Pretty strong statement from McCarney on attendance
KRAM1 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Hmmmmm...NO...where did you get that bad information??? Buy in to the Club level is way way below $6000 depending upon where you decide you would like your seat location. Something in the $1800 per seat range as I recall. And, now I understand...you don't drink! Might want to cosider having a cold one once in awhile, might make you a bit more mellow! YOu know, maybe not throwing out those..."kill you and death wish things" due to posting on a message board...just sayin.... -

No, I'll just let you add your usual nothing to the discussion. But, you do try sooooooo hard. Came out into the light again did you? -

Perhaps a bit of patience is in order here, Grasshopper. Let's get by the MUTS game and family weekend events and then start the promos for the game on the 31st. Lots of time, Grasshopper. -

So, thanks, Harry, for getting the actual flyer up? Now, I ask. Who among you can read this and think anything but positive about this BASKETBALL centered FREE event? As the immortal philosopher Charlie Brown has said......"Good grief"! Heck...this might be fun for adult fans as well. Maybe I can borrow a neighbor kid and go! -

Wow...just saw the actual flyer...how anyone could confuse this with the football game events is beyond me. Just asked Harry to post the flyer here on GMG.com. This involves campus student organizations and is centered squarely around basketball! Seriously, it seems some folks are just trying overly hard to find something to complain about...two events for kids on two consecutive days...not bad! Talks about meeting Scrappy and having fun with the Mean Green players....autographs, watch practice, trick or treat, etc., etc. man, folks should be happy about this...I just don't get the point of trying to turn something obviously good into something bad. Again..,thanks to Coach Benford and Coach Peterson for stepping up to help...might even work to sell a few season tickets or generate interest in the season. Gee, go figure. I think they might call this a promo for the BB season for the local crowd and the younger set, but hey, perspective, that's all. -

Not when you have a bit of the details and background on the whole thing. -

Seriously, Mike. Nice of you to take this approach without the details, but am sure Emmitt appreciates your assistance. Cops got to stand together, right? Now, you might want to read the full explanation I just posted after making a phone call. If only the original poster had taken the time to find out what was behind all this BEFORE playing the "got ya" game. Could have been very helpful in clearing up the mystery, but..... -

Well, I called...got the scoop. Here's the deal. This is a Campus-wide event...it has been hosted at the Student Union for some time, but the Student Union is closed. It was going to be cancelled due to the Union's closing. When Coach Benford and Coach Peterson heard that, they volunteered the use of the Super Pit and that the Athletic Department should sponsor the event. The department agreed and thus the Oct. 30th date. It is a campus-wide event...more folks than just the Jr. Mean Green Club got the notice. There WILL be athletic dept. Sponsored events for kids the night of Oct. 31st for the game. Something about using the north end zone area or something like that...don't have those details as I was too interested in clearing up the misconception here that the AD MUST have screwed up. So, call it what you want, but seems to me the AD stepped up after learning that a campus wide event that has taken place inferior years was to be cancelled. Nice of Coach Benford and Coach Peterson to lead the charge...one or both could probably use the Super Pit for practice that day. Stand by for info on the kid-friendly events taking place in relation to the game on the 31st.....now, about that GMG.com sponsored tailgate trick or treat thing. Amazing what a difference in perspective it becomes when one gets a few of the details sometimes. Cute, huh? -

Yep! Bring on the beer sales at Apogee! But, it sure has not done anything to fill up the Club Section 100%. If it were all about beer sales there would be standing room only in the Club area. There is not...not yet at least. So...come on folks...get on the same wave length here and get beer sales at Apogee approved ASAP. Unfortunately, I doubt that it significantly improves attendance. There is always another reason/excuse to be had, but it will sure please those who do attend and perhaps bring a few more from time to time. All good in my book....Cheers! -

Yes...I will make a call...got to see what the deal is...can anyone post the actual Jr Mean Green Club note here...all of it? Surely there are some details. So, let's see the full message. I admit...this one has me shaking my head, but I would like to see the full message before I make a call or two just for my own education...no, I will not be telling them what "they" should do, nor will I be questioning the wisdom of same...just taking for clarification. Very puzzled...indeed! -

Cute...what's cute? All I was mentioning was that it might be good to check...you went off on the blame game without checking...assumed someone screwed up on the message....all I was suggesting was that someone check. And, I read your post completely and missed absolutely ZERO of its meaning...glad you like the reading comprehension stuff, but try to find your own gig...that one is mine. You are creative enough, you can do it. Now, we can all now really go off because what the heck is up with an Oct. 30th event? Who the heck is going to be there handing out treats and tricks... Oh, sorry, the "everything is screwed up" game is more your job, Emmitt, so carry on...you are much better at it than me, and I have no skin in this game...no kiddos left at home. I doubt that even I could find the answer for you this time. Did you bother to ask if there would also be tailgate trick or treat on the 31st sponsored by the department? If not, got to do it on our own! Must have trick or treat tailgate. Don't get the 30th thing...must find out. At least you called to verify...which would have been helpful before your first post. Thanks for making the call...this thread can now get ugly for all those who love to second guess....me, I might second guess this one as well...just sayin..... -

I believe Mac said "we need you help" in building something at Apogee as well. Mac was not blaming anyone, Mac was asking for your help. He knows the folks listening to that show and attending in person are the ones who, for the most part, do show up win, lose or draw. He was pleading for help from those fans...and others. It is a big part of a program's job to sell tickets and fill the stadium. If a HC does that in every venue by asking for folks to come and letting it be know that he wants help, OK by me. I honed in on the "I need your help part". Perhaps he is as frustrated with a certain element of our fan base as several others of us are, maybe he has a point. -
Hey, thanks, Cooley. Just could not figure out how a guy "too frail" for CUSA and UNT could end up in the Big XII playing those teams. I had never thought of a kid as being "over-signed" as coaches have only so many schollys...why waste them? But, given that so many transfer, you have a great point. Like I said, I don't follow this recruiting stuff much at all. My only interest in them is when and if they play for UNT. And, you are right, UNT doesn't need a high flying dunk artist. UNT needs basketball players with both an offensive and defensive game and a "want to" "can do" attitude. If there are such to be had...both O and D that is...HA! Thanks, appreciate the info...between you and NT03 I get all the great stuff on recruiting without having to do the work. You two are great when it comes to this stuff, and I appreciate you guys.

But, of course, Mitzi...a simple call. Great seeing you guys last night and getting to see and hear Mason on the radio show. Really happy Mason is a member of the great Mean Green nation....well, same for you guys. Hope the drive back to Sulphur Springs was without issue. Hope to see you Saturday..and Go Mean Green! -

Probably the best example of a difference in perspective possible. Had I received the note my first thought would not have been "who screwed up", but that I had better call someone so the parents and kids will have it right as to date and to let folks know that a typo was made on the notice. THEN I would have posted the error and correction on GMG.com for folks with a note about the typo. But, some seem to be so busy playing the blame game that it is more important to post a "got ya" instead of focusing on fixing it so the families will make sure to plan accordingly. Then, it became super fun because it became a double "got ya" as one was able to get in a cute little ditty about the AD...a backhanded slap at a second person. Probably the best example I have seen here lately representing two different perspectives about most everything. I've been blamed for a lot of things in my professional and volunteer careers. Know what...the blame game never fixes anything, never improves anything and usually reflects more on the person doing the blaming than the folks being blamed. That "throw the first stone" thing often comes to mind. -

Might want to give credit to the guy who actually made that final part of your paraphrased statement...in all fairness and all. Then everyone who did not hear the show will be able to pick up on your sarcasm. -

Thus a good idea to call...maybe a note can be sent with a correction...lots of time for that. -
Nope. You know there us a question session called "Facebook With Poppy". You can send in questions for Mac. A question such as you mention might be a good one.....go for it!

Did anyone think to call and confirm the date before posting? Me, got no kids at home any longer, so not really worried about trick or treat, but seems a quick phone call would confirm the date. Certainly hope this is a misprint. Who the heck would be there to hand out candy on the 30th anyway? -
Ha! Well, I didn't want people to get the wrong idea after spending time in New Orleans!

Serious? The offense put enough points on the board to win without the gaff by special teams. How is the special teams' gaff on DT? Not wanting to argue, just wondering why folks want to put this loss on his shoulders? They seem to look right past the 10 point swing due to that one BIG gaff.
