  1. Folks...we are going to need a lot more help with this year's event as we want to try to make it our best yet...at this point what I can think of that we need are: 1) Players 2) Sponsors - we have various sponsorship opportunities 3) Silent Auction Items 4) Game Day Help - set-up, registration, silent auction help, take-down 5) Help at game time with yard and down markers 6) Referees - we are looking for folks who have actual flag football referee experience if possible...would like at least 4 referees this year...if at all possible. 7) Team captains There is a good bit of time to plan now in order to avoid conflicts...get this on your schedules now and let's make this our biggest and best GMG.Com Bowl ever! It is the 10th Anniversary after all...got to do it up big! AND...ladies, this is a co-ed event!!!! Hoping to have a good turnout by the ladies this year as well. Come on...you know you want to play! Please PM me if you have thoughts, ideas, want to help, want to volunteer, want to play, have an item to donate to the silent auction, etc., etc. Let's get this on!
  2. Yesterday, Gov. Perry announced the appointment of Mr. Kuehne to the UNT System Board of Regents with a term to expire 5-22-17. Interesting news I think. Here's the link: http://inhouse.unt.edu/governor-names-kuehne-unt-system-board-regents
  3. And, so you had to jump in on someone else's post...very original. But, nice to know the man crush is still going...otherwise why in the heck would you find such a need to just piggyback on someone else's barb thrown my way? You really need to get a new gig....do you ever have anything positive to say?
  4. And...so it did! Tough night for the Irish. Too bad as it made the game a yawner...but, left no doubt in my mind that the right guy won the Heisman.
  5. Well, if you ever came you would know that the open mic is indeed "open". At times they all but beg for folks to come to the open mic...at least they did during the Coach Mac Shows..hard to "censor" a guy's question that just walks up to the mic. And, FYI...I have never asked an open mic question...so, have no clue if mine would be answered or not or if I would be "turned away". Have never seen anyone "turned away". You know, Sarge, folks do come from Dallas for the shows, so the highway is open for you to come and see first hand how these things work these days instead of just throwing out some childish barb at me all the time. What's interesting to me is that all those who "want answers" and have all this, often negative, stuff to say here on GMG.Com never seem willing to show up and ask those questions to the coach or someone who might could actually answer them. And, like GrandGreen said...what in the heck do you want them to say anyway? You want RV to throw Benford under the bus in public? Not going to happen and should not! You want some public mea culpa from RV or from Benford or from Mac? Not going to happen...what dream world are you living in? And, again, FYI...I rarely attend the BB Coach Show. Probably should, may well, this season, but just have been a tad busy...but did make all but one of the Coach Mac Shows...unfortunately the one where Coach Mac bought everyone in attendance a beer! Bummer. But, you are free to attend and see how this works now, and so is anyone who wants "an answer"...try the open mic. They can't ignore the question in an open mic very well, but the real question is...will anyone ask that kind of question in person in public? Hmmmmm..I am certain of one thing, however, you will find yet another way to send a little positive comment my way. Things
  6. Hmmmmmm...and somehow you make this leap...must be a slow day at the rest home.
  7. Looks like Notre Dame better get in touch with "Touchdown Jesus"...... So far they need help. This may just get ugly before the half.
  8. Hope springs eternal. Yes, could happen. Will it?
  9. If you want answers it would probably serve you better to ask someone who might have the answers. They have phones where you live, right? Or, like Dozer mentioned, Coach show live and in person every Monday at 7PM at Rudy's in Denton. Interesting thing is, I heard this same comment from folks during last year's football season, yet they never showed up to ask Coach Mac in person. I wonder why that was?
  10. On this point I am in complete agreement with you. You are 100% correct, Sir!
  11. Might just have a very good point there, Sir.
  12. So, what is the situation with all the experienced assistant coaches? Have they forgotten how to coach for some reason? Not arguing one way or the other...just asking the question to some of my more "knowledgeable" basketball friends....seems strange to me that all the HC experience on the bench has not seemed to help this season's record so much either. What's with that I wonder?
  13. Well, since you asked...I really am not a ND fan, but I tend to like ND due to several friends who graduated from there (who are passionate about the place but don't tend to knock anyone else in doing so), the fact that they tend to graduate their athletes (not just in football but overall), the fact that their academic standards are fairly decent, the history of the place, the fact that their alumni and fans actually do support the place through thick or thin, the fact that it is a pretty small school, enrollment-wise, taking on the bigger enrollment schools successfully, the fact that you see ND alums and fans actually wearing ND gear, etc., etc. No biggie...just like them better than "Bama....again, I do think it would be more than a small upset if ND actually did beat 'Bama, but I hope it happens.
  14. The operative word here being "usually". Still, it's always a crap shoot.....some just easier targets than others. I think we can all name some hires at universities around the country that looked good at the outset, but did not turn out to be so in reality.
  15. Not much history to it...when the Super Pit was constructed, for some reason...maybe they got a good deal on them...ORANGE seats were installed. So, the whole Super Pit, as nice as it was to have it, reeked UT due to the orange seats. First comments from the AD were that they reflected the "fire in the eagle's eyes"...well, I don't think anyone bought that little excuse, but off we went with orange seats. After a short while some folks, greenjoe among them as I recall, decided to do something about it and started a fund-raising action to get the seats re-done in green....as, of course, they should have been from the start. Some folks opened their wallets and checkbooks and donated to have the seats changed out. It was, at first, said that donors would have their names attached to the backs of the seats they purchased. It was determined that not enough folks would see the names if they were placed on the backs of seats (only those sitting directly behind the seats), so they decided instead to place the names on a plaque that is now attached to the concourse level in the Super Pit so more folks could see the names. It's there, so you can see who donated if you care to do so. I do believe that not enough private funds were collected to cover every seat, so I think the school came up with the rest. Not that big of a deal...sort of like the basketball practice facility...call went out for help with this project and some folks stepped up to help. No biggie....the big deal was getting those ugly orange seats removed and replaced. Fire in the eagle's eyes my rear end...right! That's what I recall....am sure others can add to the history if they so choose. It was during the Helwig years...interesting times those for those of us around and engaged at that time. It's, however, history.
  16. I'll be pulling for the Irish in this one, but like some other posters...I think "bama may just win it. GO IRISH!!!!!
  17. Just one more in the long history of athletes and movie stars and other celebs getting special treatment from law enforcement and judicial officials. Sad, how this stuff is always "forgotten" so quickly in the face of celebrity.
  18. Interesting numbers...I do wonder where the revenue for the women's programs comes from if not the student fees. I just cannot see that much revenue being generated by the programs themselves, but would be great if so. Thanks for these numbers...interesting indeed.
  19. Nice win for the Ark St folks. Looked pretty good against a pretty decent Kent St. team. I guess that made the SBC 2-2 in bowl games, right?
  20. Looks like one rookie QB out dueled another tonight, and the better one tonight was not called RGIII. Looks like that knee was hurt worse than expected. Too bad, that kid can play, but tonight "the other guy" was better and so was his team. Hard to believe the Seahawks actually won a playoff game. Guess the Skins can send those unis to the same cleaners the Cowboys sent theirs as their season is over. Here's hoping RGIII isn't injured too badly. Nice win Seahawks!
  21. Those millions came from private donations for the purpose of building that facility. As far as I know at his point, those same folks have no intention of donating to buyout any coaching contracts at this time. I guess it's up to you. If you are so inclined, see what you can do. How much do you think it would take?
  22. Dangerous territory here Green dude....you are hitting a tad close to home for some people here. They won't look in the mirror, but they will blame you and soon start calling you names because they can't think of any other response. Plus one for you, Sir.
  23. Yep...you remembered. Good for you. I think you would also admit, entirely different time...entirely different administration. The sins of the father thing I guess with you. And, what makes you think you know anything at all about "guys like me", and I am really happy that I am not considered by you to be "a guy like you!" If, of course, your negative accusatory and oh so pleasant posts are any indication of your overall attitude. For the record, was not a fan of Helwig...I was a big supporter of the then men's soccer team. Enough said...so, once again you know little about "guys like me".
  24. Careful...that's not a very popular position around here these days. Seems the popular thing to do is to complain and dismiss anyone with anything positive to say or who feels one should encourage support for UNT and its student-athletes. It's an option board, but apparently only certain opinions are welcome these days.
