than does the average college student. And, yes, college is THAT time when people seem to try to "grow up" and many do so pretty "strange things"...yes, I can relate to all that.....but, once the facts of trying to raise kids, earn a living, pay taxes, etc. hits home, things do change. Just wait until some kid yells obscenities around your 6 -10 year old and you have to try to explain why he/she can't do that while others can...and try to answer why their parents did not teach them any better. ha! True story...it happens. I truly TRULY hope these folks keep this thread and read it back a few years from now. In the meantime, i guess those who "know better" should probably stop trying to explain....experience will eventually be the best teacher! That and the fact that most of these folks will eventually grow up...MOST!
  10. OK, I know what you are doing here...well played!
  11. I'll be looking for your bride....you are much calmer, saner and likable with her around. You are a lucky fella. And, since no was was actually, complaining about anything...at least from what I could tell, the sun will indeed come up over the Super Pit...and the bonfire ashes and Apogee as well. Book that too, Sarge. Hey, Can you help us get the basketball team out for a pep rally before the first game? It's tradition, you know. Although that is a complete fabrication...like it is about the bonfire "much ado about nothing" we might as well get the "usual suspects" fired up about some other non-event. I mean, when I was a student at UNT the basketball team always had an all-night-er pep rally on Fry Street the night before the first game. You remember those rallies, don't you, Emmitt? I just could never forget them.
  12. Yes...yes it is!
  13. OK...I can see where you might think that.
  14. Yes...yes he will.
  15. Why would you think that? He's an athlete...he practices every day in the hope of getting on the field. I think he cares as he is an athlete and most athletes want to play well. Was he expect, ing to play? Probably not...so, his head might not have been totally in the game, but that certainly doesn't mean he went into that game not caring how he would play. Now, you could have meant...doesn't care any longer if he plays or not...if that's the case...I think you might have a point in that he might just be resign to the fact that he won't play.....of course that is much different than not airing how one plays.
  16. Unfortunately Lance just dropped a very catchable pass near the goal line and Dallas has to settle for another field goal. Shame...as Lance does have good hands.....I expect to see him make up for that drop with a big time catch and run later....GO LANCE!
  17. Gee, Mom...everyone else is doing it. Why can't I? Great logic!
  18. If so, it is not a good sign...OSU is not thought to be in the running for the Big XII championship AT ALL this season...maybe the team was just working on stuff and saw it as much more of a time for practice and to try out a few things rather than worrying about the core....hope so. This MEAN GREEN team is going to be good. I hope, however, that expectations are not too high.
  19. Hey...thanks for supporting the team. It is YOUR team much more than it is the Alumni's team. Please come back next Saturday for senior day and bring a ton of your friends!
  20. Indeed! Yet, those who support this think it's all OK. Their parents would be so proud...Oh, that's right, they are so proud of it that they probably would not participate in this immature behavior should their parents or kid brothers/sisters be in attendance. The old adage is probably correct here....if you would not do it if your mother was watching, you probably should not be doing it even if she isn't.
  21. Panic? No! Major frustration? Probably so! But, not to worry....Mean Green Wins next week over South Alabama at Apogee on Senior Day. The seniors have been through a good bit during their UNT careers. Let's do what we can to be there and to bring some friends...make it a big send-off for our seniors. They have earned that positive and big send-off. I have already got two folks coming that have never been to Apogee. I am going to be big time proud to show off Apogee and UNT to these folks. I am ALWAYS proud to show off the greatness that is UNT.
  22. Sad part is that you seem to think it is in any way appropriate.
  23. I find your comment a bit ironic based on a personal experience of mine with your own language and actions with one of your kids in tow. However...I agree with your sentiments here 100 percent. This type of thing is NEVER appropriate in public. Sorry you had to experience that...never good.
