I am also a realistic person and know that talk is cheap. Ever seen the Mean Green Club names in the football program and matched them up with some of the biggest talkers? Interesting project. Try it sometime. Like has been said...talk is cheap. It's not being negative, just reality within the so-called Mean Green fan base. More of a "what's in it for me" situation for many and less of a "pay it forward" mindset. Just is. One can negative this post all they want, but facts are facts. Work with me on some of my volunteer projects and you will see exactly what I am talking about. Ask someone you know who is an alum as often as I do to join the Alumni Association and/or the Mean Green Club and see what I mean. Fact...many posters here are members of neither. But, we all support the players, right? While that's the reality, it does not keep me (and a bunch of other volunteer type folks) from trying and asking. I could write a book...title..."The Excuses I have Heard", but for every ten "no's" along with the patented excuse...and that's what it is a pure and simple excuse...the one "yes and thanks for reminding me" makes it all worthwhile. Folks here seem to think that the opinions expressed on the board are shared by the vast majority of UNT alums. Silly and so far from reality. "We" are the hard core fan base who tend to live and breathe UNT and UNT Athletics and, in reality, we are in the minority. That's why some here have such delusional views of the BOR, RV, Coach this or that, etc., etc. Happens at many other schools too within the "hard core". Army, you guys get it. I understand your position on our head BB coach, but even so, more often than not, I see you and Mrs. Army and the kids in your seats cheering the players on. You guys show up for the GMG.com games and donate. And, there are several others doing the same thing. We just need more folks who "get it" a tad more and who realize that it is not all about "what's in it for me". Especially if we support the players so much in spite of everything, right?

Funny thread. Posting trash about a guy who shows up at games and donates to the university. Seems to me that he would be in the minority of local alums...attending games and donating money and all that.

Funny..there are not near 300 GMG.com posters who donate $500 to the Mean Green Club much less $1000.00. Lots of big talk here, but that's usually what it is...all talk. Let's see the 300 who will put up $1000 each. My guess is you couldn't get 300 posters to give you $50, but you will have a bunch of talkers pony up with big promises. Acta non Verba!

Mr Kehune did not become the successful attorney/businessman he has by being stupid. The comments about his relationship with Coach Benford on here are comical at best. I doubt those posting about it have any first hand knowledge or have ever even met or talked to the man more than in passing. Just guessing, of course. There is the chance that those doing the talking are close personal friends with Mr Kehune and know exactly what they are talking about. What are the odds?

The number was ten...plain and simple...you said we would not win 10.... No craw fishing now that that big win over UCA was sealed! I feel two in a row coming with Wayland up next.....but...NO WAY ANY win...any...is assured this year! Remember...I just watched, in person, the SFA and UCA games....with this team ZERO is guaranteed. Don't write that check just yet...conference is coming. I recall you saying that UNT better have the 10 before conference starts or it might not happen. Don't have 10 yet...conference is coming.

Four wins away Baby!! Wayland up next...make it three wins away as that one is in the bag...OK, maybe not as I just finished watching in person this tean get destroyed ... With a capital D ... By SFA, and struggle mightily with UCA. Nothing seems in the bag with this team. But 7 wins before conference gives me hope that that 10 win mark can indeed be hit! But, right now I am super glad you did not take me up on the $5000. :-)

Everyone who says they support the players, and are local enough to do so, should be showing up for the games. Posting on a message board will not get it done. If the players deserve better that includes fans who actually show up if they actually support the players so much. I realize the Tuesday game will be tough for a lot of folks to make, understandable, but no excuses for folks who support the players for not showing up for evening and weekend games. Hope to all the supporters at a few games this season...to support the players and all..... Edit: I see this post hit a tad too close to home for some folks. Funny.

Bump...so, after an initial burst of sign-ups we have zero lately? Come on folks....

If Gene signs up to play...that's a deal. You can name him your ass't coach if you want to coach. Or, just have him make at least a $25 donation (for his shirt and a bit of a donation to the cause) and he can coach without playing. So, get the guy to participate....no problem. We can make this happen.

Unless the thinking has recently changed, there will be beer sales on the student side FOR the visiting fans area. At least that is what I was told when this topic was discussed with the folks working through the whole process. But, things may have changed as that discussion was now months ago.

Bump....not too early to sign up to play...or to help in another way....a donation from you or your company of an auction item, a cash donation, a sponsorship....folks, lots of wYs to help this great cause...hope to see many of those who support UNT and UNT Athletics step up in any way they would like or are able to support our great UNT Cheer Squad. All proceeds go directly and 100% to the scholarship fund for the UNT Cheer Squad! Think it over....thanks.

As always, there will be a cheer clinic prior to the game, and the clinic participants will join us for the game and cheer us on...we'll definitely need that help. More info to follow regarding the clinic...but here is a Save the Date a Flyer as a reminder. Info to follow....

Got you down Andrew...thanks. And, anytime you want to take this over and turn it into a tournament event...be my guest. I have done that thing before managing a 300 team 4-day soccer tournament for multiple years. Swore I would never do that again...and I am sticking to it. Be my guest...happy to help, but no way I am going to be "he who will be blamed" for that sort of event EVER again. Glad to have you in this year!
