  1. My wife absolutely loves the place. Almost as much as I love Apogee...well, maybe not that much, but she has that place as number 1 on her Denton beer parlor list. Super friendly, great atmosphere, great beers and ales...well, and mixed drinks as well I am told, but neither my wife nor I get anything except beer and/or ale. Drag her back down and make her go in..well, promise her whatever she wants as you probably should not force her to do something good for her if she refuses, but if she goes...she will go back and you both will be very happy.
  2. Lots of "Canada" on that list and Canada is as close to some of those schools than FIU is for UNT. I could see UNT going to northern Mexico if, of course, the drug cartels were no longer controlling Mexico. Would love to see if it would turn out to be a big advantage...I like advantages...especially for the Mean Green!
  3. Bingo...just posted same in the tread regarding the QB's. it is a fact folks...did you watch the Cowboy game last night? Offense could not score...and I mean on the field!
  4. Now..this is the most important question asked? Oh, how I hope it was a pass! Christopher Walker...were you driving by slow enough to tell?
  5. Or lose if he defense can't hold them to under 60 or so...see referenced Navy game. Seems to me it takes both the offense and defense playing well to win. Let's hope that by the time we all see those throwback uniforms that BOTH the offense and defense are playing well.
  6. And, just think how many tickets and new fans we could have generated if we had just let te public in to watch all this! One only dares to think. I wonder if there are enough available seats left at Apogee?
  7. That is pretty funny stuff right here folks...well played. LOL! This folks, is how it is done!
  8. Way way too early. Don't tell me you base anything on first scrimmage of fall practice coach speak? We all hope for improved offensive production...but we're you at the last Navy game? One can score close to 60 points and LOSE if you don't have a defense that can stop the other team as well as an offense that can score. So...the coach speak positive is tat the defense is looking better. Where are all the positive comments about the defensive tackles that were said to be a weak point? Defense won the s rummage it was said, so DT's must have one a good job.
  9. And from every other coach in the country..HS, College and Pro. Isn't that always the way it is...especially this time of year? Nothing at all new here and certainly not unique to the Mean Green.
  10. No surprise here at all to me. What would have surprised me would have been if the offense won this first scrimmage. Defenses are usually ahead of offenses in the early days of fall practice. Same with the Dallas Cowboy team that played Oakland last evening. Offense will catch up, and the next scrimmage may...MAY...turn out entirely different. Besides, last year's defense was in need of improvement as well. A better defense makes for a much better offense. Can't win 'em if you can't stop 'em....remember the Last home game with Navy? Just like you can't win 'em if you can't score. I would think Mac planned that competition...as with the competition for several places...to carry on into future weeks. Why not? As a HC, wouldn't you? Keep the level of play up and keep 'em thinking they have work to do. Seems this is typical coach speak...just like Garrett after the Cowboy game last night.
  11. I would hope so as well, but I believe his ratio will be much better this season....he has a more experienced and reportedly a bigger, faster and stronger offense to work with. And remember...an improved defense will help as well. QB's tend to "look" a lot better when they don't have to go 70+ yards on so many drives. So many factors here, but I think we will all see, those of us watching of course, a much more experienced and productive offense this season...led by, yes, our senior QB, DT. Also agree that we will see other QB's playing in certain packages and in certain situations. Seems a good strategy to me.
  12. Is that true? All the Sunbelt and CUSA teams have gone overseas except us? I really thought that only the better financed schools and what some might consider "bigger programs" historically have done this overseas thing. Would be fun to see UNT do this if the costs were in line and if we could generate some real excitement surrounding the tour. If UNT really is the only one that has not, maybe it is time to start thinking seriously about such a trip.
  13. For one, I am plenty happy with DT being our #1 coming out of spring and fall ball. I like senior leadership under center and from what I have heard, DT has really stepped up and into that leadership roll. He, from all comments I have heard...not from personal observation mind you...looks very good in practice and is moving much quicker than last year. He knows the system, knows the players, knows the coaches and he is our most experienced QB. I'll certainly leave the final say up to the coaching staff, but for all the "doom and gloomers if DT starts" out there, I think you need to wait and see before you "throw in the towel" before the season ever starts. With the team seemingly improved overall from last season (this according to coaching reports) I see no reason why that same thing cannot be said about the QB position. Competition at any position leads to improved play and there is certainly competition at the QB position this season. Anyway...we will all know in just a few short days. Come on out and help fill Apogee for the season opener AT HOME this season. If for no other reason than to say you were able to attend a UNT season opening game AT HOME! Pretty unique right there, sports fans!
  14. You will be a much happier person if you learn to be "bitter" about things that, in the scheme that is life, are not that important, for much shorter periods of time. I was more upset after the Troy game last year than I can recall ever being after a UNT game and was muttering under my breath the entire way to the car and was a grouch all day Sunday. Was all over it by Monday! There is always another game. We have all spent a ton of money on games that were lost! Try to learn to let it go a tad quicker. You will live longer and enjoy more the years you do live! Ha! You could have been an Alabama fan and have gone to the A&M game last year.... :-) Now THAT would have sucked! EDIT: So, I see we have at least three folks who think staying bitter for extended periods of time and approaching a full year over a loss for one's team in a sporting event is a good way to go about life. WOW, must be some life if the worst thing ever experienced is a loss in a game that one is not even participating in other than as a spectator. I shudder to wonder how these folks would handle anything even remotely considered a real life challenge. And, I worry about their ability to cope with what life has in store for them. Hey, Dr. Phil is a UNT guy...give him a call...maybe he can give these guys a few life coping skills. There appears to be a serious need here! And, I'll bet that 97and03 IS NOT one of those guys! Just sayin.....
  15. Range Rover? Piece of junk car! Wife and I test drove one before deciding on her current car. Hated it! Absolutely the worse driving car I have ever driven. Yep...Overseas Motors in Froggy's dream town of Ft. Worth. It actually sucked folks....seriously! Probably OK in the Outback, and on the dirt roads, but in civilization...no friggin' way should any sane person spend the highly inflated amount of cash needed to purchase that ridiculously bad driving car. Figures Froggy would drive one..but at minimum wage like he makes it was probably a 10 year old clunker...he cannot afford more with that TCU degree. Hey, what hours do you work at Uncle Julio's? I'll check out your table cleaning ability if you let me have your next week's work schedule. It is posted already in the kitchen, right? Hey, work hard and that TCU degree will get you promoted to waiter trainee soon!
  16. With three quality QB's ahead of him, I can't see anything other than a red shirt year in his future for 2013. But, agree, reports are really sounding good about this kid!
  17. Happy Birthday, youngster! Make it a memorable one.
  18. Seriously? Come on, man, it's Mean Green football. When DT leads the team to victories in both of those games, you would really be sorry.
  19. What? You are watching practice? Excellent! Make it a very slow drive by....
  20. Maybe they will be tired from all the travel when the Mean Green roll into town! You think? Ha!
  21. So, no way possible to dump the Tennessee or Iowa game and replace it with a home one in 2015. That is absolutely impossible?
  22. Midlake...is that about halfway between Denton and Lake Worth? In all seriousness...Midlake is really good...at least they were and I am glad CBL says the new version is good as well. have not heard the newer version, so will withhold comment on that until I do, but if they are anything like the original Midlake...good stuff here folks! Really? Someone is being a toot here I see....
  23. Jim...indeed I was at that dinner as were my mother and father. In fact, my father designed and built that arena for Rex Cauble, and I even testified both in New York City and in Beaumont at Rex Cauble's drug smuggling grand juries! Now, that's a story to tell! Rex Cauble was the Godfather to one of our adopted kids! That, too, a long story. I have been in the office you describe so many times that I can see it perfectly right now. I worked at Western State bank in my first banking gig...thus, the reason I had to testify before those grand juries. Rex spent many a Christmas moring at Susan and my small apt. on Eagle Drive back in the day. Yep...the stories we can tell. Would love to meet up with you and have a Rex Cauble (and Lewis Cauble) story session. Trust me, I could write a book! Met him in 1965 when he was just moving to Denton from Crockett, Texas and knew him until the day he passed away. That's how I got to know Hayden Fry...through Rex and the bank. Was in a bank office at Western on University Drive when Hayden came in and told us he was leaving UNT (and why) before he even told UNT officials...he sat in the office and scribbled out that stylized Hawkeye that very day as we sat and chatted with him....oh, the stories to tell! You brought back a lot of memories here, Plummer, some very good, some not so good!
  24. Just from my personal observations and as one who does not care much about watching practice...any practices for any sport...yes, even soccer.... When I have attended practice sessions last year and the year before at UNT (once each season I might add here for clarification purposes...and those two were the first and only times I have attended a practice session and it was because I was invited by someone else who was attending), I observed no more than 30-40 folks I would say were not staffers or other employees and at least 20 of the 30-40 were relatives of players. have no clue if that is the "normal number", but it was about the same for both practices I attended. I believe both were announced as "open" practices ahead of time as I know I had no sort of "special permission" to attend. Just my personal observation.
  25. Plus 1 for you Sir. Thanks for coming back to the fold and re-joining the Mean Green Club and purchasing season tickets. This is music to my ears as I am sure it is to a lot of people. And, thanks, too for pointing out the great job being done by our UNT staffers.
