  1. Harry...we needed that shot in a UT uniform, why? Ha! Should have taken one of her playing in the alumni game Saturday and posted it of here in Mean Green green! NO ONE looks good in the burnt orange "stuff"!
  2. Well, dang...special things for special folks I guess! Ha...seriously, it always amazes me how items mailed on the same day reach areas away from Denton before they even get to Denton addresses when mailed from Denton. happens to us when we send out invitations and letters...funny, huh? I guess we can chalk that up to the "efficiency" of the US Postal Service. Glad we have acknowledgment that they have been mailed. Looking forward to getting mine ASAP.
  3. Right there with ya Mean_Green09! Aug. 31st and a win over Idaho cannot get here soon enough.
  4. Highly doubtful as UNT has a very nice GRASS soccer field. College games are often played on field turf these days, so I would never say never...and it would only take installing some temporary goals and marking the field. Apogee would make a nice soccer field/pitch, but with the Mean Green Village field being as nice as it is there really seems to be no real need.
  5. WHAT?????? Say it isn't so......
  6. This thread is yet again proof that the old adage is correct...The Backup QB is everyone's Favorite Player! ha! Even when the backup QB has never played a down of D1 ball.
  7. Did you really have to stir that pot? LOL
  8. In all honesty, you really did not miss much this year. Best part was just chatting with fellow Mean Greener's and a few of the players in attendance. My wife and I enjoyed the Varsity-Alum soccer match that happened after the Kick-Off Cookout more. If you had to miss one over the last few years...well, this would have been the one. Enjoyable, but certainly did not match up to those of recent years's past.
  9. Reading comprehension is so hard for some. You know, if you don't get the joke...you might not want to respond...NT03 got it, and I am sure he chuckled a little....And, really that's all I care about. Try to add something positive next time if you can. It's really not that hard.
  10. UNT...am sure you know (and probably witnessed) that the alums have been known to beat the varsity, right? Has happened and not too long ago as I recall. Last night the varsity looked really ready for the season. Seemed to be in game day playing shape. Saw some nice work up front, but would liked to have seen the defense under a bit more pressure. Really good to see Ibewuike wearing Mean Green Green. Very nice surprise. Congrats toCoach Hedlund. Should be a nice addition to the squad. Great weather for the game and as a perspective...much better crowd in comparison to the just ended Kickoff-Cookout. Help to end my Mean Green Day (poster distribution in the morning, Kick-off Cookout in the late afternoon, then the evening with the soccer ladies). Mean Green greatness and fun!
  11. You might have been better at reviewing it if you had attended it! Ha! Good to see you guys at the soccer scrimmage after the Kick-off Cookout! Varsity took the alums apart. Good for them as Coach H is know to get pretty upset when they lose to the alums. This was "over" for the alums in the first few minutes. Looking for good things from the soccer ladies this year....again! Just messin' with ya!
  12. Much different running the scout team...you run plays the way you are told to run them. Not as much "read" required, not as much making something out of nothing. Running the team's offense involves being both able and willing to make those reads and execute plays as they are called, looking off defenders, improvising when necessary and most of all moving the chains. Some guys can have all the skills in the world to look like all world running the scout team. Much much different doing it "for real" and when moving the chains is on your back. I have no clue if this is the case with BB, but have seen several great HS QB's that just could not make he full transition to being a #1 on te D1level. Here's hoping his is not the case with BB and tat it is simply a matter of needing a bit more time to adjust and feel comfortable at the D1level. Seems to have the skill set.
  13. Joe..I was told they were mailed Thursday...if so, no way they get to you on Saturday as they went through UNT's mailing system I would expect...that means, yes, they were mailed Thurs. by the ticket office, but probably did not hit the US Mail system until Friday. I would look for them around Tuesday...keeping my fingers crossed!
  14. Is what is showing now season 1, 2 or 3??? I just picked it up on Netflix recently (thank you for the head's up...good show) and have now watched all of season 1 and 2...is season 3 on TV now?
  15. Thanks to greenjoe for setting this up for us...had a great time chatting before heading out on my "appointed rounds", but also had great reception everywhere I went to deliver a poster or two or three! This is the first time that I can say that EVERYONE was receptive! Unfortunately only a few brave souls ventured out to help this morning...a big thank you those who did...you are making a positive difference. Thanks to: Our fearless leader greenjoe for setting this all up; Christopher Walker - who had the Alumni pavilion opened for us this morning with the big fans going and even some "beverages"; rsw69 who volunteered to work the Flower Mound area and who has really started volunteering for so many of these activities; oldguystudent - who volunteered to work the Lewisville area (my guess is that will will now see UNT Football posters at Hooter's, Red Neck Heaven, Twin Peaks; and NMGreen who worked the event last year as well while home on vacation from out of state...which I think happened again this year as well. So, to the few who ventured out on a Saturday morning to help, you definitely embody the ACTA NON VERBA "can do" spirit. Folks, it really is a fun activity and you get to talk to a lot of folks about UNT football. Heck, greenjoe also brought UNT plastic glasses for us to hand out. At one place (mellow Mushroom) where I delivered a poster, I had employees coming up to me while I was taping the poster to the window and ask if they could have a glass! One said, "always love to support my school"! At another establishment (Weinberger's Deli, I was greeted with "put as many up as you would like and thank you!". they were thanking me? Wow! And at Oak Street Draft House and Social Club (did I get that all correct?) they asked for a second poster so they could get it laminated to display outside in the beer garden as well as the one I put up inside! The above are not the only places agreeing to a poster, just some of the more enthusiastic responses I received. Also put posters up at Fuzzy's Taco, Burgessa Burger and Unique Barbers. Found posters already up at many other places such as Barefoot, Rooster's, Sweetwater, Rusty Taco and several others. Seems the athletic department folks had done an earlier job in getting these up...at least in the area I was working this morning! If you think the attitude of merchants around town is not changing for the better in terms of UNT and UNT athletics then you need to volunteer to help with this project next year and see for yourself. This is proof positive that things are moving in a positive direction and that UNT is, in fact, engaging the local merchants and more and more merchants see the benefit in supporting UNT. Night and day difference this year in my reception at the Mellow Mushroom than I got last year for the same project! Just one example. And, some folks wonder why i stay so positive about UNT. Get out and go around with me sometime and I'll show you why! ACTA NON VERBA folks...Acta Non VERBA! Thanks greenjoe...well worth the time and effort made by this member of the Mean Green Nation this morning!
  16. Is she considered "local"? GREAT get Coach P. Ladies looking really good!
  17. Maybe that's why he left! Ha!
  18. yep...they really should be crucified...it pretty much is up there with the fall of Rome ... historically speaking. At least the haters seem to get the spelling correct. That's something i guess. My error...sorry.
  19. Thanks...my bad...fixed it in my orginal post...guess I know too many Derricks and not enough Derek's. ha! Anyway...good news here for this fan!
  20. Well, maybe because you are still looking at things as if they were the same they were 5-10-20 years ago? At that time your analogy was pretty darn good in many cases, but no longer. That seems to be another challenge we have these days...getting folks to open their eyes and look for the good as much as they want to see the bad from the past still hanging around. Those like Silver and I (and many others on this board) who have been around for more than a few years have a certain "perspective" on UNT that is really quite different from the reality of today. However, some are just not willing enough to open their eyes and see the positive steps that have been taken to create a whole new culture at UNT. It will take more time to "win" the "old guys" over, but the younger crowd have no clue about the challenges of the past with UNT and do not see the past in the same light as some continue to want to do. Is it a work in progress? You bet your belly button it is, but it is progress...and progress in many many areas across campus. If you only focus on Athletics you miss so much of that progress, but if that's your bag...great. But, try to open up a bit and take a closer look with un-biased eyes if you (the royal "you" here...not specifically meaning Silver) can. You might be pretty darn surprised at what you find...and in a very pleasant way.
  21. Great news to see the QB situation starting to settle down a bit leading into the Idaho game. I fully expected this outcome and am, for one, happy to see it take place. I think DT's senior leadership will emerge and we'll all see some more W's this season. I would, however, not be surprised to see the other QB's get some playing time as well throughout the season. WAY to go Derek! Edit: Thanks Dr. Seuss...you caught my big time good on Derek's name spelling...I guess I know to many Derricks! Ha! Anyway...my bad...thanks!
  22. Ok, since I have the punter as my adopted player this year...yes, love me some special teams guys, I would also like to take a second player if rules so allow. As well as I like special teams guys, I like walk-ons who distinguish themselves through their hard work and EARN a scholarship through that hard work... So...if OK, I would also like to adopt TANNER SMITH...TE....I think Tanner will see some decent playing time this year and make a positive impact. So, I'll be happy to report on his success as well. So, Harry...if OK...sign me up for my second adoption for this season!
  23. Indeed...plus one for you, Sir! But, we may just be called "old guys" and out of touch with the cool styles of the day. Just yesterday as we were leaving for a Friday Night Date Nite Dinner, my wife walks out with a shirt...oops...blouse...tucked into the front of her slacks with the back part of the tail hanging out. Told her she missed something....well...to my surprise, she tells me this is the new look and she saw it demonstrated on the Today Show that very morning. You know, Silver, very hard for "pluggers" to keep up with these latest styles.
  24. Just FYI....the TV hook-up was tested this last week and it looks like we are "good to go" with the streaming of the Mean Green game during the Oktoberfest. So, nothing to keep you from coming out and enjoying the fun! No admission fee....come on down! You can register, yes it is free, through the link above...if you would like to reserve a mug...we sold out last year folks....and pay for it at the event, just do so through the above link and we will reserve one or two or three for you. No need to worry about sell-out that way. Hope to see you at Oktoberfest on the 7th at the UNT Alumni Pavilion at Apogee!
