  1. Are you anywhere near 35 years old? Seriously, you certainly look much younger than that.
  2. Seems to me that the real proof is how the recruits develop, not how they are rated before they ever don a D1 uniform and step into a D1 football game. This year would seem to be quite telling for how The Coach Mac era is going with respect to his staff's recruits. We will all see pretty darn soon now. Just need to make sure that Dallas Cowboy injury bug remains in California and does not infect the Mean Green.
  3. Roy Metzler is indeed a big time supporter of UNT. Mean Green Club Member, season ticket buyer, Alumni Association supporter, etc., etc. In fact, I met with Roy today to discuss this year's Alumni Oktoberfest event set for Sept. 7th at the Pavilion. He will be a sponsor (again this year) and will be helping with both the food and the beer. Very generous in his support. As an aside...After the meeting I took BBQ home for dinner...anyone who says there is no good BBQ in Denton was certainly not sharing the ribs, sausage and brisket I ate this evening....excellent!
  4. Perhaps it doesn't fit his personal agenda...nothing for him to gain from it...obviously the overriding factor in such pronouncements from the White House these days. Maybe he will now invite Zimmerman to the White House for a beer since he sure did not learn anything from the self-serving pronouncements made from the White House during that incident.
  5. Perhaps Pelosi can say something about it...concrete matches with her pretty well in the way of intelligence. So, how about her? And, where in LA, CA are the streets not paved these days?
  6. Why can't they make comments that attempt to support all the citizens of the nation....opportunity missed, but nothing new for these two and their personal agendas?Too bad! GAAAHHH! One would think the "most powerful man in the free world" and the attorney general would want to unite, not divide....but guess not! Par for the course...too bad...big opportunity missed!
  7. Metzler's and the Smokehouse are both locally owned as is This Old House. Rudy's is owned by some good guys who do support UNT, so while not a one shop operation they get a bit of a pass on that from me...the green chili stew is great by the way! BBQ and Mexican Food ... Which is good and which is not ... Is a very personal thing. Message board debates on this is never going to get anywhere. Sort of like women...all are good, just some are better than others...wisdom from my Dad. A wise wise man, indeed.
  8. Your right...Obama and Holder really screwed the pooch on this one....you were looking for it, so happy to oblige. It is devoid of political grandstanding because it does not serve either Obama or Holder to play that card in this case. Too bad they both forgot that they represent each and every citizen of the U.S. Nothing for either to gain here it seems. Shame...yet another missed opportunity to lead.
  9. Well, it seems to have made CNN. WELL DONE...and, indeed, we could use plenty more of this type of headline. But, we probably would not have seen Obama and Holder grandstanding as much if it had. This is the type of news that should lead the headlines...not be relegated to some back page, under the fold, sidenote as they often seem to be. Well done. Hope these kids get a ton of recognition and I hope it spurs them on to even bigger and better!
  10. Interesting...Coach Benford (and Coach Evans and Coach Lundy) actually participated in the Mean Green Club Volunteer Rep phone-a-thon this year....making several calls to Mean Green Club members and non-members alike trying to help. And, staying a good portion of the time as well. Funny thing...in the entire time I was there...and I was there for the whole time...I failed notice you! But, hey, pretty funny joke...well played.
  11. Hey, good stuff here...thanks for this info...should be another great year for the Mean Green Soccer ladies. Looking forward to seeing a few games!
  12. Mercado Juarez is now El Guapo's...I believe the guy who owns and runs El Guapo's was working for Mercado Juarez at one time.
  13. Well, you will get lots of "agreements to disagree" on this subject, but, for me...I try to support the folks who support the Mean Green, so I would say not to forget: BBQ: Rudy's and Metzler's Mexican Food: El Guapo's Yep...plenty of others, but this will perhaps start the ball rolling for you! WELCOME to Apogee...home of the Mean Green!
  14. First Obama and then Holder...so many missed opportunities. Too bad that leaders try to divide rather than unite these days. Just keep throwing gasoline on the fire guys, that always works! A "teaching moment" lost by both these guys recently...so much that could have been said to help all the nation...they do represent all citizens, right? Could easily have gotten their personal points across in such a more thoughtful and uniting way. Sigh...just more of the same...happens from both sides these days. I am wondering when, if ever, our leaders on both sides of the aisle will realize that there are times to use the bully pulpit and times to be "the bigger person" and do what they can to help the entire nation, not just one set of constituents?
  15. What a great story, and no real surprise regarding Coach Mac. My best of wishes go out to this 15 year old young man for a speedy recovery. Here's to hoping that bedroom and ball are just what he was looking for in a new room scheme and will help speed the recovery! Really proud to be even a small part of this great Mean Green Nation. Thanks so much for allowing this great story to be told!
  16. Happy birthday guys! Make it a good one!
  17. It is a good sign when talk turns to uniforms on GMG.Com. It means that the season is fast approaching! Yippeeeeeeeee! Way too much time between basketball and football that track, swimming, softball, tennis, etc. simply cannot fill completely. It is time for some football!
  18. Excellent...really happy you will be joining us at Apogee this year!
  19. Agree with you, Christopher...it is indeed brilliant. I like the approach that Rice brings, and I have a good deal of respect for the university and their ability to field respectable D1 teams filled with real student-athletes. Glad to have them with us as a member of CUSA! Looking forward to Ames against Rice!
  20. Go Lance...you make the Mean Green Nation proud!
  21. Thanks for the heads up here! Agree, pretty nice interview.
  22. Agree with you here...but also a history of corruption in local politics...not a good mix! Problem is..when they had a chance to do something about it to avoid bankruptcy, the unions opposed them every step of the way, and some local political cronies blocked every attempt to streamline city government, departments, taxes, employment levels, etc., etc. unfortunately...the one trick pony economy ( the same one getting billions and billions in stimulus dollars) along with the "politics" of Detroit doomed it to bankruptcy. Unfortunately, you cannot take politics out of this...which certainly did not have to happen. But the tough decisions were not made. Result....bankruptcy!
  23. Oh, we'll see about that referee thing the next time they play the US. Interesting thing is that we talked about the snow game in Denver to lots of different Costa Rican folks while "in country" recently. To a person they were very diplomatic about it, but you could just sense that they are more than a little ready for the rematch in San Jose. In another soccer note...the young co-pilot on a local Costa Airline we flew (Nature Air) had played in Dallas at the Dallas Cup tournament when he was sixteen years old. He absolutely loved the experience! Way cool. Made our day talking soccer with a guy who AD played in the same tournament our son's team had played in a few years ago.
  24. Good news...making those contacts is super important for future recruiting. Thanks for the info.
