New Big Tex
KRAM1 replied to NT91's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Of course...it's is different and, of course, there will be those who complain and whine that it is different. But, give everyone a few years of the new Big Tex and they will love it as much as the original. Bottom line is...old Big Tex burned, we now have a new Big Tex. New Big Tex much better than no Big Tex. Yes, great to have the big fella back. It is not the State Fair of a Texas without the big fella. Welcome back, Big Tex! -

And, I'll check back with you by then to collect the winnings on our bet. $500, right? -
There...their..what's the difference anyway, right? :-)

Thought you went to the La Tech-Army game...that thing isn't over yet is it? Is Army still winning? Who is La Tech's QB?

Seems like a personal problem. You need a speed reading class...should not take a person with normal reading skills anywhere near 30 seconds to read that post. :-) -
What's with all the inane hash tag crap? It is as bad as the terrible streak of poems we all had to endure. The cuteness and originality has long since past folks.

Indeed! How does one miss that point entirely?

UNT first day of hoops practice (video, notes, quotes)

Don't you get it with these guys....anything bad is 100% the HC's fault...anything good that happened had ZERO to do with the HC. They like their cake and they eat it do. Just stop trying to even discuss it. These folks want to bitch, whine and cry...just let 'em and ignore 'em. I think that's the tack to take. Last season is over...done...in the books...the new season is here and there appears to be reason to be excited about what has happened with the team and program overall in the off season. So, let these guys hate and enjoy their pity party together. Let's move on without them and see where the program goes. Heck, hard to believe there is anywhere to go but up! -
Yes, quite. A multi-year commitment is indeed a must. This is a much bigger project than folks believe ..as you realize, Joe. Snowy and I are trying to set up a face-to-face meet to discuss. Will keep you posted and would love to have your input. Always welcome. As to where..,anywhere is good, but in my opinion in business area such as the square provide much more usability than would neighborhoods. But, anywhere is good as long as the project is maintained...it is indeed a multi-year commitment and a much bigger one than most think. Like I said...it has been tried more than once in Denton.

Yep...it is always "they" could do this or that. That, my hard working friend, is one of the biggest challenges we have at UNT these days...too many people suggest things others should do and then just sit back and complain that nothing happens while sitting back and waiting for "they" to do it. "They" does get tired of all the talk with so little support. Takes a dedicated "they"...again, as you very well know. Like Churchill said...never have so many owed so much to so few......."they" are way too few at UNT these days. You know exactly what I mean. But, yes...pictures on the big board would be great. I am happy to work to get this contest on if anyone is willing to help. Cannot be a one person show. Could be way fun and could be an annual event if folks like it and participate....just a thought.

God God...now UNT90 is whining about Big Tex...is there no end to his angst? Come on, Man...you have to like something...anything...just say something positive about something once in awhile so we will all recognize the UNT90 we have come to know and appreciate. Please...pretty please! You do know I am just pulling your chain, right? One of my teams lost today (OSU) and I need some grins from somewhere.

How about a best tailgate contest? Awards for: Biggest Best Food Best Drink Most Spirited Best Decorations

No...no...no...no cheap plastic flags. For it to work and look good it needs to be full size quality flags on metal poles. Of course it could be funded by donations..."support a flag" for $X..... Could cover cost of one flag and pole....not very expensive, and could really help the project. It isn't this sort of thing that has doomed this project in the past...it has been the willingness of businesses to participate, the City and it's regulations and challenges, and finding folks willing to put them up and take them down appropriately on scheduled days and for special events....like basketball tournament times, conference championships held at UNT ( ex. Tennis), etc. No problem or challenge too big to overcome, but if you think this is easy and can be accomplished quickly you have another though coming. It can happen, but you need a very dedicated and willing group...very dedicated and willing and willing to stay such for an extended period of time...like multiple years. Been there...can do, but have had no luck in prior attempts. However, it has been several years since the last attempt, and things do seem to be changing in a positive manner. GREAT IDEA. Needs dedicated leadership.

Not sure that is true, Deep. Word is that all the staffers are scrambling to find coverage. The Senator and Congressmen failed to include their staff in the exclusion I believe and this is causing more than a little angst within the DC folks. Pretty comical. This includes some pretty elite DC staffers. Word is that some are more than a little teed off...and, many work for the White House and the Dems who voted for the bill. DC and politics do naked such strange bedfellows. Would love to have been a fly on the wall when these guys explained to their staffs that they left them hanging out to dry while taking care of themselves! Would gave been classic!

Don't get too excited too early, but hope UTSA pounds the snot out of the Houston kitty kats.

Well, OSU just got beat by WVA after going into the game as a 19 point favorite. I have never ever seen so many dropped ballas as the OSU receivers dropped today! Walsh was not on top of his game at all, and ZoSU had no...no...running game, but still should have won...and would have if their receivers could have caught a ball or two. Amazing display of terrible hands today by the Cowboy receivers. Can't have a loss if you are a Big XII team and have national aspirations. This one drops OSU down a good bit in the polls. No way this OSU team wins the Big XII unless it's receivers learn how to catch...or ember how. They have not had this problem in earlier games. Ouch!

Delay does not mean cancelled, right? Hopefully, will kick-off a tad later.

Snowy, this has been proposed and tried time and time again with little/no support from the local business community...especially around the square. It is a GREAT IDEA and would do much to liven up the game day atmosphere in Denton. But, from experience, it takes lots and lots of time and effort to get going and to keep it going. The Rotary a Club does this in my neighborhood as well with American flags on all national holidays. Always amazes me how many people do not participate. It is not the cost as it is very reasonable. Just lack of interest on the part of some residents it seems. Such was the case with the business folks on the square...not to mention how often the flags are stolen...yes, stolen. It seems it work work best if a service organization such as the Lions, Kiwanis, Rotary, etc. were to take this on as some sort of fundraiser. Or, a dedicated campus group such as the Talons or Student Aluni Association. Coordination would need to take place with the City of Denton and perhaps the downtown business association! then one would need to get the businesses on board ( nay have better luck than in the past as things seem to be changing for the better), then purchase the flags and poles and decide how to mount them for each game. After gat it is just deciding how often to get the up and how long they stay up before and after each game, and then how do the flags get up and down and where to store them between games. If you want to PM me and give me some contact info I can get with you and discuss what I know about this sort of project. It is a great one and a great atmosphere helper...just way more work than some think. Can be done, but it would be horrible to get started and then drop it due to lack of volunteer interest which gas been a problem in the past. If it is started, it MUST be kept going with new businesses being added as some close, etc., etc. PM me with contact info and we can chat more. Love this idea and would love to see it come to pass!

UNT Says Beer Sales at Football Games Are Ongoing Discussion
KRAM1 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Christopher, I think that situation is now getting worked out. Delayed the decision earlier, but I think that issue has been resolved and now it is just a "decision" process involving if, when, where and how. Hopefully, those decisions will be made sooner than later and we will have beer sales at Apogee by next season. Pretty late to try to get it all done for this year, but stranger things have happened, right?- 17 replies

Great prediction...they are up by 20. MUTS got nothing!

Yes, I think this is entirely possible.

Oh, so now it wasn't the head coach's fault? Man, I just can't keep up with all the various characters you want to blame these days. Come on, man, pick a line and stay with it. Pretty soon you will be down to the trainers. You think the only evaluation area for an AD is the men's BB HC hire? Let's see, of the main three, two seem to be on the right track to building winning programs. The third is only in his second year...yes, after a pretty ugly first year for a variety of reasons. Then add the CUSA move, baseball being added, etc. etc. you seem to think the job is a "one trick pony" evaluation process. Some need to tell the BOR and the University Prez and the University Chancellor to re-write the evaluation form for AD's. Only needs to have one criteria...just ask. UNT90. Easy job!

Well, for one reason, we don't know as yet what the team attitude and individual attitudes will be. Do not believe anyone knows how that will go as yet. Why assume the worst? That, to me is part of the joy surrounding college sports. Every year is a new year. Last year is over. Why dwell on the past? Anyone ever been successful in changing the past? Seems to me it is better to learn from mistakes and move on. We have yet to see if our coaches or players learned anything from last season. But, I am willing to give them the opportunity to show me that they did. Like some of said...lots of new players. And, to think some are already saying they won't support them based on what happened with a team last season that they were not even a part of creating. Interesting way to show support in my opinion, but perhaps it us just a natter of how one approaches challenges. Attitude and perspective say so much about how a person approaches challenges.

Who is ignoring anything? I think most of us have acknowledged that last season was a disaster. Don't think it is possible to ignore LAST season...but the operative words here are "last season". Dwelling on the past really does ZERO good. The past is the past. Time to move on. If you guys want to focus on the past and something that no one can change, well good for you. Live out the past and wallow in the frustration of last year. So far, how is that working out? Sean...not so much talking about you, just all the folks who say they will not come until this or that happens, who was at fault, yadda, yadda, yadda! Really helping, right? The folks who are ignoring anything seem to be those cutting off their own noses to spite their faces with their attitudes toward this new season. But, just a matter of perspective I guess.
