Benford Coaches Show Tonight at 7 from Rudy's
KRAM1 replied to GRN-WHT's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Well, I must do a mea culpa here after having an epiphanic moment while driving to work this morning. I have done, in my mind what is unthinkiable and unexcusable! I have posted comments on this public message board that could in not be considerered anything but critical in nature and I have directed them toward a player. Shame on me! That is WRONG and I know it and I hate that I feel into that trap. I hate it when others do it...it is not right, in my opinion, and is not a postive reflection on this program or on this poster...or anyone else, in my opinion, who does the same. While I chasticize others for doing it...I go and follow suit. That is wrong and I feel really awful about it, I want to apologize publicly apologize in the same forum where the critical comments were posted for falling into this mindset. I am done with it...I have been hypocritical here to have called out others for doing the same....stupid of me! So, I am hereby banning myself from posting in the basketball thread for the rest of the week. I won't remove my comments as I think it's a tad late in the game. maybe they will remind me to remember to "walk the walk" as they say if I am going to be critical of others who discuss these kids in a negative way on a public forum. Sorry. -

Well, if so..seems the game planning is working really well for opposing coaches. Had no clue it was so easy to stop a lottery pick in the Sunbelt. They might want to start game planning to stop Franklin. Some folks on here say there is no Benford offense and that Jones is drawing up the plays...so should we blame Jones for out lottery pick being out worked by Franklin on his own team? CJ needs to be led accountable for all these bad plays and poor offenses he is drawing up! So, you are telling me that an NBA lottery pick playing in the Sunbelt...not the ACC, Big Ten, Big IX, but the Sunbelt is not able to take over a game because other coaches are game planning to stop him? Wow...then those coaches in those other leagues who are playing against all the other lottery picks I have seen play on TV this season better contact some Sunbelt coaches and ask them how to stop those guys. Only seems to be working in the Sunbelt and against Tony. These other coaches in the Belt must be super game planners. I will sy again, just to be clear...does Tony have the potential to be a lottery pick? ABSOLUTELY! Is he currently playing up to lottery pick standards...not by a long shot! Can he play up to that potential? ABSOLUTELY! Will he? Remains to be seen. -

At this point in this season...and I repeat...at this point...no, I do not see Tony as a lottery pick. Is he capable of moving up to that spot? Absolutely. But a lottery pick playing in the Sunbelt has the ability to take over a game and dominate it...double teamed or not. Have not seen any indication of that as yet in this season. Again, talent is there...results this season...not so much. Hope that answers it for you. So, back at you...what have you seen in Tony's play so far this season that shows to you that at this point he is a lottery pick? Love the kid...full of talent, but we are talking NBA lottery pick here....you know what a lottery pick can do and does do, so you tell me...at this point in the season... -
Taking a Vacation!

Try Seville in Sapin...loved the place. Switzerland is VERY expensive...might try Austria...Salzburg is great and close enough to Munich to stop there as well and it has a GREAT beer garden...well more than one...you really shouldn't miss Munich in my opinion. Sometimes you can get great airfares by flying AA to Frankfurt and making connections there...driving a rental is not all that hard in Europe...but the TRAINS are great! And don't get sucked in to the First Class train fares...you don't need them on most of the short 3-5 hour rides....clean and on time and fast enough. Used them many many times. Recommend them highly. Believe it or not...the buses are good in England as well...so depending upon where you fly a bus can be great transportation...we took a bus to and from Heathrow to Cardiff, Wales this year...about 3 hours each way...on time, clean, etc. And, when you add in all the airport wait times and lines...well, it can make sense. PM me if you want...have some other ideas for you, but takes too long here... Vacations are very good things indeed! -
THANK YOU!

Fair question here...how is it that Roger Franklin can get open and get the ball in the middle in traffic and when being guarded closely and Tony can't? Am sure the experts here can tell me what I am missing, but seems to me if Franklin can do it surly a potential "NBA Lottery Pick" would be capable of doing it as well. No? Just asking.... -

I'll take another helping of this dose of reality please and thank you! Well said! -
Why don't you ask? They do questions, right? The question might be as good as the answer.

How was the crowd? I don't guess anyone here who has serious questions actually asked any, right? Surprising. -
Opinion...Mac will be the Mean Green's HC next season...the Mean Green will see better results in 2013.

Well said and from a perspective of experience as well. We attend a very traditional church here in Denton, but I have no problems at all with the churches who are trying to reach out to others who are a bit non-traditional. Nor do i have a problem with churches and gyms, bowling alleys, youth ski trips, etc., etc. Our church has what i would consider very low yout attendance because we are not large enough to have the funds to have much of a youth ministry. So, if you want to reach youth, young adults, at risk kids, etc., etc. you have to find a way to attract them on their own level and with something of interest except "fire and brimstone" from the pulpit. Now, that being said, i would never attend one of these mega-churches. For me, I like the smaller churches where I can really feel a part of something and where, like Cheers, everyone knows your name and where I feel I actually make a difference. But, I hear from some of my mega-church friends that they feel the same about their houses of worship as I do mine. So, I guess it works for them and that's great. As to "Rock and Roll Jesus"...well, why not? If it works for you, super. Enjoy the service and get something out of it. For me, if I want to go to a concert I will. But, I don't get the criticism...don't like the stuff...like me, just go elsewhere. But, don't use the size of the church or the program style offered as an excuse for not going at all. Just sayin...lots of different houses of worship and lots of different faiths. Like they say...there is something for everyone out there. If you are of a mind, i am sure you can find one that fits for you.

Got it...8 points...don't disagree with the point of your post...but remind me....how many points did UNT lose by???? If I remember correctly is was quite a few less than 8. I got your point...mine is that the players also need to do their job...they did't tonight at the line....and that number you quote does not count the additional free throws UNT would have had ...had they been able to hit the front end of a one and one....both tonight and Wednesday. If you want to hold Benford and RVaccountable then you surely need to hold the players a tad bit accountable as well, no? How many threes did UNT jack up and miss? How many lay ups were forced instead of bringing the ball back out and setting it up? What bothers me is all this "this is all coaching" without any responsibility being leveled at the players. But, I think folks know I feel this group is very underachieving at this point. So, I am going to bow out of this and future discusions. Appreciate all the views from those who have much more BB knowledge than I do. But, since the view I hold...and will continue to hold until I see a different result from this group of players....is apparently so different, it seems best that I just leave this whole discussion to all our "experts". Oh, I'll be reading, but just reading stuff on this topic going forward. Thanks to all who have realized that this is an opinion board.

Wow...the voice of reality and reason comes from here? Be still my heart! Some folks have never learned that they might want to be VERY careful what they ask for as they might just get it. Anyway, for people who think RV has accomplished nothing in his tenure at UNT, well, they are either delusional or simply have not been looking. I know, I know...start the clock ticking for the "usual suspects"...because it always is the same ones....to attack me personally on this board and another because we don't share the same opinion....10....9.....8.....7...........

All UNT had to do to win this game was to hit free throws like LaLa did....hit those free throws and it is a Mean Green win. Don't see how that is on Coach Benford. One could argue that "coaching" kept the game closer than it should have been and free throws should have been no factore, but that still does not negate the fact that if UNT players had hit free throws they would have won. Tough loss....should have been a Mean Green "W" .... But for a ton of missed free throws that is.....

I think it is foolish and unproductive to place the burden on the U. S. and, while we all do what we can....we need to get the Eco crazies out of it, the politicians to stop playing to the Eco crazy crowd and get some common sense going. Cattle passing gas has been said to do more damage than some of the stuff folks want banned.no one but a fairly poorly educated person on this topic would say that man does not have a role and a part to play in both the cause and the cure here. But, we need solid science and we need common sense. Right now we don't really have very much of either in place. -
I have been told that a couple of UNT folks will be attending. Am sure they will be in green as well...

Amen brother...unless, of course, it's the Mean Green...just sayin.....

Agree...who is responsible for that? Was it JJ's fault last year and now Benford's or do the players take responsibility for their low percentage shooting? Let's all just hope these guys find their collective shots and find them soon. Time to get our shooter in the game and see if he can shake the cobwebs...that's Overlander...that kid can shoot...and I think he will for the Mean green, but in order to shoot you have to get some playing time NOW...please and thank you. Worth a try in my book....it might at least make the opposing team guard the outside a bit. Who knows.....the phantom knows!!!!!

True Dat...don't think any of us really know for certain...maybe we can find at laest a part of the story out Saturday!

Yes, yes it does. Santa...please being UNT a Papa John's for Christmas...PLEASE!!!!!

Sure I got it and basicly agree with you. But this assumes Benford is not actually doing in reality what folks are accusing him of not doing in practice. I don't know what goes on in his practices or how hard he works these guys. The rumor I heard from the players was that practice is much harder than it ever was under JJ...now, that does not mean it is better, right? Anyway...to absolve the players from any responsibility is a bit much for me. Personal responsibility and accountability needs to be placed on more than Coach Benford regarding how these susposed very talented players have been playing. Benford cannot shoot for these guys, nor can he rebound for the guys, nor can he keep them from turning the ball over or taking charges because they want to dunk with a takeoff from the free throw line...while that is way cool and I love it when it works...players of this caliber need to be smart enough to know when to drive the lane and when to pull the ball it out...and tell me how Benford does much about the missed front ends of all the one and ones. So, not disagreeing with you here UNT90...just would like to see some acknowledgement that the players need to be held account6able for that absolutely horrible display they put on last Wednesday. I'll bet we will all see some difference this Saturday against LaLa...as you say...Coach B and his band of very experienced assistants better figure these guys out and soon. Anyway...see you in the Mean Green Room before the game Saturday..

So, if, as you seem to think, this has ZERO to do with anything natural and reoccurring over time in weather and climate patterns, just what is the solution? The US can't change it alone...so what is your solution for say China, Pakistan, India...to name just a few.? -
Anyone recall UNT's record when they went to all their New Orleans Bowl games? Seems I recall one that had a few heads turning as well.....another time/another era..but, this sort of thing does happen...just looks odd...I know.
