  1. UNT also provided men's soccer scholarships, and it was far more than a club sport when it was axed. Just the year prior UNT beat SMU on its home pitch and won SMU's own tournament. When axed it was the winningest men's program at UNT. Several players went on to coach at the college/university level and the club level. In fact, one of the coaches of the last team played professionally indoor soccer and now coaches with one of the nation's premier local clubs. One of the players on that last team also helped coach our son's club team. That last team had a bunch of really good guys, and quality players. They were really fun to watch play.
  2. GREAT NEWS! We have our very first FEMALE player sign-up!!! BRITTANY STREMPKE, sister of UNT Cheer Squad member Allison Strempke, has signed-up to play!!! So, all you ladies who have just been waiting for the first female to sign up to play can stop waiting....join Brittany and sign-up!!! Welcome Britanny, we are super glad to have you! You folks better look out and Ms Strempke's got game!
  3. I agree with you Silver...that's why we do this. I hope you feel "sad" enough to help out with a tad bit of a donation. Checks, cash and credit cards accepted. PM me for the address to send a check, cash can be given at the event and a credit card can be used right here through Harry's link on GMG.Com. Our event really made a difference for the Cheer Squad last year, and we are hoping to do even better this year. WE have three sponsors this year as well: M Benjamin Designs Kokjohn Long Snapping and Rudy's Country BBQ In addition several folks have made generous donations of cash or great items for our silent auction. Would love to see you and everyone else at the event on the 23rd. I can also tell you that the UNT Cheer Squad is no where near alone in Div. 1 athletics in having to raise funds to help support the team. The difference is...these are OUR Cheer Squad team members. And, they work hard, and could use our help and support.

  5. I like. I think this is a good move on Fox's part. Remember when the Fox Channel first appreared on the scene? The "big dogs" they were competing against said it wouldn't last...well, history has shown that it not only lasted, but that it has prospered. If I were ESPN I would be taking due notice. And for the Speed Channel fans out there...my guess right now is that lots of motorsports will still be shown on Fox1 after the changeover...hard for a start up to find 24 hour/365 day sports without the NFL and a few others. So, I would fear not....
  6. Golf facility is past the planning stages and into the construction phase pretty much. It is being built in conjunction with the Trophy Golf Club. The Trophy Club will become UNT's home course. A practice facility is being added for the team who will have "first dibs" on times and use. This a another great partnership for UNT and a wonderful expansion of UNT's athletic facilities under our current AD's watch. So, other "Olympic sports" are not being shortchanged while UNT adds baseball. The track facility is in the planning stages and will get proper attention. Wardly...you brought back some very bad memories when you mentioned the men's soccer team. My wife and I were in the meeting with the AD and players and parents when the men's soccer program was "killed". Talk about telling a ton of untruths (is that a nice way of saying lied?)...that meeting was one big lie by our ten AD from start to finish regarding the program. A black day for me in the history of UNT athletics. The ONLY good thing that resulted was the creation of our very successful women's soccer program (as you also noted). UNT men's soccer was GREATNESS...several trips to the NCAA's...beat SMU on their home pitch in their own tournament...really good teams...really rich history!
  7. OK, we are now have a "set" of referees for this Classic! Troy Kokjohn will be joined by Will Overlander (older brother and golfer supreme to Clarke Overlander) as referees for this "Classic" game! Thank you Troy for coming back for another referee stint and thank you Will for agreeing to run herd on the game as well. So, we have refs that can definitely keep up with the players, so "let the game begin"!
  8. No surprise here that some feel that report was journalistic wonder ness as they just might have been the contributing co-sponsor/writer. Skimming the surface for any analysis is easy and takes no effort or skill. But, if the National Enquirer is your cup of tea rather than the Wall Street Journal or Christen Science Monitor then this guy hit it out of the park for you. Am sur all the LaLa fans think he's great. Let' see what he says after UNT ends LaLa's tourney run in game one.
  9. Seems he took that report right off GMG.Com. No real work, just read this forum and copied and pasted! Man, is he ever going to be shocked at what LaLa sees on the floor Friday. Will be fun to watch UNT take a very overconfident LaLa down! Looking forward to being in Hotr Springs to see this win for the Mean Green!
  10. Bummer! Dr. Rawlins will be missed. He did some really good things with and for UNT during his time with the Mean green. He is staying until Dec. 31, 2013, so we will have him to lead the way for the Mean Green for awhile longer. I assume the announcement came now so there can be plenty of time to find UNT's next President. I really appreciate Dr. Rawlins and all he has meant to UNT and the Mean green during his "too short" stay with us! Thanks, Dr. Rawlins...help us find our next Dr. Rawlins!
  11. New Player Update....JARED VAUGHN is IN THE HOUSE! Jared is returning for another year as one of our veteran players. Welcome back, Jared. Really happy to have you with us again this year!
  12. GREAT Lance Dunbar stuff here folks...check it out! Yes, indeed...Grren59 deserves a ton of credit for this....
  13. Would absolutely love to see this happen. Great kid. This would mean that UNT did, indeed, have someone get hot rom 3-point range and would probably mean that UNT won the tourney...Come on Clarke!
  14. Hands down...Odus Mitchell. The rest pale in comparison when everything is considered...everything.
  15. Always thought you might be some kind of a nut! Now we all know...a Texas pecan! Greatness...best nut ever.
  16. Buying in, listening, learning, getting some players back and healthy, understanding why things are taught the way they are, being accountable as a team, paying attention in practice and in the team meetings, believing in what they are doing to name a few. You know, I realize that the loss to UAH was more than a little bad, but this stuff happens in college sports every season to some pretty respectable teams. This team was just going through the motions of learning when that game rolled around. UNT would win by 25-30 if that game were played this Saturday. Night and day difference between that UNT team that played UAH and the one that made a route of the Arky State game last night. I am excited about the improvement I see between those two teams, and that loss is over and in the past. Whole different ball club now on the floor for UNT. Very proud of the UNT team that whipped up on Arky State last night. Really glad I was there to see it! Bring on Hot Springs!
  17. My wife thinks I'm a basket case at times because of all the volunteer stuff I do. Does that count?
  18. Why? Do they live too far out of town or do they have small kids or what? Many schools play weekday games, Halloween or not, and get really nice crowds.
  19. OK, I am back...sorry about that...but I am back with a big mea culpa or however you spell that "my bad" thing. Emmitt is 100% correct....there is a flyer...and I have the thing...my apologies to the "darn mailman" as well. Just found the thing in a pile of "stuff" strewn all over my home office in preparation for the filing of my 2012 taxes. It does, indeed, list the Rice game on Oct. 31st! So...all that angst might just not have been misplaced after all....hey, it is what it is...my bad!
  20. You go Will Atterberry! I am sending you all the best wishes in the world for a great result. You make the Mean green nation proud. Go get 'em Will! The Mean Green Nation is with you! Hit 'em long and deep and high!
  21. Might I quote CaliMeanGreen who started the original thread regarding the date change in the first place: "According to a few players on social media the Rice game was moved to Halloween night on national TV". hardly a flier from out athletic department. But, hopefully Emmitt can find that mailer for me...I missed the thing somehow. Again...darn mailman!
  22. Really...what mailer? Got a link or a copy you can post as I don't recall getting a mailer. Not at all saying there was no mailer...heck, I am saying I didn't get one and I usually get that stuff. Darn mailman! Seriously, not doubting, just asking...I thought it was mentioned by someone that the mailer was from some other school...like , say, Rice.
  23. But, you didn't specify an amount and I think you indicated you were willing to bet anything or something like that. And, we are looking to do some re-work on our master bath...bids are coming in around $15,000. What do you think? Too little, too much?
  24. We have our second and third referees for the game...we have Kyle and Will Atterberry who will team up with UNTFlyer this year to provide some QUALITY refereeing!!! Thanks to all our volunteer referees...could not do it without you!
  25. We have a Cheer Squad Alumni member, and one of the folks who helped get this event ff the ground, playing this year.... Welcome Matt Sherman to the GMG.Com BB Classic 3! We are glad to have you with us!
