  1. I want to make one thing perfectly clear about these new ring styles....The UNT Alumni Association was not consulted nor asked for any input regarding this change. The Alumni Association staff, board and Executive Committee was caught completely by surprise and had absolutely ZERO knowledge of even the discussion of a change in design. I will leave it at this...just needed to say it!
  2. I ventured over and it was all about sound/music. What else...anything about Mean Green? Ha!
  3. OK, must post this here as the "other" thread was locked...did anyone else notice that AFTER the thread was locked a certain mod decided to unlock it for his own last comment and then locked it again? Amazing use of "mod power" and an amazing example of ego...but I digress..... I want to respond to a post made sarcastically that UNT90 must be a "great guy to be around"... Well, I just want to say that in spite of his GMG.Com persona these days (which I really do not understand) he is INDEED a great guy to be around! I REALLY dislike all these character assassinations and all the name calling that is going on these days in GMG.Com. Everyone should post their thoughts...whatever they are..and their opinions without having someone who disagrees come on here and talk trash about someone in a personal manner whether that be in a cutie poem or a straight on attack. Everyone, please...this crap is taking the fun out of GMG.Com. Take a chill pill and relax and grow up a bit...and that goes for a few mods as well. Come on...it has been said over and over...we are all Mean Green fans, donors, and supporters in one form or another. This getting personal crap needs to stop. Think it over.
  4. You don't read much, do you?
  5. This is just way over the top! You are spewing a lot of venom here, big guy. And, you seem to be calling out a lot of folks here on matters of which you probably have zero first hand knwledge. If it's your opinion, well, so be it...but state it as such. Good Grief, Man, you really do need a vacation.
  6. Agree with you...no biggie. They are from places other than Yexas...what do you expect?
  7. Good grief...not again!
  8. Damn...It is easy to see the challenge just from reading this thread...for a bunch of the most ardent fans, it sure is a bunch full of excuses and whines. Biggest bunch of "glass half empty" folks I have ever been associated with in any way. Good grief people! Get a grip. The sky is NOT falling. Everyone had every excuse under the sun...time to move along. I remind everyone that we witnessed one of the greatest comebacks in UNT football history. Take some time to enjoy it for a change. You can get back into your " fire everyone and everything sucks at UNT" persona in a couple of days.
  9. Amazing how you found your way to Denton and UNT for school. Not knowing that a major university existed and all. Edit: I see someone can't take a joke! Nice.
  10. Just a note...largest crowd ever for the Coach Mac Show tonight at Rudy's. moved the show to the large front room and it was pretty darn full! Really good atmosphere! I will leave the recap to someone else, but just wanted to note the large crowd.
  11. Ha! Ha! There is a watch party IN Denton as well. So, how any folks showed up last week that could just as easily been atbApogee? Just kidding...you know how much I appreciate the efforts you have made and are continuing to make in the area. Remember those first couple? Your group has come a long way, and I applaud your efforts and success! P.S. I will be in Utah this weekend. That really is a bit far of a drive to Allen.
  12. Ain't over until it is over!
  13. This is so well deserved. Very happy for DT. HE EARNED IT!
  14. You seem to be "sure" about a lot of things. Care to explain why you are so "sure" or is it just your opinion? Have you ever talked to any of those folks you say would be "sure things"? I have...two you mention ARE doing things...amazing that someone who is so sure did not already know that. So, please, let us know how you are so "sure". Many efforts have been made over the past several years to get local businesses to "sign on" and help. Most efforts go for naught..some still today will not hang up a UNT poster even. But, if you will look...I mean, really...when is the last time you did? You should notice more and more local businesses at least displaying Mean Green stuff. I noticed several this weekend displaying spirit signs before the game. Lots of room for improvement, but improvement is being made..some just need to open their eyes, and perhaps have a bit more perspective on the up hill battle in Denton this entails. Ask anyone who spends time with local merchants asking for their support for the Mean Green! When is the last time you were involved in any of this? Just wondering as you seem so sure about so many things. Also...you do know of the watch parties for away games set up between the athletic dept. and the local Hooter's right? Sort of a partnership thing like you ask for...come on down for Mean Green food and drink specials...before and after the games...you know, that sort of thing!
  15. You know..I am beginning to think Cougar King is just one of the many personalities and pueudonames of Cerebus. Could be...
  16. Is this considered a promotional event? You know, because UNT never does any of that! Promotion per Webster's: "The act of furthering the growth or development of something".
  17. See, UNT90 knows how to be productive. No way we need anyone to hold the money in escrow. Once UNT90 got the bet whittled down to his liking there was never a doubt about his integrity based on either outcome...nor mine!
  18. Sure...I think you ought to mind your own business. You like that bet? Go make it with someone. UNT90 and I have ours, although, he does like to change the rules from time to time! Ha!
  19. OK so, Webster's defines "Promotion" as: "The act of furthering the growth or development of something". Seems about right to me. So, if that is the case...what IS North Texas doing to "promote" athletic attendance? Well, just off the top of my head, and just this year so far I can think of the following: 1) 100 Years of Football Celebration- remember...this promo started as far back as last basketball season! 2) Throw Back Uniforms and sales of same after use 3) Coordination with DISD Transportation to get buses of middle schoolers to attend 4) Coordination with Denton Transportation to offer FREE ride passes to and from the game last Saturday 5) Passing out free green UNT sung;asses at the game - remember GreenP1 was ready to run over a 12 year old to get a pair! 6) Beyond the Green TV series 7) Coach Mac Radio Show each Monday 8) Newspaper Ads announcing games and prices, etc. in local papers weekly 9) TV ads 10) 9 televised football games 11) Being Part of student orientation and getting about 4000 into Apogee with a Pep rally prior to the season (not that many years ago Athletics was not involved in student orientation AT ALL (and not so much their fault either). 12) Wheel Club 13) Restaurant partnerships 14) Twilight Tunes on the Square on the Square...always a UNT Athletics presence at each event 15) Denton Jazz Fest participation - Big Athletics presence each year...tons of interaction with UNT Staff and Denton businesses 16) Pre-Season Coaching Tour stops in multiple Cities OK, that's 16 and enough for now...am sure I have left some out, and am more than sure that some will criticize these as not "promotions", but Webster's Dictionary (and me) would disagree. They all are designed to help promote UNT Athletics and especially football at this time of year. What do you want? Bubble head doll give-a-ways? Ticket give-a-ways? Free this and free that? Folks here yell loud and long about "just win"...but then it really isn't just win, is it? Anyone have any idea what funds are spent and how much is available for "promotions"? Again...compare UNT to anyone you like...but UNT does a lot with very little when it comes to budget and staff numbers. EVERYONE, and I mean, EVERYONE is wearing multiple hats and doing multiple tasks. Heck, some...like Paul Batchelder get hooked with having to work with folks like me when it is time for the GMG.Com Flag football, basketball and now softball games. AND, believe it or not...it does take some effort and time. At a couple of other schools I am very familiar with, and which will remain nameless here, those duties would be assigned to one of the multitude (and I do mean multitude) of lower level staffers to handle...UNT does not have this luxury. Have talked with the great drex many times about this...I can not count the number of interesting and fun ideas he has related to me over the years that he wanted to try but was not able to get any traction for them for one reason or another. I can also tell you from very personal experience that, try as you may, the "fans" and alums of the Mean Green are much more talk than action when it comes to putting their time and money where their mouths are. Yes, this too is changing for the better, but so many want "something for nothing" or they want $500 in tangible hard value for their $100 effort. Oldguystudent will tell you from his accounting background that such a proposition is a losing proposition. Someone mentioned banners on street signs in Ft. Worth...BEEN THERE DONE THAT in Denton as well. If you didn't notice it means you did not drive down Carroll Blvd. in Denton...one of the main drags in town. So, are promotions perfect? Nope...not one ever is, but to say that there are no promotional efforts going on and that this person or that should be fired, is just plain IGNORANT! One can argue if the promotions are effective or the best bang for the buck or aimed at the correct audience or whatever, but one is simply not looking if they think nothing is being done from a promotional perspective. And, yes, promotional efforts cross job descriptions and departments when staffs are as small as the in number as the UNT one.
  20. Agree King...lots of excuses to be found...if one wants to find one that is....as one poster likes to say..."only at North Texas"! You think this would be a problem for OSU, OU, Texas Tech, Baylor, TCU, LSU, Alabama, Arkansas, Texas A&M, Texas, etc., etc.? These are they type of schools folks here seem to think we aspire to be...or do we just compare ourselves to them when there is something we want to reflect on UNT in a negative light? Heck I went to a game at SFA once on Halloween night and the place was rocking! Lots of kids all dressed up and lots of families...will admit that some with the younger kids left at halftime and it was a Saturday...but it was Halloween.
  21. Been a long time since "UNT and Bowl Game Projection" were all mentioned in the same breath...I LIKE!
  22. Is he a local kid?
  23. What club did you play for Matt? Did you get to play in Dallas Cup? I spent lots of years in the competitive club circles as a club president, team manager, tournament chairman, Dallas Cup volunteer, etc. in the area of Dallas and know a bunch of coaches, team admins, refs, etc. around the Classic League folks and teams. Who was your coach and what club did you play with?

    BTW...

Noted the playing...was fun to see the "local kid" get some playing time!
