Check out this Tony Mitchell Celtic Game Review!

Great idea...you know, because it is always better to form an opinion totally contrary to and what the individual involved says about a situation. BTW...never said anything about Tony being a close friend...just wondering where you get your info since you seem to think Tony is simply telling lies. I think the kid is actually pretty darn honest and heartfelt. I find it hard to believe that you think he lied to all the scouts and team personnel in those pre-draft interviews....and to folks who actually chatted with him while he was still on campus. Until otherwise proven, I will take him at his word.- 60 replies

Well...forevereagle...ever use an I-Pad that wants to correct stuff you do not want corrected? Typing too fast to check what it wants to do ...sorry...bummer! LongJim...perhaps so...good beer here in Costa Rica where Imperial seems to be king! Trying hard to make certain I drink enough to become an expert on Costa Rican beer...especially after the zip line adventure over the top of the rain forest and those class 4 rapids during the raft bit! Beer is needed after that and very much enjoyed in copious quantities! :-) -
I wondered the same thing. Pressure to win can be a two-edged sword. Here's hoping that sword faces the right way for the Mean Green this year. Having a full complement of scholarships, some interesting transfers and some experience a size returning could just help to counteract the pressure to win. Heaven knows, It's time for UNT to do some winning!

Nothing matters except what happens on game day. Love it when Mean Green players, team, coaches, etc. get high ratings, don't like the low ratings, but to keep it all in perspective...these guys and their predictions are worthless. Let's play and see how it turns out. The most fun is going back after the season and laughing at how far off many of these pre-season ratings and rankings are from reality. Good luck to all...strap it on and let's see.

Still getting some blocks...Pistons should like that along with the boards.

MGB: UNT picks up wing Maurice Aniefiok
KRAM1 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
It could be such a fun post, and one that would certainly draw the ire of a select few here, but let me just say...nice pick up by the Mean Green. Actually it seems next year's squad may just be a really fun one to watch. Nice pick up by the Mean Green coaching staff. Beginning to wonder if some who predicted less than 10 wins are wanting to reconsider...probably not, but that bet I made with a certain someone is looking better every day...it was $10,000, right? Hopefully most see the humor here...but, it is North Texas, right? -
To my knowledge the first ever university recognized and sanctioned student alumni association. If I am incorrect, I apologize, but do not recall any other such officially recognized group at UNT.

I am not blaming anyone individaully...unlike you and several others...I am going with what the player has said both in public and in private...show me where I blamed him for anything...you are so tied up in you little pity party that you refuse to even acknowledge what the player himself has said. If anyone is blaming anyone it is the player himself...and of course you. And, as I asked Emmitt and Mean green Texan...how many times have you talked with Tony one on one....you know the story does not change even in private conversations. He likes Benford...took him to the draft with him, etc. This is an honest kid...he admits to his mistakes and he tells it like it is...yes, even in private. So, before the blame games start with you guys all over again...or should I say continues...please tell us all how many one on ones you had with the kid....Tony is a great kid with tons of talent and, who I believe, will do well in the NBA...he is also very hionest about what happened and his part in it with the Mean green team this last season. We all know that it was no where near all Tony nor all his fault...he, unlike some, is at least willing to admit to some responsibility for the way things turned out. The only folks blaming anyone here see to be those who want one other guy to shoulder 100% of the blame. Ad was said at Bastogne.... NUTS! Bastogne...did I spell that correctly...probably does not matter to most here as most are probably too young to get that one....- 60 replies

Can't ever be too PC these days. Come on folks let's play nice and not hurt anyone's feelings. You know it's always a super advanced nation where one cannot flush the toilet paper along with the crap-ola because the sewer system cannot handle it. Be nice folks...hey, even in Costa Rica, one of the more advanced economies and democracies in Central America, you cannot flush the tp. And, while a good portion of the population lives well, comparatively speaking, there is much need in the rural areas for improvement in living standards. Unless, of course, you consider $400/month a great wage. I would never refer to Costa Rica as second or third world..nor would I Brazil, but that term is far from obsolete in many parts of the globe...unless, of course, it is not PCenough for you. -
Ancient history...the times they are a changing! Won't happen overnight, and some solid winning years of football will help speed it up, but lots of work is now going on in many campus areas to help students connect early and stay connected. Of course, some will never connect with athletics, and so be it, but connecting with your university does not mean only in an athletic sense. UNT now has a Student Alumni Association for the first time ever...small in number now, but growing. This sort of thing helps, but does take time...just one example...there are so very many others.

Indeed, but careful, Grant. It's not good to think something went well and then post it here on GMG.Com very often when it comes to anything UNT is involved with these days.Ha! Just kidding... -
Wow..this young man is heading for a let down when he hits the first few days of two-a-days and finds that all the attention was in his own very overblown mind. But, hopefully, he is smart enough to pick the Mean Green! Now, who is so bored as to even follow this twitter Twinkie? OK, in full disclosure, I am just tired of these over ego'd teenagers and their Look at me...I am so cool" crap. Yep, I am of yesteryear....I admit it. Good thing I am not the one having to put up with this teen ego stuff on the recruiting trail, huh? I may be the only person who thinks these recruiting/signing announcements are way overblown...I get it...it''s perhaps an age/maturity thing....just sign and get on with it.

I have absolutely no clue what you mean by that statement. I am going by what the man said about himself. Personally, I am a Tony Mitchell fan, and have spent time chatting with him on more than one occasion one on one. Great kid...great rep for UNT as he does say he loves the place and loved his time at UNT. But, even he acknowledges that he gave less than full effort and even lost interest in the season. To ignore what the man says about his own efforts is just foolish and speaks of denial. In no way does Tony Mitchell blame Coach Benford for his play and lack of motivation. But, only at North Texas it seems so many want to play the denial game. If it makes folks feel better to ignore the very obvious, fine, but it is what it is. Tony was bound for the NBA and he is motivated to give all he can to secure his spot with the Pistons. Every member of the Mean Green Nation should be on his side and be wishing him nothing but success. I know I am...but I am also not in denial of what the man himself has said but publicly and privately. So...I say agin...go get 'em Tony...the Mean Green Nation...at least most of us...are in your corner!- 60 replies

Appreciate your friends view..no doubt, but he does need to open his eyes a bit...it is estimated that in excess of 80% of the population of Brazil lives in poverty. Things are so what differ erect in the bigger and more touristy cities, but that means little to the masses. Hey, I agree that Brazil is doing some really great things with its economy these days, and appreciate the efforts being made...and no, I personally do not consider it "third world", but given any standard, the vast majority of residents are very poorly provided for and most are missing out on the best of these economic gains. However, compared to several of its neighbors, yep...doing pretty darn well. Especially if you are an ex-pat working in one of the larger cities. Hope you friend gets to go to the World Cup games...in Brazil they will be fantastic! -

No new line of reasoning at all...if you think Mitchell was personally motivated last year you were watching a different Mitchell...he even said as much himself. How do you discount what the player said himself? It seems it might just be faulty reasoning...hmmmmmm...or the fact that some are so stuck in never never land that even a plain and simple admission from the player himself is not sufficient. Now...THAT is amazing. But, only at North Texas, right?- 60 replies

Agree with GrandGreen here...I, too, attended that game and there was no where near the number announced in attendance...but, season ticket holders are counted I assume. Very few students at that game as Grand says...yes, weather was not good, but attendance was terrible...and, what a crummy playing surface...sure hope they spruce it up for CUSA....and Apogee puts the place to shame!

Yes...all incoming freshmen parents are invited. This is part of the freshman orientation program now, and appears to be having some initial success. And appears to be getting some very positive reviews. Apogee and the Club Room area is a real plus it seems as is our entry into CUSA!- 7 replies

Have you spent any time in Brazil? Most of the population lives in deep poverty on little to no wages...economy is large, yes, but that gives absolutely ZERO picture of what life is like for the majority in Brazil. Unless you have studied it or been there you have no clue. Why do you think the police have been going into the shanty towns and clearing people out near the World Cup venues? Not because they live so nicely and have such a great life in that 8th largest economy in the world you talk about. -

Indeed, Drex...indeed...that and a ton more personal motivation. I think Tony has always seem himself at the NBA level, and will shine because he has the self- motivation to want to be successful at the "next" level. Self-motivation and just "plain want-to" bad enough can be a wonderful thing in so many ways...we all see it here in these first two games with TM. Here's hoping he makes it Big Time.- 60 replies

Excellent! BTW..was told by a staffer that they have the parents of incoming freshman come to Apogee (if they wish) as part of the parent program. They get to see the stadium from the club level, here from some coaches, see some workouts ( if in progress) and they are given the opportunity to buy season tickets. Was told that several agents took them up this year on the season ticket thing. The AD has been working for a few years to be included in the parents part of the orientation. They are now part of it...this CUSA thing along with Apogee does help.- 7 replies
