Golf Team heading to Washington State Regional
KRAM1 replied to NT03's topic in Mean Green Athletics
Tough draw, but I really do think the Mean Green have an excellent chance of coming out of this regional and advancing. It would be a big mistake to underestimate the Mean Green. On another note...it was FANTASTIC getting to witness TWO NCAA Selection Shows for UNT teams within a one-week span! Pure greatness! Go get 'em Mean Green! -

There would always be some who like the weekend dates and some who don't. Don't see the weekend drawing any larger crowds...especially since they would be drawn out over a month or more. Last one of these I attended for "that other school of mine" was also held on a weekday evening. Did not seem to bother that crowd of over 1000.....wonder what the difference is since that university has far far fewer alums in the DFW area than does UNT and the school is some three and a half hours plus away from DFW? -
Have a great day guys....you share more than a birthdate...you share the greatness that is the Mean Green! Happy birthday greenjoe and oldschoollefty!

Heard last night that UNT might actually have six games televised. But, none the less, five is great news. Seeing more benefits of CUSA membership almost weekly.

Don't know why folks want to "compare how much" as a factor in being part of the problem or part of the solution. It is not how much it is only "if" when it comes to the financial aspect of support. However, there is much more involved in being part of the solution than just writing a check. It is so much more than that, and that is the additional part that needs a good bit of "working on" when it comes to the so-called UNT fan base. It's not two adolescent boys playing the "mine's bigger than yours" game which so many here seem to want to make it about. It is also about attitude, time, talent and how folks do or do not support UNT in a positive way in public...at each and every opportunity. It is about pride in and for UNT...it is about so much more than money. Folks who don't get that, well....one can be part of the solution or part of the problem...it is a personal choice. We all make it each and every day. So, again, I thank flyonthewall (and others...many right here on GMG.Com) for being part of the solution. I will also add that being part of the solution does not mean one is OK with the recent won/loss situation in the major sports at UNT...so do not even try to go there! It might however mean something about how one goes about trying to correct that situation.

And, I am pretty sure if the ref had not made the decision to work in this unsanctioned league that the assault on him would never have occurred. I am no doctor either, but I do understand that choices and personal decisions sometimes have consequences that lead to tragic events. Just like the robber who steals at gunpoint, runs from the cops and gets shot dead by the pursuing officer. Yep, the gunshot actually was the cause of death, but the poor decision made to rob the store was pretty much the action that put everything in motion. Placing no blame on the ref, just acknowledging that his decision...made after being asked by family members and cautioned by the USSF about working in unsanctioned leagues made a personal decision to ref in that league. That decision led to a very tragic accident thus changing the lives forever of a great number of people. I am not interested to trying to split hairs with you nor trying to make this into anything it is not...find something else to pick an argument about...you'll get none here.

Most racist commercial ever?

This commercial was pulled as was the sponsorship for the "artist" in question. -

Not so at the Plano event. Jordan Case ALWAYS does it up right...open bar and way better than "snack foods". The sponsor "Park Place Lexus" foots the bill for this one...we should all thank Jordan case for his generosity and support. Would be nice if a few other businesses stepped up to sponsor these events in Dallas, Ft. Worth and in Denton. Adding the sponsorship to the funds the Athletic dept. puts into these events would really be an added plus. Many thanks to Jordan case and Park Place Lexus and all the Sewell family of dealerships for their support of the Mean Green! -
Short answer...YES HE CAN! Last night at the Caravan Mac mentioned that Burglund is a distant third on the depth chart at the moment and that our two other QB's were way ahead of him...mainly due to lack of time due to injury during spring ball. I got the sense last night at the Caravan that the QB position was far down the list of worries that Mac has going into fall ball. This will be an interesting "battle" in fall practice. I believe those who discount DT's ability to win this battle will be in for more than a few surprises.

While the crowd size was disappointing to me, the event itself did not disappoint. As Thor said...it was fun! Saw a good number of Mean Green supporters and got to chat with Coach Mac, Coach Petersen, Coach Benford, Coach Evans and RV. Lots of good info including status of UNT baseball stadium project, FB and BB recruits, and on and on. Lots of energy in the room with the band, cheer squad, UNT dancers and fans. Certainly enjoyed the event. If you missed this one, try to catch one of the next three. You should have a good time...I would think the vast majority of those attending this evening did. Coaches speaking tonight were, Coach Mac, Coach Benford and Coach Petersen. -

Where have you been? -
If only more would take this same course. It is a choice...one can be part of the solution or part of the problem. Thank you for making the choice you have. It is not the easy choice. The easy choice, well we all know what that is and exactly what it looks like and exactly what the results are of that choice, is one far too many seem to have chosen. Your choice, however, is one that is making a significant and positive difference for student-athletes and programs at UNT. Thank you.

Winning...plain and simple. At this time the UNT fan base in the majority is pretty much on the bandwagon variety. That is fairly understandable given the record the last some odd years. It's too bad, but it is true! Are things changing a bit? Sure they are, but winning will get UNT and its fan base much much faster. So, let the winning begin!

Yep...this is dumb. But, so are all the illegal immigrant marches...those folks are breaking the laws as well, but there seem to be no consequences for their actions. So, why not this "dumb" group as well? Just yesterday in Dallas several illegal immigrants were interviewed on TV during the "March"...no repercussions at all...at least they were smart enough to all be carrying US flags and not those of Mexico this time around...now that WAS dumb. Dumb is dumb...no matter which side of the political spectrum or which side of the gun debate you might be supporting. This march will have no more impact than the one in Dallas had yesterday. But, hey, they get to feel like they are accomplishing something...just keep the thing peaceful.

Sanctioned by the local soccer association that is itself sanctioned at the State and National levels by United States Soccer Federation. The same governing body that sanctions the US professional league, our World Cup teams, etc. And, yes, indeed it does help. That referee was not covered by the insurance provided by USSF by refereeing in an unsanctioned league. The incidences of "bad behavior" by players and fans alike is MUCH MUCH greater in these unsanctioned leagues. If you read the article you saw where this refs family did not want him refereeing in that unsanctioned league, but he chose to do so anyway. Often these unsanctioned leagues will have players who have been kicked out of the sanctioned leagues for "bad behavior" and also coaches and officials who cannot pass the background checks that are mandatory in sanctioned leagues. Also, in every sanctioned league where I have refereed there is a disciplinary committee that deals with players and coaches who display aggressive behavior...not so in unsanctioned leagues and I can all but promise you that this kid has a history of aggressive behavior on the soccer field. Now, does sanctioning keep it all under control...and can it stop random acts of aggression...of course not. But odds and statistics are much better...MUCH...when working within sanctioned leagues. In fact, if a USSF licensed and certified referee does work one of these unsanctioned games, they are not allowed to wear their USSF referee badge...many still do, but it is not allowed under the rules. We have all seen "stuff" happen in sanctioned leagues as well, but I'd much rather have the odds in my favor than not. And, I rather have the "protection" offered by the national federation, state association and local association than not. In my opinion, this referee, who certainly did not deserve to be attacked, made a very bad personal decision that directly led to his death. I can assure you that officials other than his family had warned him not to referee those games. Really sad when this crap happens. It was a random spur of the moment thing that resulted in a real tragedy for this referee and his family. So very sad.

If only I could +100 you.

You are correct, UNT90....perception is a powerful thing. It's like if you say something enough times, you think people might just start believing it.

Now it's defensive time...hard to do with a hurt arm.

Man, that arm must really be sore.
